Hello Ed002, may I ask if there's any truth in Benfica's interest in signing Alvaro Fernandez on a permanent deal?
I feel it would be a shame to let him go as I think he's a promising youngster.
{Ed002's Note - Alvaro Carreras (LB/LW) On loan to Granada with his representative offering him around as there is no clear route to first team football at Manchester United. With Benfica offering a firm B squad place and progress based on performance, it is an attractive solution to the player. There has been a discussion with Manchetser United who will be open to a deal if there is a sell on clause and their valuation is matched.}

Thanks for the quick reply Ed002
Have a good weekend!

Young player of the season at Preston but ETH preferred to loan Regullion and then send him back. We plucked him from Real Madrid and like Ed said there is no path or plan. That is not all ETH fault but whilst he has been here the lad has not been given any chance whatsoever, even when there was a left back injury crisis, which looks poor to me. When I watched him he had a nice left foot but wasn’t strong. Hope we don’t regret it.
3.) 12 Jan 2024 22:00:59
He came same time as Garnacheo or thereabouts
So there is a plan
Ultimately if the player is deemed good enough the opportunity is there .
He obviously isn’t .
Garnacheo is showing he potentially can be.
4.) 12 Jan 2024 23:53:54
Chris
Antony was deemed untouchable so who is judging?
Is Fernandez good enough? Maybe, maybe not but Uniteds tradition is to give kids a chance before we make a decision, this lad has not had one. Regullion was given more of a chance and that feels wrong to me. We will find out depending on career the lad has.
5.) 13 Jan 2024 00:06:26
Chris, I think that's slightly unfair. Alvaro is a defender and as such has greater physical demands on him. We are talking teenagers here, lads who haven't fully filled out or stopped growing.
Very few defenders really breakthrough until their early 20's, certainly not in England where football is generally more physical. The ones that do tend to be the ones who are advanced for their age physical, already fully grown and all filled out.
Alvaro is a very talented lad, he's probably better going forward than defending right now. That is just a physical thing, he still has a lot to learn about positioning, and reading the game. But he's still a kid.
I think EtH had a good look at him on the pre-season tour. Whatever he saw on the tour he decided the kid either wasn't ready to play for the first team or isn't suited to play how he wants the team to play.
So they did the sensible thing and sent him out on loan to play regularly at a higher level and continue his development.
He'll either come back a better player and start to push for a place in the squad, or he'll catch someone else's eye and we will sell him if the manager doesn't feel he would be a regular in the first team squad.
Likewise there was never a plan for Garnacho, he just became ready at a time where the squad had a need and we had a manager who'd give him and chance and trust in him.
Same with Mainoo.
No plan, just a bit a good fortune in having a manager who will give youth a chance if he thinks they are ready.

Shappy
Fernandez is apparently going to Benfica if the rumours are right. You know what their scouting is like. Not sure I trust ETH judgement in full given what we have seen. Fernandez has talent and I have said what you said before about his physical side. Watched him for Preston and has a good left foot, smooth player. I am disappointed he didn’t get any sort of look in given our injuries to left back.
7.) 13 Jan 2024 14:45:58
Red Man, I think Portugal would be a perfect place for Fernandez to continue his development. He's a talented lad, so I'm not surprised Benfica are looking at him.
He's great going forward but a little light weight and can be caught out for his defensive positioning. Liga Nos is played at a good technical level, but not as physical. There are some very good managers and he'd likely get a good tactical education there.
As much as I'd want him to play regularly with us, I'm not sure he's quite ready. He can be a bit of a defensive liability, which really isn't something we can cope with right now.
I wouldn't be against selling him to a club like Benfica where he can develop well, but insert a buy-back clause in the agreement.
That way we can raise much needed funds to reinvest elsewhere, but still have the option to bring him back if he flourishes into the player we hope he can become.
The important thing is we don't hoard him away in the under 23's for a year or two, stagnating his development and then letting him go for next to nothing because he doesn't reach his potential.
8.) 13 Jan 2024 22:04:50
If we have a buy back or sell on fee it's a good move for all parties. Have to day he does look like a good player, I always try and watch games for our young loan players and last year he looked good at Preston, granada seems like a wrong loan as he hasn't played much in a struggling team.
9.) 13 Jan 2024 22:30:02
Fernandez won’t be good enough for the level we aspire to reach.
Also Harry Amass in the 18s looks a much better prospect.
10.) 14 Jan 2024 00:10:27
Have to agree with Resman here, go to Deepdale then or so times a year, saw AF play a number of times, he could make it here.
The biggest knocks on him were his engine and getting used to the physicality of the game but he ia a kid and both a things you would expect him to improve. he also lacked a bit of nous that comes with age. Whilst I would have been happy with a loan with a view to him gaining experience to come back, it seems ETH doesn't famcy him.
Don't agree he won't ever be good enough, I think far too many young players get judged far too harshly too early.
This kid is a very modern left back with pace gets up and down with room to put a bit of size on his frame whose biggest knocks are what you would expect from a youngster, losog him may well be a mistake .
11.) 14 Jan 2024 14:04:45
Oakbark I don’t think he’d be sold without input coming from the academy coaches as well.
Give Harry Amass a watch if you can, serious prospect.
12.) 16 Jan 2024 20:35:47
Oakbark, he could and he very well may do yet. No point get worked up over a kid getting a good move. Especially one that is just a loan initially.
Maybe the lad wants to go back to the Iberian peninsula, maybe it's a better place for his development.
Hopefully if he does leave on a permanent deal then the club have some sort of buy back or first refusal option that we could trigger if he develops into a top player in Portugal.
All I know is that he isn't ready to play week in week out in the EPL right now. He also won't be getting ahead of a fully fit Luke Shaw or probably Malacia when he returns either.
So for his development he needs to be somewhere else where he'll get to play regularly right now.

With lecce seemingly wants 40M for dorgu, why don't united try going for kayode (looking likely to join brentford on loan with 16M buy option) or alvaro fernandez (has a relatively cheap buyback clause)
Both are good wingbacks.
1.) 22 Jan 2025 12:41:55
Do we just kidnap them and make them play for us? What’s to say either of them players want to come to United, especially Alvaro who we didn’t want and let go who’s playing well in the champions league?
2.) 22 Jan 2025 14:07:58
I would imagine its the fact he's played on the wing and LB for Lecce which obviously fits with Amorim's system.
3.) 22 Jan 2025 14:11:25
That sounds like a good plan
A good whiff of chloroform, smuggle them into old trafford and point guns at them every week so they'll play for us ?.
4.) 22 Jan 2025 14:17:55
I was just joking btw ?
Just ranting why after all this years united are still demanded a premium prices for any player we showed interest (be it good player or mediocre player? ) While other clubs can buy talent at a reasonable price.
5.) 22 Jan 2025 15:41:16
'Historically' Manchester United have been able to afford the cream of the crop. But 10 years of overspending, new financial restraints and of course a whopping amount of incompetence with salaries, contracts and general tomfoolery has put us in a frankly precarious position. I'm sure other clubs are onto this, but they're also onto the fact that we're desperate and we've done desperate things in recent windows (Casemiro, Antony, Wieghorst) . Hence a teenage fullback no-one apart from his parents had heard of 2 months ago is suddenly worth £30m. Chancers.
6.) 23 Jan 2025 03:30:25
They must rate this guy as the alvaro is much cheaper and straight forward to get given the buy back clause but we are not moving that way. Also just signed the guy from equador so i assume the best we can hope for is seeing alvaro move and get additional fees from the sell on clause. Never seen the danish guy play or actually watched lecce.
29 Jan 2025 08:31:17
We clearly overpaid for dorgu, but at least his reported wage is a good deal.
20 Jun 2024 15:40:09
On the Barcelona Page Ed002 mentions that he's available for €12M.
Anyone know what kind of player he is or is he any good? I've never watched him play tbh.
14 Jun 2024 12:42:16
Would prefer fine mature lady don't we ed ?.
05 Jun 2024 01:26:47
Thanks for the info Ed!
Have a good day.
04 Jun 2024 16:31:35
Does anyone remember who our first choice CB target is? I remember Ed mentions we have Goncalo Inacio, Jarrad Branthwaite, Trevor Chalobah and Antonio Silva as our CB targets but I can't seem to remember who our first choice is.
I think it was Antonio Silva but I could be wrong.
{Ed002's Note - Inacio, Silva (but hugely expensive) or Gleison Bremer.}

Imagine yoro playing RCB and martinez LCB, both good defensively and can play forward passes.
Looking forward to the start of the season already!

Poch or De Zerbi would be an upgrade to ETH in my opinion. Not sure about Mckenna needs to prove himself in the Premier League first.
Any announcement about who the head coach next season should be given next week after the FA Cup final so we can only wait. And maybe hope for a cheeky win.
27 Nov 2023 13:39:34
Nevermind, Mad Hatter is right its a season long loan. Nevertheless I still hope Greenwood will play in Man Utd shirt again.
{Ed077's Note - I don't.
Its going to get a lot of people talking, I mean however the situation gets handled. Opinions will flow, headlines galore.}
