Bit of a random one, but with Asamoah Gyan set to leave Sunderland on a permanent basis to an awful league. Does anybody think it would be worth us sneaking in a bid? with Berba & Owen leaving/left, Will Keane out injured & question marks still hanging over Kiko - Personally I think he'd be a good signing. {Ed007's Note - Martin, you promised my wee nephew an autographed Larsson top before you left CFC and he never got it, my mammy is still not impressed with you over that!}

Believable9 Unbelievable27

Why would anyone in there right mind think that would be a good signing

Agree0 Disagree0

Oooh yes please!!! Raving success at Sunderland, bound to be a world beater against Europe's best

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah only if we can get a cut price deal for him its not as if he will be in the starting 11

with chelsea making a bid for moses from wigan could this mean sturridge is available would people have him as one of our backup strikers
jred

Believable10 Unbelievable24

Why would he want to be a back up striker? If he's serious about playing for England he needs to go to a team where he'll get lots of playing time. We don't need another striker. We have three strikers plus Young and Kawaga and even Nani who could play the striker role if needed.

KB

Agree0 Disagree0

Defo class player and another young British player can you imagine Rooney, Welbeck and Sturridge class,
Tony Loz

Agree0 Disagree0

He is poor ,greedy and we don't want him

Pardoe

Agree0 Disagree0

Very selfish player.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

NO chance

Agree0 Disagree0

Shame about moses, clearly kalou's replacement. bench warmer.

Cban

Agree0 Disagree0

Moses would be another Turnbull, waste his career sitting in the stands, but watching his bank balance going up and collecting medals that he doesn't deserve. Chelsea only wanting him because he is homegrown and willing to sit on the bench for the rest of his career. I guess he could make the bench for the Carling Cup games ;)

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - So Manchester United have a starting 11 and this is it is it Syd. You could say this of every team.}

Agree0 Disagree0

United put trust their youth, not buy homegrown players in from other clubs just to sit them in the stands. The whole point of bringing in the homegrown rules was to get teams to produce their own talent. Buying players just to keep your homegrown quota up seems wrong IMO. All teams have squads and some players rarely get to play, but even you must admit that buying players like Moses just to sit in the stands and play in the League Cup just to fit in with regulations is not right. Why not put their trust in someone from the reserves or academy?

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - Like Smalling and Jones. Chelsea have a lot of players coming through - I really don't see why you are bleating about this.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Smalling and Jones are the future England and United CB pairing. Are Chelsea looking at Moses as the future Chelsea number 11 or just someone that will keep their homegrown quota in check? I like the look of Bamford and especially McEachran, but not sure they will get their chances at Chelsea unfortunately for them.

Thanks for the reply on Rodriguez yesterday Ed. Can I ask what your friend thinks about the Nani situation if it was discussed at all? And anything new on Gaitan? Thanks.

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - The likes of Bamford and McEachran are not applicable to the home grown quota yet Syd. By then the likes of Piazon will count as home grown as well - like Bertrand and Huthinson are.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I really like the look of Bamford and we all know about McEachran. Both should become top players in the near future. Would love to nab Josh, was a huge United fan before he signed for Chelsea, season ticket holder along with his mammy. We were slow to move there.

Ed, do you have any latest on Gaitan? Or do you think that ship has sailed? Thanks.

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - Manchester United and Barcelona both showed interest in the winger but Inter PSG or Napoli may be the first to eventually put an offer on the table for Gaitan. My understanding is that Manchester United and PSG did speak with Benfica in January but no bid was made. I understand that it remains the case that no firm bid has been made but Benfica are aware of sustained interest and are aware that Inter Milan are now looking at the player. Asking price is and will continue to be an issue. If Manchester United can agree a price I am told that the player would welcome the move. Napoli are actively seeking a replacement for Lavezzi and still may return for Gaitan or Ramirez.}

why oh why do people want us to sign modric or any other midfielder of that type. we have signed kagawa and have scholes for another season which fergiree confirmed that scholes will play 20-30 games next season. also cleverly still plays for us incase some of u forgot that. why would we scupper his potential and sign someone like modric. as far as im aware kagawa is the creative spark we have lacked to play in the middle or an advanced role. its obvious we need to add a rock in the middle, a solid box to box midfileder or 1 who sits. also why if it is true are we pushing nani out the door, hes a top quality player. i personally would like for young to be shown the door if its the case of having a winger make space. nani is much better than young. young gets thrown all over the park and isnt anywhere near technically as good as nani. fair enough young is good at crossing and set pieces but i dont feel he should be anywhere near the united line up. look at the difference between their performances at the euros.

Believable22 Unbelievable28

Will cleverley & anderson stay injury free? will fletcher be available? scholes is great, but not for 90 mins. modric would improve the team

Agree0 Disagree0

Nani may be going but the reason is plainly obvious . For every good game he has you get another 3 average ones . He can't take a decent corner for Utd most of his never get beyond the first defender .

Agree0 Disagree0

Young is a lot more consistent than Nani. Nani 1 good game in 5. Haw many times has he got in an excellent position to cross and fluffed it. United as a team get a lot more out of young as they do Nani. I would drive Nani to any team in Europe that offered 25M+ myself.

Redchad

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree totally we don't need modric for 30mill just a holding midfielder and keep NANI people seem to forget his assists and that he was injured for most of last season
redtonka

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with most of what you have said except the end piece, on that logic Arsenal must be gunna sell RVP and promote Bendtner. Also did you see Nani's miss?
RedHead

Agree0 Disagree0

Completely disagree. We have no player like schooled in the team. I hate it when people say that because a player plays in cm an so does another then they are the same! Scholars could play perhaps 1 in 3 game and even then he won't last 90 mins. Modric and cleverly are completely different players. Cleverly I direct and a goalscorer whereas as scholes and modric set the tempo and keep the ball. I do think we need a tough tackling midfielder though.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cleverley is great player but dont forget he is new hargreaves

Agree0 Disagree0

Nani equals no end product! I would have Young and Valencia anyday over him in our lineup. Technical ability isn't everything and I think the difference Valencia makes to our performances proves that.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think it's harsh to say Nani has 'no end product', I'm not his biggest fan, but when he gets his head up hid delivery is very good. Just doesn't do it enough for me. I've been looking at other players, only youtube but I do think there's brighter prospects out there which we could buy with the funds from Nani's sale.

Kai

Agree0 Disagree0

We need creativity in the middle of the park as well as some solidity. It's clear to anyone who watches United and wants the best for them, that is where the team is weakest. In fact it's weaker in central midfield than any other team in EPL top six.It's pointless to sell quality and silly to rely on the average. Nani, if sold, would be replaced by Rodriguez or some such player. So we sell Nani for 30m and buy a replacement for 25-30m senseless. It's in the nature of wingers and all creative players to have an element of inconsistency. Look around and the only truly consistent winger is Messi, even Ronaldo has had two poor games and one excellent game ay the Euros. Nani has had a 6 out of 10, a 7 out of 10 and an 8 out of 10 game and that's allowing for an awful miss. Young has been non existent a 5 out of 10 and a 4 out of 10 at the Euros. As for midfield, I agree we need a holding midfielder, like M'Vila or Tiote, or a box to boxer like Strootman. We also need a creative midfielder, Anderson must go, when he's not injured he has 2 or 3 good games per season, in fact since he's been with us I've only seen him have half a dozen good games. If we can get 7 million or more he has to go. Fletcher, even when well, is a real grafter, but he's not of the highest quality. As for Cleverly, he's fantastically overrated, he just isn't of the class we need.I would try out Petrucci in the place of Anderson, or Cleverley. I think we should go for M'villa and Cabaye if we have the cash. If as I expect we will only have 20 million sales and another 25 million from the Glazers, that would leave us with with 30 million. Kagawa was just over 12 million down and Powell was just under 3 million down, that's 15 million. Strootman or Tiote and Dembale (not my number one choice, but the best we'll be able to get for 12-14m), I would also like Cissoko but that would require another 6 - 8 million being freed up by the Glazers. I wish people wouldn't keep writing that Kagawa solves our lack of midfield guile! He either plays wide on the left, or his preferred position is in the hole. because of this, I don't think buying a striker is necessary. As for Scholes, I think he was the greatest of the class of 92, but again if you want the best for the club and for the man, he should only play for an hour at a time for about 20 games. His legs have gone, against any youthful athletic, quick midfielder, that doesn't give him time to settle, he struggles. I would rather remember him as the Mancunian Iniesta he was in his pomp. Same goes with Giggsy.
Mik

Agree0 Disagree0

Young performed much better in the united shirt last season specially towards the end nani is hot and cold, nani can be the best player 1 game then the next two games off form!

Agree0 Disagree0

Why do we need Modric?

Scholes will be gone in a year so he doesn't enter our long term plans. As a club we always look to the future not just the NOW so we should get in Scholes' replacecement before he leaves

We have been lacking creativity in CM for years, which Modric gives. Kagawa will add flair in the final 3rd whilst Modric will control play and create from the heart of midfield. Kagawa will be 'our Iniesta' whilst Modric would be 'our Xavi'. Sorry for using those 2 as an example but positionally and tactically they are good examples (not necessarily in terms of class obv)

Cleverly will get lots of games whatever happens, it's a squad game. But we must remember that he is also an injury worry, so what happens if he's unfit will Scholes then have to play all 55 games?

Gav

Agree0 Disagree0

We need Modric because he is a genuine world class playmaker. Scholes is still able to do a job against 70% of the teams in the EPL but against City and such and in Europe we dont measure up. As for Kagawa. who knows what he brings. I dont disagree that we need a ballholding midfield player too though.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just come back from euros talking to spurs fans asked about modric they don't rate him they said if we buy him for 20mill its too much sed theyed drive him to utd themselves also talked to Germans they said kagawa goes past players with speed and is very creative like scholes sed utd will be very impressed with him as for modricnot good enough for ud he dissappears in big games in my opinion diehard74

Agree0 Disagree0

Diehard74 -All the Spuds fans I've spoken too, don't want Modric sold. They all think he's fantastic, in fact even better than he is. They talk of him being worth 40m minimum. Take a look at the Spurs page on here. He is far better than anyone we have in midfield. Modric and M'Vila would be my dream ticket for United.

He looks good little player and worth taking a gamble as he is not going to cost much.

With scholes around for a year we can give this lad a chance and see how he performs.

Victor J {Ed007's Note - I'd have thought the reason would be pretty obvious. It's because Utd aren't interested in him.}

I cant claim to be an insider at OT and this is just my opinion.. But if we are looking to offload Nani then surly the time is now? he is impressing at the euros which for me is just papering over his many cracks. We know what he is like.... but other clubs may see him at the euros and forget all about his annoyingness. I'd rather sell him now for £25mil than risk another season of poor crosses and single mindedness

Believable22 Unbelievable20

I fully agree. People always come on here saying he's better than this or that but the sensible move would be to sell him, get a very good fee and strengthen our left side, which is what I believe we are looking to do

Agree0 Disagree0

Would take someone's arm off if we could get £25m for Nani. He may well become a great player for someone else but it just aint happened in a United shirt.

Halesini

Agree0 Disagree0

Abit more than 25million mate. In the current market u gotta be looking 30+....

Agree0 Disagree0

It confuses me how players that leave United are worth only £25 million, but we would sign Modric for £30 million. Surely Nani is worth more to the club due to his goals and assists despite his inconsistency.

GDS

Agree0 Disagree0

Please NOOOOO!, not another Nani debate!lol

Charla

Agree0 Disagree0

I for one love nani and cannot understand why people want to see him go. Yes he is frustrating at times but as we saw the season before last, he can be consistently world class. IMO the only reason we didnt see his best stuff last season is injuries stopping him from getting a decent run of games. If we do end up selling him its surely going to be for more than £25m especially if we get james rodriguez for the same amount. rodriguez couldnt possibly be better than nani right now and seeing as hes unproven he may never even get as good as nani is now. people forget that nani was also once "one of the hottest prospects in world football".

Liamidas

Agree0 Disagree0

Please just stop. Now.

We will never have any agreement on this.

Some of us think his inconsistency is a price worth paying for what he's capable off on his better days, some of us think he's not good enough on his good days to make the inconsistency worthwhile.

Can we just stop debating this and wait to see what actually happens with him, if he stays, Fergie thinks he's good enough and he knows better than any of us. If he goes, Fergie didn't think he's good enough, and again, he knows better than us.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd offload Young but never Nani. Hes a match winner, & you dont sell match winners

Agree0 Disagree0

Original poster here (aware I need to sign off with something) but i'd only keep him as a supersub, i'd rather have valencia on the right and young on the left ( i know young can be inconsistent too)

1993

Agree0 Disagree0

Nani had some good, some bad games last year. That is a hazard of being a winger. Plus he was injured a few times so he didn't play regularly. Plus our style of put the ball out wide and cross was not too great. He is an attacker more than a winger. That sounds weird but he plays a more fluid style than most wingers and he is great behind the striker. He passing is good enough as is his shooting, but I feel like many others he just needs the brain to match. Gilly

What are the chances of us getting Sahin? No playing time at Real, and we have always had a good relationship with them, as well as being interested in Sahin last summer, he's a quality player!

MelonRed

Believable19 Unbelievable10

A good relationship with Madrid? The team we 'wouldn't sell a virus to'?

GDS

Agree0 Disagree0

Not to mention his already established relationship with kagawa!

Gar

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes I recall Fergie speaking very favourably of Real Madrid when they were after Ronaldo!
Woffsta

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he is seen as the long term replacement for Xabi Alonso, he had quite a lot of injuries last seaso and will get more exposure this year with the probable departures of Diarra, Granero and Kaka.

RedDevil19

Agree0 Disagree0

When i say a good relationship, we've done many deals with them in the past, and Fergie and Mourinho have a lot of respect for each other.

Melonred

Agree0 Disagree0

I never understand why people seem to think we have a good relationship with Real.
Yes we've sold them players, under very trying circumstances, with Madrid doing their utmost to bully us into selling. Hardly foundations of a great relationship.
As GDS said, "I wouldn't sell that shower a virus" is not a complement or testimony to a tight professional relationship.

Bob

Agree0 Disagree0

Forget Sahin - I think we should have kept Saha - a tricky target man who was good from lobg range. Him and Berb up front would be ace.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sahin was injured most of last season. Mourinho rates him highly so am sure if he stays he will get lots of playing time seeing as Lass, Granero, Kaka, Khedira maybe leaving.
Ozil, Sahin, Modric, Alonso will all get adequate playing time.

Can someone tell me what the hell Real Madrid are going to do with Modric? Sahin, Khedira, Alonso, Ozil...etc etc where does he fit in?

Are they buying him so no-one else will?

Stuey {Ed002's Note - Granero, Gago, Kaka and Diarra may well all be leaving from midfield. There have been discussiopn about Sahin leaving as well.}

Believable16 Unbelievable5

Cheers Ed

Do you expect us to be interested if Sahin is made available? Would be an ideal addition.

Stuey {Ed002's Note - Sahin has had injury problems this year but rumours do persist about his long term future. If he were to leave I would very much suspect a move to Italy (possibly with AC Milan) or a return to Germany (with Bayern Munich) would come before any thoughts of a move to England. Malaga also spoke to Madrid about the possibility of a loan and Galatasaray would like to take him to Turkey.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed! Do u think anyone worth considering from Madrid in case modric goes there.

Victor J. {Ed002's Note - I am pretty sure Manchester United's transfer policy is not based on picking up scraps from Madrid depending on who they buy. But there are certainly plenty of midfield players available from there.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I think its fairly simple Stuey, Modric will line up in many games alonside Alonso but will probably dropped for Khedira in the bigger games and a few away games. Granero, Gago and Diarra will all likely leave. Ozil will play in the attacking midfield role. Di Maria could probably also leave and Lucas Moura i think may come in.

Ed002 Are Real Madrid interested in Modric? If so is a move likely or could he end up at United?

REDMOZ {Ed002's Note - There is serious interest from Real Madrid, Manchester United and PSG. Against Real Madrid is that they will need to offer a player as part of the deal or sell a player to raise hard cash.}

Believable11 Unbelievable3

Ed002, Do you know which club Modric favours? If Modric were to sign for Madrid would Sahin be available? Is there any interest in sahin from United?

REDMOZ {Ed002's Note - I don't know which club he favours but he has said previously that he would like to play in Spain. I do not see Sahin at Manchester United. If he were to leave I would very much suspect a move to Italy (possibly with AC Milan) or a return to Germany (with Bayern Munich) would come before any thoughts of a move to England. Malaga also spoke to Madrid about the possibility of a loan and Galatasaray would like to take him to Turkey.}

Agree0 Disagree0

He may want to go to Madrid but they are skint. Every year they seem to spend money on transfers like drunken sailors. An article I saw today said they are 590million Euros in debt. If they want more money for transfers where are they going to get it from ? Spanish Banks ? Spanish Government ? Neither have a pot to p!ss in. Interesting to see how long they can splash the cash like lunatics. Modric will not go to Spain. The question is do we want Modric or not ? I suspect there are other younger and better value for money targets around ... unless we get a great deal of course ..

Agree0 Disagree0

Aren't they underwritten by the King Of spain hence they always get millions to spend

Agree0 Disagree0

I love how you say Madrid can't buy Modric cos they're in debt.

Do you realise your on the man utd rumours site, and if you do then I think you should know..SO ARE WE!

Red Joe

Agree0 Disagree0

Red Joe: I understand that we are in debt but we do not throw our money around like idiots, unlike Real Madrid who spent approx GBP 135 million on 2 players alone a few seasons back. United refuse to entertain the "deal" if they don't feel they get value for money, unlike Madrid who always seem to swept along with the emotion of the transfer window despite their huge debts. I'm sure we have a figure in mind for Modric (if we are even interested, which I'm not convinced about) and if it goes beyond that, there's no deal. Similar to Sneijder. Thats my point.

Agree0 Disagree0

Real Madrid's finances are not as bad as barca's. Plus, Madrid dont buy players outright, the stagger the payments for years. On top of that, they can always sell players to raise funds or enter some dubious off-balance sheet financing arrangement. Besides, If you have a look at their financial reports, you will notice they are running at profit.
Basically, If Madrid really want Modric, they will probably get him.

Millz

Agree0 Disagree0

Dubious off-balance sheet finance arrangements ? By that do you mean that they are attempting to hide their debts ? Sounds like the Enron scandal in the US a few years back ?! Anyway Madrid also want Neymar, Maicon and Lucas Moura. Not much change from 100m and add Modric to that. How long can Madrid carry on like that ? Then of course there's the UEFA Financial Fair Play rules. Don't think Modric is on United's agenda anyway. {Ed002's Note - Real Madrid are looking at a player plus cash deal for Modric. They need to pretty much balance the books this year for sales and purchases but will be clearing out midfield and some loan players. They have already had one player plus cash deal rejected in Brazil but are still shopping at Harrods rather than Tesco.}

A source close to SAF claims that he is close to tying up a deal for Alessandro Del Piero on a one year pay as you play contract to replace Owen/Berbatov with possibly a young striker also on the way to Old Trafford. Would be a brilliant addition to the squad in my opinion.

Believable13 Unbelievable36

Brilliant...its laughable!
What does is say about United bringing in a 37 year old player on a one year deal. It was bad enough when he brought Owen in and he was only 30 at the time.
Do you really see this signing vastly improving our chances in the Premiership and in Europe? No me neither.

Simmo

Agree0 Disagree0

Might not be bad. Del Piero could be someone who could help Kiko as his development has stalled. Don't know if Ferguson wants to bring in someone too young as we have Rooney, Chicharito and Welbeck and with Will Keane showing promise for the future. Just hope the injury that Will got doesn't hinder his promising career he can have.

Agree0 Disagree0

With berbatov and owen leaving, fergie may go for an experienced striker without having to pay much in the process. Would not be suprised if Del Piero came, although I would prefer Raul.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeh right! and Man United are changing there name to Oldman United ? get real

Agree0 Disagree0

Del Piero has been one of the best strikers around in the last 15 years, it would be comical if United signed him at the age of 37 but would be brilliant to see him in a United Shirt - New number 7 ;)

Giants14

Agree0 Disagree0

Del Piero still has three more good years in him. He likes to hold the ball up which is exactly what we need. I for one will have my fingers crossed !

Agree0 Disagree0

Truly a great player, in his prime, but just like the talk of Seedorf, i thnk Del Piero is past his best.
The pace of Serie A is one thing, but throw himinto the frantic Prem and the pace might get the best of him.
However, i can see Fergie giving it some thought simply because he wouldn't be playing that regularly. A top pro to have around the kids and could be useful in the right games.

I keep reading that strootman can't be good cus he didn't play for holland, but I bet none of you would say no to gotze coming to united? And has he played a part for ze Germans? No! I bet none of you strootman critics have seen him play apart from clips on YouTube and to be honest with you, neither have I, but if Fergie does have any real interest in him then he can't be that bad

RR

Believable13 Unbelievable6

I was under the impression gotze is injured long term. thats why he wasnt picked.

rddu {Ed002's Note - You must be thinking of someone else.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I havent seen Strootman play at all, even on youtube, but I have watched a lot of Dortmund's games over the last 2 years; so I have no idea whether Strootman would be a good signing or not. However there is a world of difference between not getting into a team that has failed to perform this summer, especially defensively, when KS is a DM, and not getting into a team that is chock-a-block with creative talent, who are much more experienced than MG, no matter how much potential he has.
As I said I havent seen Strootman play at all, but your comment is meaningless. I've not seen Jagielka play this tournament either, but I know he isnt Utd standard

Jaxer

Agree0 Disagree0

Good point about the comparison with Goetze but Strootman is still not good enough.

Agree0 Disagree0

No chance...get real

Agree0 Disagree0

Already covered. Can't be bothered to go into too much detail - but...

Gotze suffered a serious injury this season and has only played around 140 minutes for Dortmund in the whole of 2012. His injury and lack of match time is probably a big contributing factor to his lack of football for the Germans.

On top of that - Germany won all three games (the only team to do so in the whole competition) and Ozil (who is probably the German player who would make way in the starting 11 for Germany) has a had a decent tournament. In comparison De Jong has been poor and Holland (who, let's not forget, began the tournament as third favorites to win it) have gone out without gaining a single point.

T0MB0Z

Agree0 Disagree0

Doesn't really matter if you think he isn't good enough because the only person who's input is valid is Sir Alex... His opinion is the only one that matters.

fearny

Agree0 Disagree0

Who ever thinks that about Strootman hasn't seen him play.
Believe me he is 100 times the player that that donkey Van Bommel is but because he's the managers son in law somehow he always gets picked....i wonder why.
Strootman has everything you need in a midfielder, strong, good tackler and a box to box player and he's still learning.
What better club to learn at then Man United.
Him and M'Villa would be my two signings

Simmo

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with simmo strootman has the potential to be world class and should have started for holland.

sparkyred

Agree0 Disagree0

100 times the player Van Bommell is? Van Bommell is ageing and primarily a workhorse, but he if he is a donkey having played for Milan and Barcelona amongst others doesnt that make Strootman Pele then if 100 times better, wow we must sign him up! I think the point the original poster is making is that people want to sound clever saying how great or bad a player is, giving there opinions and in depth knowledge of a player they often havent even seen play more than twice if at all
Invisible STuey

Agree0 Disagree0

Simmo. I've watched him play about 5 or 6 times in the league and a couple of times in Europe and haven't been much impressed. At times he looks like he might have the potential to be world class but others looks like he might as well be off the pitch for all his ineffectiveness. His age may help his cause in some respects - but at 22 I'd expect a little more promise from anybody who was going to make it to the top.

He's not 100 times better than Van Bommel at all (they are about level with each at distinctly contrasting stages of their careers) but will learn a lot from him if he remains at PSV next season. In a few years time he might be a player who can change a game - but then again he might turn out to be another Ricardo Quaresma.

You are right when you say there are people on this site that haven't seen him play - but it's not those questioning his ability. For the most part it's the ones who are suggesting that he should sign for Manchester United this summer and would walk into our starting line-up that are ignorant to his current level and seem intent on using youtube and made up rumors in newspapers to justify their 'beliefs' and pass them off as knowledge.

Update on modric, player initailly wanted united transfer but we wont pay the fee spurs want (after tonights performance i would pay it personally).
i asked around few people i know think rumours of real madrid could be true others say its papertalk due to croatia playing spain.
I am told now croatia are out his future will be sorted in next 7-10 days with player likely to submit 2nd transfer request in 12 months.

I was told 100% he wanted the united move last week, but that was before madrid shown any interest. Madrid would need to sell first to buy?
Spurs are looking for £35 million am led to believe, and the only club out the 3 interested who would bid that is PSG. (who player least favours). If we came in and bid acceptable, player i feel would join us.
I wouldnt myself entirely rule city out the running.

The transfer fee Spurs wanted for Modric was always going to be 30million or above, we're dealing with Daniel Levy!

The point is though, if Modric was the piece of the jigsaw that enabled us to reclaim the Premiership and have a good run in Champions league then surely that's what we need to pay.

We didnt duck out of 30 million for Ferdinand or Rooney because we knew long term it would be good for the club in terms of silverware.

My concern is that if we're effectively ruling out anyone above say 25 million then where does that leave us?, going out of the champions league at the group stage again will prob cost us what it would require to buy Modric in terms of revenue, agree we were unlucky in Premiership but if I'm honest in Europe we were absolutely dreadful, we really can't afford a repeat of that.

The question we should be asking, whether it is Modric or anyone else, is not can we afford them, but can we afford not to buy them, improvements do need to be made in middle of the park, we all come up with suggestions etc but the bottom line is if you want someone outstanding then they're not going to come cheap. At the moment we seem to be wanting top class Harrods players with a Poundland budget.

The option of course is to find youngsters to develop into top players, but I honestly think you need a mix of both experience and youth but we seem reluctant to bring that higher profile player in at the moment due to the same thing, cost.

Don't forget, you win nothing with kids!lol

I totally agree with you Charla,
Modric last week had agreed to terms with united and it was down to us to agree a fee with spuds. Player perfers us and that was b4 Real Madrid came in.

My own opinion - I dont believe he is Madrid bound i feel thats paper talk.

Future will be known in next 7-10 days and i do believe he will be a united player and thats my neck on the line on this one
