One of the lads that work in the studio with me is Dutch and supports Feyenoord so I decided to text him and ask him about this Buttner lad.

Now, he knows very little about him seeing as he finds it hard to see Feyenoord games letalone most
Eredivisie games.

Anyway, all he did say is that from what he's seen and heard about him he plays very much like a young clichy...Take that as you will but to me that means pace, very little discipline but huge potential to be very good.

Just thought I'd share that all with you.

The Moon.

I think there is still a few to be offloaded from our squad.

I do think there is a chance Nani & Anderson will leave. Bebe & Kiko will be sold if we can get a buyer, it will be tough getting interest mind. Berbatov will leave by September. I would say King could be surplus to requirements if we wasn't so low on strikers at U21 level. Perhaps his United future hinges on whether Henriquez gets a work permit.

I think there is a very good chance of a midfielder coming in and Anderson leaving, but the question is if Nani goes will we be signing a replacement for him? Or does the manager think we have enough options in attack now? We did want Hazard and we did want Moura so I guess this is a worthy discussion. Would love to hear some opinions.

Sydney!

Believable11 Unbelievable21

I think we've decided to keep Nani and go for Witsel.

G.A.G.U.S

Agree0 Disagree1

Saf likes anderson and can't see that happening. I would venture that he might sell nani if a high bid comes in and he is after another mega signing.

Agree0 Disagree1

I agree, Saf did seem adamant on signing a modern attacking wide man like Hazard and Moura etc.

I think he will keep Nani now RVP has arrived so thats that.

I agree with you about Kiko Berba Bebe and King. I am very excited about henriquez.

I PUT my house on Anderson staying. I think Saf rates him highly and likes his character (seems very popular in the squad)

I really would like a senior midfielder come into the squad so that Giggs doesnt get played in CM this season.

Fellaini is my preference, perfect match.

Whose would yours be Syd?

Cban

Agree0 Disagree1

I still don't know why most people think we will sell Nani. Granted his performances at times have been questionable, I believe he is one of the few players on the team that can change a game or add that bit of flair. Young is not a viable option on the left wing and I don't know why he was bought, far too predictable.

Another point against selling Nani, is that there isn't much better out there on the left, bar James Rodriguez, young and with plenty of potential or Moura who we missed out on.

On an additional note, I think Cicharito will suffer the most with the purchase of Van Persie, Welbeck is a much better all round player and looks to have much more potential.

Barca Devil

Agree1 Disagree1

I hope we don't get rid of Nani.

We need a left back (hopefully sorted) wondering how we would give any game time to a centre mid without getting rid of someone...

DodgyBanter

Agree0 Disagree1

If we didn't need a winger before and were after 2 like you said then surely we are still looking especially if Nani is sold , earlier there was speculation re James Rodriquez i wouldn't mind him coming in if the price is right and also Munian could be a good bet, but Bebe might end up staying and playing out wide if we don't manage to recruit any one and Nani goes.

Winston

Agree0 Disagree2

Hmmm, not sure about either of those two leaving. I think it would take an offer of unlikely proportions for either of them to leave, although if we did get such an offer, I doubt SAF would fight to keep them.

I reckon 15-20m for Ando and 20+for Nani would do it. Or central midfield is still a bit light, and Ando is the closest we have to a proper box-to-box midfielder. I know how inconsistent he can be and how mch time he's spent out injured, but he can be amazing at times. I rewatched the first ten minutes r so (before Eto scored) of the Barca final a few years ago a few days ago to support an argument with a colleague about Ando, and he was superb, every time he got the ball, Barca were falling over themselves. Yes, I know how the rest of the game went, but even then I thought he was one of our best players. That ten minues is a perfect example of what he can do. He passes well, is decent getting back and winning the ball, and he makes fantastic driving runs forward.

I know we've been saying this every year, but if he can stay fit and get a run, he could start living up to the promise, and become one of the best around. If he doesn't do it this year he never will, and I have no doubt this is his last chance season. However, I think SAF will give him the chance unless he gets a really good offer.

Nani has also failed to live up to the potential on a consistent basis, but he can still be one of the best on a good day. Unless we're offered enough to go a long way towards a better replacement (at least 20m I reckon) I expect him to stay. If he does go, I would expect him to be replaced.

However, with RVP and Rooney both able to play deeper and wide if neccesary, we could see a fluid line up with one of them up font and the other with Kagawa and Young/Valencia (maybe even Cleverly?) lined up behind, all four switching backwards and forwards, with Roo or RVP up front at all times. Of course this could happen if Nani stays too.

Thorne

Agree2 Disagree1

Cban, I think Fellaini is very ordinary as a DM. He was good against us when he played just behind the striker, but in central midfield he is a little slow for my liking.

Personally I would have gone for one of Martinez, Witsel or Khedira.

Sydney!

Agree1 Disagree0

There are now no real viable options out there that could replace Nani so he is safe for the time being. Anderson won't go either, this is a huge season for him and SAF wants to see him prove himself because he does like the guy. I think he could excel alongside a player like Witsel...just look how well he did alongside Hargreaves.

I do think that there will be one more deal. We'll go out and get Witsel. That'll be us closed for business. I don't think we'll get Witsel until we have off loaded a couple, just to ease the wage bill. Berbatov will be gone, King may stay like you say - but he's not going to make it and neither is the forever dissapointing Macheda.

I'd say we'll end up with these deals:

Incoming will be Kagawa, Powell, RVP, Henriquez, Witsel and Buttnerl. With Berbatov, Park, James, De Laet, Norwood, Bebe (loan), Macheda and other loanees out. We'll keep Wooton until other defenders are fit.

RedDevil19

Agree0 Disagree0

IMO Anderson will come good one day are another, still young boy. I will be mad if we sold him and he become hit at Real or one of the Milan.

Arsenal produce talent and sold them when they become great...Thanks God We Are Not --» Arsenal FC

JLBER84

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldn't mind if both Nani and Anderson stayed and we still brought in Witsel, but I cannot see it personally. We would need to give Nani a new deal and I do not think the manager sees him in his future plans, but if there isn't anyone better then could he stay? We will see I guess.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Thats the worse estimaye for trabsfer prices ever!! Anderson is in the 8-10m range and Nani is 30m+. Anderson, when not injured is average and has only 3 or 4 games per season where he looks above average. ani is inconsistant, as most flair players are, but he's a match winner. Look at his stats, good for 10 goals and 10 assists per year.
Mik

Agree1 Disagree0

I actually like Anderson he can be so hard to knock off the ball the drawback is he's never been able to get a run of games, last year with Clevs he looked good then it all went tits up

Nani *sigh* so frustrating like Berba, on his day brilliant, 20m or up would see him leave I'me sure of that.

I still can't see why we wanted Moura and Hazard (Less so) if SAF thought Nani would be staying

Pardoe

Agree0 Disagree0

We have bought 2 attacking players in kagawa and RVP so 2 may well leave berb and ?

if we start the season with welbeck, chica, rooney RVP,young tony, kagawa and nani i would expect rooney and rvp to start a lot of games which would suggest some of the others may struggle for games.
I wouldnt be surprised if nani left
jred

Agree0 Disagree0

Sydney you really think Anderson and Nani might leave with the season beginning and not long left in the window? Not happening. ANd if he stays fit and gets his fair share of chances (which I wodner about as think Cleverly and CArrick are going to be starters) ANderson will be a massive player this season, wait and see
Invisible STuey

Agree0 Disagree0

Mik, I did say that the offers would have to be high. While I

Agree0 Disagree0

Mik, I did say the offer would have to be high. While I think he could become great, so far Ando hasn't lived up to the potential, and I reckon your valuation is about right, but SAF likes him and is willing to give him another season to prove himself, so I reckon it'd take at least 15m to change his mind atm. If he fails to prove himself this year, he probably will be sold for 10m or less, but not yet.

I think 30m is too high for Nani, I like him, and would prefer to keep him, but I reckon 25m or maybe even a bit less would persuade SAF to sell, that would go a long way towards a suitable replacement, there are a couple of lads around who are about as good as Nani but younger, take 25m for nani, add another 10 on and we could be looking at a really promising young modern playmaker-type wideman, someone more in the mould of the two we lost out on this summer.

could any of the eds shed some light on the whole Angelo Henriquez saga please? I mean has he signed yet? or is he going to sign? thanks

Jake F {Ed007's Note - Isn't it just the work permit that is needing sorted out?}

Believable0 Unbelievable4

I have read up, and yes it seems he is going to need a 'special talent' work permit as he hasn't played for Chile yet.

Jake F

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope we loan him out. It does him no good to sit on the bench as it will be very hard to get a game with all the strikers that we have.

i have seem alot of him on espn last season and he looked alrite, really likes to get forward does a few step overs and is very pacey

he likes a shot as well much better than evra in the final 4rd didnt really see much of him defensivley, but he is probably going to do more attacking than defending and can only improve at his age.

any ideas of the price?

Just heard an interview with Dutch football analyst. Rates him quite high but mentions he is not going to get into the starting 11 and more a backup, which is what I guess we were looking for. Read an interview with him and he started as a triker and is very sure of himself and talks about how wingers hate playing him as they don' t like to track back. Same interview the guy who KFC bought he thinks he will struggle with the premiere league. Says deal is 99.99 done. Hope that helps.

He signed for PSG weeks ago!

Seriously, dude have you been hiding under a rock for the past few weeks? He buggered off to Paris Saint-Germain for more money. Was lured there by a seductive phone call made my Inter's ex-manager (now director of football of PSG) Leonardo after he had supposedly agreed terms with us. PSG gazumped us at the final hurdle. Sufficed to say Lucas Moura has been added the ever expanding list of pathetic money grabbers!

Interesting to see that the Fail on Sunday are picking up on my texts from last week and seem to think like me that Fergie knows his retirement date and it won't be more than 2 seasons. The journalists at the Fail have very good relationships with Fergie and I would be very surprised if they would print this kind of story without a little inside info. The RVP deal has really convinced me that Fergie sees the sands of time slipping away and is desperate for one last great victory. I say to you all enjoy these next two seasons as we are definitely seeing the end of Giggs and Scholes and quite possibly the Boss. This has been a golden time let us enjoy the last drops and hope that whoever comes in is strong enough to take the club on. I will be at Goodison tomorrow and I am hoping that a certain no 20 makes his debut and has a good start. I AM KLOOT

The Moon.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree. Looks like the time is coming.

G.A.G.U.S

Agree0 Disagree0

I think this maybe his last season. Red Man has touched on this before and I tend to agree with him, he believes that naming the date could be an issue and it's far more likely that he would say two more years, but actually retire at the end of the season. This would stop the players and fans from worrying during the season and ruining the season.

About the game tomorrow, I am very worried about our defence and Jelavic & Fellaini. Lets hope we can outscore them with our very impressive forward attack.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

I actually think SAF will go before he says he will, I'm thinking he's going next summer and will take up a Charlton type ambassador role.

Supasub

Agree0 Disagree0

I think guardola will come in next year. Maybe blanc but would prefer guardola.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think if saf does leave at the end of this season i think it could depend on how well he does. but harry redknap could be our next manager or maybe guardiola i wouldnt mind either of them knowone will ever be able to match the legend that is saf anyway JT-UNITED {Ed007's Note - Harry RedKnapper..... You are kidding aren't you?}

Agree0 Disagree0

When the time comes, and I agree with the posts....it will be in a season or two....Fergie will make sure the successor will be the right man. Like the fans, he lives and breaths Manchester United....he won't let us down.
We all want Fergie to go out at the top, and I believe we will have the squad to do it. The younger players will be experienced by then and our legendary 'old boys' can leave knowing the clubs still in strong position to fight for titles. Blanc, Guardiola or 'The Only One' would be my choices.....just on experience matters.
All the best to all you guys that post, and lets look forward to a successful season.

Jose Mourinho's perceived preference for Fbio Coentro all but paves the way for out-of-favour Brazilian LB Marcelo to become Sir Alex's long-term replacement for Patrice Evra, should a deal for Leighton Baines fail to materialize. A fee of £12m is thought to be enough to prize the attacking full back from Madrid.

jpem27.

Believable12 Unbelievable30

,

1st game of madrids season and because Marcelo is on the bench you make this assumption, ridonkulous,

Football is a squad game.

Cban

Agree0 Disagree0

Getting Marcelo for 12 million would be a steal, don't see it happening as he is used in the lm and lw position sometimes for Madrid, plus if they were selling him it woud be closer to the 20 million mark, Mind you i'd still pay that for him.

Agree1 Disagree0

Forget Baines or Marcelo. Alexander Büttner of Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem will have a medical at Bridgewater Hospital tomorrow (Monday 20th) ahead of a 5m (3.9m) move to Manchester United. Confirmed.

James.

Agree1 Disagree0

If the Buttner rumours are true then perhaps you couldn't have posted this at a worst time. UNLESS, we sign Marcelo and sell Evra? Perhaps wishful thinking on my part.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

I think if he was to leave he would more likely stay in Europe, maybe to one of the milans. Although I'd love to see him in a united shirt. Possibly the best LB around in my opinion

RR

Confirmed?
By whom?
Not by anyone at United. Yet.

As for Marcelo, he's not bad. But will present the exact same problem that Evra gets slated for....namely, being out of position due to attacking. He's not a great left back imo, not rubbish, but just not great.

I don't believe we have made a bid but in the enquiry phase. The deal looks to be complicated as Roma is looking at derossi to city and dejong and cash in return. Using the cash to bid for witsel. I guess it will come down to money and player preference and benfica's expectation on a fee. {Ed002's Note - You did not grasp what I said about Roma. They have no need for de Jong and Witsel. If they sell Di Rossi they need a replacement. If the sell to MC and De Jong is included in the deal then they don't. If De Jong is not included in the deal they will look to making a bid for Witsel. Believable0 Unbelievable6

The odds are as they are because of the large amount of money being put on him to United. I suspect a lot of it may have been caused by twitter talk and as more bets are being placed and the odds being lowered, the more 'excitement' and bets are being placed, lowering the odds again.

It's a bit of a spiral and I wouldn't be surprised if the odds shorten again before the end of the day, but I don't expect anything to come from it.

I really don't see how this Kaka rumour can be true. He could be great for us, but I have no idea where he would fit in. There just isn't enough room in the team.

RedDevil19

Believable10 Unbelievable2

If Kaka would be happy with a squad place then he would be an amazing addition, especially on loan as I imagine Real would still pay a % of his wages. He is a world class player. Had awful luck at Madrid but you don't lose that talent in a year. I'd say he is stronger than all our midfielders. In an attacking sense I mean. Is he what we need? No! But what a luxury to have.

Sambo

Agree0 Disagree0

There is nothing wrong with a loan I suppose as if it doesn't work out then we haven't spent millions on him. Then again, it could be an awesome move that doesn't cost us alot but just in wages. It's always good having another option and I think Kaka would jump at the chance to prove himself while playing in the best club competitions.

Believable2 Unbelievable9

Always said this will not solve anything. It would be a short term fix which would lead to lengthly problems. As before, come next season we'd have Evra, Fabio and Baines.
Fabio may come back much better and be considered a starter. So with this in mind, why would it make sense to spend around 15m on Baines?

2 reasons why this is complete rubbish:

why are people so obsessed with having someone to match yaya toure. We play city a guaranteed twice a season with the possibility of the cups. Yes we lost both league games to city but we also lost games to blackburn, newcastle and wigan and drew with everton. A win in any one of those games would have won the league. And yaya wasn't present in any of those four games. Yes we could do with an extra midfielder but stop panicking about one player in a team we only play as many times as the other eighteen in the league.

Believable16 Unbelievable8

We also beat city twice.

Ajp

Agree0 Disagree0

You've missed the point mate, it's not about somebody to match Yaya, It's about having someone with the ability and presence that Yaya has.

How many players in the United midfield can pick the ball up in his own half and literally run through an entire squad...I can think of 2, 1 is current not yet fit to play football in Fletcher and the other is Tunnicliffe...

People want that Keane, Viera, Essien 2006, etc. type player. somebody who can defend, attack and literally strike fear into the opposing midfield.

Are we lacking that? possibly but I think Fletcher and Tunnicliffe will give that back to us when they're ready to step into the first XI.

The Moon.

Agree0 Disagree0

Because Ya Ya can cause chaos and change games and is a very powerfull midfielder, something we havent got

Agree0 Disagree0

It's nothing to do with matching Toure. The fact that we lack a player of that ilk means that our defense is more susceptible to the opposition as we are weak through the middle. We are relying too much on our wing play without addressing the real problem. That said, I do think we look stronger this year.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think people are bothered about going against him mate. There stating we need that type of player in our team. A ball winner

Steve the red

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree mate. But I think what the few may be after is a player in the mould of yaya. A combative midfielder, someone who wants to do the dirty work. I personally wanted this as well, but still think we have a quality squad and don't necessarily need one but would love to see one as we light in that area of midfield

Eid Mubarak friends, enjoy what's left of the weekend

MuffinMan

Agree0 Disagree0

That's true, I think the point people are trying to make also though is the presence he brings in all games he plays, not just against us, when people mention we could do with someone to match him they mean game in, game out, against all our opposition.

Charla

Agree0 Disagree0

I totally agree with you. it is another odd opinion which continues to do the rounds. Like the idea that we need a new Roy Keane - It's like these people haven't wached the game and how it has changed in the last 10 years.

MDJ

Agree0 Disagree0

Er... because he's a great player. Its about having somebody of his quality in every match! Obvious really.
Timbo

Agree0 Disagree0

Another myth peddled by the media.
Like a midfield can't exist without "A Yaya Toure"!
Plenty of teams do just fine with one. Just 'cos they won ONE title they are not architects of a new game.

If we'd have had "a Vidic" last season, we probably would have won the title.

RedMist

Agree0 Disagree0

Great point.....we don't have a left winger like Ronaldo, or a Messi, or Yaya or Sneidjer......Must we have what everyone else has. One barren season and it's the end of the world. Trouble with most United fans, is they've got well too complacenent with regards winning trophies.....and are starting to believe the hype....that their are new dominant forces taking over. Keep the faith people....IN UNITED AND FERGIE WE MUST ALWAYS TRUST.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's not one bad season, we struggled with ugly wins in the league the last couple of years. We keep buying wingers and forwards but even Rooney looks useless in some games when our midfield can't supply a quality pass and defend higher up the pitch. Watch the city game from last year and that is enough evidence. Or watch both legs of the Bilbao game.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think as everyone said we look very average when we come up in Europe and epl against teams that have a combative midfield as scholes, giggs are not ball winners and don't frankly have the legs. Our great teams have always had guys who commanded the middle of the pitch. This has been an ongoing problem for almost 3 years and surprising why saf will not pay top dollar for a world class midfielder. I think bayerns purchase of Martinez makes them favorites for champions league.

Agree0 Disagree0

Did someone really suggest Fletcher? He is your answer into 'striking fear' into other teams lol
I have said we need a DM. This will allow our attacking side of the game to flow and also keep our shape. When we have Scholes and Carrick in the middle, neither know whether to go forward or whether to sit.

melwing28

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah but losing to city is worse than not winning the league to many.

Agree0 Disagree0

I totally agree with The Moon. Yaya is just an example, the point being that we need a ball winner. A presence of a guy who holds the midfield together. An enforcer. A Roy Keane..!

Believable2 Unbelievable29

That is a very bad idea.Nani better than Young by all means.Young should be given and not Nani

Agree1 Disagree0

Use your loaf.

Failed to get Moura, Nani has also been playing very well in the pre season. If we sell Nani then we only have Valencia and Young as our wingers? but two players that play a very similar role Sneijder and Kagawa. Wouldn't work, ever since we signed Kagawa I think any transfer regarding Sneijder has died.

I want to keep Nani, he's exciting to watch in a team that doesn't have much flair.

Ozwald

This makes no sense. We have Kagawa to play the AM role. You guys watch, Kagawa will be one of the nominees for EPL player of the year by end of season.

If we swap nani for any one we would need to then replace him with a player of the same quality which would cost us about 25 to 30 so swapping nani would be a pointless move how often do swap deals actually happen anyway I can't think if any involving quality players

You joking?! Why would we want any other old midfielder when A) it means that the living legend that is Scholes, gets less game time. B) it prevents our younger players developing as fast, most notably Cleverley and Powell, Petrucci etc.

We don't need to sign any other player unless we can sign a decent LB without having to pay an extortionate fee. A defensive midfielder isn't really needed as SAF said that we've never played with a holding midfielder, I think depending how Tunnicliffe gets on this season on loan. Rafael is a decent right back but certainly not great let alone good enough for United. Even if you watched him play for Brazil in the Olympics he made numerous basic errors, as he has consistently done for us. My issue with him is that he has not progressed over the last few seasons and if you watch him often enough I´m sure you will expect him to gift a chance to an opposing forward at least once a game. I´d rather play Smalling at RB any day.

3 things I want to ask about, get peoples views on, 1. Left back I really hope don't go for baines, I'd much rather go for Tayler of swansea, young and looks a great talent, 2. CM, we need someone, first choice would be martinez but he seems to be goign else where and would cost to much, second choice would be witsel, looks another good player, can pass and has a good eye for goal, third choice would be dembele, wouldn't cost too much and is a good hard working midfield player we need! 3. I'd like to see muniain, I think he's going to be the next big thing! And at what is it 25 eruos? I'd love to see him come to united! To the eds, great site read everyday, keep up the good work! I would love to see him in an united shirt but he had is chance last year and got to greedy, but do we really need him i would have thought united need a ball winning midfielder, 1 who can protect the back 4 while kagawa does his magic and supply his assists to rooney, van persie.

If Sneijder was swopped for Nani, then United should get him plus 10-15m. Nani is 3 years younger, nearly always fit and functions on a higher level. I think Nani will stay. If we are to sell a winger, than Young is the one who should be sold, he is clearly miles behind Nani and Tony
