I've not seen much of Bayern Leverkusen, could someone fill me in on the capabilities of Lars Bender? Is he good on the ball?

Fresh!

Believable16 Unbelievable0

He's a more attacking version of his brother Sven. Good on the ball and very disciplined and intelligent. Can also fill in at the right wing.

Mick

Agree0 Disagree0

But Seven Bender is a better footballer overall.

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

Lars Bender is better than Sven imo.... He is better technically and versatile.

Agree0 Disagree0

Actually Lars is the more talented one of the two, Sven is a very good player but is limited. He hasn't got the ability to move forward and play a more attacking game. He is excellent as a shield and then he plays short passes to more talented passers who play the ball forward. Lars is also a great DM but has the passing ability to play a more active role in playing the ball forward.

Shappy

Agree0 Disagree0

Have to disagree there ozwald, Sven is more of an anchorman just to sit infront of the defence and mark there main midfield threat, whereas Lars can do the anchorman role quite well but he is also very accomplished in the box2box midfield role and can easily fill in at right back Lars is more of an all round player.

Agree0 Disagree0

Better overall? No chance, my borther in law is a Leverkusen fan, so I follow them quite bit as well as the Bundesliga in general and Lars will become 3 times the player of Sven. Sven is very limited as to what he can do, and doesn't posess nearly the same technical ability as Lars. You ain't got a clue Ozwald, or you'll just taking a stab in the dark.... and got it wrong :)

There seems to have been a spike in interest in Wanyama from fans on here since his goal against Barca.

My main issue with him is he is young and very raw still and needs refining.

If we are to sign a young DM then the only player i'd like to see sign is Ezequiel Cirigliano.

No one does the classic "No 5" like the Argentines, it is they're most valued shirt and position in Argentina. And Cirigliano looks like he is the next great Argentine No 5.

He has a maturity beyond his years, nothing phases him. He just goes about his game and plays to the high standard he sets himself.

He has excellent reading of the game which allows him to stiff out danger and nip it in the bud before it becomes a problem. He is a great tackler who relishes the physical side of the job when needed, yet he isn't a blunt tool crashing about the pitch but instead a highly cultured player whom can use his vision and ability to read the game to start off attacks and control the tempo if holding onto a lead.

For me he ticks all the boxes and is young and would come at a very reasonable price.

I would much rather sign him than Wanyama who although a good player will never be as good as Cirigliano could be.

Shappy

Believable25 Unbelievable7

He looks like a very talented player, but imo we need a defensive midfielder who could come in and do a job straight away. We cant be counting on an inexperienced youngster playing in Argentina. It would be great if we got him along with another midfielder, like Vidal, bender ( any of the 2), Jordan Rode, Roman Neustader, or if we dont have the funds Lucas Biglia or Claudio Yacob.

Mick

Agree1 Disagree2

I am holding out and hoping for Lars Bender he is a very good player.

Agree0 Disagree0

I too would prefer someone who could come in and do a job straight away, I was merely poinying out if we were to go for a youngster then Cirigliano is a better bet than Wanyama.

Since you mentioned him before i've had a look at Sebastian Rode, he does look a very good player. I've also spoken to a couple of friends from Germany and they say he is a great player. So I think he could well be worth a look at.

Shappy

Agree0 Disagree0

Are you his agent Shappy? :). Good write up though.

Kuala

Agree0 Disagree0

Cirigliano s a brilliant talent but not sure if he is available and would think he would cost quite a bit. Ed002 do we have any interest in him and who else is looking at him.

Shahram {Ed002's Note - Manchester United, Manchester City and Genoa enquired after Ezequiel Cirigliano last season. Juventus and Inter Milan have enquired this season. But Napoli have sustained interest and are continuing to push to complete a transfer after it nearly happening in the summer. They seem a likely destination right now.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Does anyone still believe that Wanyama is 21? {Ed007's Note - His entire family are known for their sporting achievements. His father Noah Wanyama was a footballer for AFC Leopards in the 1980s and as well as his brother McDonald Mariga (on loan at Parma from Inter Milan) his other brothers Thomas and Sylvester Wanyama play for Kenyan Premier League sides Sofapaka and club Sony Sugar plus his sister Mercy is a professional basketball player in Kenya. There is no more a question over his age than there is with any other player.}

most of us seem to be in agrement that we need a cb to replace rio my personal pick would be sergio ramos hes currently having backroom problems with board at madrid and i also think a spanish cb would help develope ddg. i feel it would improve his comunication with the defence and settle him at the club more and ramos has the quality and credentials of a utd player hes a winner to his name he has a europen cup medal world cup medal la liga title and coppa del ray and has massive amouts of talent and pace along with tons of big game expirenece i also like sakho of psg but its verry unlikly we would ever bid for him so a surprise move for pique might catch people of gaurd as barca strugling for cash to freshen up there squad any thoughts or other players anyone recomends or rate as a good replacment. ??

jwberry

Believable8 Unbelievable11

Well with Smalling Vidic Evans and Jones at the club already and with Keane and Blackett coming through the youth ranks is there any need to sign a CB at all? I'd rather us spend any money we do have on a LB CM and a flare player to inject some imagination/spark.

Shappy

Agree1 Disagree0

Has to be Hummels. Enough said.

Fresh!

Agree1 Disagree0

Agreed fresh.......wouldn't touch Ramos with a barge pole...not near strong enough for the PL

Agree1 Disagree1

I've a feeling Vidic may go in the summer to Anzhi. With Ferdinand also past it and Jones seemingly prefered in mf then we need another CB. Hummels would be perfect, he is already better than Ramos IMO and more exciting to watch. He could also be deployed at the base of a diamond.

Dan

Agree0 Disagree1

Hummels does not have the pace of Ramos and very tough to say who is better.

Shahram {Ed004's Note - Hummels is quick enough though}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed004 I agree but very different players. Ramos tends to go forward and join the attack where Hummels sits in the back four and does what a centre back is suppose to do. To me Hummels is lot more like Vidic at his peak and Ramos more like Ferdinand at his peak.

People say Ramos is reckless and to some extend it is because of his ventures forward. Rafael is similar and can sometimes get caught out of position because he likes to go forward. Either would be great for us.

Shahram

Agree0 Disagree0

Personaly think ramos is better than hummles hes been consistant alot more years but what would you think of bringing pique back as i agree with shahram vidic may be sold and rio may retire/be sold. ??

Ed002; catching up on your posts from yesterday in regards to Guardiola and people from inside the club wanting him to take over from Fergie.

Have you any idea if the end of the season is a possibility or are we looking at further down the line.

Thanks for the info in regards to Strootman by the way.

rpc {Ed002's Note - I suspect there is no decision at this time.}

Believable7 Unbelievable1

Hi Eds, when fergie does retire how many do you think may be on the list to replace him? Also do you think Mourinho will be on that list? Also do you think we might purchase a midfielder in Jan?

Cheers Damian M {Ed002's Note - Manchester United has already spent considerable effort in trying to figure out a way forward. I have explained the two candidates who remain at the fore. I do not know if others will come in to contention by the time SAF decides he is to leave his post and forces the matter.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ronaldo + Mourinho = GGMU (EPL & CL dominance for years to come)

Agree0 Disagree0

Jurgon klopp should also be looked at we have to look at how good his team has been playing with what he has available.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we need someone who appreciates the history & philosophy of Manchester United.......can't imagine gladioli lasting fergies years........wouldn't want mourinho anyway near the place........moyes is showing very well at present.......u may think I'm mad but ole Gunnar is really showing great promise......don't forget guardiola hadn't managed anyone other than barca b before he took the reigns at barca...........

Agree0 Disagree1

Could someone fill me in on the two people ED002 is referring to - Guardiola and who else?

Tom {Ed002's Note - Blanc Tom. Why is it so difficult to use the search function? We may as well remove it.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks Eds for the reply but mourinho not on the list seems strange is it because he is not liked with the powers that be(I know Bobby Charlton is not a fan). It also seems strange Blanc is on that list would not think he would know the history and philosophy of Utd as he was only there a while.

Cheers Damian M {Ed002's Note - What "list" is this? I cannot understand your rationale that Mourinho (who has had nothing to do with the club) not being on the "list" bothering you; yet Blanc (who played for the club) should not because of his lack of knowledge of the "history and philosophy" of the club.}

Blackpool supporter, heard a whisper that Ince will be on his way to Utd and loaned back to Blackpool. Also talk of Kyle Walker wanting a move to Utd and there's apparently been some interest.

Believable10 Unbelievable9

Rafael is better than Walker so therefor he will not be joining us.

Ince may be a possibility.

-JakeW

Agree2 Disagree0

In my opinion I dnt kno which 1 is better walker or rafa, but let's say rafa is the best still does no harm to bring in walker to push rafa (and vice versa)so we dont end up with the evra situation again where he has been in his comfort zone for a while.

Agree0 Disagree2

The ince romour is verry likely if we do bid and get the transfer don he would probly stay at blackpool until end of the season.

jwberry

Agree1 Disagree1

Ince yes, walker cant see it, right back isnt a position we need to strengthen, left back centre mid and wing would surely come first
Will Red

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks guys. Was just passing on what I had heard. If Incey goes anywhere then I hope it is to United, at least know he will get treated correctly and not sit and rot and waste his talent, he'd improve and get his chance. Anywhere else and these so called ''big clubs'' would waste him and he'd end up back at a championship team in 4/5 years a shadow of the player he could be

Ed, what is the situation with the availability of Douglas Costa? He's always been a player that SAF has admired and he is left footed which is what we are looking for - any thoughts on this?

Fresh! {Ed002's Note - Manchester United, Chelsea, Rubin Kazan, Napoli, Arsenal, Manchester City and no doubt many others have been interested in the player in the past 18 months. He was being hawked around Italy and and Portugal by Cesar Bottega over the summer and Napoli expressed an interest. There were some talks but no offer was made. Shaktar's approach to valuing players is not dissimilar to Porto's approach. If he moves in the January window it will be to Naples.}

Believable5 Unbelievable0

Thanks Ed. Seems as though we can probably cross him off of the list!

Fresh! {Ed002's Note - Things can always change.}

Ed002, with AC Milan interested in both Eriksen and Strootman and both players looking like leaving Holland in the summer, who do you believe is AC's first choice out of the two? Who do you think they will push for hardest? Thanks.

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - It will likely be driven by interest from other clubs in players - if a noteworthy Spanish club pushes for Eriksen that will likely be more attractive to the player.}

Believable0 Unbelievable1

I think that Eriksen may go to somewhere like Atletico if they sell Falcao? And then I think Strootman will come to us (if we make an early enough move).

Fresh! {Ed002's Note - There has been no interest from Atletico and they will need a striker if Falcao moves and their funds will not stretch too far.}

Agree1 Disagree0

If Alonso leaves then I think RM will go for him. If Alonso signs a new deal then I think AC will get him and Strootman will possibly end up at OT.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree2

We don't need Erikson we have Powell. Just as talented IMO and (hopefully) he wont jump to Spain the first time barca or real come sniffing.

Ed's, whats happened to all the Hector Herrera rumours? Are we still interested?

Fresh! {Ed002's Note - There is and never has been anything beyond speculation as far as I can tell.}

Believable1 Unbelievable1

I see. I was under the impression that talks had taken place, but due to his inury during the transfer window we were waiting until January.

Really positive news yesterday with the news about Strootman hopefully signing in the summer if we can add a w/c CB and either Isco or more likely Rodriguez that would b the perfect summer!And fingers crossed that a deal has been struck for Guadiola to take over from SAF because as great has he has been the time has come for change plus I would hate to see him go to Chelski as I believe Mourinho will be at city next year !
CardiffRED {Ed002's Note - There is no deal for Guardiola.}

Believable0 Unbelievable11

Dont think pep to man utd is likely as chelsea will go for him at end of season and failing in europe could be a nail in manccini coffin esspecialy if he dosn't win a trophy for city and they will be the 2 to fight it out for him think jose would be more likely of the 2 managers but its widley know saf rates david moyes verry highly..

jwberry

Agree0 Disagree0

I like David Moyes but if Chelski end up with Guardiola and City end up with Mourinho and we get Moyes then that will not b good and what kind of message will that send out?
CardiffRED

Agree0 Disagree0

CardiffRED. No good talking like that. Fergie has already said there are only Guardiola and Mourinho that he would recommends for the job.

We don't like to pay big bucks if we can help but when it matters we do our best to match the City's and Chelsea's. Lets just hope that "Manchester United" are enough to attract one of them and I'm sure we are. I would much prefer Guardiola as he suits our club betters

Agree0 Disagree0

Guardiola has only coached at Barca and Barca are a complete system unto themselves. Though he is undoubtedly a talented coach, it will be interseting to see how well he does in England or Italy, where he appears to be heading. I doubt either Pep or Mourinho will be coming to OT.Just can't see the Glazers backing Mourinho to the tune of 100 -200m euros, which he would peobably want. As for Pep he;ll be at Chelski and his enormous reported 15m per year, that 300,000 per week. We just don't have the financies to match City, Chelsea,PSG and some Russian clubs over these two. I think it will be a straight fight between Blank and Moyes the season after next. Moyes may not be as exotic, or as urbane as the Iberian twosome, but he has worked wonders at Everton on a shoestring budget. As a romantic, I'd love to see Ole, with Giggsy as his no 2, but I guess it's too early in Ole's career. If Moyes does come, I hope he brings Fellani with him.I have never heard SAF say" only Pep or Mourinho can do the OT job", though he has flattered them and it's clear he like Mourinho. He does have great respect for Moyes though and has often spoke highly of him.
Mik

Agree0 Disagree0

Cardiff red - Where and when did SAF say" only Pep or Mourinho could do the OT job? Please send the link. He has often spoke highly of Moyes and Blanc, but to my knowledge has never publicly stated his prefered successor.

Eds, is it true that man united and psv have agreed a pre contract for kevin strootman for january? {Ed002's Note - No. Manchester United and Liverpool took a look at Kevin Strootman last season but tentative enquiries were met by a reluctance to sell so soon after arriving. His performances have attracted further interest from Manchester United, Valencia, AC Milan, Schalke 04 and Hamburg. I expect him to move to Manchester United or Milan in the summer. January is a possibility but there is no "pre-contract".}

Believable3 Unbelievable2

Hopefully he comes in, but given the way that we 'move' when it comes to midfielders, he'll go to Milan.

Fresh!

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with fresh.. we'll probably just sign another 6 strikers!

Jamal

Not seen much of either but would prefer Wanyama out of these 2. Can only go off what people say on here really but there have been a lot of negative comments on here about Strootman

If there is any Eds around with knowledge of Alen Halilovic can you please tell me if you rate him as highly as everyone is stating in the press... 16 and worth £7million apparently so if this is true would we be interested...... Thanks {Ed002's Note - See previous answers.}

22 Nov 2012 03:45:05
Apologies forgot to ask do any of the ed's know if we are still interested in Allen halilovic of dynamo Zagreb?he is possible the best in the world for his age and would light up old Trafford for years to come,I'd be very disappointed if we missed out on him.thanks ed's {Ed002's Note - Dinamo Zagreb's Halilovic is attracting the attention of many of Europe's leading side including Real Madrid (who have had an offer turned down), Juventus, Ajax, Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal. A move to England in the short term is unlikely due to his age but at some point Manchester City will look to strike a deal.

Hey ed002 just a few questions if you don't mind answering if you get the time.strootman seems like will happen in the summer as will a cb.(hopefully hummels).who seems more likely to arrive between Zaha and ince?i get the feeling that one of them will arrive in January and maybe Isco/Rodriguez in the summer?thanks and great work as always on the site {Ed002's Note - I really cannot easily answer questions about "who is more likely" to join. I have explained where there is interest.}
