Hi all. Eds just wondering if United are mow seriously looking at the young Centre back at Monaco, Axel Disasi, especially considering the news that Maguire will be allowed leave this summer?

Prior searches have us listed as a wildcard option back in early June.

JamesMax

{Ed002's Note - Axel Disasi (CB) West Ham and Spurs had a declared interest last summer but after adding Aguerd in the summer would have ended that and Spurs took Lenglet on loan. Southamption interest will have gone. Newcastle have approached Monaco and declared an interest. After the sale of BB, Monaco will probably not be open to a sale. Wildcards will be Manchester United and Chelsea abut both have preferred options although those are not looking to be possible now. Manchester City and Arsenal interest has likely gone.}

He’s really not very good.
Passes the ball well (as does Maguire) but is also as cumbersome as him. Doesn’t improve the squad.

Don’t get me wrong, I want us to upgrade on Maguire, but there are far FAR better options out there than Disasi.

2.) 10 Jul 2023 16:53:19
They have also been linked with Jean-Clair Todibo.
Never seen him play, has anyone watched him?

Ed thanks for this update, lots going around about Disasi. You mention he wouldn’t be the club’s preferred choice, who is their preferred target and the one they are making the most effort to sign?

{Ed002's Note - RTP.}

Seen both play (admittedly on TV) and neither particularly impressed me. Just have to trust ETH as he is an expert and my knowledge is miniscule. If ETH decides either improves Utd then hopefully that confidence is borne out.

I'm torn on the CB situation. On one hand I don't agree with making "squad" signings. You should only sign players who strengthen the first 11 forcing the current first team player into the squad role. That way you make the team stronger.

On the other hand if either Maguire or Lindelof leave this summer then we will need to replace them, and there probably isn't the budget to sign a better player than Varane/ Martinez. Which in all likelihood would mean signing a 50m+ player.

I'm unsold on both Disasi and Todibo, both good players, but I don't think either are or will be great players. I could be wrong, admittedly I've only seen them both a handful of times. But neither really stood out when I watched them. Considering either would still cost 35-50m then neither are a cheap back up, nor are they better than what we have.

If we can't afford to spend on signing players better than what we have, then I think we need to turn to the scouting department and find a much cheaper alternative maybe from a less heralded league. One of those "worth a punt" type signings where you spend 10-20m and if they work out then it looks like smart business, if not then you'll almost certainly be able to move them on for a similar amount to what you paid.

They are out there, other teams sign them all the time only to sell them on to one of Europe's elite clubs a couple of years later for a massively inflated fee.

I think we may well sit tight on the CB position and ETH will look at Rhys Bennett and Willy Kwambala over pre season.

7.) 11 Jul 2023 11:28:23
I think there are gems out there. Literally no-one had heard of Vidic when Utd signed him and I remember the general feeling towards the signing was a bit meh. Whether we still have the scouting department to unearth these talents I'm not so sure. I mean, I'm not sure what scouts are doing all day if they're not trawling the earth whether in person or using footage to find these players, but it's been a while since we found an 'older' unknown player. Granted it's probably a bit different with kids like Garnacho etc.

8.) 11 Jul 2023 11:34:42
I can't see us buying a defender until, bally and Maguire are gone. The latter not easy as Ed has pointed out, which will probably mean the guys being talked about would have already moved and we may get a surprise name coming in if it happens.

Most clubs will want to sort out majority of any key players moves early in order to have time to get replacements done.

Can see a CM coming in before a CD as Fred and DVD easier to move and will have a number of suitors. Don't believe we will sell Mctominay.

9.) 11 Jul 2023 15:15:57
I think this is fair. Fred feels the easiest to move on as there will be Premier League and overseas interest in him. I’d keep McTominay one more season as a decent squad player - unless someone wants to make a daft offer for him.

I’d say the club ought to be relaxed about the CB position given we are well stocked. Unless Maguire leaves, which there is no guarantee, him and Lindelof are fine back ups.

GK looks like it’s being done - DDG’s ridiculous wages off the books, and selling Henderson offsets the Onana deal somewhat.

The forward situation is the one that needs most attention. Playing with Martial is like playing with 10
Men every week.

10.) 11 Jul 2023 16:47:47
Gonçalo Inacio I’d like but think he maybe left sided if that completely matters.

11.) 12 Jul 2023 08:03:19
Inacio will be a star. Good left footed players are hard to find. Even with Martinez in our squad, I would love to see him at United.

Ork, clubs don't typically comment publicly on their transfer intentions because it weakens their position of negotiation.

You will typically only hear names in the public domain after possibilities have been explored between club officials, agents or third parties, or as you correctly pointed out, agents spreading fluff to generate attention on their clients.

I do see PSG wanting to adopt an alternative approach as their Btech Galacticos project hasn't worked outside of France and with French footballs financial situation being perilous, it makes sense to pivot from their approach.

There may be a degree of desire based bias behind me believing there is something to the Mendes interest.
Amass isn't ready, Malacia isn't at that stage where he can compete, he may not get back (or ever was at IMO) the required level, Shaw is perpetually injured but should be back in the next few weeks (but at what level) . Dalot isn't a LB and the claim he can play there should be tossed out the window with the past season being used as evidence to that case. I'd rather Mazroui play LB but he has been exceptional at RB so

While we have signed Diego Leon, there needs to be more in that position. We can't rely on a 17Yo who has less than a year of senior exp despite how physically ready he may seem.

The club has likely explored options for first team players in the LWB position. Fingers crossed we see a signing either in January or the Summer.

Ork, I don't think the the Mendes story is that unbelievable.

PSG are looking to add more French players to their ranks and Theo Hernandez is supposed of big interest. That shouldn't leave room for Mendes. He's also already played under Amorim at sporting and the pair are said to have a good relationship.

Either that or Alvaro comes back! Please god no to Brandon Williams.

Fingers crossed with an obligation to buy! Simon Stone (T1) tweeted saying they were advancing well so hopefully soon.

Lads it's easy to get caught up here. Ashwort simply didn't fit into the structure or model that the United backroom is shaping into. Better to remove a problem if its not working rather than try remedy an unsolvable problem. This happens in business and happens with players too. The club removed what they perceived as a problem and acted fast. Would you all really have rather they kept on and the discontent bled into other aspects of the club?

This is a prime example of the club can do no right and there will always be a negative view point of how its been handled.

Doubt it would happen. Amorim hasn't had enough time to assess if Zirkzee fits into his plans, it would also leave us lacking more numbers up front. While Zirkzee isn't a striker, he can play as a 10 or false 9 whereas Luiz is a CM. I don't see him leaving Turin where he only recently moved with his partner, Alisha Lehmann.
