The papers are so disgustingly lazy at this time of the year...Laughed at the recent article linking Arsenal with Marco Reus, claiming Arses Wenger is 'all over it'. This of course is the same Marco Reus who is due to re-join Dortmund for 18million euros in around 6 days!!

Stuey

Believable12 Unbelievable4

Its not that hes marco reus is going to join dortmund he has already and mario gotze played a big part in the deal after reus and gotze went on holiday to dubai before euros which saw reus pick dortmund over bayern {Ed002's Note - The deal for Reus was made in January.}

Ed what do you think the chances are of us signing a young centre back, we have bid for Varane and Nastasic and now there is interest in Okore and possibly Papadopolous. So do you think we may try to sign one. It seems as though we are in the market for one...

RedDevil19 {Ed004's Note - We could be in for one. It would make sense}

Believable7 Unbelievable11

Isn't that what Smalling, Jones, and Evans are for? Can't get much younger than 21,19, and 23.

Sparty On

Agree0 Disagree0

How is vaselli sp the chap from city anyone know if he is anygood?

Pardoe

Agree0 Disagree0

Evans is 25

Agree0 Disagree0

Utd have 5 first team centre backs. Why would money be spent in this area when players are so urgently needed in other positions?

Andrew B

Agree0 Disagree0

Evans was 24 in Jan

Agree0 Disagree0

Clearly not a following united fan fergie sorted cb two yrs ago smalling bring evans through and spending big on jones! comom man sort urself out! {Ed004's Note - And yet he bid for Varane...}

Agree0 Disagree0

Think Jones will be used more as a defensive midfielder by Fergie if he thinks there's no value for money out there, so he might see the need to for cover

Agree0 Disagree0

Would be a complete waste of money, we already have Vidic, Rio, Jones, Evans, Smalling

if ed 002 is around can u please answer
1) why united is not linked with move for clyne? in jan we are about to sign him and now when local window is open , we hear no news? is it possible that earlier we were looking for 2nd choice RB and now we are looking for 1st choice?
2) whats latest on mateo kovakic ? its reported that SAF was willing to pay 10m for him, and now when he is free agent, we listen no news abt pre- contract..

waiting for your views.. thanks
rodio17 {Ed002's Note - (1) There is certainly still interest in Clyne. (2) There is nothing to really to be said about Kovacic at this time - but I would not hold your breath about a move to Manchester United.}

Believable1 Unbelievable7

And can we say that arrival of powell is replacement for ravel morison in some way? and it also means kovakic is not required now?
rodio17

Agree0 Disagree0

Cheers for your time ed 002, than what do you think is holding united's interest in clyne to be deal and done?
rodio17 {Ed002's Note - The kid has plenty of time to see what offers are made. The window opens next week.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Clynes english,our windows been open for weeks,jeez.
oz {Ed004's Note - But when does his contract end? Pretty sure it will be 1st of July}

Agree0 Disagree0

I am with ed04..

contract will end on 30th June... lets see what happens in the first week of july.

A few stories going around today that Levy will only sell Modric to Madrid if spurs get sahin in return. If this is the case, I can see 2 outcomes, one bad and one good.
The bad outcome would be for Madrid to agree, so utd would get none of the two.
The good outcome would be if Madrid refused, in which case we could swoop for modric.
NWDA

Believable5 Unbelievable16

Think Modric deal is dead.
Uncle Fergus has played 4 won 2 at the moment as 'first targets' Hazard and Modric both ducked. Kagawa and Powell will be great buys though I'm sure.

Halesini

Agree0 Disagree0

Id prefer sahin......all the time!

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Sahin may become a target if he is offered to Spurs for Modric. I think Sahin would prefer a move to OT over Spurs.

Sydney! {Ed004's Note - Sahin is a good player but is he quick enough to play in a fast fluid team and is he strong enough to cope with the demands of the premiership weekly. There is no doubting his passing abilities..}

Any news on bebe or macheda getting sold to most useless players for us

Believable21 Unbelievable8

25 Jun 2012 16:57:15
Some dissapointing information I got today which I am not to pleased about as these would not be my ideal choices.

No striker will be bought this summer, Sir Alex really believes Federico Macheda has a real chance of making at the top level with Man Utd and this season will be his make or break season.

Other news is that a deal has been struck with Everton for the signing of Leighton Baines, the deal will be worth around £10 million initially with £5million being paid in installments. The reason why the deal was not completed before the Euros was because united wanted to pay an initial £5million with £10 million in installments.

'News' would suggest fact?

Are they fact or just rumour?

I've been thinking about this Baines thing and i've started to come round to the thinking behind it.

Initially competition for Evra, give Evra more rest as he's getting older. BUT Baines isn't so young that it blocks younger left backs like Fabio or the reserves/ accadamy players.

Red Joe

Agree0 Disagree0

Where did you get this info from i doubt its true

Agree0 Disagree0

TBH I wouldn't be too dissapointed with this

No striker - if we change to 4231 with Kagawa behind Rooney (and Powell as cover for Kagawa) then we effectively have 5 strikers including Wellbeck and Hernandez. Macheda could be 6th choice

Baines - many have slated his talents but honestly I'm not that convinced about the other names banded about e.g. Willems (looks very raw), Alba (can he defend?), Cissokho (why are his club trying to sell him for less than they bought him?). My main problem with Baines was price, 10-15m is at least better than some of the prices quoted for him. He is solid enough in defence IMO and will add a lot to our team with his wicked crosses and freekick-taking abilities. Sure he is ONLY 2nd choice for England but that's irrelevant as A Cole is probably the best in the world and starts every game, deservedly

Like I said I wouldn't be too unhappy with the above but that's SO LONG AS we bring in a quality CM'er. My preference is Modric, but would be happy with either Cabaye or Sahin as 2 examples

A summer of - Kagawa, top CM'er, Powell, Baines & Clyne would be a very successful one IMO

Gav

Agree0 Disagree0

Hope this is false macheda is useless not sure who is worse him or bebe and for getting a good young lb like alba it should make the reserve lbs get better fighting there place with a good lb imo

Agree0 Disagree0

Gav

Trust me, Alba can defend. He's been immense for Valencia this season.. A very talented player, i'm sure we would have enquired about him but heard of his desire to move to Barca then went no further.

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

We have Rooney, Wellbeck, Hernandez, Macheda and soon Henriquez, can't see us buying another striker with all that youth coming through. Personally I am more excited about these guys developing than bringing in someone else.

I still think we could do with another midfielder though, Modric would have been perfect and a few of the other names mentioned seem to be (according to the press), unavailable. "Who" is the question.

Baines seems a little to old to be honest and I think that Everton would be holding out for a little more than 10 million for him, so i don't see it happening.

Nip

Agree0 Disagree0

I rate baines so would be happy with that, macheda I still feel he has something about him!

Del boy!

Agree0 Disagree0

Nothing new mate, i have said this a month back that macheda is staying..

rodio17

Agree0 Disagree0

Alba is rubbish! Has been the weak link so far for Spain and is lucky he has the best midfield in the world infront of him keeping him from getting exposed.

Baines would be a good signing for exactly what Red Joe said: we can rest Evra and slowly move him out, with a good replacement who wont block Blackett the long term left back.

Agree0 Disagree0

It is false, United are listening for offers for Kiko. We have been for the past few windows. I cannot imagine we will go for Baines, but if we do then I feel Evra will be sold.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Sensible sounding post.

I thought links to Lewandowski most notably were just paper talk and have posted previously that I didnt think we would shell out on another striker given Kagawa and Powell give further attacking impetus (though accepting they are not per se strikers).

I thought Baines would have been signed before Euros as there was talk on here that a deal had been agreed in principle when we sold Darron Gibson to The Toffees and that made a lot of sense.

There is clearly still some cash around one hopes for a midfielder given we have had a bid rejected for Modric.

Personally I think Modric has already made his mind up he wants Madrid and if thats the case we should be looking at Cabaye at Newcastle.

Kagawa, Baines and Cabaye to fill 3 first team slots with Powell and Henriquez (if the Chilean forward is still enroute) would be decent business.

I have no sources as such just my gut feel and that tells me that Nani out and Rodriguez from Porto in makes a whole lotta sense and net spend-wise wouldn't be too big a burden. So no doubt that now I've penned that Nani will sign a new deal!

I can't see Fergie making more than 3 first-team changes though. Buying kids for the future is a different ballgame.

Halesini

Agree0 Disagree0

Have no idea with regards to a striker, or Kiko staying etc... However Leighton Baines will be signing for United. Although I have been told the initial fee is £12 million.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ozwald - I will take your word on ALba as I haven't watched him closely enough to judge definitively. But seeing as most ppl think he's off to Barca I stand by my originl post as I can't think of many LB's who we could get will come in and do a better job than Baines. Not an exciting player, but could be both solid in defence and attack for us (compared with Evra recently)

Gav

Agree0 Disagree0

Macheda is not a United or Premiership quality player, this story is bogus

Agree0 Disagree0

Hope we flog Machada for anything we can get. I would have thought in the 2 -4 million bracket. He'll never make it at united unless someone makes him bionic limbs and a faster chip for brain replacement.
Mik

Agree0 Disagree0

Baines has probably been the best LB in the premiership this season, some would argue last season as well.

Also, as some have pointed out, he shouldn't be a huge block on the progress of the youngsters.

With Fabio going out on loan, I think we can be confident in expecting Evra to get a new understudy, as we have options at right back, but if Evra gets injured, we don't really have any viable backup.

Nick Powell of to Swansea on loan for the season

Believable20 Unbelievable41

Can't see that happening. I think SAF will blood him 20 or so games in the first team this season.

Apparently Kagawa was offered the No. 7 shirt and turned it down because he wants to make a name for himself at United. I can tell he will become my favourite United player over next season or two.

Another rumour flying about today. Apparently we are lining up a £4m bid for aimar! As if Fergie would consider a 33 year old unless he was free. The press must be running low on players if that's the best they can come up with

RR

Believable12 Unbelievable35

I can't see this happening myself, but don't forget Roma paid something like around £30m for Batistuta when he was 30 years old and it worked wonders for them.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah but batistuta had cannons in his boots and a great ability to be in the right place at the right time. Aimar was never world class and 3 years older. What a barny comparison

Agree0 Disagree0

Just so you know Benfica wont sell Aimar to Utd and I believe Utd wont sign a 33 year old player he is very good player, Aimar already said he wants to finish his career in Argentina ... red devils forever n13raj

Agree0 Disagree0

If u ask me 4m is decent considering he is still a decent cam who could probs play a few more seasons

Agree0 Disagree0

It's not a comparison, it's a basic point that age doesn't matter when comes to players so long as they still have it. i suppose your going to say Pirlo isn't all that either? only moved to Juventus who then of course went on to win.

Hope we go for Alba! hes young and has been impressive in the euros, if we could beat barca to him that would be a great buy, with the player being young i believe fergie would have no problems with the asking price! also i cant see modric coming in now? it would be to good to be true if we got him aswel?! James Rodriguez in, nani out?

Believable24 Unbelievable21

I think Alba would be a great buy, and so would Rodriguez but we need that ball winner like Strootman or Sahin.
Based on all the rumours realistically I think our signings will be:
Alba/Baines
Strootman

Agree0 Disagree0

Strootman ain't really a ball winner . He's more like carrick than a keane ! Think you spend too much time believing some of the dodgy posts ! SANDY !

Agree0 Disagree0

Carrick and Strootman are ball winners. The game has moved on from 50/50 challenges, it's about staying on your feet and intercepting passes, winning headers and distributing the ball well when you get it. I would take a Martinez or Strootman over a Mascherano or De Jong any day.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

How people, so called fans, can still want Nani to leave are crazy. Ashley Young was absolute pants in the Euros. Even in a poor England side, with no one other than Hart playing up to club standard, Young still stood out by his impotence. Two crosses in 4 games, 2 reasonable dribbles and no assists, no goals and a missed penalty of course. On the other hand Nani has looked class! A stream of good crosses, comfortable on the ball he was excellent. Average score per game for Young 4, for Nani 7.5. We really don't need to spend 25 million+ on Rodriguez, we need to spend on two midfielders. M'vila or Tiote, with Martin or Dembale would cost us 30m. So with 20m coming from sales and 15m spent on Kagawa and Powell a net spend of 25m. maybe we could afford a left back too

Does Dortmunds capture of julian scheiber mean Lewandowski is heading towards the exit? Are we involved at all and if he arrives (or another striker) does this mean a deeper role for Rooney? say alongide Kagawa?

Stuey {Ed002's Note - Dortmund also lost Barrios - so there is no hidden message in the purchase of Scheiber. Lewandowski may well leave still.}
