Just seen this on BBC website, if its true this would be a massive blow!

'Manchester United fear key defender Chris Smalling could be out for three months with glandular fever.'

Hope this isn't true, if it is I wish him a very speedy recovery.

RedManDan

Believable11 Unbelievable40

Yup,..its true

SO now we need,
One CB, one LB, one midfielder.
I m sure we will sign atleast 2 in this window.

Agree0 Disagree0

It isn't true. SAF says he'll be fit in a week.

Pip

Agree0 Disagree0

"Chris Smalling has got tonsillitis," confirmed Sir Alex. "I know there are reports about glandular fever but they're off the mark."

source, MUFC official site

Veni, Vidi, Vidic...

UTD fan from Serbia!

Agree0 Disagree0

This story is from the Daily Fail,he's actually got tonsilitis and should be available for the Newcastle game , so lets not panic just yet.

Agree0 Disagree0

SAF has rubbished reports that Smalling faces a long spell out. That is according to SSN. We will know more within the hour.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Fergy has said its only tonsillitis
jred

Agree0 Disagree0

True or not, we still need to purchase defensive back up, 3 years on the trot we've had a defensive crisis where Tony V and Carrick have had to play in defence.

Should never have released John O'Shea.

Ricky T

Agree1 Disagree0

We didn't release O'Shea, we sold him for £5m and for a 30 year old that has started to pick-up numerous injuries it was a good bit of business.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

I think you know I didn't mean 'release' in that term Sydney, or do you always assume people are stupid. I disagree with your point, £5m is nothing for a reliable PL defender, whether he was starting to pick up the odd injury or not. £5m that will only be lining the Glazer back pockets.

Modric to sign in summer....Rio going other way as make weight. UTD will step aside and Spurs sign Rasmus Elm. And here's the biggy.....Chris Samba to join in January...£4m

Believable12 Unbelievable45

It was going ok until Samba joined in January

Wes Sneider is coming to United for 30 million as Sir Alex doesn't feel there's enough creativity in midfeild

Source Sky sports iPhone app

Believable19 Unbelievable12

Italian newspapers reporting he will be made available for £25 mill
jred

Agree0 Disagree0

Something smells.

Percy

Agree0 Disagree0

ED plz ban guys posting rumours about SNEIJDER..... really fed up of this....

Agree2 Disagree0

Wesley will not be coming alex was giving 50m plus sales last summer which went on degea young and jones im hearing money was put aside for wesley if we could work out wages wesley was asking too much other teams got interested in jones so the money went on him

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Dec 2011 13:52:49
I would love to see modric come to united but did he not say he only wanted to go to Chelsea
also if as reported united agreed to pay inter 30/35 mill in the summer you could argue sneijder is/was fergys first choice , it would of been a lot of money to pay for a player if he wasn't his first choice
jred

Believable11 Unbelievable17

Well first n foremost modric isn't worth 35/40 million.hes overrated.he is a good player but not a great.i would be delighted if chelsea payed over the odds for him,coz the way i see it is he's just another yossi benyoune but sneijder on the other hand is a world class player.he would be perfect.and I hope he's utds first choice.Hes the type of player you pay the money for!

Super red

Agree0 Disagree0

I still think that Wes is the only guy who's vision and passing range is as good as scholes was!

Ozwald

Agree1 Disagree0

Wes is nothing like Scholes. He is more like VDV in the sense he is a SS.

Agree0 Disagree0

Super red that is easily the worst comment i've evern seen on these boards, another benayoun, not been watching fottball for long i take it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Enough of the Sneijder rumours! Who wants someone who's been out almost all season and might not adjust to our league?

Percy

Agree0 Disagree0

You may think its the worst comment but it's the truth, modric wouldn't get his Game for Chelsea, nor man city, barca or real Madrid, inter,I could go on n on.he is inconsistent, doesn't score many goals,He's good in fits n starts but he is no top dog he is not a world class player!and I watch, play, coach football day in day out my friend.

Super red

Agree0 Disagree1

I have to say this i think Super red is the 1st person i know that doesnt rate Modric! I watch the Serie A on ESPN and what i have seen on Wes (as he has been injured alot) its that before he was injured he doesnt work hard enough. On the other hand i watch Modric every week and that guy is great on the ball, fair enough he doesnt score enough goals its not like scholes did in his last 3-4 years. We want someone to control the play and be energetic in midfield and always give 100% if you dont think Modric is worth 30+ million you must be crazy.

Oh and he wouldnt get into barcelonas team as its the team of the century but would get in Madrids team and certainly Chelseas and man uniteds (ahead on Xabi Alonso, Kheidra, Ramires, Meireles, Carrick, Fletcher)

Does anyone have an insight into the situation re Elm at AZ Alkmaar ?

Pip {Ed002's Note - As we stand right now there has been no deal with anyone for Rasmus Elm, although Spurs have been making a significant push and Manchester United have shown interest.}

Believable6 Unbelievable10

The guardian are reprting interest from SAF

Just a quick word on the current transfer situation re. United. I have been told the only two possible Jan transfers are moves for Sneijder and (surprisingly) Torres. Ferguson thinks he can reunite the Spaniard with his best form, as he believes class is permanent. The deal would equate to 20m. As for Sneijder, Inter are willing to sell for 30m - however, his contract is still being worked on. Expect these to be announced before the Arsenal game - both the players might even feature in the game!
Therefore Line Up for rest of season:
---------------De Gea--------------
Smalling---Jones-------Ferdinand---Evra
Nani----Sneijder------Carrick/Cleverley-----Young
------------------Rooney------------------
------------------Torres------------------
Good times to be a red!

Believable40 Unbelievable66

Highly unlikely... im sure ed002 would have some info on torres if he was a target for united {Ed002's Note - Don't drag me in to this.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I dont believe TORRES will come,..atleast not while Berbatov is here.
Sneijder might be possible, well, but the thing is whether SAF still wants him, when everything was going well in the summer with his transfer, even the fee was agreed between the 2 clubs, it was sneijder demands that caused the disturbance to the deal.

Now i think united will go after Modric,if they want someone in the midfield with that type of characteristics, and so SAF said,...if the player becomes available we will go after him or else the transfer window for united will be quiet.

MD_11

Agree0 Disagree0

Modric has said in the press this morning that he will stay at spurs till june at least then see what happens. I think SAF will forget about Sneijder and go all out for Modric in the summer. Torres? Id take a punt on him at 20m, he's still young enough to come back into form and imagine him scoring a winner for us infront of the kop!

Agree0 Disagree0

Interesting, i read somewhere yesterday about SAF talking about whether a player would be eligible to play in the Europa league after being in the Champions league if a Jan transfer would be made, i'm sure it was related to WS. Ed, do you know if players are eligible for Europa league even if they've played in the CL?

Ozwald {Ed002's Note - It is a touch more complicated than a simple yes or no. A club in the Europa League can identify one player only on February 1 who has previously played in the Champions League if the team he played for is not in the same competition. This means Wesley Sneijder or John Terry could be that player.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I think SAF might surprise everyone with Sneijder and Torres.

Agree0 Disagree0

Still on the xmas spirits then

Agree0 Disagree0

Would love see sneijder come; and think he is the most likely onethat we will get!

Agree0 Disagree0

I think this is a bit far fetched to b honest, sneijder maybe, but I can't see fergie signing Torres, although he has surprised me with some dodgy signings in the past.

Agree0 Disagree0

Are you all real?

Sneijder had his chance and certainly we wont be held to his ransom again.

And Torres? Really?

The poster couldnt even be arsed to state a source or himself as the poster.

Theres lazy journalism and there is idiots like this one. Posting utter sh1t based on absolutely nothing.

RedDevil92

Agree0 Disagree0

Did anyone see Laurent Blanc, Henrik Larsson or Micheal Owen coming?

Agree0 Disagree0

The current squad needs experience. SAF will buy that through Sneijder and Torres.

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't believe any of this pap.

Agree0 Disagree0

Shut your jibber jabber fool

Agree0 Disagree0

Do you really think SAF is going to drop an in-form Javier Hernandez for an out-of-form Fernando Torres?

I don't think so.

Agree0 Disagree0

Welbeck is far better than torres!!...and ws had his chance and blown it !

Agree0 Disagree0

For the person who says "shut your jibber jabber fool" - this rumour might actually be right - turn on sky sports news now...

Agree0 Disagree0

Cant believe theirs 19 mugs at current who actually believe this rumour

Agree0 Disagree0

Trust me guys, there is NO WAY Torres would even consider United. Despite everything he is still loves Liverpool + the supporters would treat him the same way that Michael Owen is treated....he is now despised by most LFC fans for turning his back on LFC ( even though Owen personally missed out on a Champions League medal !)

Agree0 Disagree0

If WS come's.. Fine
if torres come's.. We will be the laughing stock in the whole country..
Seriously! Guys Fergie is old but not senile

Agree0 Disagree0

It is idiots like this that ruin this website

Agree0 Disagree0

What's been the best bit of Owens career? Utd? So Torres cud have same!

Agree0 Disagree0

We can all guess at who may or not sign but i woudnt totally rule out utd in for Torres as its fergie,he does what others dont expect&is a known fan of his&will believe he can make him fire again, there pos more chance of Torres than Sniejder if is true its was player demands stopped the deal in the summer then no way will he ever be at united&dont ever think players wont play for certain clubs!Alan Smith says it all!lol myself yes i would love united do something like it get 2 big players in,would send a few tremours over at the council house

Agree0 Disagree0

Swap de gea for lindegard!

Agree0 Disagree0

Torres is a pile of fish !

Wesley sneijder to man united in january.

just been informed by a good mate that utd are keeping close tabs on yann mvila same situation as phil jones dont want to move now but if there hand is forced and suprisingly has heard no mention of an attacking mid {Ed002's Note - Inter, Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City, Juventus, Genoa and perhaps Liverpool & Chelsea showed an interest or enquired about M'Vila this past summer. M'Vila will almost certainly not move until the summer. A very significant bid from Manchester City has already been turned down. With that offer that was made for M'Vila in the summer Rennes have upped their valuation of the player to an extent where Creachcadec has said no Italian team can aford M'Vila. I would expect that there may be interest in him from PSG, Barcelona and possibly Real Madrid by the time he comes up for sale in the summer. I would be astonished if M'Vila moved in January, but his agent is telling clubs that there is a clause in his contract that can invoke a release for a single 20M euro payment to Rennes and then he is looking to negotiate a signing on fee as well.}

vidic agent confirms he will be out for 12 month
jred

Believable12 Unbelievable16

His agent hasn't said anything of the sort.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

LOL sun says he has said he wants to be playing in August

Pardoe

Agree0 Disagree0

Vidic is expected to have surgery later this week and could be out for up to a year after rupturing three major ligaments in his right knee. It has raised concerns that he may struggle to return to his best at the age of 30, but the Serb’s agent Silvana Martina insisted: "The first forecasts say it can last for a year, but it is meaningless to talk about the end of his career. It’s a serious injury but club doctors assure us that the recovery will run smoothly and he will be back on the field. It will take time to get back into the old rhythm, but there is no doubt that Vidic will be his old self again. Nemanja is feeling good. He will be back next year stronger and better."
jred

Agree0 Disagree0

Precisely, there is no confirmation from his agent that he will be out for 12 months.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

May I add that his agent doesn't agree with the first forecasts that he will be out for a year. He believes he will be out for 5/6 months. I think that maybe a little too optimistic myself, but perhaps ready for next season which is 8/9 months away? We will know more after he has had surgery. It can be up to 12 months, but it could also be six months so fingers crossed jred mate.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd
from what info i can find the club doctors are taliking 12 month the only person who is talking 6 month is his agent and im not sure how qualified he is.
i hope he is back in 5/6 month but his snapped 3 ligaments 1 of which i believe is his cruciate i think 5/6 month is very optimistic i woud be surprised if his even ready to start jogging in that time scale
jred

Agree0 Disagree0

No one has said he will be out for 12 months, all people have said is that he could be out for up to 12 months. He has ruptured his cruciate, usually that is a nine month injury, but we will see mate. If we can have him back for August/September time I will be happy.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Theres no need to replace evra! he is a great left back! Next is clichy and cole in the prem! now... cole is slipping up in chelsea defence, it is brutal and clichy wasnt great with arsenal and gibbs isnt either! to rplace evra with abidal is a joke, evra is better and if barca are selling him it is 4 a reason! united arent a cast away club! we want the best
