Well we got the result we needed and no replay. Thought there were a few decent performances despite the many changes in the team.

Most notable negative is Jones' injury, hope its more of a strain than anything worse.

Nani was the most obvious positive, unplayable at times when he came on. Shame it seems it may be too little to late for him at United but hopefully he can put a few more of them performances in before the summer.

Thought Cleverly was good - hard working and plenty of forward thinking balls. He and Ando looked positive at times. If Jones is out for the Real game I'd play them both with Carrick sitting.

Vidic was a beast, apart from getting pulled out of position for their goal. He got his head on so many crosses/long balls.

DDG pulled off a couple good saves and looked relatively solid, more of that please David!

Overall - happy with the result and lots of players getting valuable playing time. Onwards and upwards!

is Nani our best winger right now?
maybe behind Giggs, but way ahead of Valencia unfortunately.
Give him a new contract and watch him explode.
even his decision making was top notch today.

great performance, for most part of the game.
need to put those chances away though, could be costly in other fixtures!

Believable19 Unbelievable14

1 good game in a season so far. that's not worthy of a new contract.

Red Joe

Agree1 Disagree1

You are kidding about offering a new contract right? One game warrents a new contract, please don't ever take up any coaching or football manager positions.

melwing28

Agree2 Disagree1

'Give him a new contract and watch him explode'

Give him a new contract and watch him do nothing, more like.

Is it just me, or does Nani generally play well when Rooney is not on the field? You could flip my question, and say: When Rooney doesn't play, they don't play against a good oposition (when he is not injured). Just a thought. Cause everytime they play together, Rooney is always showing his frustration over Nani.

Agree2 Disagree0

Perhaps a 1 year extension (same pay), then look to unload him in next winters transfer window? If Nani balks let him walk

Agree0 Disagree0

I would definately give him a new contract he is an outlet he can make something out of nothing we have nobody else like him yeah he can be terrible at times but on his day he is our best player by far and having him in our team on the wing especially against the big teams barca, real etc means we are saying to them make a decision double up on him and give van persie and rooney room or risk leaving him one on one that is the sort of question we should be asking every team I would put nani as our 3rd best player (when he has a bit of form) and not signing him up would be ludicrus although like above due to the amount of appearences he has made this season despite injury I believe his time is up : (
Danny

Agree1 Disagree0

Danny is right to an extent. As soon as Nani came on against Reading I knew that after the break they'd get two men marking him at times because he can be a real individual danger. He hasn't hit any sort of form for the last season and a half, probably down to uncertainty over his future. But I remember 2010/11 season he was voted United player of the year so it's not like his legs have become old and withered since then.

I think we should start playing him over Toni, maybe it'll revive Valencia's form if he has to fight to get his place back because he just hasn't contributed this season at all.

Ozwald

Agree1 Disagree0

I think Zaha will be the answer to the Nani saga he has the potential to be a top top player and I think we will see Nani leave for around 15m or part of a transfer for someone big ie a Bale or a Wilshere this is doubtfull but we can expect one thing is he is probably going to leave and Zaha and others will come in expect our biggest ever transfer swoop. Katef

Agree0 Disagree0

It's obvious that Nani should get a new contract. Tony these days is just not up to it, he is having a very poor season. As for Young? I never wanted him at United and his lack of good performancies just proves my point. We have Zaha coming, but he is better on the left and may well take a season or two to bed in, if he in fact does make the grade. Nani may be inconsistant, but I'd take that over the consistantly poor form of Valencia and the generally much lower quality od Young. I think the one thing that stood out last night with Nani, was the advantage of having players that are two footed. I thought Amderson and Cleverley looked light weight and we always look far better with Carrick and Cleverly, or Carrick and Anderson. God I hope we buy a midfielder or two this summer/
Mik

Agree0 Disagree0

Bebe is the future on the right along with Zaha. I'm not actually joking, he has been sensational in Portugal this season on loan. There is an ability there which is starting to show.

Dan

Agree0 Disagree0

Dan have to say its a little early for april fools if Bebe is the next right winger for us we are in trouble he is big and fast but a touch like a donkey we would be better off blooding some of the under 18s and I ain't joking. Katef

If Bayern sign Ozil, and loads more of the 'available' €200mil odd. Where would this leave the likes of Ribery or Robben?.
I'd love Ozil @ united. Or Di Maria. {Ed002's Note - It is nothing to do with Manchester United what happens with Oezil of course, but teams move on and players are simply transients that move on.}

Believable5 Unbelievable7

I'd suggest that at least one of them would leave, Ribery has already lost his place in many games apparently.

Which tv station airs the game live?
Thx {Ed007's Note - ESPN.}

Anyone know where I can watch it online? Only my Mrs got pissed with kids watching cartoons and cancelled our cable package!

Eds, Is there still a possibility that Nani will sign a new deal?

Ozzy {Ed007's Note - I can't see it and I think he will finally leave in the summer.}

Its a shame after the game he just had

On the past few days, a lot of names have been mentioned on the site. Mainly who we think are potential signings. However I think the ed's have dispelled a lot of them, so I'm just wondering who is likely out of who is left.

We've had:

Sanchez - to Italy?
Bale - Bayern/Madrid
Rodriguez - Bayern
Ozil - to Germany?
Di Maria - no interest
Ronaldo - unlikely
Gotze - very unlikely
Son Heung Min - Plausible?

Thoughts guys?

Believable4 Unbelievable8

Apparently, Downing's going to be available. :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Bale wouldn't go Bayern, although I think he would be a perfect fit for their team.

Agree0 Disagree0

Erik Lamela. Even though he plays on the right, but this boy is class.

Agree0 Disagree0

With Hamsik robbed at gun point again rumours have surfaced that he could be unsettled. Any chance of making a move for him?

Anderson seems to have been quite talkative these past few weeks. Now, there is of course that the press have twisted his words, but he does seem to be haggling for a route out of the club. Maybe there is a good opportunity to give him back to Porto as part of a deal for Rodriguez?

This also means though that we may need an extra midfielder after all given that centrally we are likely to be without Fletcher, Scholes & potentially Anderson (& maybe Giggs). Also Powell isn't fully there yet, nor is Tunnicliffe or Petrucci. That means that we only have Carrick, Cleverly & Jones for the CM spot - no where near enough.

This summer could be one of the biggest in our history with the most expenditure from us EVER.

Fresh!

Believable9 Unbelievable7

I really am hoping for a top/wold class CM to partner Carrick. One of Modric, Verrati, Wilshere, Alonso, Gundogan would really complete our team.

Dan

Agree0 Disagree0

Wilshere and Strootman would be perfect, but Modric and Strootman I think are actually quite likely.

Fresh!

Agree0 Disagree0

Next summer's net expenditure will not beat this year's net spend mate. With Anderson, Nani, Lindegaard/DDG probably leaving we would need to spend £90m-£100m to beat this year's spend. I think that's highly unlikely.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

I think this summer will see us invest in top end of the market players this will be the season before the season before financial fair play and no one is going to leave the big buys till the season before so we should see a lot of big transfers the so called experts are pridicting the biggest summer spend ever and I think we will be right up there maybe 150m kitty with sales of flops and fringe players with this in mind I hope for Bale, Wilshere, Baines, Fellaini don't think we can prize Wilshere this summer but a would love to see Jack here it could happen if Arsenal don't get top four and the other three are going to move so let's hope its here. Katef

Agree0 Disagree0

The thing is we wouldn't want to buy an older midfielder who can already do a job for us straight from the word go. At the same time if we brought in a young prospect who could still start for us, what would that say to players such as Powell, Petrucci? Other big teams still feed in 18-19 year olds into their team successfully so if we don't do the same, or at least show we'll try then they may start to look elsewhere just like Mr. Pogba did. Some how I really don't think we'll be spending much this summer.

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

If Modric is available this summer I think PSG will show a strong interest as they were ahead of us in the queue when he left Tottenham.

Supasub

Agree0 Disagree0

Kate, the financial fair play regs will not effect us. We could spend £100m every summer for the next five years and still break even with ease.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

I know Sydney it is grea for us lol, but it will affect everybody else and then us because that will make us have to pay over the odds to sign the best around or miss out like we have before ie Hazard, Lucas , I am shore this summer we will get our main targets who ever they are and it will be a very busy and costly summer I think we will replace Giggs and scholes with players as good or near on as them in there pomp and this is going to cost a lot. ps if you look at who will probably get sold this summer then I think at least six players will break the 40m mark and if Ronnie moves the world transfer record will get broke again. Katef

Agree0 Disagree0

Kate, transfer fees should begin to fall in time and with us being able to pay bigger salaries and fees (in theory) and others having to be extra careful, we would be the one's not missing out on the likes of Hazard & Moura, but being in the best position to sign them. It doesn't mean the Chelsea's and City's cannot go for the big players, it just means they will have to be more careful when doing so.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes agreed Sydney! but I think the short term ie next two summer transfer windows it will affect us. I assume lots of top teams will be looking to stock up on top players I know they can't buy everbody but if city sign say Cavani Hummels Bale Isco Coentrao and chelsea were to sign Falcao Danny Alves Fellani Modric Chiellini then we would have to buy some big players and we will need to regardless of who anyone else buys this will be a big summer for us I guarantee it I think we will have 150m this summer and far less the next, replacing Giggs and Scholes with like for like in there pomp prob 60m just for two players say we signed Modric and Isco 60 to 80m gone unless we find cheap gems like Ronnie and Vidic it will be expensive but we are talking about Manchester united and it is about time we showed these sugar daddy owned clubs who really rules the roost. Ed are we still interested in James Rodriguez and could you see a move taking place in the summer cheers.

Caoln. {Ed007's Note - Utd are still interested but I think he will go elsewhere, possibly Bayern. The fee is 45 million Euros, I don't see Utd paying that sort of money.}

Believable3 Unbelievable4

18 Feb 2013 15:05:31
Bond I have to agree, I don't think we'll go for him its too much to pay and I think there's a reluctance to pay too much on individual players unless their either prem proven or genuine world class. I think having had fingers burnt on berbatov, nani and anderson its making people think twice.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed007, if you think he's likely to make a move to Bayern what are your thoughts about Pep supposedly wanting Bale in the summer?

Ozwald {Ed007's Note - I don't see Bale moving to Germany.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Me too, but then again I don't see him moving to spain either. I think he relishes being the main danger man in a team. I'm told he's very close to his family and visits them often? Wonder what effect that'll have on any potential transfer.

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed, could you advise on who do you think we could possibly sign then? I thought that Rodriguez was odds on, but this has cast doubt on that now. We will be in for a forward, but who?

Fresh! {Ed002's Note - The summer is a long way off and certainly the club will be looking to players in a number of positions including GK, CB, MF and, a foward or or other wide player. Don't forget a commitment to Zaha is already there. Lewandowski remains, as previously explained, a viable option.}

Couple of story's circulating this weekend that we are still interested in rodriguez with the possibility of Nani (and some money I presume going the other way. Or could even be Anderson going the other way?
Also a few media outlet's saying we are interested in Veratti of PSG who I presume hasn't settled in well.

Supasub

Believable3 Unbelievable2

Verratti is a starter at PSG now, has 25 apps so far this season.

Quick question ed. If gareth bale decides to quit spurs will he prefer a move within the premier league or overseas like Germany or Spain as he has been linked recently? {Ed002's Note - I have no idea what he himself would prefer.}

Believable3 Unbelievable3

I think he would prefer a move to Spain, he came into the prem, conquered the last 2 seasons, and maybe now he thinks he has done everything he can with Spurs, he might want to be crowned a Premier League Champion, but I think he would prefer to play in the same team as Modric and be Ronaldo's under study for a year until Ronnie comes home;)
Tommy.

Agree0 Disagree0

Highly doubt that he actually wants to go to spain over england, modric has failed over there and will tell him not too. it depends more on what genuine offers are on the table and that seems to be only real madrid ready to cough up 50 million

Agree0 Disagree0

Hasn't he already said that he'd like to play abroad?
Probably ruling out Italy, I'd say one of Real Madrid, Barca, Bayern Munich or PSG in that order of probability for his next move.

Supasub

Agree0 Disagree0

RM will not pay £50m for Bale.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

How can someone conquer england without winning a trophy?

ms85

Agree0 Disagree0

I didn't say he conquered England, I said he has conquered the last 2 seasons, which I meant he has been one of the best, I then went on to say maybe he thinks he has done everything he can with Spurs, but might want to be crowned a Premier League Champion and move to us?
Tommy.

Agree0 Disagree0

I work for a bookie who is a BIG united fan. One of the Done brother, Bet Fred. He thinks United will bid for Bale at the end of the season. Hope if we do Bale see the light and joins us.
