Apparently we've contacted Ernesto Valvedere for interim manager providing we don't get our main target for permanent manager now.

1.) 23 Nov 2021 17:32:06
It'll be a new name every day until we do something. The press need clicks.

2.) 23 Nov 2021 17:42:05
Does Ole get taxed on the £7.5million pay-off?

3.) 23 Nov 2021 18:39:23
I can’t see it’s a cash in hand payment ?.

4.) 23 Nov 2021 18:46:42
Give it to Roy Keane. these lot need a kick up the arse. He would pick out the weak ones in a day or 2. Half of them would be scared to put in such performances knowing they had to face him at half time.

5.) 23 Nov 2021 22:29:13
So after banishing Mourinho for being toxic, you’d bring in the master of toxicity Roy Keane.

Wonderful player, good pundit for banter, dreadful manager.

6.) 24 Nov 2021 10:20:30
It's hard to see how someone like Valverde comes in as interim without some option in place to get the job if he hits certain targets.

Eds are you aware of any interest from mufc in Florian Neuhaus of Monchengladbach? Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - No. Florian Neuhaus (CM) There remains significant interest in the Borussia Muenchengladbach player with Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund seeing him as a player who will continue to improve. Real Madrid see him as an option in midfield and his representative has made no secret that there has been interest from elsewhere including Manchester City, Spurs, Juventus and the Milanese clubs, but Milan seems a less likely destination. Borussia Dortmund will push hard for him but they have growing money issues. I am not aware of any approach by Liverpool at this time but he may offer a solution if Wijnaldum were to leave. BD interest will go ith Rose's commitment to not take players from BM.}

1.) 02 Mar 2021 19:52:13
Thanks for the info Ed.

Big game tomorrow, so my question is if we see a repeat of the Liverpool performance then what happens next? Personally I think we won't see a change of manager until at least the end of the season largely because of a lack of available candidates and the club not willing to pay to get a manager from another club.

1.) 05 Nov 2021 12:21:04
Nothing…ole will smile and clap the fans, the players will apologise perfusely and the club will post clips of our wins from 15 years ago. Everyone will then go off on the international break and we will all be expected to forget about it and support the boys when the next game rolls around.

2.) 05 Nov 2021 12:37:02
I don’t understand where you all think the club won’t pay for a manager if right one is available, they not been shy on spending on some rubbish players!

Same as anyone thinking because they give out new contracts there will not be clauses in them allowing to cut short and just pay a fee to terminate, it’s chicken feed compared to money spent on players.

You just seen Tottenham do it and they not got a money tree growing at new ground!

It’s just a very petty argument that makes no sense whatsoever.

3.) 05 Nov 2021 12:47:45
Jens I think my opinion is based on recent trends in the hireing and fireing of managers at our club in terms of when they were fired and going for managers who were available at the time.

4.) 05 Nov 2021 13:14:40
It's the simple fact that the biggest fee the club have ever paid for a manager was the fee paid to Everton which was around 2m as he had a year left on his contact.

They signed LvG due to him being available for free at the end of his contact with the Netherlands.

They signed Jose with no fees due to him being unemployed at the time. Supposedly if they hired him before the end of the season then they would have had to pay something to Chelsea. Thus we saw LvG struggle on for the rest of the season.

We again supposedly approached Spurs about Pochettino when Ole was caretaker, to be told Spurs wanted a significant fee to release Pochettino and allow him to become our manager. The club decided against it and and after a good run from Ole agreed to make him our manager after agreeing to pay Molde 1.4m.

Managers aren't like players and they aren't considered club "assets". They aren't commodities to be bought and sold.

We paid Moyes 5m when we sacked him.

We paid LvG 6m when we sacked him.

We paid Jose 9m when we sacked him.

And we'll have to pay Ole around 7m to sack him.

That's 27m spent to fire managers.

The club are reluctant to spend large fees getting managers who are on long term deals at other clubs as they are acutely aware that they will likely have to spend further millions sacking them at some point down the line.

Supposedly Pochettino isn't settled in Paris, and there are those at PSG who are questioning his appointment already. With rumours that he won't see out the season, or that he has to win the UCL to keep his job.

This alongside the rumours that Pochettino is United's preferred option should they sack Ole.

Yet the club are seemingly happy to persist with Ole in the hope that Pochettino is sacked before they are forced to sack Ole thus negating the club having to pay PSG a fee to get Pochettino.

The fact is if Pochettino was unemployed currently the club would have likely already sacked Ole and be in negotiations with Pochettino.

The fact that they aren't is mostly because they would be expected to pay to get Pochettino.

5.) 05 Nov 2021 13:47:56
My stance at the start of the season was that Ole deserves the season with this squad and if he doesn’t win anything a change would be needed. Unfortunately, Roy Keane was right and these players are throwing Ole under the bus and Ole is out of his depth to change that along with his coaching staff. This is something I didn’t think would happen but it has. So how do you resolve it? Simple solution is replace the manager and that may be sooner than I personally thought or maybe even wanted.

We needed a manager to restore some standards, excitement in this team and get a better squad together and I think Ole has done that. But perhaps, with planning, that should have been his remit in preparation for a more astute manager.

The options now are limited. I guess realistically Zidane or Enrique? Would Rogers leave a very well run club like Leicester? I think he has an ego that would make him strongly consider the job. Appreciate this is Manchester United so you think most managers would but the fact there’s a? on the job now shows where we are. If I had a magic wand then the Ajax manager a long with Van Der Sar and Overmars as a package would be fantastic. But again, do they have egos to take those roles or are they football men who can see the bigger picture and difference in the running of the two clubs?!

6.) 05 Nov 2021 13:55:58
or just maybe the board are standing by their manager as if they did sacked him, they would look pretty stupid after giving him a new contract quite recently.

Why they gave him a new contract was probably down to where the team had finished in previous season plus actually getting to a final rather than just the semi's.

Woodward rarely attends matches, so he probably knows jack about football but what he does know about is finance and increased profits.

7.) 05 Nov 2021 14:00:11
If we get hammered and the pressure and speculation ramps up even higher than after the Lpool game I can see them discreetly sounding Poch out with Zidane ready to step in at PSG. Word is he wants only PSG or the France job

Ramos supposedly unhappy, Messi not firing, Mbappe situation, Neymar being neymar and golden boy Zidane in the wings makes a perfect storm at PSG for Poch to have his doubts about long term future there

Close to a situation now where each game brings critical spotlight on Ole even if we got a draw tomorrow then lose at Villareal that's a mini crisis. dragging on to the final games in the CL . will we get out the group will we not etc etc . eventually something will give.

I thought once he weathered the fallout after the Lpool game he would get until the summer then be gone. not so sure now he will last that long.

8.) 05 Nov 2021 14:47:41
Hearing talk of Poch maybe being sacked during the international break, a lot of PSG fans are unhappy at the performances and the fact they are not dominating games in Europe. Strange comments about Messi being the reason, bit like the Ronaldo comments in the UK. Not sure how concrete the calls for a new manager are, just saw a lot of negativity on Twitter and the media are suggesting he may be gone sooner rather than later.

9.) 05 Nov 2021 15:03:26
Surely if those Rumours about Poch are true, why would some of our fans want him? Some United fans wanting to hire a manager sacked for those reasons replacing a manager fans want sacked for those reasons!

10.) 05 Nov 2021 15:16:04
Small point on Poch and PSG. I read an article the other day that PSG want their players and staff to speak French, apparently it is very important to them, to such an extent it is a written rule. Poch speaks Spanish and English to the players and the players speak the same back. Even MBappe is not speaking French to other players. Small point but Interesting it has seen the light of day at this time.

11.) 05 Nov 2021 15:30:29
I've heard similar things, there's too much disharmony in the squad, so it would make sense to have people one language. I know Mbappe made comments during one international break that he enjoys playing for France because he gets to speak French. Still, can't be bad for him having multilingual skills.

12.) 05 Nov 2021 18:05:46
Red Man. Obviously so important to them. Why else would the club employ so many non french speakers? What an odd situation.

13.) 05 Nov 2021 20:55:44
don

They seem to have a defined identity which they have moved away from to buy mercenaries.

14.) 05 Nov 2021 21:19:04
Ports, Tuchel was sacked by PSG and went on to win the Champions League with Chelsea. That logic doesn’t stand up.

15.) 05 Nov 2021 22:15:47
2toms. Completely different situations and not really the point that was being made.

16.) 06 Nov 2021 11:29:42
PSG are all over the place and it wouldn’t surprise me to see Poch bumped. If the reports about the lack of French are true, then they only have themselves to blame.

Messi hasn’t settled, Mbappe’s future is uncertain and it is a job Zidane wants, and he speaks French and is a French icon.

I would prefer Ten Haag so the question is do we want Poch, or is Ole still here to stay?

19 Mar 2021 10:37:32
Question for all. If you were in charge at Manchester United now what would you do with the Pogba situation, would you look to try and sell him in the summer or would you offer him a new contract?

{Ed077's Note - Sell him. I would have sold him years ago.}

1.) 19 Mar 2021 11:34:58
Offer him a new contract without doubt for a few reasons

1.) he's really good at playing with the football, we still don't have enough players at the club who are in that category, we have plenty who are good without the football, such as Fred, who would be considered world class if football was played without a ball.

2.) He genuinely seems like a good presence in the dressing room, lot of the younger players look up to him due to what he has accomplished in his career.

3.) Replacing him is going to be a tough ask in this window, players like Saul and SMS or even Grealish are going to be hard to get.

The only logical reason to sell would be to cut ties with his agent who can be very abrasive, but the same people who want pogba sold would jump at the chance to sign Haaland who is involved with Raiola anyways.

2.) 19 Mar 2021 12:01:46
DSG, The problem is Pogba doesn't want to stay with us.

3.) 19 Mar 2021 12:10:06
Well if he doesn't want to stay he will leave lol, that goes without saying obviously.

We are not exactly going to hold a gun to his head and force him to put pen to paper.

4.) 19 Mar 2021 12:26:17
Id ask him if he wants to stay if he does i'd offer him a contract in reduced terms. If he wants to leave i'd let him go.
We have held him to his contact this far against his will but he may well look to stay for a year then walk away on a free which would increase his options substantially.

5.) 19 Mar 2021 12:37:32
He wanted to quit for the past few years per Ed002.
The amateurs running the club are holding him against his wish.

6.) 19 Mar 2021 12:45:33
I've always been adamant that he should be sold ASAP. However, unless we are going to get a first team ready creative player in as a replacement then I think it would actually make more sense to keep Pogba next season and let him leave on a free.

I think we could look at a 4222 type formation, with a double pivot shielding the defence and progressing the ball quickly to Bruno and Pogba playing in the inside wide channels, with split strikers of Rashford and Greenwood up front.

7.) 19 Mar 2021 13:55:54
I'd keep him but only if he wants to stay.

8.) 19 Mar 2021 14:45:05
You have it in one utd Road. If he wants to stay and play then offer him a new contract.

9.) 19 Mar 2021 14:52:25
We haven't held him against his will, he signed a contract knowing it was for a lengh of time.

He should honor the paper he signed

But he should have been sold 2 or 3 seasons ago.

{Ed077's Note - he hasnt downed tools, just expressed his desire to leave. So in a way he has honoured the paper he signed.}

10.) 19 Mar 2021 15:27:26
bolger he is honouring his contract and is prepared to.

11.) 19 Mar 2021 16:05:28
I woukd keep him.

12.) 19 Mar 2021 16:51:12
Reportedly PP wants to move on so my instant reaction is sell, but it remains to be seen
a) will anyone stump up for him enough cash,
b) will he want to go to that club
c) will there be a player we can get to replace that will be better, as commercial an asset, who wants to come.
Irregardless of the new appointments the same influences ie woodward/ judge will still hold the cards and I suspect the calculators will be glowing as more than any other window money is the most important factor as a lot don't have any and those who do want to keep it.

13.) 19 Mar 2021 17:06:12
Reports say he wanted away last summer. But who put the money on the table, do we just give him away?
Regardless he has played well this season and imo we look a better team with him in it.

14.) 19 Mar 2021 19:47:10
If we want to win trophies we need a motivated and happy Pogba. He is one of our better players, it's just a shame he has the agent he has that has made things difficult for the relationship by constantly commenting on how he wants to leave and is unhappy.

15.) 20 Mar 2021 00:01:26
Maybe I’m seeing something else but without him we’ve looked average this season. Decent with him! I’d sign him up again if he can be persuaded to stay on.

{Ed0666's Note - if Pogba signs he will could be a revelation. He’s a terrific player when he’s in the mood.

19 Mar 2021 10:31:53
I hope we Draw Granada in the next round so we can play on ITV.

{Ed077's Note - My prediction would be Ajax or Villareal. Arsenal to get Roma.}

1.) 19 Mar 2021 11:10:21
I think we’ll get Villarreal
Arsenal v Ajax.

2.) 19 Mar 2021 11:29:05
Hope we avoid Villarreal to be honest, I don't think we've ever beat them. I remember several 0-0 games against them. A bit of a bogey team.

3.) 19 Mar 2021 11:47:51
I hope we draw Villareal.
We can closely see Pau Torres who is our first choice CB target.

4.) 19 Mar 2021 12:37:53
So its Granada.

08 Mar 2021 20:47:40
A lot of talk about Pep on here lately, but here's a question for everyone. If we had got Pep rather than mourinho in 2016 do you think we would of won the league with him by now?

1.) 08 Mar 2021 20:58:31
Yes I do.

2.) 08 Mar 2021 21:00:48
Absolutely Derby. I would put my money on Pep winning the league in his third season at worst case scenario.

3.) 08 Mar 2021 21:08:11
No imo, the board wouldn't have fully backed him.

Will he or anybody be happy if he was given Fred, Grant and Dalot to bridge the gap at the top?

4.) 08 Mar 2021 21:12:28
If he got his players then absolutely yes. We might slate him as much we want but the guy is one of the best manager.

5.) 08 Mar 2021 22:12:56
Yes, absolutely.

6.) 08 Mar 2021 22:34:40
Absolutely.

I also think he would have improved more players. Don’t forget we beat City to the signings of Maguire, Fred and Sanchez.

7.) 08 Mar 2021 22:39:17
Didn’t he want Fred at City?

8.) 09 Mar 2021 03:08:28
Pep went through a lot of players early on. And had a long time of struggles. Would our fan base have been patient enough? Would the board have backed him? He has a good director of football at city, his guy by all accounts. That was not on the cards at utd I think.

I'm enjoying where this team is going right now, and wouldn't change it for its buts and maybes.

9.) 09 Mar 2021 07:19:17
Id change it for a bag of toffee DB.

10.) 09 Mar 2021 07:32:47
I had to laugh on Sunday when Bruno came off and stood behind Ole looking like he was trying to direct the team. I expect him to manage United as soon as he retires, he will be the next Pep. 2030-2040 Bruno will be winning multiple leagues as Manchester United manager.

11.) 09 Mar 2021 07:37:22
Alternatively, if LVG or Jose had gotten the players they wanted they would have won the league too?!

12.) 09 Mar 2021 08:10:24
Yes, jose was a massive mistake.

13.) 09 Mar 2021 08:12:02
100% without a shadow of a doubt. I’d put my house and wife on it.

I even think he’d win the league with our current squad with just a couple of signings. Our younger players would improve massively under him.

14.) 09 Mar 2021 08:16:47
Pep is a great coach, has proved it in multiple leagues so I have no doubt at all he would have won a league title or two with us. I was screaming for his appointment on here and was devastated when the City announcement was made. Some think I wanted Mourinho, no look back I wanted Pep and only when our useless board missed out on Pep did I say Jose, mainly because missing out on Pep meant City were going to become dominant and they have.

Pep has a way of playing that is consistent, it may get unpicked as we did it on Sunday yet it will be successful nearly ever game and they will win the league again this season. Pep sets out a structure, a proven winning structure and it would have worked for us. I don’t buy this nonsense that it wouldn’t work at OT that is just defensive of where we are.

The only question is whether it would be 22 and looking at 23 if we had gone with Pep instead of Jose and Ole.

15.) 09 Mar 2021 09:58:40
Pep has been hugely successful at City and is arguably the best coach in the world and has been for several years and will likely continue to be for several more.

Yet his dominance at city has as much to do with their set up as it does with his coaching.

They have a DoF who knows Pep very well and who he has an excellent working relationship.

They have owners who are committed to making City THE top side. Owners who not only invest in the squad but in all aspects of the club from the academy, to training facilities, to media and even to the surrounding area.

As such Pep has been able to bring in the players he wants and needs to succeed in the manner he has.

Would he have had that at United? When he asked for Dias, Mahrez, Laporte, Walker, Bernardo Silva etc would Ed Woodward have delivered or would he have got him his 4th or 5th choice? Or the more commercially attractive option?

Would Pep have won a title at United, maybe but if he did he would have had to have done it with one arm tied behind his back.

16.) 09 Mar 2021 10:05:46
Tricky one, Pep has a set way of playing and has spent hundreds millions on getting the players that fit exactly into his system, before he did that they struggled a bit. So would the board have backed him? Would they have spent £250m on full backs when we already had full backs, I’m not sure they would. So then it comes down to whether Pep can win titles with his 3rd choice signings or players that don’t quite fit his system.

We can all agree he’s a better and more accomplished manager that Ole so would probably have done better than him but I don’t think it’s a certainty we would have won the league because there is a good chance we wouldn’t have signed the players he wants for the system he plays.

{Ed077's Note - the club delivered most of the players Ole wanted, so surely Pep would have received similar support from the club. And Pep did lose out on some of the players City have chased like Sanchez, Maguire, Fred,etc..

17.) 09 Mar 2021 10:18:08
Mind you a lot thought jose and his big cv was going to win the league 🤔.

18.) 09 Mar 2021 10:25:05
Jose wouldve won the league had he been backed the way pep was.

I wouldve tsken klopp over pep any day and I doubt Pep wouldve won the same amount of titles with us compared to what he has won with city.

He literally bought two players for each position to win the title and i doubt our club wouldve given him two players for each position.

19.) 09 Mar 2021 11:07:36
So there we have it then Singh, Pep wouldn't have won the league as just like Jose he wouldn't have been backed to do so.

Which begs the question who could win the league without the full backing of the whole club?

20.) 09 Mar 2021 11:48:30
Jose finished second and was given dalot, Fred and grant! How the man did not win the league is beyond me 😂.

21.) 09 Mar 2021 12:16:29
Yes jred you called for and wanted jose. You got him then after 3 finals and our best league finish since sir Alex you moved the goal posts and wanted him fired. Let that be a lesson to you and be careful what you wish for.

22.) 09 Mar 2021 12:35:23
Ken
When we finished 2nd you repeatedly asked me if jose should be fired I told you everytime he definitely shouldn't.
The following sesson it was obvious he was going to get sacked .

I 100% wanted jose I thought he would do well. I'm not going to make any excuses for him, I was wrong . Not all managers work out that's football . And there is nothing wrong with admitting when your wrong,

07 Mar 2021 23:39:27
Very good performance Today, Martial was very good along with Luke Shaw while the team executed the game plan very well. What is frustrating is looking at what could be, looking back over recent results and we've dropped 9 points to four teams we should of been beating and been within 2 points now and that's not even thinking about the games vs Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea were I think if we'd of give it a real go we could of come away with all the points. Overall there is progress and we are probably the 2nd best team in the country at the moment but we could and should be much closer to city. If only we were a little braver in certain games but credit to ole because once again he gets his tactics spot on against pep.

1.) 08 Mar 2021 04:16:38
Agreed. I think the problem is that we lack a plan B. Our results against the top six have been solid since Ole can in with us picking up quite a few wins and rarely getting beaten. Sadly, against a lot of smaller teams we rely far too much on moments of individual brilliance where we should instead be setting up in such a way as to make our superior quality count. Lining up with two holding midfielders against teams who offer very little going forwards is both frustrating and nonsensical and has resulted in us drawing and losing a lot of games that we should have been winning comfortably. It’s negative, overly cautious and boring to watch and is the reason why we’ll finish this season fighting for a place in the top four rather than the title. It’s frustrating, because it’s almost like Ole has mastered the hardest part but is for whatever reason unable to do what most managers could do if places in his position.

2.) 08 Mar 2021 07:40:22
On one hand we think what could have been if we’d won a few more games. On the other hand we expected a battle for the top 4 and some on here said we’d be lucky to finish in the top half.

Luke Shaw was excellent and has been for most of the season now. He’s been our best player imo.

Everyone did well apart from Fred. He takes too many touches and I really have no idea what’s going to happen when he’s in possession.

Still no reason to really focus on negatives after a derby win. City’s winning run is over and that’s thanks to us so let’s enjoy it 👊.

3.) 08 Mar 2021 08:58:32
If we aspire to be the best we need to be able to play and nit just rely on counter attacks. Teams will just sit deep and wait til tjiz current Utd run out of ideas. The better opposition with their shooting boots on will beat us.

We need a plan B and the players to implement it. We are so far behind City because we ate nowhere near good enough to be title winners. don't let yesterdays admittedly hood performance obscure the truth.

4.) 08 Mar 2021 09:41:46
I’m sorry Salford, but I have to disagree with you on that. We were top of the table a month or two ago and had we set up a little more positively in some of the games since then we’d still be there or thereabouts now.

He probably in the future wants to be Madrid's left back to. so we would be better walking away from the deal if he's just waiting for Madrid to buy him back one day. Maybe put time into developing Williams.

This will never happen while Ole is in charge, his main goal is self preservation now so while I agree with all you've said we have a manager who won't risk this, which I suppose is understandable because its easier to take risks when you're successful and winning but I don't think Ole will get to that point with us. when players like Sancho and Van de beek are overlooked for out of form players it leaves little hope for the rest.

Does anyone think this is Barcelona trying to put a bit of pressure on la liga? I could be way off but I still believe we'll see Messi play for Barcelona.

My argument is go back and watch the game again and hopefully you'll be able to see past your hatred for pogba and realise how well he played. I can take or leave pogba tbh sometimes he's brilliant sometimes he's poor. He made 5 or 6 brilliant forward passes won plenty of midfield battles and was involved in everything on top of his great goal.
