There's no point in keeping a player that doesn't want to play for his club.
You pick him to start the game. he won't put 100% into his performance which will let the club down. You keep him and not play him just because you don't want anybody else to have him. waste of money on his wages.
If Rooney wants to leave, let him leave. If he wants to stay then keep him I say!
Agree0
Disagree0
He was just being immature and getting annoyed with SAF for doing the right thing in subbing him off for being too unfit and not playing to the standards required, if he grows up, sets his priorities straight and works hard then of course I'd love him to stay.
Ozwald
Agree0

I think the club may have finally had enough of his drama
Agree0
Disagree0
I would honestly prefer him to stay. I think playing under somebody other then fergie will give him the fresh start he feels he needs. I can't believe so many utd fans want to see the back of him. a fully functioning rooney is as good as anyone in the world bar messi and ronnie. He only asked to leave because how he has been treated, playing all over the field except striker and he's still scored 20+ goals
Shane
Agree0
Disagree0
Rooney is still our best all round player when he's in shape. He is light years better than Chico or Danny up front. Only RVP can edge him out there. Better in midfield than anyone apart from Carrick and potentially better than him. My one concern is that Kagawa and Rooney are both top players in the hole. It would mean we would need to play a 4-3-2-1 formation with the full backs, and midfielders giving us the width required. Or Rooney playing deeper, or Kagawa sitting on the bench which would be a shame.

Hi Eds,
Do you believe there to be any substance to the Ezequiel Garay and Kevin Strootman to United stories that have surfaced/resurfaced today?
Welsh Red {Ed004's Note - Yes both are quite likely to sign IMO}
Believable28
Unbelievable8
Does this mean Evra's replacement will be saved until 2014? Especially since there needs to be more money spent on the midfield and wing/attack.
Nat {Ed004's Note - I couldn't tell you, I don't know what Moyes plans are or how much he to spend}
Agree0
Disagree0
Why oh why are we buying a centre back? At the moment our midfield next season will consist of. Carrick, Cleverley, anderson (unless sold), Young, Nani (unless sold) Giggs and Strootman (if signed). If we don't get at least 2 or 3 midfielders and and at least 1 winger, and with SAF gone, we will struggle to make the top 4 next season! It's so obvious to everyone outside the club but for the last 3 or 4 years the midfield has not been upgraded! Mourinho, Pellegrini and Villas-Boas must be sh&tting themselves at the thought of taking on our "world class" midfield. I hate to be so pessimistic but we simply HAVE to get some class in the middle of the park IMO.
Agree2
Disagree0
Vidic must be on his way out. Not wha tI want but he has been struggling since the last injury and if we can make some money towards a solid replacement then it sounds like a sensible move.
Agree0
Disagree0
Garay makes no sense. We already struggle to get Evans, Jones and Smalling enough matches. Rio and Vidic look to still be performing at top levels (Vidic is still in his prime). And we have a few decent CB prospects in the reserves. So again, even if Garay is worth the fee, we have no need for him and he's just as likely to ruin Jones/Smalling's development.
Agree0
Disagree0
Jones will blatantly be used in a midfield role frequently next season and with Carrick and Strootman, Kagawa playing an attacking role, our midfield won't be too shabby with Cleverley and maybe Anderson as back up.
Ozwald
Agree0
Disagree0
Oswald - Cleverley isn't Manchester United quality, he is barely EPL level. Anderson is just to unfit, inconsistent and injury prone. We need 2 more midfielders, more than yet another CB.

Ed, you have said that PSG have an offer on the table for Di Maria and Man City are interested also. is the fact that we seem to be in no rush to bid suggesting that we have someone else in mind? Perhaps a double deal with Barca for Thiago and Alexis Sanchez? {Ed002's Note - It suggests nothing to me, but as I said, interest remains in Gaitan as well.}

Ed002, can you confirm or deny that we have agreed a deal for Garay. I thought interest had cooled with Rio signing a new deal, but Portuguese papers claim a deal has been agreed. Also is there any update on Strootman? Thanks.
Sydney! {Ed002's Note - Nothing has changed with Garay as far as I know. As I explained months ago, I expect Manchester United to move for him regardless of what RF does. I don't see RF playing an entire season and it will be a good opportunity to integrate a new CB in to the team. I think Garay will be an ideal option for the club. Strootman remains very much on the cards - this should not be a shock but don't expect any confirmation for a couple of weeks. I was in Israel all of last week and took a look around the grounds with someone close to the Dutch players - and he was also of the opinion that the deal will complete.}
Believable15

Thanks Ed002, very detailed and opinionated reply. It's not like you to rate a player. Anything new on Di Maria? Thanks.
Sydney! {Ed002's Note - A €20M offer is on the table for Di Maria from PSG and Manchester City are looking for talks over a deal as well. Gaitan remains of interest as well.}
Agree0

Rio has signed for one more season, Vidic is still there, Jones, Smalling and Johnny Evans. Why is another centre half required?
A creative midfielder and a wide player is what the club needs right now, noth another centre half.
Agree1

I agree with the above post. Why are people wanting us to waste money on positions that don't need strengthening?!
The main position needed is the centre mid simple as.
Melwing28
Agree1
Disagree0
I am not sure why we are going for Garay, it seems a very strange for me, however if the club feel it is necessary then I am sure we have good reason. I do wonder however if this means Jones is moving to midfield permanently next season? If he does then we may only see Strootman and not Thiago join. I also have a feeling that Moyes is going to give one or two players a chance. I think Anderson in particular will be given half a season to impress by Moyes, this could limit the signings we have.
Agree0
Disagree0
Interesting opinions Ed. I rememebr pouring scorn on this rumour when it arised and one of the Eds maybe you said you expected a deal. All gone quiet and I am surprised to see you still see something happening there as personally, like other replies on here I see no reason whatsoever for us to buy another centre back currently
Invisible Stuey
Agree0

Ed002, thanks again, does this mean City are keeping their options open just in case Isco or Navas doesn't arrive? Or will they go for Di Maria regardless?
Melwing, perhaps Jones is earmarked for midfield for the next few years? Rio will retire at end of next season so it will be Garay/Vidic and Smalling/Evans.
Sydney! {Ed002's Note - I would suspect it is them keeping their options open - and they are wary of losing wide players.}
Agree0
Disagree1
Ed002, I know you do not like talking about money, but would Gaitan be a cheaper or more expensive signing than Di Maria? (excluding salaries) In your opinion. Thanks.
Sydney! {Ed002's Note - I am not going to go there.}
Agree0
Disagree0
Vidic is going that's why. Who is Ed002?
Agree0
Disagree0
It becomes easier to sign players when they become available, or their at a point in their career where they will realistically move. That is the situation with Garay and it appears the club has him as a target.
Although we may not need him at this exact moment, that doesn't mean we won't need him in a year or two. Rio has a year or two max and I don't expect him to be a regular in those two years. Vidic has had a serious injury, something very difficult to accomdate your playing style too, especially at his age. Personally if a big enough offer comes in for him I would take it, something between 10 and 15 I would bite their hands off.
Then you have the other three and there is really only one who looks like he can play CB regularly and that is Evans. Honestly would you not be a little concern if you saw Smalling and Jones in front of Degea for the first 10 games next season, especially with a new manager? They are gaining their experience slowly ready to challenge for a regular place in the future.
Signing Garay may not make much sense in the short term, but in the long run, we would have a player that has grown with the current squad, gained experiance in England, and can challenge for the CB position with the other three Centre Halfs, maybe accomdating for when Jones is deployed in Denfensive Midfield.
Also on a side note, I don't think we need just one midfielder. i'm sure a lot of us will think the same, believing we need an old fashioned box to box and a more creative minded energetic free roaming midfielder. This is a necessity in the short term, as we all know my lack of trust in Cleverly. However I do believe we have these types of players coming through our under 21 team, the likes of Janujaz, Powell, Lingard, Daehli and so on.
As for wingers I agree, apart from Valencia we need a couple players that can come straight into the line up.

I think that's just papers making mischief. Don't need a centre back and Garay isn't that good. Certainly wouldn't waste fifteen million on him which could go on bigger priorities. {Ed002's Note - It is nothing to do with the papers. Idiot.}
Agree0
Disagree1
Ed002, it was worth a try ;)
When you say wide players, are City worried about losing both Nasri & Silva? Could it be a case of Navas & Isco in, Nasri & Silva out?
Sydney! {Ed002's Note - There is interest in both Nasri and Silva. I would expect you will see a lot of changes with the new manager.}
Agree0
Disagree0
Ed002, with obvious interest in Nasri, Silva, Dzeko & Tevez, other than RM is there anyone else interested in Aguero? Is it possible all of the above could be sold this summer?
Sydney! {Ed002's Note - It would not be a surprise to see Barcelona make a move for Aguero.}
Agree0
Disagree0
Who ever said united need a creative midfielder! I'm pretty sure that SAF brought kagawa for that reason last year!
Agree0
Disagree0
Syd, would you not think that Gaitan would be more expensive. Madrid need fire sales so Di Maria is going very cheaply where has Gaitan has a release clause for £40 million so realistically we could have to pay upwards of £25 million for Gaitan who I really don't think is worth that kind of money. Having said that, the player profile on Gaitan is very favourable and really makes him out to be a world beater. Hopefully this could be the case if we sign him.
Agree0
Disagree1
Wow, Neymar, Messi & Aguero in attack?
Fresh, I expect excluding salaries Gaitan would be slightly more expensive which makes me want MU to push hard for Di Maria. Could Garay be an enticement to MU? Problem is PSG have several Argies in their side.
Sydney!
Agree1
Disagree0
I thought Barca don't have much money after struggling with funds for Fabregas last summer? Can't see him buying Neymar AND Aguero unless they offload more than one first team player.
With Man Titty as well, they've never really had wide players other than Adam Johnson and more recently Scott Sinclair? Nasri and Silva always drift centrally and they use their fullbacks for width but obviously the new manager most likely Pellegrini would probably try offload Nasri and replace him with Isco who can play better out wide. Think Silva will stay!
Also Syd, hasn't Aguero just signed a new contract extension?

Sydney, I can't see Jones being used long term in midfield, this is why I think Strootman should be coming in.

All of our CB's are injury prone, we have been caught short several times over recent years, players like Carrick having to fill in and a bench with no defenders. A team like Utd shouldn't be in that situation. Either we need to sign another CB of a quality standard or we need to change our Coaching/Physios in my opinion. Especially with Vidic and Rio coming to the end of their careers, Evra doesn't track well now either, which adds even more pressure.
I'd bring in Vermaelen for cover, cheap, experienced, leader and it would annoy Arsene.
