Setting aside money. A romantic return to Sporting? A better chance of domestic silverware plus CL football.

I am amused by the constant “he’s been treated poorly” brigade.

A. If he was doing the business in training, he’d get selected more often.
B. He hasn’t looked anywhere near the standard required when he’s been given chances to show what he can do on the pitch.
C. He gets paid very well and in the one year he’s been with us has probably earned more than most on here will earn in their lifetime.

Treated poorly my.

TFM isn’t good enough for us, not by a long way. He showed promise when he came through but failed to kick on. If he was going to make it with us he’d have made a name for himself at Fulham and/ or Palace. No need to be sad Eric (although appreciate the sentiment) . The lad will find his level (Championship maybe? ), have a good career in the game and retire never having to work beyond his 30’s.

But are the golf courses in Manchester good enough to attract Bale?

Caolan, Scottish football has been a two horse race for longer than most people remember. The last time a team other than Celtic or Rangers won the league, I was just starting school and Sir Alex was their manager. I am now 41 and the rest you know.

Ditto. I’d like to see Mason play tonight. Like Martial he could do with a goal or two to lift his confidence. I think we’ll see one of Amad or Shola start (probably Amad) and hope to see Ethan Galbraith get some game time what with us currently being short of fit first team players in his position.

Interesting post.

DDG has clearly not been as good as he was a few years ago, when he was arguably the best in the world. But does that mean he’s finished?

Dean had a very good season with Sheffield United last season, but does that mean he’s ready?

If it were up to me I’d take the long term approach. We’ve got a lot of players who are yet to peak so going with Dean and letting him grow towards a peak with the likes of Marcus, Mason, etc. is the way I’d go, and hopefully Omit would yield similar results to when Rooney and Ronaldo started to mature together.

The trouble I see is DDG’s wages. Who would pay him what he’s on with us? It will be interesting to see how it pans out.

I don’t get the hype about the “off field” issues. Seriously? What has Jack done that off the field that is so bad versus many of the players we’ve had over the years?

I’ve seen several interviews where he puts himself out there as a down to earth guy who genuinely loves the game. Granted - his accent is annoying as hell but the poor bloke can’t do much about that.

I was sceltical about us signing him last summer, based on him being good but not quite good enough last season, but he’s really taken it up a notch this season and showed he belongs at the top end of the game.

Personally, I’d love it if we signed him. Love it. Keegan love it.

Let’s run a fictional scenario.

In a league of 21 teams and 40 games per team (to keep the %’s simple) .

Team A wins 30 and loses 10. 90 points and a 75% win percentage.
Team B wins 29, draws 3 and loses 8. 90 points and a 72.5%.

As pointed out, Team A have both the highest win percentage and have lost more games (because you equal their points total whilst winning less requires a team to draw three more games than Team A for every extra win Team A have) .

In my opinion, goal difference is the way to go as it encourages attacking play over the course of an entire season.
