Minnows Novara beat Inter 3.1 today, they lost to trabzonspor 1.0 in Europe last week and Sneijder was in the team on both occasions. We have started the season on blistering form, our finances are ship-shape.

Did we have a lucky escape guys?

Sydney!

Believable13 Unbelievable7

Bearing in mind syd that sneijder isn't playing his best at the moment, his mind isn't in the right place as he obviously wanted the transfer, and he doesn't fit into gasperini's plans that well without a lot of head scratching.. I think inter have done themselves over by not being able to sell sneijder!

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

'Oz'

It's Sneijder or/and his agent that messed up any chance of a deal going through by not agreeing to the package United offered him, from what has been said it was a tasty package too. This would have been his only chance of playing for United, SAF won't go back now.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Gasperini and his 3-4-3 formation is the problem at Inter. Sneijder's played on the left wing in recent matches, I wouldn't read too much into his or Inter's current form. After they lose to Roma at the weekend, Gasperini will be sacked and I'm sure the club will get back on track.

Matthew...

Agree0 Disagree0

Sydney

Sneijders head will not be on the game for a few weeks at least, very similar situation to Modric.
I doubt SAF would ever go back in that direction especially given his age.

Now instead of just talking about Pogba, wasnt Fryers an interesting player?

Red Man

Agree0 Disagree0

I know i'm not saying we'll ever go back in for him now, it was then or never.. I'm just saying inter would have been better off if they managed to sell him because of the money they would have received. I agree it was either sneijder or his agent that killed the deal, i suppose at the end of the day they're the ones missing out the most as i don't think he'll do well this season.

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

'Red Man'

Zeki was very good today mate, he is very speedy, just needs to bulk up a little and that will come with age. He is also a very useful left-back so should have a good career at the club. I would loan him out personally as he is certainly ready.

Macheda has clearly blown his United chances, the boy is so selfish and never passes. He will be sold in the summer. Shame because he can be a good player.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed, being honest i saw Fryers in the starting line up and didn't know what to expect but i was impressed, played his role very well. I've never really liked Macheda much, his ego is too big for united! Nani has a big ego but all the while he is playing like he is i have no problems with it! But macheda.. well let's take the highest bidder please!

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

'Oz'

To be fair Nani is actually very shy, doesn't go clubbing like Macheda and he is settled down with his missus. Nani couldn't be in a better place at the moment. Lets hope he keeps firing on the field.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Our financies are not "ship shape".
Nearly 500m in debt due purely to our owners. They are having to sell shares to cope. Typical opportunist Glazer propaganda because we have started the season well.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree fryers played very well, and the sneidjer saga well i think we got a lucky escape too. Whether the manager at inter is the cause or not sneidjer isnt playing well and a "great player" should play well in any situation on the pitch. Also after hearing all the talk about paul pogba i was very disappointed with him, he is not what people made him out to be. "Useless"

Agree0 Disagree0

Actually 320ish in the hole, but still one of the top teams in the world, and for me the only team
Debts coming down even though not good, end of the day still THE team to beat

Pardoe

Agree0 Disagree0

'1st no namer'

What has the gross debt got to do with our yearly finances? Our debt occurred due to a leveraged buyout, not because the club is struggling to cope financially. The Glazers do not need to float part of the club on the market because they cannot keep up with United's costs, they are doing it to pay of the refinanced PIKs and so that they can pay off the bonds to take dividends from the club instead of paying interest to the banks. In other words it will end up putting more money into their pockets. If the Glazers use the floated money to pay off most or all of our debt then that can only be good news for our club.

United's finances are in ship-shape condition, that isn't Glazer propaganda, that's fact.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

'2nd no namer'

Although probably the same moronic tool, Pogba is 18 years old and played as a holding midfielder. What did you expect to see? Did you think he would take on the whole Leeds team then hit it top corner? Did you expect a hat-trick on his 45 minute debut. He did the job he was supposed to do and he coped pretty well. He shown glimpses of what he can do when given space and he done it against a very brutal Leeds team who gave him no time on the ball and wrestled him to the ground as often as they could.

By calling a MANCHESTER UNITED youngster "Useless" you are obviously a bitter Liverpool fan, so I can forgive you for your immature observation.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

I dont think Inters results bare anything on whether we were "lucky" to escape Sneider or not. I still havent seen anything concrete but rumours and talk from the player to suggest we offered him any package at all. As for the person talking about Pogba, deary me!! I thought he showed two things in his debut. With a couple of his long range passes and his movement and eagerness moving towards the ball he showed glimpses of utter quality. He also made a few mistakes during the game, and a slight lack of concentration that shows to me overall he can certainly be a massive player for us, but he isnt ready for a regular place in the team yet. I DO however think he is ready for a place in the squad and already close to making the bench. But "useless" really, were you expecting the finished article and a Messi like performance from the hype? He did ok
Invisible STuey

Agree0 Disagree0

Paul pogba is a fantastic player who is well on his way of becoming a star. The french u-19 captain showed on some occasions that he is capable of a killer pass. For a debutant he recieved a lot of the ball.Seriously what do you expect from a lad on his debut? Score a hat trick? Run through the leeds defence like hes playing fifa? Lol mate! You clearly are a joke!

Agree0 Disagree0

'I.S'

Sneijder & Moratti have confirmed we had unofficial talks with his reps. What do you think we offered him? Cheaper car insurance? SAF has also confirmed that he wanted the player, but not as a replacement for Scholes. What more do you need? That is the most evidence anyone of us is going to get as these things are done behind closed doors and are not filmed for our viewing. We tried to sign Sneijder, why is that so hard to believe?

I agree about Pogba, he was good and it was good performance for an 18 year old debutant. I think the fellow poster was a Liverpool fan on a wind up. I suppose all they have got to look forward to in midfield is spud faced Spearing.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Our finances are NOT ship-shape, its slightly better than last year but the debt is still ridiculously high.

J

Agree0 Disagree0

'J'

Our debt is £70m better of than last year, we could afford to pay £51m in interest and buy back £64m worth of bonds and still post a £30m pretax profit. Our finances are ship-shape. I have a feeling by this time next season our debt will be less than £100m. Remember, some debt is good debt for tax reasons.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Look the reason wes isnt playin his best is clearly bcuz he wanted the transfer to united and surely now when inter are under-performing snijder will realise united is where he should be

Aaronaldo7

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought Pogba played well the other day, very calm and controlled which is rare for an 18 year old! Also for those of you that didn't know, he picked up a slight knock in a reserves game a few days before, obviously was fit enough to play as SAF wouldn't risk it but i don't think he was 100%, it was just a good opportunity to play him so SAF did just that.

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

Liverpool supporter? Hilarious..
im a born a bread united fan. You moronic tool.. simply i said he is made out to be something he is not. 18 or not he was only playing against leeds. look at the likes of ramsey and wilshere same age group a lil bit more experienced but the standard much higher.. maybe im wrong about him but only time will tell.. so if im wrong ill hold my hands up..

Well if you are Manchester United born and bred, then act like it. He is an 18 year old kid, give him chance to develop, players bloom at different times. If you want to see what he is about, watch this clip and tell me he's useless.

Amos; Valencia, Fryers, Carrick, Fabio; Giggs, Park, Macheda; Diouf, Owen & Berba.

Thats the team, couldn't have guessed it. 4 strikers and 2 midfielders in defence haha.

Rudderpost

Believable8 Unbelievable1

Lol i think thats worse than what most of us guessed at. Carrick in defence? Macheda in midfield?

Agree0 Disagree0

A strange team even by SAF's league cup record...

Owen to play centre midfield?

Agree0 Disagree0

Hold judgement until the end but it looks like 11 picked on who needs game time rather than any plan or system......##oxred

No body judging the team, just noting it's strange which it clearly is!

Is there any chance of Freddy Guarin being bought from Porto? From what I've seen he's a talented young playmaker who can score.

I'd like to see him or javi martinez join either in January or the summer. Does anyone know if they've been on the clubs radar?

Adam

Believable4 Unbelievable7

Both have been looked at, Modric more likely though

AVB has made a complaint to Riley about Phil Dowd's refereeing on Sunday. Correct me if I'm wrong but then only two mistakes I could see were offsides for the goals and they weren't his fault. As I say correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think he has a lot more to complain about.

Believable14 Unbelievable0

I wonder if AVB will mention the lack of red card and penalty for Cole's tackle on Hernandez? Somehow I doubt it...

Red Dawn

Agree0 Disagree0

It doesn't even matter, it wont change anything! AVB needs to move on! Think about how many times fergie has complained about the refs for various reasons and nothing has come of it...

Agree0 Disagree0

Didn't Drogba score from an offside position a couple years back that ultimately won them the league? I guess Chelsea are more p1ssed off with the fact that Atkinson wasn't refereeing.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

What about Cole's tackle on Hernandez? Cole was lucky he didn't get sent off for that and Chelsea are even luckier that the penalty was not given because "the ball was out of play". What a load of bull that is. How many times has Joey Barton been sent off for something he has done when the ball has been out of play?

What about the ball Evra tried to play across the floor into the box which was blocked by the hand of Ivanovic when he slid to block it? Whether he done it on purpose or not... handball is handball and the foul should've been given.

Chelsea are sore losers. The players, the staff and the fans... all of them.

Agree0 Disagree0

Last poster, the Ivanovic hand ball wan't a penalty-he didn't deliberately handle it. The others I agree with you about however.

Welsh Dragon

Agree0 Disagree0

The main point is will he get a a warning regards to future conduct for daring to suggest the officials are wrong?

answers on a postcard...

Do not bother, they scored an offside goal against us and got a dubious penalty last year.

U all saying about didi's offside goal... what about macheda's handball in the same game!

papers are reporting that chelsea are set to make a 20 mill bid for Ross Barkley in Jan have you heard any rumors edd
jred {Ed007's Note - He will be linked with everyone, there isn't much to fill papers with these days.}

Believable8 Unbelievable1

Right said,..Ed.
In another paper,it was mentioned Man City are going for De Rossi in Jan...(LMAO)

So its just paper stuff.. {Ed007's Note - What about Tevez to Madrid in a swap for di Maria? Although I am not sure if it will be attempted in January or next summer.}

Agree0 Disagree0

'jred'

I have already quizzed the Chelsea Ed on this one bud, he says it seems unlikely. If you remember the Mirror done the same thing when we spoke to Everton regarding Rodwell, instead they used the fee £30m. I think they are trying to start a saga. It's pointless a 17 year old signing for Chelsea when they rarely give youth the opportunity to play. It has been a major struggle for Sturridge and he is still far from cementing a place in the team. McEachran thought he would get a look in then they go and buy Ramires, Mata & Meireles. I think his "people" would advise him to sign for a top four club where he would get the best opportunity to make a position his own. I think Arsenal or United could offer him a good future. Hopefully us ;)

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Scott Sinclair was talking about it earlier, saying its a waste of time a young player going to them because the opportunities aren't there.

I like Sinclair, good player. And no i;m not touting him for a transfer. Just hope when Swansea go down he gets a move to a decent club.

i do believe we'll go for cavani, just because sir alex praise him a lot,how good and goal scorer.

Believable4 Unbelievable7

This summer's transfer window just gone... Napoli put a 100 million euro's price tag on Cavani and 100 million euro's on Hamsik. They won't be going anywhere.

Also, SAF won't buy any big players in January because they wouldn't be allowed to play in European cup matches. He has the team it takes to win the league for a 20th time but I'm not convinced this team is good enough to beat Barcelona in the champions league.

have heard a whisper that west ham are interested in bringing back several of their ex youth players if they come up this season. Rio was mentioned but not as the highest priority. That was defoe and cole. Just what i got told.

Believable3 Unbelievable12

If Rio ever left United whilst still able to play, Spurs will likely be the destination if Harry is still there.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Can they please take Carrick also

Agree0 Disagree0

So joe cole, carrick, ferdinand, defoe, lampard etc signing? that's some wage bill for a championship team.

Idiot.

I dont think carrick or lampard were mentioned in the original post? and it was clearly stated that they would try to make these signings IF they get promoted i.e. OUT OF the championship

Oswald has stated that Valencia is to fill in at right back tonight. I personally think this could be a position he makes his own! With the form Nani and Young are showing Valencia's game time could be limited but at right back he has all the attributes, Quick, Strong, can cross the ball. He could be similar to the great Cafu! Also would allow the Da Silva brothers to compete for left back, they can both play there before anyone says one or both are right backs, Dennis Irwin was right footed! Might just add tho I do not believe Evra is past it and his experience in the young defence we are currently playing with is essential!

Ports

Believable15 Unbelievable6

Good point, It's like dani alves is amazing at going forward, you could play him on the wing anyday of the week! Valencia i reckon definitely could have a good bash at becoming a full back as he does have all the right attributes it's just whether or not he likes to play in that position.. I think smalling will be the player to fill the RB position the majority of this season, he's progressing too fast to leave him out the team!

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

He is good at filling in there for part of a game or in an emergency but it is not his proper position-that is right wing. Someone also says about Dani Alves but that isn't right either as it is much easier to move from full back to wing as wing is just full back but without the defensive duties. Finally, saying he should play at full back is like saying Rooney should play CDM as he is always getting back and giving good cover.

Agree0 Disagree0

Firstly I said could make it his own an not should play there and gave valid reasons for him to do the job there, secondly saying it's like telling Rooney to play CDM as he always get's back is the WORST comparison ever! Thirdly, the comment about it being easier to play go from full back to wing because it's the same without the defending bit? Wingers don't defend then? And correct me if I'm wrong but having played at full back the whole game is in front of you so if you can read the game then your laughing, playing on the wing you can miss players getting behind you e.g not tracking your runner!

Ports

Agree0 Disagree0

Why move a great winger to full back?

Agree0 Disagree0

Because this great winger could have limited opportunities with Nani and Young playing the way they are and Valencia attackin from full back would give us even more attacking opportunities without losing anything defensively due to his pace and fitness!

i hope berba and owen start today

Believable12 Unbelievable2

I'm desperate for berbatov to do well tonight, would love to see some of the magic we witnessed when he put 5 goals passed blackburn rovers!

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

Owen I know for sure is starting against Leeds tonight, not sure about Berbatov though. I wouldn't be surprised to see Macheda partnering Owen up front tonight and then Berbatov coming on later in the game.

Pogba I believe is starting tonight... Alot of hype around this player. Could be interesting to see what this lads made of!

Really excited about the game tonight, didn't know that chris smalling suffered a groin injury and is out for up to 2 weeks?! Apparently antonio valencia is filling in at right back! Seen him play there before and he absolutely bossed it, such a strong-take-no-bullsh!t player! Also i cannot wait to see paul pogba in the middle i reckon will be started alongside giggsy. We'll see, none the less it should be great.

i think we all agree a striker will be coming in next summer so whats everyone's opinion? Who are the contenders?

Believable8 Unbelievable9

I don't agree, we may bring in a striker, but it will be a young exciting talent rather than the finished article. Welbeck, Hernandez & Rooney are good strikers and if we added another senior striker to that list, rotation will be a problem. I think we will buy an attacking midfielder with goals in them. I also think we will bring in a player like Iturbe, E.Torres or Morata. Someone who doesn't mind sitting on the bench waiting for their opportunity. The problem with getting an established player is that we will have to find a way to keep all four strikers happy. I see Diouf, Berbatov, Macheda & Owen all leaving by next summer. So Keane, Cofie & perhaps one of E.Torres, Morata or Iturbe will come in IMO.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought a deal was in place to sign e. torres from chivas already? next season though?

Agree0 Disagree0

What about this iturbe at Porto

Agree0 Disagree0

Cavani or e.torres

Agree0 Disagree0

I dont agree either. Not exactly a position we are lacking in is it? Rooney, Hernandez, Berba, Diouf, Owen, Wellbeck. 3 of those have either had no or very little playtime this year. Its midfield we need to strengthen as we have needed to for last 3 years. Not saying we wont bring one in though
Woffsta

Agree0 Disagree0

With Berbatov, Rooney, Hernandez, Welbeck, Owen in great form + Macheda, Diouf, Keane - We dont really need a striker. If we do get anyone it will be a youth player, i.e. Iturbe or Torres etc

Good news that Hernandez only has bad bruising, could have been much worse. He will be out for up to two weeks, but I think he will be back way before two weeks. Surely it's just a case of swelling needing to come down?

Sydney!

Believable6 Unbelievable2

Hernandez is due back at training on Wednesday, so I would imagine that he will be back in less then 2 weeks. It will all depend on it goes for him in training, and what sort of team SAF wants to play against Stoke. Berba's size and ability to hold up play might be a better choice against a physical Stoke side on Saturday. Champions League next week might be a more realistic target for Hernandez?

Sydney, any news on Welbeck?

RedDub

Agree0 Disagree0

Not really sure fergie would prefer berba. It took Hernandez to unlock the stoke defense last season

Agree0 Disagree0

Hernandez back in training wednesday, hopefully ready for Stoke. great news

Was great to see Wellbeck back on the pitch tonight too, what a bonus!

And the cherry on top - Owen looking sharp again! personally i believe he could still score goals in the Prem, alongside either Rooney or Berba when Chicha/Rooney are rested, for instance.

But he will find it tricky to get any action ahead of Berba/Wellbeck, of course. shame IMO

Whichever way you look at it, having 5 forwards scoring in the first 8 games of the season bodes v v well for the season ahead ;)
