Vidic possibly out for several months.
It is feared that he has suffered ligament damage!
Great what more could go wrong for us?

The more the aging 'regulars' get injured the more these promising youngsters will get their chance!
Try looking on the brightside, us at united have had it good now for a long time. It maybe a wake up call to the glaziers, you spend peanuts and you get monkeys!!

Let's get this straight Cleverley injured vidic chico fabio Raphael berbatov WWE got what we deserved last night we av not played well since Cleverley got injured first time round don't get me wrong I'm a utd diehard since 73 but I do believe we will turn this around once most of our injuries clear up but don't expect any new players comin in till next season. Utd we stand

Agree0 Disagree0

Its not so bad, United now have the chance to win the Europa Cup!
Finally these kids will get a chance, frankly United need to spend big though!
Cahill, why not. I think Veron, has put Fergie off big foreign imports for good. So I won't be vexing myself wondering who United will sign, Barkley (Not foreign I know), Goetze, Krasnic, Erikson.
I suspect we'll purchase more Tosic's and Diouf's of the world.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cahill would be good now, i know people say no he not up to united standard. but seriously rio cannot play 2 games a week anymore. when we get to the business end of the season the league games come thick and fast.. jones/smalling are the future, but not ready to play together regular in my eyes. cahill would be perfect to bring them on

Agree0 Disagree0

You're all deluded.

Europa Cup will the same old dross - Gibson, Berbatov, Macheda, Park, the usual part-timers will be played as SAF looks to 'put them in the shop window'.

Don't expect us to get beyond game number one, SAF wouldn't admit it but he knows our squad is too thin to compete on all fronts and he will be willing to sacrifice Europa Cup in a vain attempt tot ry and nick the Prem.

Both Smalling and Jones are better than Cahill, how will Cahill bring them on? He could learn from them.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree both Jones and Smalling are better in defence but if we don't get our midfield sorted Jones will keep filling in there creating a space, not to mention the rb position and needing a back up if any get injured so we got room for Cahill

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd, your'e whistling past the graveyard there. Did you not see the horlicks that
Smalling made of the 2nd goal the other night. Also, I know we're talking about defence but Jones was completely anonymous for the 2nd half on Wednesday. This club is being strangled to death by the Glazers and unfortunately our great manager is making a lot of mistakes at the moment

Agree0 Disagree0

Gibson could get injured, then we will be in trouble.

del boy!

IT IS CONFIREMED: vidic is out for the rest of the season....it just adds another key player to the already long injury list....

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we shud take Alex on loan, hes solid {Ed002's Note - But not available on loan.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Smalling and Jones are both better than Cahill and are central defenders despite not playing there pretty much since coming to United. They played really well there in the England U21 championship but I dont believe have done it once as a a pairing since coming to United (although may be wrong). Again I stand by my previous points we HAVE to prioritise the midfield and get some bodies in there if anywhere!

The simple fact is, SAF has gone from buying players from the Harrods and Selfridges of the footballing world. To buying Poundland players!
Its almost like some personal duel with Wenger, of who can spend the least and still be successful. Or turn the most Poundland players into something and somebody.
Without Rooney, United do not have players who can take the game by the scruff of the neck. The rest can merely 'do a job'.
At least season ticket holders won't have dig deeper and buy tickets, for games in the Europa league. Xmaspoundlandman

Fergie previously noted that there would be no signings during the winter window, we have added to the injury list since then, but I still expect Fergie to give more of a chance to the fringe players.
This is ideal, as it will give the players a fair chance and the opportunity to get games, forge relationships and consistantcy, it should also create a sink or swim scenario and one that will hopefully let the fans get a glimpse of these players, who are constantly criticised.
Defeats are so terminal and fatal to fans and the media for clubs like United, this is just a mindset, positive or not it keeps the players on their toes, creates a them and us mentality and introduces a lesson to be learnt. On Wednesday, the penalty area was ploughed up and Basle played with two condensed lines in midfield and defence, forcing the play out wide. United have been successful in playing quickly, getting to the byline and cutting the ball back or between the six yard line and the far post, this uneven surface was a suprise to United and Rooney in particular. Or maybe it's sour grapes and not gamesmanship.

Agree0 Disagree0

You're being a bit naive about Cahill Sydney. Smalling and Jones are both good defenders but they aren't world class yet. Both are inexperienced and still learning. Cahill is more polished and vastly experienced in the PL. With the state of our midfield and the RB situation we are going to more than likely need Smalling to play RB and Jones to play CM fairly often. A partnership of Rio and Cahill would work well, if Rio gets injured then Cahill and Smalling. For Ł6m or so it's a no brainer if you ask me, at 25 he's still got plenty left in him as well. We should not be relying on Evans, he is simply not United quality.

The need for investment is evident. Without Cleverly our midfield is bordering on the ridiculous.

If going out of CL is our way of showing we've closed the gap on Barcelona, then we have serious problems.

I do think injuries are taking their toll though.

Our Problem was shown perfectly on wednesday. Having to rely on the wingers like nani to supply the crosses is too much. Fair enough to Basle they played two solid lines of 4, but we need a quality midfield player in the centre WITH cleverly when he is fit, to try and be more direct because crosses are not always going to work. We need another defender brought now that vidic is out for the season plus the other injuries. Cahill if we can get him for no more than 10mill would be good. Because Jones may want to play in the centre of defence, he's going to have to deal wid filling in at RB and CM. I hope being knocked out of the CL, give us more time to focus solely on the premierleague.

Agree0 Disagree0

Guys does anyone else not think its sad we are all crying out for Cleverleys return yet the lad has only played 5 or 6 games for us. Sign of the times I'm afraid, we need centre midfielders in Jan, to have a 38 year old winger and a 19 year old centre half playing in the engine room the other night was embarassing and needs to be addressed in this windown

Edds is it true that us crashing out Of the champs lge will have massive effects on us as I read sum wer that we had to make semis of champ lge and win prem n av HUD fa cup run just to pay our loans n have a transfer kitty is there any truth in this or could u clear up the situation for me plz ed nice 1 {Ed001's Note - no, the club's not going to fold because of this, it is in fairly safe hands as far as that is concerned, they run the club at a profit, that is a profit after loans etc are paid.}

The difference between finishing 1st and 2nd in the EPL is Ł800k. So we have no worries where that is concerned. All EPL clubs have also been given an extra Ł5m this season too. Even with United going out of the CL this early we will still get a minimum of Ł25m. Last season we made Ł46m so we are therefore Ł21m worst off than last year. So I make it overall around Ł17m worst off than last year, but with the DHL, Mister Potato & several telecommunication deals kicking in this season and the fact that our interest has dipped by Ł10m, we will still be profitable.

I remember hearing david gill saying that the club only ever budgets for a top four finish in the league and only getting as far as the group stage in every Champions League campaign. Also they budget for just one round in the FA Cup and one round in the League Cup, so anything else is a finacial bonus for the club. It will definatly have an effect on the tansfer kitty though so dont excpect many big signings. There might well be a move for Cahill in January though.

The piks are paid off and the bonds dont mature till 2017 so correct me iff im wrong but we dont actually have any interest to pay, do we?
