Happy new year to all.

Ed001 if you were the manager of manchester united, which players would you sign to make us challenge for the EPL and CL next season?

Thanks in advance.

EL LOCO

{Ed001's Note - Alex Sandro or Ghoulam, Fabinho and Guedes. You are not short of forwards really, just need to give Martial and Rashford more minutes as strikers.}

1.) 01 Jan 2018 13:51:28
would you have fabinho play in midfield or at right back ed?

{Ed001's Note - right back, I don't like him in midfield, but he would provide cover there too.}

2.) 01 Jan 2018 14:16:38
ED001 I agree with about giving Martial and Rashford more minutes as strikers. I think both up top together would terrify defences.

{Ed001's Note - and me. I don't like Martial out wide, his best attribute is his finishing so put him where he can use it.}

3.) 01 Jan 2018 14:27:17
Agree on Ghoulam and Guedes. Would like to see Pereira get more minutes next year. Then we don't need Perisic and William. Don't think we will ever play Martial or Rashford as strikes though. So we going to need another striker to back up Lukaku.

4.) 01 Jan 2018 14:34:15
Would love to see martial get a run at CF.

5.) 01 Jan 2018 19:40:51
Its strange you haven't mentioned Milinkovic-Savic or any other CM Ed001, do you think our current midfield is good enough to compete?

{Ed001's Note - to compete yes, not to win though but I wasn't asked that. The main reason is that I think you need to make only 2-3 changes at a time, imo, as too many incomings disrupts things, so I was limiting it to that. If Milinkovic-Savic was added that would make a huge difference though.}

6.) 01 Jan 2018 19:48:36
Add Milinkovic Savic in there Ed and I’m happy 😃.

{Ed001's Note - I certainly would sign him if possible, but fullbacks have to be the priority and a winger to allow Martial and Rashford to play centrally more often.}

7.) 01 Jan 2018 20:18:16
Agreed Ed. Would love to sign him after sorting out the fullbacks. Problem is that most teams want him so I suppose it’s who can offer him the best package. And where he wants to go too! Dream signing though!

{Ed001's Note - he would be the ideal mid for Jose that is for sure.}

Good day Ed's

Apologies if this has been covered or if its a silly question.

How does a scout manage to find personal info on an interested target for e.g before united signed Dong Fangzhuo how does the agent go about finding out what type of character he is outside of football to ensure that it's aligned to uniteds culture etc.

Thanks in advance.

EL LOCO

{Ed001's Note - it really depends and varies from club to club and scout to scout. In the old days the scouts would watch them in training, go along and meet their families and speak to their friends. These days it is not as easy to speak to the families and friends, though they do still use another old time trick of going to away games and getting in with the fans of that team. Away fans tend to be more of a hardcore bunch than the home fans, they usually have little snippets of stories about the player's behaviour off the pitch.

I know one scout who keeps close ties with night clubs in the area he covers, to find out any incidents of misbehaviour etc.

Mostly in this era though, it is social media mining that provides the data. There are a couple of companies that just sift through social media accounts, both the players and other peoples', looking for information about them. Hence why the homophobic comments from Andre Gray came to light, even though they were made many years ago. It was because he was being checked out by an interested club.}

Thanks for your prompt repsonse Ed.

{Ed001's Note - welcome.}

Hi Ed001,

I hope you've been doing well and enjoying the weather in Spain.

Quick question, are there any players or player you genuinely believe could have been as good if not better than Messi or Ronaldo if they had the same work ethic, drive etc as those two?

Thanks.

EL LOCO

{Ed001's Note - I am not in Spain mate, which is good because they had the coldest and wettest winter for many years there while I was there!

There are loads of players who could have been as good or better. Ravel Morrison springs to mind, for an instance. However they very rarely reach professional level with such a high skill level without the work ethic. I would assume because they are that much better at a young age than all around them, they tend to coast. Odegaard has been nothing but a problem for Real Madrid since they signed him, as another example. If he had knuckled down like Ronaldo did, then he would be in the first team already, he is that good he could have walked into almost any team at 16. He joined Madrid for the money and his career has ground to a halt because of it.}

1.) 01 Mar 2017 22:18:01
Thought he was quality but not sure if I would have rated him that highly.

Hi Ed001 and Ed004

Is Axel Tuanzebe well thought of and does he have a future at Man united?

Thanks in advance.

EL LOCO

{Ed001's Note - sorry I don't know. I have not heard his name mentioned one way or another.}

1.) 20 Jun 2016 22:50:48
Tuanzebes a naturally gifted CB, and better than TFM as a CB, was vital for the Reserves last season. Could have a future with the squad but we'll have to wait and see how Mourinho integrates players from the youth system into the first team, if he even does that that is.

2.) 21 Jun 2016 01:40:26
Should mention wouldve been more vital if not for injury.

Hi Ed001

Do you know of any really good books on how to be a football manager? Preferably a book that goes in depth something that Marcelo Bielsa would opt for.

EL LOCO

{Ed001's Note - I don't know of any to be honest, sorry.}

1.) 02 Jun 2016 16:40:33
Inverting the Pyramid by Jonathon Wilson could be a good point to start learning about tactics, how they evolved and how they are used.

Ed002 is not possible to explain without going into too much detail then? If you unable, thanks a lot I do understand and appreciate your response.

EL LOCO

{Ed002's Note - Whilst the ignorance of the fans is quite frankly astounding, it will simply lead to the trashing of other people the supporters know absolutely nothing about.}

could you please explain to us how it does work Ed002?

EL LOCO

{Ed002's Note - It is best not to as all it will do is give everyone two their people they know nothing about to trash.}

Hi Ed001,

If AM were to drop out of the Champions League group, would it be likely that he leaves in January?

EL LOCO

{Ed001's Note - it is perfectly possible he does anyway. The only reason he stayed in the summer was because Atleti were unable to do a deal for Diego Costa.}

Rock the Red, Blind is a much better centre half than CDM. So i totally disagree with you, I would rather have blind at centre half than Smalling.

Fantastic footballer and lots of people would probably say Zidane is a much better footballer than Scholes although I tend to disagree.

Ed001 you commented a lot on Zidane as a manager i've never read anything from you with regards to Zidane as a footballer, how good was he to you?

EL LOCO

{Ed001's Note - he was a fantastic player, but he was very much about looking good first. He was all too much flash for little actual effect for my taste, though Juve worked hard on trying to sort that aspect of his game out. Very much a galactico type of player, unlike Scholes who was the complete opposite.

By the way, those quotes are pointless at the beginning. Pele also called Butt a world class player and Zidane called Gerrard the best player in the world. They are meaningless soundbites from people who just have to say nice things for the cameras. Scholes was a fantastic player, but quotes from fellow pros are never going to give a full picture.}

If you had to compare Rio at his peak against Vvd, who would you choose Ed001?

EL LOCO

{Ed001's Note - Virgil. Rio switched off at times and is not quite as strong, particularly in the air, as Virgil. That is the difference between the two, as they are (or were in Rio's case) fantastic defenders.}
