A lot of talk that deal has been done for Ronaldo at the minute. Others are saying a bid is to be submitted.

Hope this is true.

Us fans trying to rally behind this transfer isn't much use if the fundamentals aren't in place. Look at the situation with dortmund not wanting to sell lewandowski to bayern.

Thats what pride will do to the thinking of a club and its board. - If dortmund will go that far, do you see real madrid as a club that would be tempted into selling a record breaker, legendary player, - while at his peak?

Real madrid will put a strong emphasis on loosing the player (- if necessary, ) on their own terms. Expect them to attempt to sign a replacement (- they are already making a lot of noise about bale) My wager would also be that they attempt to see ronaldo join a team without history if he does leave. (Monaco?)
This is possibly one of the worst slurs on real madrids proffesional pride to date. One of their best ever players is forcing his way out, at his peak. - It won't be a happy divorce.

From our perspective, I think our board will have to be very clever in the way they approach real madrid, and of course we all know if won't happen for pennies. In honesty, I think we have more chance next year, and more still in 2015 when the contract expires.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lewn will go Bayern Ronaldo will not leave real for us

Agree0 Disagree0

Who's talking? You?

Nick86

Agree0 Disagree0

Pride? you're talking sh1te! they don't have a replacement for lewy they've already lost goetze bayern are european champions and probably currently have the strongest team in europe, dortmund financially are in a really strong position so why should they make bayern that much stronger while weakening their on position, they don't need the money they need a striker! so I think its less about pride and more about the fact that they won't be nearly as strong without him!

Jamal.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jamal's hit the nail on the head with Lewandowski and Dortmund. But Madrid will surely want to cash in on Ronaldo if they're not confident he'll sign a new deal, it seems at the moment that Ronnie is testing their resolve asking for a lot to see whether they regard him as highly as he thinks he should be. If it turns out they won't bend over to meet his demands he might not want to stay there. Just the way it seems with him at the moment.

Cant confirm how but as it stands rooney may be heading towards exit door. (i m huge fan) and most likely destnation is bayern. It wil be in public knowledge soon. Baywrn will offer around 25 to 30 m for the player.

It wouldn't suprise me now it looks like they won't get Lewandowski. It could work out really well for us. We could sell Rooney to Bayern this summer, then replace him with Lewandowski next summer for free. Lol.

Agree1 Disagree0

Rooney wouldn't want to move his family to germany, he has 2 kids now plus would have noticed english players don't seem to feature to heavily in the england squad once no longer within england. I beleive he may still be a red next year

Agree0 Disagree0

30 mil + robben - good deal

TRUMORS

Agree0 Disagree2

Have to agree that it will be a shame if we loose Rooney. Some of us have become disenchanted with Wayne, but I think if you weigh things up, its not a one sided affair.

Wayne Rooney has been been playing below the level that would have seen him be remembered as a genuinely great player. No doubt he would have wanted to realise himself as an equal to players of the generation, - the likes of xavi's/iniesta's/villa''s etc. , if not, messi's or ronaldo's.

Is it all totally down to him not performing?

I think we became aware he could really be at that level the year after ronaldo left. United adapted their game to Rooney, and the standard he set, was that of a player who had reached the top of the game in world football.

The following year, a new system was created, to get the best out of berbatov. The decision was made to ensure a 30m investment would not be a wasted.
Ferguson was right in a way, because more than one player is necessary in a team that aspire's to dominating in europe, but still, this wasnt necessarily fair to rooney.

The trend in making use of Rooney's versatility has continued since then. He has spent 3 years either playing on the wings, behind the striker, in midfield, and sometimes - not at all! - but never in the role he played the season he scored 33 goals.

as united fans who in fergie we trust, we maybey have to take some responsibility and say that things haven't been totally fair on rooney.

At 27 he is now in the last chance saloon if he wants to be remembered as a legendary footballer. He needs the backing of the club and supporters to do that, and I think he has earnt that chance, by always working hard, and being flexible.

I hope, to be honest, that moyes decides to retain rooney and in fact use him in a more pivotal way. his 2 transfer requests, in my opinion, were born from his desire to fulfill his potential rather than coming from a self absorbed, so and so place. let's get behind this great talent, and help him fulfil his potential.

Agree2 Disagree0

Hope he stays and sorts his head out a fit and motivated Rooney is better than all the players touted at replacing him RvP and Rooney at his best are perfect for each other and don't believe this crap he is past his best he just needs to get his head right train right and we have a strike force second to none

Agree1 Disagree0

Hope he goes. as for english players not featuring much for the national team abroad let's hope gerrard and lamoard follow him overseas

ms85

Agree0 Disagree0

On his day he is one of the most influential footballers on the planet but his 'day' doesn't come often enough. You won't see me crying if he does go.

But to Bayern, I think not. Remember that Pep is taking over this summer, is Rooney a Pep sort of player? I'd argue not, not with Roo's poor 1st touch.

Agree0 Disagree0

For all his problems, on his day he is a game winner, part of the problem is he hasn't had enough quality on the pitch with him. how many times in a game have we seen him play up front, on the wing, then drop into midfield and then in some games he's been the last defender. what other top player anywhere in europe does that? buy some quality midfield renforcements and play him as the second striker otherwise we are wasting a very talented footballer. ps I still don't forgive him for the transfer request saga, s. but while he wears a utd shirt I will support him.
johndenton

Agree0 Disagree0

I would have thought he would go to ligue1 if anywhere tbh, Monaco or PSG.

I'm on the fence on whether I'd be happy or not in him going.
If we could get Lewy, which reports from Dortmund suggest we could, then yes. Otherwise I can't think of many forwards, at least realistic ones, i'd have instead.

Agree0 Disagree0

I can't see him leaving, he's just bee displayed as the centre peice of the new united kit, why would united show him in a united kit on the website and everywhere else that they plan on merchandising if they are going to seel him, pointless if you ask me

Agree0 Disagree0

I git it from horses mouth this is false he`s staying end of

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think being displayed as the centre peice of the new kit will make much difference to be honest. We could be getting the last bit of use out of him before he goes!
In a months time that picture of him in the new kit will be forgotten/replaced very easily. I personally have never liked Rooney much as a person and therefore when he asked to leave the 1st time and wanted to go to city my dislike grew! The fact he got a huge pay rise out of that added fuel to the fire. Up until last season I don't think anyone could argue against his footballing ability but as Fergie suggested last season, that it may be down to fitness, I think Moyes will have to make that call to see if he can get back to form.
If he is replaced by a top quality replacement like Lewandowski then I for one will not be sad to see he leave having apparently asked to leave for a 2nd.
Having seen an idol like Cantona go and success continue I believe replacing Rooney will not be difficult and no player should be deciding/moaning about where he plays!

Apparently Zorc has said that they will not be forced into selling Lewandowski and he will remain at Dortmund until the end of his contract. Fair play to them.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just read that story as well, that surely has to make us favourites if you analyse the situation. If we sign Lewandowski and Thiago (both realistic and won't cost too much) we'll be set for the season. I of course would love Fabregas but would rather have Lewandowski, the only way to get Fabregas and Lewandowski is if we sell Rooney. Thoughts?

Agree0 Disagree0

Broussia dortmund were very angry with bayern the way bayern behaved prior to the champions league final. After what happened with gotze and other attempts to unsettle the dortmund camp in the build up to the game, it seems dortmund are quite intent on selling to a club elsewhere.

The problem of course, ultimately if the player is prepared to wait out the year of his contract, dortmund will have a lot to loose. Probably around 25m.

Without fans behind him lewandowski could also has a lot to loose however, if he chooses to run down his contract. He could have a bad year next season being booed by home fans and could struggle to find form amidst that. It could well be that he dosent even feature for the side if he stays. Going to a new club after a very negative season may not be the same as going somewhere now. So Lewandoski has a lot to loose as well.

In the end I think it will depend who is prepared to call each others bluff more. I still think there is some chance lewandoski won't end up at bayern.

Agree1 Disagree2

Well we'll just have to wait and see then.
DHk

Agree0 Disagree0

He might be looking to go on a free in 2014. I am not convinced United seriously want him. Maybe Chelsea, but again, they have Torres, Ba, Lukaku and Debryne. Jose plays with on striker. So do they really need him? I can only see them moving three strikers out to accommodate him should they wish. Or maybe United can trade Chicha for Ronaldo and buy Lewandoski, but it's a very costly scheme. Thank GOD it's only my fertile imagination folks.

thanks for clarifying that I really needed someone to come on and state the obvious?

Agree0 Disagree0

Jose getting rid of Ba? Okay so they have Torres and Lukaku? We know Mourinho is an admirer and we know Abramovich would be interested after his performances in the CL this year so they've got to be in the running? Especially after Falcao isn't available now.

I'd love Lewandowski but how would he fit in with RvP and Rooney? Seeing as Wayne isn't going anywhere.

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree0

I may get some stick for this but unless we sell rooney (whom I think may stay) and possibly chica then I do not think we can accomidate for him without having to cut back in other needed possitions and run the risk of been to top heavy

Agree0 Disagree0

Ozwald Lewandowski and RVP can easily play beside each other, maybe one of them dropping back a little here and there, but this probably wouldn't be needed if we got the midfield enforcer we need.

Agree0 Disagree0

As much as I rate Lewandowski, where will he and RVP fit if we play a 4-2-3-1, considering we will also have hernandez, welbeck and possibly rooney? and do we have enough talent out wide for a 4-4-2 to accomodate both?

Agree0 Disagree0

Can see Rooney in swap for £20mil cash plus Martinez/Badstuber. We then buy Lev and Thiago and we are all set. Ship out Nani, Valencia, Young and we go for a formation without wingers. Pure posession football with two of the worlds best footballing strikers linking, awesome.

ED002 if you have a minute, does United hold an interest in Lamela of Roma? I see you say something has changed with him on another page and stated an EPL side might be interested.

Thanks in advance. {Ed002's Note - You are paraphrasing rather badly and it is nothing to do with Manchester United.}

Believable5 Unbelievable18

Thanks for the response Ed002, to make it clear I was referring to this you said about Lamela on the LFC site:

"An English club that were interested but stepped away because of the complex ownership and work permit issues, is again looking at the situation. "

Sorry for any confusion, I am not aware of who the previously interested club was - but so long as it's not United it's irrelevant. {Ed002's Note - Right, it is not Manchester United.}

Ed002, I have a question for you that hopefully you can answer. Christian Eriksen is no doubt available for a cheap price, but there is little interest in him. Is it a case of a cheap transfer fee, but he is asking for too much cash himself? Can you explain why there is so little interest in him? If you cannot comment on it then fair enough, but is it a questionable attitude (similar to Hazard pre-Chelsea move) coupled with him asking for too much in personal terms? Thanks.

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - Dortmund, AC Milan, Liverpool, Roma and Spurs remain interested in Eriksen but I would personally not rule out PSG, Arsenal, Manchester City or other previously interested clubs regaining interest in him. He has already rejected any interest from Chelsea. Back in July 2012 the Milan Press Office were convinced of interest from Manchester United and they let it be known that they expected a bid to be made by for Eriksen by them, although it came to nothing. The player remains adamant that he will stay in Amsterdam until the end of next season before moving to Spain but would likely jump at the chance of a move to Real Madrid or Barcelona if the opportunity arises. However, Ajax will not let him run down his contract so a move beckons this summer. The player will see out the rest of the season at Ajax and see if he can attract attention from Spain, or perhaps Italy, whilst now himself courting Dortmund who are certainly interested, PSG and Manchester City as interest from Spain has not arisen. Whilst all of these clubs continue to watch the player, no one has yet come forward with a firm bid but I would suspect there will be one from Dortmund, Milan and PSG - and if Manchester City were to make a bid then they could well be a consideration regardless of the player previously turning them down. He suffers the same issue that previously afflicted Eden Hazard in that he constantly talks to the press about other clubs and seems incapable of answering a question without advocating interest from club x or y. This has made folks nervous of course. Intervention from someone at Chelsea was required to ensure that assurances were given by the player that it would not carry on. Right now I understand that Dortmund and Milan are in the process of putting proposals in place. PSG has an issue to overcome which means that any bid would likely be delayed until later in the window.}

Ed is anyone showing any interest in Matic at the moment? We were linked a while back and Chelsea more recently but heard nothing in the last couple of weeks or so.

Also, who's in the running for Thiago?

Cheers

Twin {Ed002's Note - There is some interest in Matic from a couple of sides - but not Manchester United. There is perhaps a chance that Thiago Alcantara will move in the summer with Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Manchester United likely to be interested - only if he is wanting a move.}

Believable10 Unbelievable0

I don't get what's going through these barcelona players minds.

It was bad enough that they signed alexis sanchez and converted him to a goal poacher. then fabregas they have turned to a holding midfielder.

Now they have signed neymar, and the space for fringe players to actually play noteworthy "attacking" roles at the nou camp is without doubt come to an end.

These players honestly should be jumping at the oppertunity to join man u. With us they would challenge at the highest level and more importantly considering their talent, they could become genuine icons of the generation. Staying at barcelona will mean that the will end their careers as little more than afterthoughts.
The choice seems obvious to me, not just for thiago, but sanchez, fabregas, tello etc too.

Ozzy

Agree0 Disagree0

Sven or Lars Bender or Gundragon would all offer us a higher level of quality in midfield than Strootman. I have searched all the paper, websites and blogs since David Moyes took over from SAF, the only places I have read that we are interested in Strootman is "The Star", "a web site" and "Goal", not the most reliable of sources to say the least. Yet on these pages Strootman is talked about as if he were a 23 year old Scholes or Keane. Arsenal are linked with two top midfielders, City have bought a midfielder, though over-price is still better than Strootman. There are better defensive midfielders to be had, the Benders, Fellaini, Wanyama, even M'Villa. There are better creative midfielder to be had - Eriksen, Gundragon, maybe Tiago, Fabregas so what's the big deal with Strootman? All of Europe's elite are going for top players, whilst we are going for the new Darren Fletcher!

I don't mean to knock the unfortunate Fletch, he was a hard working, honest pro. However, let's be honest players like Fletch and Cleverley wouldn't be even on the bench at Bayern, Real, Barca, even Chelski or City. So the question remains what is the big deal with Strootman? He looks great on YouTube, but who doesn't? He looks decent in the Dutch league and would look good at West Ham or Newcastle, but we need players to replace the likes of Scholes, Keane and Giggs. Don't get ne wrong if he came to OT and was brilliant I'd be happy to eat my words, I just can't see him being good enough though.
