Come January and end of season SAF will clear out a raft of our 6/10(the best score they'll ever get) midfielders.Cleverley safe, Pogba will be secured under contract and main target will be sweinsteiger 40 million euro plus

Believable5 Unbelievable42

Wishful thinking with Sweinsteiger, he will not leave Bayern, he is what Scholes was to Man Utd, he will be there until he retires unfortunately ... HERBIE

i am from Southport (where Rodwell is from). My auntie knows Rodwell's mum and a couple of years ago apperently he got a call off SAF or whoever deals with the transfers. Apperently utd wanted him in a few years later (more game time at Everton).
Im not saying he agreed.

Believable4 Unbelievable26

Even with the use of my scientific calculator, i had trouble working out what you were saying. I mean c'mon, if you actually came from somewhere in England you'd speak clearer english that that.. i hope.

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

Thought it was fairly clear myself and supports what the ed has said in the past about sneaky meetings

Agree0 Disagree0

I also found the post pretty straightforward, and I do believe Sir Alex has made contact with Rodwell in the past. However, I don't believe that he will be bought due to the large asking price for English players, especially now that he's a full international.

Ruudinthemood

Agree0 Disagree0

I know Jack Rodwell's best mate, who used to play for everton academy but my mate didnt get offered a contract when he turned 16/17. I can tell you 1000000% and i have posted this on here before. That United ARE interested in Rodwell and our planning a bid. I can even tell you when Rodwell was planning to buy a new car (audi), Mike Phelan said when your at United lad you will be looking at Austin Martin's not Audi's.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rodwell was one of several 16/17 year olds scouted by United. Like several before him he looked very good at that age but, Everton were asking silly money, for potential not proven ability. Most youngsters simply do not make the grade for United and some fall off the radar completely. Personally I think Rodwell has had an excellent start to the season and looks to be fulfulling his early potential. Still a long way for the lad to go but if he continues to improve I can see SAF coming back in for him.

Eds, do you think Mario Goetze is likely to join United in the near future? Would love to see him at OT, he has great vision and creativity, and has an eye for goal too!

#ags 19 {Ed004's Note - I think he will be a runner for Ball d'or in the future he is that good, hopefully we see him here as I do not see any rivals bar chelsea needing a midfielder atm}

Believable16 Unbelievable8

At the end of the day though Ed, any big team will want to have a go at snapping up the best upcoming talent, no matter what position (unless it's a GK). It seems to be the way teams such as Real, Barca, Chelsea and City work these days. Not only are you constantly featuring the best talent in the world, but you're stopping other teams from having a certain player who could become one of the best in the world. It doesn't sound nice, and it's ugly to see but with the money involved this day in age.. they just think, why not?

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

City will go for him just to piss us off ed. madrid also want him.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think it will take 40+ million euros (around £34m+) it's a question of whether we are prepared to pay that amount om him!

Florentino Perez will now turn his attention to capturing Wayne Rooney by working with coach Jose Mourinho to try and convince United to sell their star man next year. Mourinho is a long-term admirer of the England striker and Perez is said to desire Rooney more than Neymar due to the marketability of the player and his ‘pull’ in the Asian market. It’s clear United would not want to sell their prized-asset but if the Premiership champions are to have an unsuccessful season the door to a possible transfer could open with Real knowing they would have to make a similar bid to the £80m that prised Cristiano Ronaldo away from Old Trafford in 2009
this has been reported in the spanish press hope its not true but i could see madrid having a go for rooney whether he would leave is a different matter
jred

Believable5 Unbelievable24

How much are you getting paid for writing such crap?
If Rooney was to go, he would have gone when he sai he wanted to go!!
How do you know United wont win anything this year?
Rooney is staying !!

Agree0 Disagree0

Let them have him, straight swap for Ronaldo though

Agree0 Disagree0

Mr no name
i didn't write it its straight out of one of the spanish newspapers.
now im sure the spanish press is just as unreliable as ours but perez does like to sign a galatico each year and mourinho is a rooney fan and madrid have been after a striker for 2 years .
i think real TRYING to sign him this summer could be on the cards.
jred {Ed004's Note - Hopefully they go for someone like Tevez then and not Rooney, also wonder if Benzema or Higuain would be available for purchase. Both would be amazing in the Man Utd system tbh}

Agree0 Disagree0

I've wondered about this, i mean i believe that Rooney will remain a red devil for the rest of his career. But i think that could also hinge on when SAF retires and who is brought in to replace him. I reckon real madrid will have a bash at signing Rooney, but unless we get a serious amount of money offered we just wont sell. Remember when Ronaldo left, he actually wanted the transfer himself and we still managed to get £80 mil. Whereas with Rooney (who you can tell has a lot of love for mufc), i doubt it'll happen.

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed004
yer tevez would probably be an easier transfer for them.
benzema seems to of found his feet now and mourinho has been speaking highly of him but it seems that maybe higuain's face doesnt fit quite as much , could he be the latest big name player allowed to leave madrid.
jred {Ed004's Note - He would be an amazing signing, he is better than Benzema and probably the best finisher in the world..}

Agree0 Disagree0

Rooney has love for Man Utd? Hmm.
This isn't a Disney movie. Rooney will go if he feels like going (one day). He loves Everton and he left them for the sake of his career. Believing he'd stay outta loyalty or love for the club is absurd.
If he wants a new challenge or a fresh start then he'll say 'bye-bye'.
I hope it never happens because he's the only player at the club that's truly special IMO.

M.D.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why wouldn't Rooney leave? Fergie lied to him when he said we would bring in some big name players. Lets not be school kids about this lads, we are in real trouble and falling behind rapidly. This is the weakest squad we have ever had and we have no creative players. When did Rooney last score in the league? City's second team is better than our first and buying one or 2 players is not going to fix that. Not that any of that matters because our manager is so arrogant that he thinks those players are good enough. Watching my beloved team is now like watching paint dry thanks to our manager and lets not just blame the glazers. Fergie could have bought many players for good money eg Van Der Vart for 7m but no Bebe for 7m was a better deal. We also could have sold some of the dross in our squad to make money but no they are still there eg Carrick, Anderson, Gibson, Berbatov, Evans. For god sake we sold O Shea and Brown who were talented versatile players. So lets not be so F###ing stupid to think that our remaing few decent players wont leave too, and how could you blame them! Im gutted, absolutley gutted and so angry with our manager. So before all fergies love children give me a hard time can I just pray that I am wrong. And I wont hide my name.

Stephen

Agree0 Disagree0

Stephen that is the biggest load of sh*t I have ever read!

G.A.G.U.S

Agree0 Disagree0

Stephen do you ever actually watch the beautiful game. Or is your head so firmly plugged up your backside that everything has gone dark.
Mik

Agree0 Disagree0

So G.A.G.U.S and Mik are you both going to tell me that everything is going to be ok and we are going to pick up number 20 and that city are not now better than us? I have been at nearly every home game for the last 15 years guys so dont try to make out that I am not entitled to an opinion. This is the worst team I have watched in those 15 years and there will be nobody brought in to improve it. Are you guys telling me that I am wrong about VDV and that Bebe was worth the spend instead? With all due respect lads take your heads out of the clouds and understand the concerns the real fans have. I always feared the day Liverpool might catch us. Never thought it would be city though. This mess needs sorting and quick. Fergie owes the fans who pay his wages at least that. We are still Manchester United, we can still attract good players but we have to actually contact them in order to sign them.

Stephen

Agree0 Disagree0

Stephen, I kinda agree in a sense, yes this is possibly the worse United team in the last 15 years BUT, in the past 15 years United have been by far the most superior team in the PL, other teams have finally caught us up (now here's the important bit) but not taken over YET. Chelsea with there billions failed to, City with there billions may well do, time will tell. G.A.G.U.S and Mik may not tell you everythings gonna be allright but I will. WE WILL BE ALLRIGHT IN THE END, HAVE FAITH.... HERBIE

Agree0 Disagree0

Stephen

I agree with most of your points but dont have a go at fergie. The vast majority of the success we have had has been down to him. I dont agree with every move he makes and have been bitterly disappointed by transfer movements recently but Fergie is the greatest manager ever in my eyes and lest not forget we got to the champs league final 3 times in 4 years (semi in other) and won the premier league umpteen times over the past decade. Yes I agree we are weak at the moment but Fergie will sort this.
Woffsta

Agree0 Disagree0

Lads, having a go at fergie is not something I get any pleasure out of believe me. Another dismal display last night with no penetration from the middle or the wings. We are now very easy to defend against as other teams know we have nobody capable of getting through. Thought Berbatov did well last night considering the lack of game time he has had but surely Hernandez has to start in an important game like that. Leaving your best players out of important home games is very arrogant and can only be backed up by a win. I don't know how we are going to break down the top seeds in the next stage.....thats if we get there of course!

Agree0 Disagree0

Everybody needs to calm down, fergies building a new team n it takes time, wev got 5 new players to intergrate into to the team (de gea, young, jones, wellbeck, cleverly) i no wellbeck n cleverly have been here a while but this is their first year in the first team. we're not playing great but we're still in there n city wont be able to maintain their good form all season. my main concern is the mounting injuries n why WE seem to get so many

i heard pogba is been frozen out until he signs a new contract, if not then he has a choice of arsenal or psg in january

Believable3 Unbelievable24

He is under contract until June 2013 so won't be going anywhere in January.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah but if hes been frozen out would it not make more sense to let him go asap because he wont sign a new contract ??

Agree0 Disagree0

From what I hear it's just the usual 'run of the mill' contract negotiation. He wants a new contract and we want him to sign a new contract, it's about the three parties agreeing a deal, obviously the agent or agents want as much cash as possible, Pogba will want a pay rise and probably assurances that he will play a little more often and United will want to pay him as little as possible. It's the run of the mill contract negotiation. I just hope it's settled soon because I believe we will see a lot more of him. I believe the frozen out bit is very true. I don't believe he will play a EPL game until he has signed on the dotted line.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

So does his contract run out in 2012 or 2013 i thought he only signed a 3 year contract
jred {Ed007's Note - I'm getting 2012.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Is his contract not up in 7 months? db

Agree0 Disagree0

He joined in june 2009 and edd 002 said as he was under 18 he could only sign a 3 year contract so that would mean he is out of contract this summer unless somebody knows different
jred

Agree0 Disagree0

'Ed007'

Transfer market has only confirmed it as being 2012 in the past week, so it seems they are jumping on the newspaper stories. When I checked transfer market a couple of weeks ago it was 'undisclosed'. I wouldn't be surprised if they have changed it because of what they are reading in the papers?

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd, have you got confirmation of the end of contract date, or is it just based on fergies statement earlier in the season when he said we had a couple of years to play him??

If this statement was wrong and his contract does end in the summer and therefore he can talk to people in JAN then I hope that this "cat and Mouse" game will not lead to him leaving.

I expect to see him against Palace as do you.....

We will have to wait until then and hope that he puts in a brilliant performance and the crowd cheer his name.... he will sign the following morning then.....

oxred

Agree0 Disagree0

'Ed002'

Have you had any info back yet on the length of Pogba's contract? SAF & folk around Carrington believe it's 2013, the Daily Mirror & Mail believe it's 2012 and like jred has said if he signed in October 2009 and he was under 18, he must have signed a 3 year deal meaning his contract is up in 2012? It's not just puzzling us, it's puzzling everyone, can you find out for us Ed?

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - I will try again Syd. If Pogba signed in October 2009, if he was under 18 then and if he has not renewed his contract the it will expire in 2012 by the nature of the rules. However, as he was under 18 at the time it does not follow that the June 30 deadline applies (it doesn't) and it certainly does not follow that any club can speak to the player in January. I have already explained about the approaches made to two French clubs by an "associate" and I have explained that I doubt that he is getting the best advice at this time. The only new thought that was suggested is that there might be proposal made to Manchester United where consideration may be given to a contract extension if a loan could be arranged. I suspect that the powers that be at Old Trafford will not be keen on any efforts to bully them over this matter. Our records show a date of June 30, 2013 for contract expiry but it cannot be relied upon as being accurate for kids.}

Agree0 Disagree0

'Ed002'

So are you saying it could be June 2012, but clubs will not be allowed to talk to him in January, like the tabloids are suggesting?

Thanks Ed.

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - No, that is not what I said. I said that the June 30 rule does not apply.}

Agree0 Disagree0

'Ed002'

What is the June 30th rule?

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - All contracts end on June 30 - disregarding exceptions.}

Agree0 Disagree0

'Ed002'

So you believe he could be an exception due to the confusion with his expiration date? Very confusing I must say. Ed can you keep us updated on the Pogba situation? Thanks.

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - No, I did not say that either. Are you feeling OK? You appear to be confusing yourself again Syd. You can take it from me that he is an exception to the June 30 rule. I will try and keep you up-to-date - unless I think the information will confuse you. I will be going back on the road in a few days so, like last week, things may be quieter. Perhaps some time for self-contemplation?}

Agree0 Disagree0

'Ed002'

I just don't understand what you mean by being an exception of the June 30th rule and speaking to clubs in January. What does him being an exception to the rule mean for us?

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - It means that his contract may not run out on June 30 and he may not be able to speak to clubs in January. You are worrying way too much about trivia again. At some point he will either sign a new deal or leave.}

Agree0 Disagree0

'Ed002'

Thanks mate, will bug you again in a few days time ;)

Sydney! {Ed007's Note - I'll pass that on Syd, I'm sure she can't wait.}

Agree0 Disagree0

He has 18 months left on his contract so is not going anywhere soon. stop falling for journalistic mischief

If united wants to sign a striker,then who should be the contender.!

I do believe, Owen, Berbatov will be sold either in Jan or in August.
Also Macheda and Diouf are not fully developed as relying Strikers.

We have to depend on Rooney, Chicha, and Welbeck.

So there could be a chance that a striker will be bought, it will be around 12 - 14M though.

question is who.?

Lil Jacob

Believable3 Unbelievable12

If a Striker is brought in I have a feeling it will be ricky van wolfswinkel ... it's been rumored that SAF is very interested in him and it's no secret that he's being watched by top clubs... I honestly dunno if he's good enough or if he'll suit us ... I just have that feeling we'll bring him in because he's young and in good form

JOE

Agree0 Disagree0

Go back to playing Championship Manager and dont be boring us with your hypothetical scenarios

Agree0 Disagree0

Its possible but I would be gutted if we signed a striker ahead of a CM. I would be gutted if we signed any positions ahead of the gaping hole that has existed in the centre of our park for a while now. Ive been saying it since we lost to Barca in final in 09 we need CMs. Since then how many have we bought excluding youths? None. In fact I think the last one not to go into the youth team we bought was Hargreaves in 2007 while buying players all over the rest of the park including strikers Berbatov, Owen and Chica and actually I think Diouf as well. Sorry rant over!

Woffsta

Agree0 Disagree0

We don't need a forward we need a midfielder or two!

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't understand how any of this conjecture can be anything but hyperthetical.

Agree0 Disagree0

Berbatov is going to sign a contract extension, so no new striker is needed

Agree0 Disagree0

What about Walters from Stoke

Agree0 Disagree0

I think SAF wants to put rooney as more of a CAM position and berbatov will more than likely go soon if no in january so maybe there could be a ST position that needs filling
