so we didnt get sneidjar :) who cares we dont need a prima dona like him anyway, utd are built on players who want to play football for them, he would not fit in at OT

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Just because he dint sign for us hes a prima Dona now ? common man .. that guy is a great player

Agree0 Disagree0

Prima donna? Dont think so mate. He even thanked Utd fans for supporting him through the transfer window! Prima Donnas dont do that!

Agree0 Disagree0

Yep I agree Sneijder not joining doesnt make him a prima dona. My personal thoughts are he wanted the move.

Agree0 Disagree0

Do the words "grapes"and "sour" come to mind?

Agree0 Disagree0

Primadonna,ya clown, hes a magnificent player, hes anything but in fact dats wat makes him so good, hes a team player knows the game inside out!and yur sayin we dnt need him?ya wnt b sayin that when were in trouble against european opposition....we r a weaker midfield than we were last yr!gibson, kushak n berba shuda went for good money,at least we wuda had more to spend!all of our 19 title success and nothing, not a penny to show for it,lets face it we cnt buy top players anymore,we have to take time to groom them!I'm f***in sick!wave the green n yellow....glazers out!

super

Agree0 Disagree0

Hypocrit.. For months we have heard that all we need is WS. And we would be better than barca if we got him, NOW suddenly a whole other tone

Agree0 Disagree0

Jesus Christ calm down, I love how you think we didn't have any money to spend, maybe just maybe it was down to ferguson having faith in his squad right now?! Our midfield is actually a lot stronger than last season so shut up and go an support city if money is all your interested in!

Agree0 Disagree0

Here we go, same old bullsh*t - we didn't get the player so therefore we never wanted him to begin with - so childish, grow up.

I agree with the 'superstar' being a disruption but when you see the likes of Miralem Pjanic - young, promising midfielders - move clubs for less than £10million, its proof that for a small fee we could've added depth and competition to our midfield.

What a letdown.

I would assume that United have now ended all interest in Sneijder. If we do not want him when he is 27, then we will want him even less when he is 28 (unless of course we can get him for a significantly reduced transfer fee - unlikely knowing his present employers).
Mario Gotze should be our next big midfield target for January or summer 2012.
Mike B

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Mike B

I'd love to agree with you but it's not gonna happen, I've resigned myself to us never buying the proven replacement for Scholesy. Goetze, by next summer, will be worth £40m or more and we've now shown that we cannot meet those sort of valuations.

I think, if we are struggling in the middle by Xmas, we MIGHT bring in a stop-gap signing in the January window and by that I mean either a loan or an experienced veteran for a small fee.

But I agree about Sneijder, he'll never play at OT now. Do I think Pogba could make a difference? Absolutely. Do I think we'll see much of him this season? Absolutely not.

RED_SKY

Agree0 Disagree0

Mario Goetze would be a great signing no doubt. But I feel we need a CM who can not only attack but defend too. 8-2 was flatering scoreline but if u go i detial u could see how much possession we had and how much arsenal had. We will need some one like a DeRossi rather than a Goetze against likes of Barca and Rmad

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2011 23:04:50
Wot a disappointing transfer window where was a maquee signing ? Ed do fink we will go big in Jan transfer market? {Ed036's Note - No.}

Believable0 Unbelievable2

Got to admit im dissapointed we didnt land Sneijder. dont get me wrong the kids will do great things im sure but i will be surprised if we are in the CL final this year.

Agree0 Disagree0

Changes are required, either we don't want to or simply cant attract the top players to old trafford. ferguson said we would strengthen the team in the summer to close the gap on Barca. If any of the "in SAF we trust" brigade feel they can argue our signings v Barca signings have closed the gap please argue away. ferguson & gill have lied to the fans. take your money and hang your heads in shame, sold out!

Agree0 Disagree0

YES it is and fergie is putting a lot of faith in cleverly & pogba if he thinks that they can bridge the gap between us and barca.

The only positive is that we have started so well in the PL and by the time we meet barca (if we do) it will be after the Jan market so we still have time to buy in Ganso, M'Vila or maybe even Modric (all would be able to play in cl) if fergie thought these players were needed then.

This would also make the club more attractive for the singapore market as we still have money in the bank.......

TIME will tell but for now come on lads...... bring home number 20

oxred

Agree0 Disagree0

Jeez, again with the obsession with the Cash Cup.

The League is the priority and we are plenty strong enough for that. The Champions League is a bonus.

I wish more of you armchair lot would p*** off. Who cares about the Cash Cup.

Agree0 Disagree0

So you're saying that you'd prefer to be champions of england(still a great achievement) over the likes of the small club and chelski or champions of euope over fantatstic teams like barca and RM?

Agree0 Disagree0

Without the "cash cup" United wouldn't even be a skid mark on the back of top European clubs, not in terms of support, wealth or quality players.

Baring that in mind I think you'll find a lot of people care about the "cash cup", one in particular to mention, Sir Matt Busby.

Taff

Agree0 Disagree0

Were riding high at the moment but not all games are going to be as easy as the last 2 and dont forgot we won but looked average against wba.it was obvious to anyone who watches utd regulary that last season we needed a creative midfielder and still we havnt addressed that position.dont get me wrong im really impressed with the new lads but midfield should of been our priority.cleverley could turn out to be a future star i hope he does but lets not get carried away with someone who,s played 3 first team games. other than rooney we have no one that can hit a 60yd pass to someones feet and tom cannot play every game.that leaves us with carrick who cant even get on the bench, giggs who will only play bit parts in this his last season and fletcher who,s been missing for months.andersons had a great start but on previous seasons performances doesnt maintain his form ,i hope he proves me wrong.last season even though we won the pl was some of the worst football ive seen at ot in 39 years as a season ticket holder but we wont get away with it this year s-itty,chelsea,and the scousers have massively strengthened and will be our main threat.people keep going on about the youngsters like pogba but none of them will have a big part in this season simply because there not ready for the big step up and will be introduced gradually.
johndenton

Agree0 Disagree0

I am a little disappointed we haven't bought in a quality and experienced CM. I'm sure SAF/Gill would have wanted one more in but if a deal couldn't be reached it means SAF is happy to go with the current squad. Surely he would have paid an extra £3-4m if he felt we ABSOLUTELY NEEDED Sneijder?

Regarding the Cash Cup, of course we are obsessed, our history demands it. We probably won't have the all-round game to beat Barcelona but in all honesty would Sneijder alone bridge the gap?

Perhaps growing a new young team is the answer. I for one am happy to run with it, they're certainly talented enough to retain the Premiership.

Stockie

Agree0 Disagree0

Just trust saf,we'll b fine let him build our team,i think anderson will shine injury free,we now hav energy in the cm which we didnt have against barca, ashley young looks outstanding and the spirit in the team is amazing, dont panic lets see how it unfolds b4 we all start crying, things could b worse we coulb b arsenal fans

Agree0 Disagree0

Man utd is and has always been a club that wants to win everything..it's never been about financial tactics rather it's been about having the most invincible team in the world. Thanx to these American slime balls ...we've lost so many good players...last team was wen ronaldo was still at old Trafford after that we've been goin dwn hill...even man sh**** luk a better team than us....it's painful to say but it's true...hope things change soon it's either the glazes go or we soon become the team the whole world feared once again...I think they shud get new billionaire owners ....

Agree0 Disagree0

Everyone just sit back and hope that cleverly and anderson stays fit and on-form! and definately hope rooney isnt injured bcuz this is all we will have for the long foreseeable future. we have no money we cannot spend and there will be no-signings of note next year either? this is the future we have under the glazers! but hey we can all rejoice in utd about to announce record profits bliss!!

Agree0 Disagree0

Some of you guys must be comfortable with the fact that Liverpool have more european cups than us. So how can anyone say it is not important. On a side note, SAF promised Rooney world class signings. Young is good but not world class yet, Jones and De Gea are kids with potential. Sounds like Rooney got lied to like the rest of us.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yet again all ppl on here can do is complain - we spend nearly £60 million in the window and still you complain. Let Fergie pick the players he wants - trust me he is far better at it than any of you, if we dont get them then it is not always due to a lack of finance or ambition or the Glazers fault. We have been the most consistent club over the past two decades and there is a reason why - no big time Charlies, no mercenaries, a wage structure that doesnt alienate other players, a atmosphere that ensures the majority of players want to stay at the club and a manager and CEO who know how to run a club.

Agree0 Disagree0

To the guy who refererred to the "Cash Cup" above. Dont be a twonk all your life; the Champions League is one of our biggest revenue streams and without it we would not even have been able to afford Jones/De Gea/Young. Is that what you would have wanted? Yes I too would much prefer to win the League to the CL (as it is our bread and butter), but if we don't progress in Europe on a regular basis we will end up much weaker and with less "cash" than we are now! So stop beig a twonk and get to understand how football works........without success in CL we dont have the funds to do well in the League each year!!

Agree0 Disagree0

To the guy who saud we have spent 60mn. Mate if u see how much we have cut down on wages with sale and retirements and them compare them to signings u will know it is Glazers fault or not.

Ed, is it possible that WS has already passed his medical and signed contract earlier in the transfer period. Deal could be announced last thing prior to deadline? Hence no communications today.

Tonythered {Ed036's Note - It is a possibility, but given the latest indications from Sneijder himself, his wife, his agent, the Inter president, Sir Alex, David Gill and the SkyPad... Oh, and there's the small question of what the point of it all would be...}

It just makes Sense that we will not buy a midfielder in this transfer window. they dont need anyone until the second half of the transfer window and the end of the group stages of the champions league..So therefore our main target is of course Paulo Henrique Ganso, and i believe a deal is in place to sign him in january for £24.8 million pounds and £4.6 million in add ons over the 5 year contract..

you heard it hear first from johnrooney..

Things can still change for teams as there is time, but as it stands the majority of Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea & Liverpool fans aren't overjoyed about the end of this transfer window. Most Liverpool fans like us hoped for a marquee signing, Chelsea fans expected a few marquee signings and Arsenal fans expected better signings than two defenders and a Korean forward. Spurs fans would be happy to keep Modric, but even they expected a couple of big signings, someone like Rossi or Diarra.

Like I said there is still time for things to change, but it isn't just us that are disappointed.

Sydney!

P.S - You can never rule out Harry making a last minute shock.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

In fergie we trust Sydney! ..this start is a false one, we should have strengthen, I blame fergie either for not being honest or simply stubborn

Agree0 Disagree0

Kaka deal close for spurs... Harrys at it again lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Sydney

I dont see why the fact other clubs are not happy should be of any comfort for us. I appreciate your attempt to take the edge of the disappointment in relation to a major signing which has (so far) been lacking in this window but no matter what you say it is not good enough.
Actually should Liverpool get Bellamy I doubt their fans will be too unhappy.
However as has been stated over and over we lost key players and we all including many of our own backroom staff identified the need for a major midfield signing.
I cant see anything now but there is still 2 hours to go for the Glazers to redeem themselves

However, in 2 hours what has been said about the Glazers by RFT and others, myself included could potentially come true and you need to take off those rather rose tinted spectacles if nothing happens.

Red Man

Agree0 Disagree0

I think it's SAF being stubborn too.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

'Red Man'

I do not believe we have not brought in a CM'r due to lack of funds. Like I have said over and over, if we were short on funds, why did we buy Jones & De Gea and not keep Brown & have Kuszczak as our number one? I think this is down to SAF being too stubborn over wages. I also think he enjoys winding up a minority of cynics like yourself. He enjoys proving people wrong.

Also, who are these key players that we have lost? Don't tell me Scholes who started 17 games for us last season and didn't play in any of the big games. Scholes hasn't needed replacing for years, he said that himself.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Sydney

We spent a net £40-£45M and part of which was a goalkeeper that we had to buy. You yourself have said countless times the £80M Ronaldo money plus more is available. Now you say it is SAF who is "stubborn"!!

SAF actually said himself recently about having to solve the Scholes problem. Regardless of that we are looking like going into a season with a central midfield which is not going to frighten the major clubs, leaves us vulnerable in the league and gives us almost no chance against the two Spanish giants. All through this the manager seeming to take no action. It should certainly help the club make a profit improvement shouldnt it?

I expect to hear plenty of comments saying that any signing would have blocked our wonderful youth. Well I hope the youth are successful but they miss the point now because it will become an issue in March onwards. It is this years "no value" manipulation of the fans.

It may take us finishing 3rd or getting knocked out early to knocked the stubborness out of either Glazer or SAF.

Answer me a question Sydney, who do you think is benefitting the most from improving the profit by not spending the money?

Red Man

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd Scholes played in 32 games in total last year, 7 in European run out of 13. 22 in the league including starts v Man City H&A, Liverpool H&A and Chelsea A so he did play a fair few games and a fair % of the big ones. SAF always trusted his ball retention in these tough close games.

Jono

Agree0 Disagree0

'Jono'

Scholes started just 16 PL games last season, he was played in all of the easy CL, FA & League cup games. He only started against Liverpool due to injuries to half of our squad. Scholes was a bit-part player last season, he said that himself. I am gutted that we never signed a central midfielder, but I don't put it down to lack of funds.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

'Red Man'

I know the Glazers only bought United to make themselves richer, I know the Glazers only care about lining their own pockets. I know they see United as a cash cow and I am not defending them. But I genuinely believe there is money there for SAF if he wants it. I think he has had his targets and they have all come to nothing. Ed002 did say that TWO British clubs in the past 48 hours have submitted bids for Ganso, not sure if the other club is us, still waiting on his reply.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

He played in City Semi, H&A League v City + Liverpool, H v Marseille (which we had to win) A to Chelsea. I wouldn't say these were easy ones although I agree he was a bit part player just the bit he was used for were a fair few of the important ones and tricky away games. As I said his ball retention cannot be duplicated in our current crop. Something we will miss imo.

No value in the market mate, it was obvious what would happen. Not buying a world class cm will end up being a mistake. It is either fergie being stubborn or no more likely the glazes. The pursuit of Wesley Sneijder is officially over as Inter Milan's president has said on skysport24 "It is a victory having kept Wesley Sneijder. He is a very important player for the team"

Fergie offered transfer money to buy proven quality but also advised that a healthy balance sheet prior to IPO in Singapore would favourably increase his future share options providing Club proceeds to second stage of CL.
The substantial reduction in wage bill achieved already with retirements, loan deals and players sold have achieved the aim.
The main aim is not to win the CL but to succesfully float the IPO. Fergie and Gill appear to have other incentives than winning silverware.
Barcelona are even stronger now with Sanchez and Fabregas we are even further away from winning the CL now.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

GLAZERS OUT if they were not in charge sneijder i believe would have signed 3 weeks ago

UNITEDFORLIFE

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope you are wrong with the first part, but totally agree with the Barca comment.

Agree0 Disagree0

The money from winning the champions league would balance the books!
Wouldn't see any other top clubs putting the books first.
If we don't buy ws it's a huge mistake and only chance we've got of getting close to barca. Surely fergie would want to that than balance the bloody books?

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes something isn,t quite right is it. One of two things for me ;
1. Fergie has been promised a huge pot of money after the float for transfers, though can't see anything happen to the summer.

2. Fergies goodbye date has to be getting closer, solely because of age alone. I still have a hunch that this could be his last season hence why we have seen this major clear out and are now left with a young squad which would be much easier for a new manager to handle.

Would they let Fergie spend mega millions if there was a chance he would leave in the next two years or so ?

The Glazers definitely appear to have a master plan and feel it is based more around money and profit as today has shown. The talk of the Singapore float will no doubt soon gather momentum and we,ll get a clearer indication of what the future holds.

Agree0 Disagree0

This midfield of uniteds wasnt good enough last season in champs league against barca, they have strengthened an already strong midfield, whilst ours has a young untried in the champions league player in cleverly, feel this lack of a centre midfield signing will affect our chances of winning the champions league

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said,I think the jury is out now,wnt hava chance in CL,and certainly will struggle away from hme in PL!Im actualy sick of it all now!

Agree0 Disagree0

Great post mate. disappointed in the lack of transfer activity 'big summer' pfft 3 signings..

Agree0 Disagree0

I guess all your Xboxes must have broken as I have never heard such a bunch of childish drivel in my life.
Firstly the reduction in wages is negligible as the older players were all on low basics and pay as you play deals. The loan players are not big earners , so that should shoot you down on that point.
Share prices are not as fickle as to be based on the balance sheet. They are normally based on a multiple of profits before tax and interest, but in the case of United would be based on brand and goodwill to a large extent. So that should shut you up on that point.
The main aim as the board knows and encourages is to win as much as possible as without success in competitions the club does not earn valuable ticket and tv income. Of course top level management have incentives based on a number of criteria, but I can assure you that even the Glazers are not that stupid that they don't understand that, success on the pitch=more income.
You may be right about the Barcelona bit, but take a look at yourself, do you really think that buying WS or any other single player would suddenly turn us into a Barcelona beating team? SImple answer is no, because on our day we can beat them. Support your team, leave FIFA and Championship manager alone and try to understand football. Nuff Said!

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope we don't get to the CL final again cause to lose 3 in a row would be embarrassing and I'm sorry but I can't see any other outcome. Let's not forget the last time we had a great crop of kids they were not good enough for the Cl for a number of years. (99)

Agree0 Disagree0

I made the point of barca being stronger earlier in this thread, and just been thinking, we lost 8 players from last seasons squad, VDS,G.Nev,O'Shea,Brown,Scholes,Hargreaves,Obertan,Bebe
and Replaced them with 5 new players, De Gea,Jones,Young and the return of Welbeck and Cleverly, surely in terms of numbers are squad needs a couple more?
burnaldo7

Agree0 Disagree0

Evening all,
We are NOT signing Sneijder. However, we WILL hijack Chelsea's bid for Frank Ribery, paying 38m for him - what a steal for us considering his buy out clause was 88m! The player and his agent will put pen to paper in the next few hours - wait and see!
With Ribery, we will finally become a world class team!
UNITED FOREVER

Believable1 Unbelievable4

What a pathetic rumour. We wouldn't even thinking of going for him. Young, Nani, Park and Valencia

Agree0 Disagree0

Wat a load of crapppp. why the helll would we pay 38m for a 28 year old? and neways hes worth a lot less than that. 15m at most.

Agree0 Disagree0

Leave what,,,and why and where...german FA has put list of transferable player list and he is not there so this rumouris just dead.. find before u put rubbis..

Agree0 Disagree0

Ribery will not join United or Chelsea for that matter. This rumour was on the back page of the sun... one of the most unreliable sources for football rumours and that's fact.

Ribery still has 4 years left on his current contract at Bayern Munich and he is close to £180,000 a week playing for them. If SAF could match that wage packet then Wesley Sneijder would've signed for us before this season started.

Another reason we won't sign Ribery is the fact that he is a left midfielder... who is our current left midfielder? Ashley Young. SAF paid £20 million for Young and he is having a great season so far so why bring in another left midfielder?? we already have nani, valencia, giggs and park that can play on the wide positions.

Agree0 Disagree0

"Finally become a world class team," are you some kind of muppet ? Three CL finals in the last four only beaten by a fantastic Barca side! You already are watching another wonderful SAF built team

Agree0 Disagree0

Not a hope in hell why would we want him, Young is a as good as him any day, he's over-rated and over priced!

Getting slightly more pesimistic as the day goes on but you guys have got to remember that everything that is said publically today is said for a reason! like that coincidental spotting at the gym? a fellow professional athlete would not go and talk publically about another like that without permission. I'm jus remaining hopeful that all this is being said to stop other clubs trying to come in last minute, dont take anything you read today at face value!

I think it's fair to say Sky Sports News have been a little sneaky today. They know they can keep a few thousand more people tuned in if they dish out a few little white lies here and there. At around 11 o'clock this morning, they had this to say, "Exciting news for Manchester United fans! We will bring you the news as soon as we get it". 4 hours later and nothing to report. It's quite funny really.

Matthew... {Ed007's Note - I think the exciting news was that WS odds of leaving Inter had been cut. Pathetic attempt to make money through their bookmaker.}

I dont know why everyone is so surprised. They pull this EVERY transfer window. Usually using United to their own gain.

All this cloak and dagger stuff is just made up anyway. I said ages ago that Utd wouldn't sign anyone and was hammered by all and sundry. Wesley wouldn't make United much better and he really should considering the cost of him. Rightly so, Utd are waiting for the new breed of youngsters to come thru. With Fergie at the helm United will at the very least challenge for the premiership with a youth team. Really they want to dominate Europe tho and Barca are in the way. Barca need to be bet by taking them on at their own game. Grow a youth team is the only way. E.G - Look at city with what they've spent - Barca would wipe the floor with them. That said barca have spent, but very very well. Buying ain't the way forward this time lads.

There is no bet on Wesley Sneijder, so it could be good news but I am hearing that, even though Harry Redknapp says he is staying, Luka Modric is the unconfirmed player that is having a medical at Manchester with Sneijder being his replacement

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Redknapp just said Modric is 1,000,000% staying. Sky sports news have backed this up. Sneijder is the man we want, its in the balance to whether or not we will sign him. Only issue is the price tag, inter want 30 million + add ons, Fergie is trying to negotiate the best deal possible for us, but will start to budge later on today when he gets nowhere. Still not sure it will go through in time, but we are trying.

UNITED_LEGENDS

Agree0 Disagree0

Where are you getting this info from, and how do you no that there is a medical booked at bridgwater

Agree0 Disagree0

Not certain but im pretty sure modric is in croatia on international duty so its highly unlikely thats going to happen

Agree0 Disagree0

Luka modric is most definitely not having a medical in manchester! Not even in london! He'll stay a spurs player.. this season!

Sneijder is our man! I also heard that personal terms have been agreed, wes really wants the move and they've never been a problem! Fergie values Wesley at about £25 mil, but like united_legends said they're asking for about £30 with addons.. I'm confident this deal will happen because both club and player really want the deal to go through! Rene's comments hinted this:

"Where there is a will, there?¢‚ĒØ‚Ń¢s always a way"

"As club and player really want it, there is always something possible"

Inter know that Sneijder wants the move but because they're not as poor anymore following the sale of Eto'o they want the best deal they can get and see no reason why they shouldn't make it go to the deadline to get it! Also Nike are said to be involved! i don't know how much but then again you'd expect them to be. I'm tempted to sleep until the deadline, wake up and get a face-full of what went down today because all this talk is turnin' me crazy! haha

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

WS won't be coming to OT, there is no one really working on the deal as far as I can tell. The chances of anyone coming to United this window, are just above zero. Possible outside chance of Machada going to Newcastle, for £4m -£6m, adding £8m - £10m and acquiring Tiote for some much needed midfield muscle. Though the chances are amazingly slight. Better chance of Ganso coming in January. The reality is that United ended shopping 6 week's ago. Chance of Gibson, Kuszcak, Machada and Diouf going for £3.5m, £2.5m, £4m and £4m respectively.

These results are extremely important prior to the forthcoming flotation which is to be on a two tier basis with only a proportion of the shares having voting rights. This will allow the Glazers to make instant decisions as at present, without long drawn out board meetings .
