definately seems to be a stronger feeling of togetherness in the squad these past few weeks - I think RA is slowly weeding out the characters he doesn't want around the squad - if Mainoo can commit now at a reasonable wage I think we have then the basis of a team buying into his system, playing for each other going into next season if he can get another 3-4 players he really wants in the summer that will do well in his system then no reason we can't be in and around top 7 which i know is still not great but if we view 7th as a stepping stone to 5th and 5th is a stepping stone to top 4 i think that's the way we have to accept that's our reality ATM.

Not a problem at all, if Mainoo goes, too slow, not athletic enough for RA anyway.

2.) 17 Mar 2025 18:15:19
Disagree that Mainoo can depart. I have watched him closely in games, and as an armchair fan and previous amateur player, I have found myself questioning his positioning, only to see him receive a pass that I had not foreseen.
A lot of players do the basics and do it well, but have minimal capacity in terms of a footballing brain, they are merely a cog, in a sometimes well oiled machine, and other times the cogs fall off and you see the real capabilities of said cogs. With Mainoo, he is more than just a cog in my opinion, he can orchestrate the manner of how we play, he knows when to stop committing and sit back because a play will break down, whereas others will get excited and keep going.
Some are saying this is his lack of fitness and athleticism, again I disagree.

3.) 17 Mar 2025 18:41:58
Jimbob. I think mainoo has brilliant technique and a very good understanding of the game. He has a very high ceiling.
I don't believe any of the reported contract disputes over wages etc .
If the club need to sell him to accelerate and help negotiate through our financial issue then I'd be OK with that.
I don't really question that he can improve his athleticism. Ideally we won't have to sell him but I'm pretty sure that at least 2 of mainoo rashford and garnacho will need to be sold.

4.) 17 Mar 2025 20:47:31
I hope there's no need to sell Mainoo or Garnacho off our own backs. If they want or request to leave then that's a different story.
But hopefully with Rashford, Sancho, Antony, Casemiro, Eriksen, Evans, Lindelof all leaving that's enough to be getting on with.
With a striker top of the shopping list I imagine Zirkzee or Rasmus could well join them as Amad/ Obi are both decent options. In an ideal world we'd keep a few to bulk out the squad but it's a complete reset and we're supplementing with youth players, a handful of whom have already done more to justify spots than their older higher paid counterparts.

5.) 17 Mar 2025 21:12:07
People seem to forget just how good Mainoo was for us and for England not so long ago.

6.) 17 Mar 2025 22:30:14
I'm not sure where or if Mainoo fits into Amorims team but it seems sensible to take another season to find out.

7.) 17 Mar 2025 22:49:52
Salford in not forgetting. He can be a great player. But if he wants a salary we don't want to give and we need to sell him to balance the book's then so be it.
I don't want that to happen nor do I in the case of garnacho but I'm pragmatic enough to understand that they might need to be sacrificed. I really hope not.
It will depend on rashford and if we could possibly shift players like Shaw maguire and dalot who would also generate 100% profit.
Lindelof erikson Evans and Heaton gives decent savings in wages with their squad places going to colleyer heaven mee and obi.
Possibly sell onana Anthony and casimero and sancho whilst taking a minimal loss on the books. I think sancho will be break even. It's 12m for cas 40m for Anthony and 30. For onana to above break even.
Shaw I'm not sure we could sell to anybody. Martinez and mount likewise this summer.
Dalot is an interesting one. He is often linked with clubs. I think if an offer came in due to it being 100% profit he could be sold.
I think the same for garnacho or mainoo if a number was offered the club were happy with I think both could be sold.

i don't watch much European football I couldn't pick Victor Osimhen out of a line up - we seem heavily linked with him anyone got any opinion on him, would he be a good fit for us and which English striker would you say he most closely resembles over last 10 years which would give me a better idea than you tube clips.

1.) 06 Jan 2025 16:03:43
Youtube will make him looks like prime Diego Costa or Didier Drogba.

Think he's more closer to Dominic Calvert Lewin if you watched him for 90 mins for half a season.

2.) 06 Jan 2025 17:19:29
I watched him in a European game for the Turkish club he is on loan at. Very impressed with what I saw, looked quick, runs get him into the right goal scoring areas, good angles, dangerous. I don’t know his attitude, but looked a very dangerous goal scoring forward. He looked far better than Dominic CalvertnLewin to me in the one game I viewed.

3.) 06 Jan 2025 18:28:53
There's someone who looks exactly like him but wears a mask so it can't be him. Though never seen the two in the same room.
Is he the hero we deserve?

4.) 06 Jan 2025 22:07:40
You normally post some good things dodgy but the comparison between Osimhen and DCL is one of the worst shouts I’ve ever seen on this page, and there has been some completion.

5.) 06 Jan 2025 22:28:11
In terms of playing style he's a suitable option. Quick, strong, direct and clinical, while he is technically secure as well.

The big problem is his injury record, he has missed at least 30% of available league minutes every season for the past 4 years.

Given that the EPL is a much more physically demanding league do we want a player who will miss at least 1 in every 4 games due to injury?

That's my real worry.

While the fact that he has twice fallen out with his club (Lille and now Napoli) should also be of concern. Although I confess to not know the ins and outs of the situations and who was to blame. Yet he has been the common denominator, so common sense would suggest that he was at least partially to blame.

The fact that he is a good player, and yet no other top clubs are seriously interested in him and he has had to go to Turkey on loan would also suggest that something has put the other top clubs off. Especially as PSG, Bayern and Barcelona have all kept tabs on him in the past. While those clubs have chosen to sign Kolo Muani, Harry Kane and Lewandowski instead of Osimhen in recent seasons.

If his attitude is good, AND he can stay fit, AND he adapt to the EPL, AND we can get him at a fair price and not outrageous wages (possibly with a large proportion appearance based), then he could be a good signing. However, that's a lot of ifs.

6.) 06 Jan 2025 22:34:56
Let’s be honest a loan of some kind is all we can hope for in Jan.
I know Osimhen has his critics here and Rasmus is young and has potential but he should not be anywhere near being Manchester United’s only out and out no 9.
I would be surprised to get Osimhen but stranger things have happened and like anyone who comes in on loan will be keen to impress. It’d be good to have someone more experienced and effective up front.

7.) 06 Jan 2025 23:09:04
That’s why a loan would be perfect. If he spends all day playing Roblox with Shaw and Mount in sickbay, then that’s enough evidence not to pursue him.
But if we’re a bit morr positive and If he (or anyone else) comes in and busts a gut every game and pushes us up the table for the second half of the season that’s good enough for me.

8.) 07 Jan 2025 03:13:41
He has a crappy attitude though. He had exorbitant wage demands which put both Chelsea and SA clubs off. The only reason he is playing on loan in Turkey now is because he burnt his bridges with Napoli after other clubs turned away from him. He has good ability but thinks he is better than he actually is. I'd love for him to join you lot though since I can see it ending in tears for everyone ;)

9.) 08 Jan 2025 12:52:40
He is nothing at all like Calvert how on earth do you come to that assumption, Calvert is a pussycat Osan is nothing like that.

Ashworth gone by mutual consent -or possibly not reading between the lines.

Come on SJR get a hold of this - seems our lack of data analysis on recruitment before buying has left Jimbo riled up. maybe disappointed it hadnt been addressed.

If we were to sign Yoro who will be under huge media scrutiny from day one then who do we play him with as we don't have an injury free CB partner we can confidently pair the young kid with .

Burrenwayboy

1.) 17 Jul 2024 17:32:25
Got to be licha and him as 1st choice. He was unlucky last year with the injuries, I think he rushed himself back to try and help as we had a lot of cb injuries last year. Still think we will get de ligt aswell.

2.) 17 Jul 2024 18:24:53
Would de ligt leave Bayern or Tar leave champions Bl to sit on the bench at United? Would 70 mill Branthwaite leave Everton if the plan was for him to start off as a squad player? That only leaves the option of 3 at the back or Martinez and Shaw sharing left back - an opinion that got me something like 11 thumbs down last month for even suggesting it.

3.) 17 Jul 2024 20:24:50
Even if de Ligt for example also came in I'd expect all 3 of him/ Martinez/ Yoro to have a comparable amount of Prem starts once injuries/ susp/ rotations are factored in. Yoro is going to have bad games like any teenager, de Ligt is captain material so all swings and roundabouts in my view.
Here's last season's Utd CB starts in the Prem. So our old back-up guy played most, perceived best option least, and interestingly the injury-plagued player we keep hearing about Varane was a game of playing joint most.

Evans (23)
Varane (22)
Maguire (19)
Lindelof (19)
Martinez (11)

4.) 17 Jul 2024 21:13:48
Yep Spenno and no team wins a league or challenges for top 2-3 with those sort of stats- we need 2 CBS each doing 35+ games and the others spread out with the rest - we are no where near a challenge of course but if we don't move towards these stats then we will be hovering around the top 6 with lots of goals goals conceded each game and being inconsistent again.

5.) 17 Jul 2024 22:04:24
Spenno you say MDL, Yoro and Licha would all get similar starts as the stats you listed but actually the lack of consistency at the back was a part of the poor season. Arsenal had the best defence last season and Saliba played 38 PL and Gabriel 36. If Utd want to be up there challenging or in the top 4 then that’s the sort of consistency required. If Licha is past his injury woes, and given MDL is on €300k/ w atm at Bayern and wouldn’t join for much less if not more, then you’d expect both to play 90% of games no?

6.) 17 Jul 2024 23:18:05
Of the 3 defs i would suggest Martinez and de Ligt would be my gut feeling as the strongest pairing but that Yoro would still be starting a lot, certainly enough to be considered more than a back up.
I’d be chuffed with Zirkzee / Yoro / De Ligt / Ugarte / Frimpong. But probably greedy ?.

7.) 18 Jul 2024 07:16:08
I suspect Frimpobg wouldn’t want to start at back up to Dalot though, so if we are selling AWB, I think we’d see a younger Malacia style signing to compete with Dalot.

Not a fan either -but he would come in insist on 2 big centre halves, 2 decent full backs,3 in midfield. maybe 4-4-2 . but we would be a lot more solid and maybe start to look like a well coached team. At this point i'm just Amorim out full stop.

Biggest thing in is favour is he brings a packed lunch everyday apparently, doesn't need a desk and chair quite happy to work from his own laptop from local Starbucks. Obviously Sir Skint said he s the very man we need.

im still lukeward on RA. however it seems he has the backing of the club, it seems SJR and his crew are here longtime so it needs to be a simple case of identifying the players he wants, the ones who suit his style either in the squad or new recruits

So whether its a kid from the academy or a 50 mill player coming that's been indentified once you sit down with the player you say we know you can play the way we want, youve got the skill set but don't sign if you are not willing to play my style, give 100% every training session, every game, if you don't think you can run, fight and compete for every ball for 90 minutes for a full season this isn't the club for you and no amount of salary no luxury car or model girlfriend will turn you into the player i need, but if you can follow me we can win medals together.

he doesn't seem to have a strikers instinct- can't hold the ball up either for a big lad - has no aerial threat either.

Id thank him for getting rid or at least trying to get a decent amount of the wasters out- then wave him goodbye. He can't do the job, end of.

always sceptical of buying players with one good season to their name- understand you have to move fast and take a bit of a gamble but Ferguson of Brighton can't even get in the west ham team as a regular starter -Wharton not playing 90 mins ATM and Dibling has had a decent season - Frimpong i guess you know what you are getting, Osihem the same . not sure we can really gamble that much with the others.

Martinez showed only a few glimpses of his best form this season - after another serious injury I doubt he will get back to his best and wouldn't rely on him - great motivator though with a winners mentality so we will miss that - with our money problems if he can't perform as needed best to move on . that's the reality of the finances now.

I was interested to hear troy deenys take on things yesterday on talksport - never a fan of United but he said Amorim needs a pre season and a couple of buys suitable for what he wants to do- ok that's stating the obvious . but the interesting part was comparing UTD to Crystal Palace- he said Glasner and Amorim are very similar in their style of play but the big difference is e.g Sarr v Garnacho . Sarr said recently Glasner told him no more going out to the touchline you play 10 yards in and you go box to box up one strip of the pitch and that's it- he told Eze exactly the same on the left- as Eze was very central - Now Sarr and Eze are having great seasons and palace are improving -because they have adapted and do plenty of defensive work now and that was Deenys point, if Amorim can get 7 players to play exactly how he wants we will see big improvemnets as he showed with his Sporting team - big question is firstly can players adapt, garnacho, mount, Mainoo were mentioned or can he get the right players in, if he can answer this positively then he thought United could really improve next year .
