I can't wait for jones and smalling both to be fit and available and paired together at cb. I think a few players performances have really dropped in the last 12 months, Giggs and evra are the obvious ones but i now think this should be rio's last season. Vidic will be 31 this month and with the injuries he's picking up its impossible for him to reach the same level he was at. I posted on here lawhile back that Evans was our best defender last season however i don't think he'll ever be world class and im always nervous when he plays because he's susceptible to stupid mistakes. So its vital we get our young cbs pairing if not buy another defender.
what do ye think?

Just on Ed7's point.
If you don't trust our manager or our players, don't support United. No one is bigger than the club.
We want positive thinking and not negative statements.
One Love United!! {Ed007's Note - ??????? What did I say????}

Sorry Ed was meant in support of you and not an attack.Im just sick of people being so negative and or offensive. if people don't like what United have to offer then they can go elsewhere. Negativity doesn't win titles. {Ed007's Note - Phew!!!!! thanks All am am saying if it's about football or banter it's fine. Everyone has an opinion and is entitled to air it, if you don't agree with the post then explain why. It it is just childish and abusive name calling that won't be posted, calling someone a load of vulgar names is NOT banter. If your post doesn't add anything to the thread it won't posted. It is basically the cyber-bullying and pointless trolls that will be kept to as minimum as possible. Lets just get back to the football lads.}

Whilst i agree with the sentiment are you seriously suggesting that we should not voice our opinion on the club, players, manager etc if our opinions are not sunny optimism?
Sorry but as a supporter of over 25 years i feel i have earned the right to express disatisfaction with the performances of certain players or the managers odd tactics and baffling team selections.
Are you truly happy with performances this season? Getting outplayed in chunks of games by Fulham, Southampton, Liverpool? Seeing a legend like Giggs struggling in games? I could go on.
I'll support this club till the day i die, but when players dip below the standards required of a Manchester United player i will have my say.
Is it negative to say that things need freshening up?

That is true. No one is bigger than the club which includes the players themselves. But recent performances warrants them to be reminded of that by loyal fans such as ourselves.

If the fans have to shut up and swallow it like you suggest then that is the fastest way to destroy a club - You are a slave not a fan.

I reckon the poster is a secret City fan and just wants us to lie down and accept the abysmal performances that we are witnessing week in week out. Or maybe he has joined our ranks over the past couple of seasons and is just familiar with this sub standard play, as he knows no different.
I am in Myanmar at the moment and even my horse and cart driver was saying in his broken English how bad we are now compared to several years ago, more and more people are watching City and Chelsea instead of Utd, which was the only team they supported a couple of years ago. Sums it up for me.
Bet it's the same everywhere. We need to get some passion and ability back in the team not settle for this drivle.

Hi all
I also think that we should have our views
as long as it is not vulgar and bad name calling everybody as there views on things
and to be honest the performances of united have not been that good so far but the midfield was better on Tuesday so maybe things are going to improve

It's all very well to say trust the players, sadly some of them have proved to be insdequate. Nani is woefully inconsistent. Evra's legs are gone and he can't get backquickly enough if caught out of position. Yes we are in a transition and i trust SIr Alex to get it right. We have been unlucky with injuries and once the quality players that we have signed inthe last 2 years are fit and firing we will be ok.

Totally agree. So if we are optimistic then evra Giggs carrick Evans Rio will become world beaters?! If we sit and watch our team being run over by Southampton Fulham Liverpool etc then forget top four finish.

Sorry fellas, apart from when I was playing every week, I have watched United for over 40 years, through the dark days of the 2nd div, and the post 1968 days, when some players who were too old stayed well beyond their sell by date, we signed players who weren't up to the job. Sounds a bit familiar doesn't it. I pay my season ticket like many others do, this gives me the right to constructively criticise when I see what 75000 others can see, that midfield is very poor, the full back situation is not much better, and we cannot rely on Giggs and Scholes for ever, we have had three lads go because they felt they were not getting a fair chance, how many more will do the same, the hard facts are Giggsy is over the hill, he has beena great player, my advice is don't ruin the memories. Scholes can still do a job, as his game does not mean he has to be all over the pitch, but this season should be his last. True we have injuries, but we have more players injured than any other EPL club......Why? It does not mean this is all doom and gloom, we have some great players and some great lads in the reserves, but we do need one or two players who are at the top of their game, and some who need to be shown the door. Its the first time SAF appears to be allowing sentiment to overrule objectivity.

Not me! I am as good as gold :)
Just because some ED's take objection to the phrase P*** life and B***** feeders, in regards to "community organisations" that condone "speech that may not offend Uruguayan cultural norms" doesn't mean I have been pushing it! :)
Keep up the good works Ed's - oh and news on a certain Wigan midfielder?

And the news we all did not want..
Michael Carrick, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes are all fit to face Newcastle United after missing the Reds' midweek trip to Romania through illness.
And Evra is still fit too..

If we play them all, we'll loose this game again! Just like last year and Fergie will complaint about the Refs or the Pitch or something!

At a place like Newcastle we will need all the experience we have in the squad,
I would be very suprised if the manager chose the team he played against Spurs,l or indeed the team he played in mid week,i think you will find it will be a mixture of the two.
One thing the manager failed to clarrify was the availability of Valencia, who if fit could be a very important player in this particular fixture.

I'm actually sick of this. To the back teeth. The same effing culprits, back in the team yet again. Whatever happened to punishing players for bad performances, Fergie? Or playing those who are on form?
I hate to say it but a completely clean slate is needed at OT. From the top down. Yes, we may struggle with a new manager, but we will struggle with these constant baffling team selections.

Why is it bad news that our players are fit?
You may not want them in the team but wanting them injured is ridiculous.
I am pretty sure that Scholes, Carrick and Evra will start.

Can some one tell me why we need to start experianced players in every game? surely they would be at there best to come on late in the game and try and influance the game rather then starting them and stopping our younger players getting that experiance for the future!?

I hope SAF has "learned" starting Scholes and Giggs in any game will hurt us. Just like last season when he started Park and Giggs. Dont get me wrong, legends they are..but used sparringly would be the better effect. my 2 cents.

People always fall for saf's post match comments. He obviously knows our ageing midfield is the problem. We are amoung world footballs biggest clubs, its obvious there will be tactical experts amoung the coaches in the backroom staff. They arent going to miss what we fans are picking up on easily enough.
About the younger midfielders (ando/clev/fletch) it seems that if they get their acts together the situation could easily change. Now that fletchers back, i think we see why we didnt sign an energetic type player. We have 2 already in clevery and fletcher. In the other position i think saf may have wanted to use anderson, and back him up with one of giggs, scholes or carrick sparinngly when rested. We did see feguson choose cleverly and anderson as first choice mid. at the start of last year afterall, and do well, so he may well not have intended to really be using the old timers so much as what we have so far this season.
The situation in midfield isnt good at all, but have some faith in our manager at least. Its not his fault. The problem to begin with is financial and thus not really in his control.

Sorry but that is incorrect we could have had Dembele for little money that is just 1 instance of a cost effective midfielder

Scholes and Carrick are quality. Giggs is very much on his last legs. He has become a liability at times and that is no good!

Since Smalling isnt far away from returning to full fitness, Perhaps a couple of games in the reserves to get his match sharpness and fitness is needed. I know Vidic and Jones are still injured but we have Keane and Wootton who are fully fit and available. Wootton in particular was very impressive alongside Rio in pres season and their CB looked more stable and assured than Rio and Evans. If you look at Fletcher he was out for a while had has got 4-5 reserve games under his belt plus league and has looked good and full on energy and enthusiasm. These few reserve games help players so its. So its better to some reserve game time under your belt where theres no pressure. Theres no need to rush players back and risk further injuries to the team.

Smalling has started to train again, he will be a contender for a bench spot on Sunday, good news. Give him a week or two and maybe he could start!
-JakeW {Ed002's Note - Dortmund's Lewandowski was watched last year by Liverpool, PSG, Real Madrid, Rubin Kazan, Manchester United, Spartak Moscow (who were concerned about losing Welliton), Juventus and Lille. I very much suspect Bayern Munich would be top of the list with a cheque in hand should he not agree an extension at Dortmund, but Dortmund certainly do not want to sell him to BM. The other more viable options are Arsenal, Manchester United, Juventus (albeit he is now far from first choice for them as they are closing in elsewhere). Chelsea have considered Lewandowski but I don't know of any bid being made. At present Dortmund and the player have been unable to reach agreement over a new deal but that does not mean that they won't. At present, there is no agreement in place for him to join any other club.}

Hey guys just wondering does everyone think Fergie is gonna drop De Gea this weekend? Can't remember the last time my fantasy team got points from a GK. Only got Ruddy as a backup and last week he shipped 5 against Pool :o.

The whole thing is absolute madness.There is no doubt who our best keeper is.Lindegard is a backup keeper ,might be a good starter at another club but here no chance.DeGea is young will make mistakes all keepers do but in order to learn he needs to play not sit and watch.

Until DDG can catch a cross under pressure his place will be in doubt, he goes in like a girl,once that is sorted he will be best in the world

When we bought De Gea, Fergie had faith in our full backs, the problem is that Evra is getting a bit lost and more teams are exploiting this to get crosses in.
I don't know the stats but it would be interesting to see how many teams have crossed the ball this/last season compared to 3 years ago against us. De Gea is by far the best goalkeeper, our defenders should be assisting him not adding to the worry when a ball comes in. He has one small weakness which can easily be bypassed or worked on. What is training for??!!
