No intensity and no runners past Rooney so what does it matter even if he does play well?

Re sly sports:
Ronny won't go to City surely he wouldn't do that to us!!!

Covey

1.) 17 Mar 2015 19:08:49
I honestly don't think he'd care. He loved Sir Alex more than he loved the club. Obviously Manchester United means something to him but if City were able to get him and offer him a deal of a lifetime, there would be no stopping him.

However I don't think he will ever return to England. Probably will end up abroad in a few years time at a rich club who can afford his wages (France, Russia or even the USA).

2.) 17 Mar 2015 20:05:48
This is my view but he is soley about himself, I wouldn't put anything past him especially if Mendes gets in his ear and the £ signs are ticking. This would be his final big payday.

3.) 17 Mar 2015 20:26:46
He is arrogant on the pitch and he has earned the right to be, to an extent. What he needs to do is be happy for the team not just himself while playing the game.
Off the pitch he is a gentleman, a real nice guy, a people person, you can see that with the emotions he shows towards his many adoring fans who he takes time out for.
Would I welcome him back to UTD? Absolutely, after all even with his apparent dodgy knee he still scores goals for fun.

4.) 18 Mar 2015 09:18:26
He won't go to City, I'd be fairly confident of that.

Do you guys think Man United need a sports psychologist? Or do they have one?

Seems to me like some motivation issues need working on, looking at the work rate of our players. Especially when you consider we haven't even played in the CL this year?

Just let them play in the positions they are suppose to play, the game is not that difficult.

What does the future hold for Van Persie?
Seeing as the team is in such a state of transition. Could we see him being replaced next summer?

I just think we lack a striker with pace.

Covey

1.) In my opinion RVP would be moved on at the end of the season (assuming his first half form is the same as the second half) if any other boss was in charge at United. LVG likes him, he likes his character around the club and knows he is a player who will give his all for the coach. I think LVG will keep him on for at least another season.

2.) I would move on RVP, but to be fair we haven't created much this season and I doubt another club would be willing to pay his wages, so he may decide to spend another year and move on a free in 2016. I think LVG will be happy having him in the squad for the rest of his tenure.

3.) Spot on Beast. I agree completely. LVG would be happy to keep him at Old Trafford as long as he is in the dugout.

12 Nov 2014 12:51:29
Beast I doubt we will see free flowing football until the defence is sorted out. LVG has shown he can do that (at the WC), we have to have faith he can do it at United provided injuries don't keep hampering our progress. Win at Arsenal and we could be back in the top 4, we have to accentuate the positives, can you imagine where we would be if the players had your attitude?

Covey

1.) Covey - You must have watched a different Dutch to me at the World Cup.

2.) 12 Nov 2014 17:23:55
To be fair beast they didn't concede much. Not the greatest going forwards but defensively they looked sound.

3.) I agree with that MrE - but the point is it wasn't attacking football, it was negative cagey football relying on one man to break down the opposition, Robben. Our ADM, what we are seeing at Utd is Holland at the World Cup.

4.) 12 Nov 2014 18:18:30
I agree to a point, but at the world cup its a 4 week knock out contest there's only so much you can do in that amount of time.

I also thought they looked good in some of the other games. Costa Rica for example they could have won by 4. The keeper played a blinder that night and they were content to play for pens. They also played pretty well against brazil although after the battering they took in the last game that doesn't count for much.

Hopefully the injuries at the back clear up and we can bring in s stop gap or better in January and let's see how we go.

5.) LvG made what he could of a poor Holland team and finished third, a quite incredible feat. Take a look at what is happening now to Holland under a very good but lesser coach than LvG.
The point being he makes the best of what he has.

6.) Red man - that isn't the point the OP made, he said LVG has proven he can play attacking free flowing football like the World Cup. It was the opposite of that.

Nobody is disputing he did well with a poor-ish crop, same as nobody would dispute Moyes did well at Everton! Can they make the step-up to Man Utd playing attacking football, Moyes couldn't and so far it doesn't look like LVG can.

7.) Beast
Old ground but LvG has had teams winning and playing good football at the highest level for many years , Moyes had not when he came and is why LvG gets more time. Holland played some good football in the world cup but more interesting is that the winning yet rubbish football SAF served up is not berated and at the same time LvG is expected to put years of it right in 11 games.
I hate to think what social media like this would have been like in the 70's and 80' when regular winning was the domain of the Scousers and we sang about winning nothing again as early as February.

8.) I think a lot of people have noted that united never played that attractive football during fergys final years.
Imo he was hampered by the glazers not investing in the squad but he continued winning . I still think winning the title in his final year was one of his best as i don't think it was that good a team .
We have added nearly 300mil of talent in the 18 month since we lifted the cup .

9.) We have been playing a bad brand of football for 3 or 4 years now. As you say Red Man, there is no point going over old ground as we have done it to death in recent weeks.

The fact remains the performances are not what we would expect from Man Utd, there are many reasons for this, some legitimate some fantasy dependent on personal views. I just hope that we start to play as a unit and attack teams again, not play the boring brand of football we have been witnessing for far too long, especially when you consider the talent we have in our team and culture of what Man Utd is all about.

Roll on the Arsenal game, I know the England one will represent the type of thing I am fed up of dedicating my time to watching unfortunately.

10.) Redman

LVG by any measure has had a worse tenure so far compared to Moyes. He is lucky the rest are having their own issues and people made fun of Moyes for buying Fellaini, who looks like our best midfielder suddenly when healthy but no one is talking about why LVG starts RVP every game.

I would rather see rooney up top and mata in the hole if Falcao is not available and have herrera, fellaini, Di Maria and blind on the pitch but his insistence on selecting RVP is what is screwing up our entire set up.

People need to stop making excuses for him he gets paid a lot of money and was given a war chest to spend and needs to earn his pay.

I will argue his insistence to play 3 at the back early season gifted points away and that is him being naive, stubborn and arrogant.

11.) GCU

We all know the difference betwen what the two inherited. Then before using the amount spent comment, new players need time to bed in, last season Fellaini didn't even have to move house.
Circles

12.) GCU

I guess you haven't read my posts asking why LvG is playing RVP? Then, if Fellaini really is our best midfielder that likely explains one reason why we are not doing as well as we might be. He lacks pace and whilst we are using his attributes better he is not the long term answer if we have aspirations for the top. Lastly why has Fellaini done better? Perhaps because LvG is not afraid to play him nearer to his strengths rather than last year when it would have meant criticism.

I have to disagree, the team won in a difficult game where Southampton played their game plan to perfection. I doubt they will play a better 90 mins all season.

I think Zlatan was underlining how much effort it took for him to win us this game, and also giving Southampton the respect they deserve.

No one was injured today, no doubt they all put a decent amount of effort in, but nothing like what Southampton had to put into this game, and they didn't even come out with the win! Our strongest 11 should play as many games as they can, Jose doesn't play Klopp football, there is no high press, and I think you will find many of our players ran a lot less far than their Southampton counterparts.

I see where your coming from but I just don't agree.

No matter who plays I think they would be a downgrade on Shaw, his form before the injury was superb. You know a player was in good form when he even looks good during those 20 min slumps where the play slows down and Shaw would always be there to make a penetrating run and get us going again.

In all honesty I'm extremely disappointed for him and hopefully he can re-capture his form. All of my friends who are fans of other teams all saying how good he is going to be, such a sorry turn of events for the young guy.

Wouldn't like to jump to conclusions but I doubt we would loan him out without 'cover' already pre-arranged.

Wonder who the cover could be.?

he should get 2 seasons like Van Gaal, Moyes is different imo, coming straight after Fergie he was bound to get it.

Too early to categorise TFM as a utility player imho.

All 11 of us would be sent off for assaulting the manager, and not in the opponents dugout.

Do you think Giggs was told to stay sat down? He did stand up last season and maybe even in the earlier poor performances this season. Not saying he's doing his job well. He clearly looks really uncomfortable next to LVG.
