We must tie down Pogba, now people can see what I have seen for a while. I future world-class talent. Fergie sign him, Fergie Fergie sign him up. And how good was Scholes tonight and against Liverpool. Carrick played well, cannot wait to see Cleverley get stuck in too.

Sydney!

Believable14 Unbelievable3

Pogba looks like a class act and looked like he actually wanted to play for United which may be a sign he is willing to sign a contract. I would try a new formation for a couple of games to see how Pogba, Scholes and Cleverly play together..

DEF
Scholes
Pogba Cleverly

Valencia Rooney Nani

Attacking lineup but problem with keeping Welbeck & Hernandez on the bench.. Just a thought

100% Agree Syd the lad has everything you need to be a top class CM and its vital he gets game time and is persuaded to sign a new contract

"Pogba did very well. He’s got great talent and has a tremendous physique for a young boy. You can’t believe he’s 18. I was very pleased [with his performance]. It was a good time to bring him on as we were in control of the game and it gave him a chance to be confident with the ball. We are negotiating his contract at the moment. It’s a bit complicated as he’s changed his agent a couple of times. The boy wants to stay, I think that’s obvious." - SAF

Matthew...

Syd

Totally agree - if we don't have the money to bring in quality, at the very least we need to ensure this lad doesn't slip through our fingers.

He looked wicked, fairplay - speedy, made some tough tackles, but most importantly - A MIDFIELDER WHO GETS IN THE BOX!!

This lad and Cleverly are the only source of goals I see from our central midfield unit - Pogba really impressed me. Hope he's a regular sub for the rest of the season, or even a starter in some games.

Most importanly, he was smiling the whole time - not a sign of a lad looking to leave.

Just finished watching united vs stoke. Have to say Pogba looks a real talent. He was very good when he came on. He kept the passes simple and put in some very good crosses.

Pogba looks ready to start, maybe not against Chelsea but he looks like just the player we need in the CM, Fast, strong, can defend and attack... Would be nice to see him get more game time this season!

UNITED_LEGENDS

Believable13 Unbelievable2

He was great last night in every department...was good to watch...however he was playing the last 20mins at home against a poor, tiring Stoke side

I'd say give him a few more cameo's 1st and perhaps a start in the Europa League

I do foresee Pogba & Cleverly being 1st choice by the start of next season tho' - that would be a v tasty combo!

Believable19 Unbelievable1

I thought I was in some sort of dream last night, It just had to be AGENT GIBSON. To be fair to Gibson alot of United fan's got on his back as he wasn't the best but boy do they love him now. City looked crap last night, lazy and couldn't be bothered as they thought they were gonna win without trying this is why United will win the League. Two massive games coming up. Chelsea and Liverpool. If we win those two games we are looking good. City have Fulham and Villa which you would have thought they'd win.

Ed Is it true that the 50mil bid for Modric will be carried out in the summer when snider would happily come for 35mil

Believable2 Unbelievable21

The Eds make calls based on bits of inside info.....and do a very good job to be fair :-)......but they're not a bunch of Nostradami! (if thats even a term)

ps. Sneijder is on over double the wage of Modric anyway - so looking at transfer fee alone would be pointless {Ed002's Note - The collective noun for Nostradami is a "Prediction".}

Gladstony finally sorts FC Twente paperwork...

It will be good to see how the boy does over the next couple of months and then next season.

he could then come to us for the 2013/14 season with a year and a half worth of european football under his belt...if all goes well...

Reports from Holland suggest that manager Steve McClaren has been greatly impressed with the youngster, who has been training at Enschede for several weeks now and will look to fast-track him into first-team plans in the coming weeks

Lads,

What you reckon Morrison having a Steven Gerrard/Chelsea moment? So close to signing but realises he loves United? (Morrison not Gerrard!)
I very much doubt it but just feel something is gonna happen out the blue tonight! Maybe wishful thinking!

Ports

Believable0 Unbelievable9

I've been thinking (hoping) the same...it seems to have gone a bit quiet?

Gav

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe not then!

Ports

Agree0 Disagree0

Do you seriously believe that's what happened with Gerrard? Gerrard would be a Chelsea player now if it wasn't for his parent's house being vandalised.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Could have been a united player in a yr or 2 but now has to work his way up. moving to london may not help him, major media headquaters in london, if he does do anything it will be probably be shown on a larger scale as united tried der hardest to keep the off the field situations on the low. Sam allardyce is manager who also will not take nicely to a young player messing around, so hes going to have to be careful at west ham aswell.

SSP

Just a light hearted comment Syd, BELIEVE! Remember that iconic quote we use at United?

All those with we not signing caus of this or that its simple we aint signing cause we aint got the money to do the big deals, sooner or later the glazer debt would have to catch up with utd&lot of top players that was here when the glazers came have now gone&now the lack of quality showing up&no cash to bring in quality replacements, even seeing now the squeeze on the younger players wages!45m payed in interest a year that's where our hopes of top class signings are going

Believable7 Unbelievable6

We had much higher debt, lower revenues and we were paying much higher amounts of interest when we signed Berbatov in 2008 or Anderson, Nani & Hargreaves in 2007. So I am not sure what you mean by the debt "Catching up with us". We are in far better shape now.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

It does seem strange though syd...

will have to wait until the summer to see, but if there are no major signings in the summer and saf is still here then we as fans should be asking questions of him and the glazers.....

oxred

Agree0 Disagree0

Not on the pitch though eh, injuries yes, but years ago rio would have been bundled off and giggs and scholes wouldn't have been far behind.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thank God for blind faith Sydney - read the Andersred blog dated 19th of Jan you"ll get all your answers there

Agree0 Disagree0

So Syd, what is your opinion on why we have let so many go and not signed anyone of any note when our squad is so obviously lacking in "Manchester United" players? I read earlier about a takeover in march or April, also read saving funds for new manager (Mourinho)....

Has to be a reason, as even SAF must see we need strengthening in most departments now.

Sambo

Agree0 Disagree0

'no name'

Andy Green is where I get all of my figures from. That's why I know there is cash in the bank. That is how I know our debt is being reduced and that is how I know we pay less interest now. If you read the Andersred column then you would know this.

'Sambo'

The mass clear out was meant to happen in the summer but we couldn't offload them all. I do not see any need to keep fringe players at the club that will never play. I think we are having a clear out so we can bring in more players in the summer. We were never going to spend this month, no one has really.

Well f*** this! Does anyone know if Morrison's signed yet? Our best talent in 20 years and we won't play him, yet we give Giggs another contract extension? I'd be off at the first chance I got as well. I almost hope it comes back to bite us, just to show us the errors of our ways.

Percy

Believable5 Unbelievable5

So you would play a spoilt brat who wouldnt even turn up for training ?
johndenton

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't be ridiculous, he was doing as all players should do and demanding game time! You expect him to be happy with reserves football? He could be the best player in the world in a few years and SAF would play a weary Giggs instead of him.

Percy

Agree0 Disagree0

So its ok for any player not to turn up for training ? what happens if you cant be bothered to turn up for work i doubt you would get a rise and promotion.its funny how the papers had city barca milan roma all scrambling for his signature and he signs for west ham in the championship.as good as he could of been and ive seen him play plenty of times no one would touch him with a barge pole we are better off without the distractions he brings,i would be very depressed though if we didnt tie down pogba
johndenton

Agree0 Disagree0

Percy, the biggest rule tht implies to every player playing for Utd is tht no matter hw good you are, NO ONE IS BIGGER THAN THE CLUB. i think SAF saw him as a disruption to the dressing room & in my opinion the lad hd a lot of s**t to his name. Giving in to his demands would simply mean there is no difference btwn us & the other clubs.

so what's going on with Morrison?
I keep hearing personal terms are agreed and the fee is agreed by multiple sources.

Why isn't the deal announced (yet)?
Reading the rumors everyone seems to be happy with the deal. It is possible to sign such a deal a couple of hours before the deadline :D

Is he having second thoughts? still on the road down south? SAF having second thoughts?

To me the whole situation looked like it was two big headed, stubborn parties trying to win (SAF & Ravel).
If that's true one might give in, or we won't see Ravel back until SAF is gone, at the earliest.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Alot of me is hoping that the fee of 65 k being the maximum he can earn at West Ham is acting as a detterent.

When he knows and has been told that if he works hard enough at united he could be on 200k by the time he's 22.

I'm questioning if it is a little bit of scare tactics by fergie.

Rumours coming out of some people that work at OT are that the lack of signings and part exodus this Jan and refusal to give new contracts to young players is partly due to the fact that a full or partial buyout of the club this March/April and the club are trying to cut as many costs as possible to make this happen. In theory this makes sense but we have heard so many similar rumours I don't know what to believe, anybody else heard anything similar?

Stew4d

Believable2 Unbelievable7

Not saying you are wrong, but it doesn't make sense to me.

Signing the "most promising talent" of this millennium to long term contracts would certainly not decrease the value of the club, even if that means a higher wage bill.
No one considering spending this kind of money would want to see the brightest prospects leaving.

Sorry, but I doubt this is the reason.

Jonny8

Agree0 Disagree0

Hearing the same. Club is being tarted up for sale, overheads being reduced so the G's can get the best deal.
No big names will be arriving, thats why Scholes has come back for the season as AF not able to bring anyone in.

Agree0 Disagree0

More spin Stew4d.

How many times have we heard these whispers?
"The reason United aren't spending money is due to a takeover"

For at least 3 seasons now, regardless of how much we spend in whatever window!

Surely offering new contracts to retain your top talent is imperative to attracting buyers for the club - proves we're heading in the right direction!

Most of the talk today seems to be about Morrison going to West Ham, talks are ongoing as we speak.

I know it's unlikely, but do you recon we would make a bid for anyone today? We've been a bit quiet in January.

Is it true about lindergard injury yesterday, and then DDG not training due to illness. if so big game for Amo's tonight against most physical side in premiership.
Jay

Believable8 Unbelievable0

Amos is a very good keeper and has played in Physical games before. My only concern is if he is playing we may need some experiance in defence infront of him to help organise things.

If Ben Amos plays tonight he will do good.
He looks a lot stronger than Degea and Linda.

So fee/personal terms agreed for Morrison to West Ham. Pending meeting with Sam.

Really not sure what to make of this, if he was that good, brilliant west ham got him and not some big rival but really why are we letting him go? Despite his problems, surely he will grow up and his football will talk in the end. Or on the other hand, if he wasn't that good its good we got some money before we lost him on a free and we have removed a problem making kid.

Believable6 Unbelievable2

I honestly believe that the deal will either turn out to be a loan deal or SAF will insist in a first refusal/set price clause in the contract.
If SAF genuinely wanted TW lad out for good then he would of flogged him to Newcastle but it's funny he's done a deal with a close friend and someone SAF knows he can trust in Big Sam! I think it's a good move for the lad, see the grass isn't always greener but will get some game time in a competitive league. I could be wrong and end up with egg on my face but I believe this is another stroke of genius on SAF part!

Ports

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't you see United have done both?

The problem child is out of the Club and moving to a new area to start afresh where he will get more game time.

If it's a loan, we'll obviously get him back. If it's permanent then we'll surely put a buy-back clause in the contract. It would be uttely stupid not to, he's the best talent we've had since Scholes. I think this explains the low fee.

Agree0 Disagree0

Apparently morrison will be on £10-15k per week rising to £65k with bonuses. He aint worth that a week

United are rumoured to be stealing Veseli from City, could this mean a good friend or friends of his could also be joining up in the summer? Xhaka? Shaqiri? I guess time will tell.

Sydney!

Believable9 Unbelievable3

Sydney do you know if this is a done deal i saw this morning it was but cant find anything on it? And very good point regarding his freinds!

Why does it mean that, does not indicate that in the slightest.

I, for one, couldn't care less about Morrison leaving. If he was all that good, Fergie would have given him the cash and he would have broken into the first team. "He's only 18" Yeah? Rooney, Fabregas etc all broke into the first teams before 18.

In my opinion, it is a blessing. If the kid doesnt want to wear the United shirt he aint worth the hassle. He will not make it at West Ham either, if he cant be motivated to train for the best team in the world he sure as hell aint gonna be motivated to train with West Ham. He is a primadonna, end of.

I believe it should impact the Pogba situation, with us being able to get him to sign soon due to more leeway with Wage due to Gibson and Diouf being off the books as well as potentially Macheda, King etc.

However with more and more players going out the do i think we can expect a big overhaul of the squad in the summer.

Only players i could rule out leaving in the summer are Young, Cleverley, Carrick, Rooney, Hernandez, Welbeck, Vidic, Jones, Smalling, DDG and Lindegaard. Id like to put the twins in there too but one of the Ed's believe they maybe gone in the summer too.

Fergie tried to move Nani on in the summer, and i imagine he will entertain the idea again this summer if a significant bid comes in. I think we could see Valencia leave also - although he is very consistent and getting back to his top form, he is very one dimensional.

Fletcher i hope comes back as he is a great squad player, would be sad to have his career ended like that.

MUFC_Devil

Believable5 Unbelievable10

There could be a few big changes, but it would surprise me if it became anything other than a one or the other situation.

A lot of it will come down to what money is offered for which players, but I don't think there will be multiple departures and any single position.

Unless there is a significant investment into the club, from an outside source, I seriously doubt the clubs financial capability to effectively carry out a squad overhaul on the level that your talking about.

TM

Agree0 Disagree0

He is that good you fool, he is arguably the player with the most potential to ever graduate from our academy. He has the potential to be one of the best players on the planet, but evidently his behavior problems/contract demands are obviously the final straw for SAF. You shouldn't comment on a player's ability if you have never watched them play, if you have watched him play, then you would know just how good he is and how good he will be.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Obviously haven't seen any of him in the reserves if you 'couldn't care less' about him leaving. All players are different and Morrison is on the verge of being class if he got his act together.

From a personal point of view I can understand it as he clearly has many problems, but from just a plain football point of view every united fan should be a little bit upset today to lose such a promising young talent.

Smithy

Agree0 Disagree0

You would rather see valencia leave than fletcher!?

Nani is one of the only 'matchwinners' in our squad and although he is inconsistent at times, unless he is going to havea replacement already lined up (hazard, shaqiri, dzagoev) then fergie can afford to get rid of him!

I personally think anderson has had enough time to develop, although been hampered with loads of injuries, think he could see the door in the summer.

Gpot7

Bet its all paper talk and he will be in squad later.

dont believe anything until it hapens IMO

Scutt85

Agree0 Disagree0

So Syd, you think that a youth player who demonstrates such astonishing levels of arrogance, a complete lack of respect for the club and the manager, not to mention his team mates and fans and the law in general, should be given what he wants?
Regardless of his "can't be bothered training" attitude?
Fergie and United have given him ample opportunity to show a different attitude, apparently he prefers to live in this "gang banger" fantasy rather than knuckle down and commit.
As talented as he obviously is, he is very immature and lacks nouse to get ahead.

OP: Nani AND Valencia out of the door? Our two most creative players? In a team that is sorely lacking, erm, creativity? If by "one dimensional" you mean direct, then yes, Toni V is that.

Oops, Sorry Syd.
I mentioned you and i meant to direct my response to the OP.

We have to try and forget this year

But is SAF clearing off and leaving a the next Managervto get his own signings

Nani wont be sold unless he wants to go which doesn't look likely. Antonio Valencia isn't going anywhere anytime soon! He's not one dimensional, he gives us something different. You needa open your eyes son!

Does anyone else have a sneaky feeling that something unexpected might be making its way through the pipeline today? Something doesn't seem right, scholes out of retirement for the short term solution, solution to what? Can't be clevs return he is not bold enough to run midfield, nor carrick, both require a complimentary figure. Giggs hasn't been good enough cm this year, no fletcher, Anderson isn't good enough, Pogba obviously isn't seen as good enough yet, Behind to city at this stage of the season, does Fergie really think we have enough to catch them, or is he really more likely just to role over and let them have it this year? I wouldn't have thought so, or at least I hope not.
Fingers crossed I'm right.
Syd2

Believable4 Unbelievable5

I expect the "short term solution" is providing more deapth in midfield until the summer, and providing cover for injured players for the time being. I doubt there is anything significant happening today.

TM

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't understand the idea that Scholes is a 'solution' - he asked the question and Fergie answered it.

Personally, I wouldn't get excited. Very little news coming out of OT. *** can't even be bothered to beat the Sneijder drum this year!

Agree0 Disagree0

Your right about the something isn't right
Something hasn't been right for the past 24 month
Jred

Agree0 Disagree0

Have to agree with Jred on this its gone on too long with the problems we have in midfield but cant see anything happening today, I think its time a clear out in this department was made, Giggs to retire as scholes, I would also sell Carrick while we might get something for him and Anderson too both not good enough for us. I wont mention any names as other posters have done that, also a new centre back is required and left back(I cant see Fergie selling Evera next season but I would), finally a new centre forward may be purchased too we have never replaced Van Nistelrooy for goals we badly need somebody who can score 20 + goals a season, finally can we also get rid of Mike Phelan as can somebody tell me what he actually does? None of the players seem to listen to him during games when he speaks to them. I really hope we have money to spend in the Summer as we badly need quality purchases.

We are signing Frederic Veseli today. Man City youngster we have poached from their 'Elite Development Squad'. Had his medical yesterday. CB rated fairly highly. Can't see anymore incoming's.

United Till I Die 1987

Believable9 Unbelievable5

Frederic Veseli is a Kosovo born Swiss player known to be good friends with Xherdan Shaqiri - who again is a Kosovo born Swiss player. Coincidence? Maybe - makes more sense that we would be buying Veseli (who can already speak english) to help out Shaqiri if we sign him in the summer.

Dont shoot me down for it, it is only a theory.

Swiss centre back. 19 yrs old. If this is actually true it will be interesting to see what the clubs plans for him are. He has travelled with the City squad on occasion but hasnt really been anywhere near establishing himself.

The guardian say it so it must be true....ravel maybe going on loan to westham, master stroke by club? Get him away from manchester and what better manage than fergies mate big sam.
Convinced come march his new contract will be signed
Jay

He will be sold. I don't think there's a way back for him after angering so many team mates.
Dingle

Agree0 Disagree0

It seems SAF is making an example of Ravel and letting the rest of the squad know that turning up to training and being a contract rebel will not be tolerated, letting the squad know who's boss. Ravel is a very special player and I would imagine United have a deal which entitles us to a percentage of a future Ravel sale. But with Ravel leaving and Pogba possibly signing, could there have been issues between these two? Has SAF made his choice?
