I said back in January - if we didn’t sign a striker we would be in serious hot water especially if we got more injuries. Exactly what has happened with Diallo now out. Bruno can’t be expected to score every game, so I will repeat - we are in a relegation scrap!
My only hope is that maybe Obi Martin plays more and hits the ground running like other young players have done in the past. Bizarrely he could end up being our saviour of the season….
1.) 18 Feb 2025 18:38:21
Bruno doesn't score every games, he has 5 goals in 25 games this season and is on penalties.
The only way this team will start scoring is to get more attack minded players onto the pitch.
At the moment with 5 defenders and 2 centre mids and no goalscoring attackers in the squad ( we let our only goalscorer go to Aston villa)
2.) 18 Feb 2025 18:42:55
I agree with the no striker part. But I don’t believe we are in a relegation part. And not because I believe United are too good. Far from it, I can’t see any game where we get a win unless something very lucky happens.
It’s because I don’t see the bottom 3 teams getting enough points to catch us. Sad state none the less.
3.) 18 Feb 2025 19:55:01
Bruno is capable of scoring and is too far from the opposition goal. With Amad out he needs to go back to no.10. Garnacho is a poor finisher. Hojlund doesn't get into position and neither does Zirkzee. Play Collyer with Ugarte. We already have issues progressing the ball. Bruno isn't particularly good at that anyway.
4.) 18 Feb 2025 20:13:08
The wingbacks are there to attack when we are in possession you seen many times against spurs dorgu was there 8/ 10 times for the overlapping pass but as usual these players don’t play the right pass
The issue is not having 5 defenders we created enough chances to win but our lack of composure from bang average forwards is why we don’t score
There are shocking infront of goal.
03 Feb 2025 18:55:46
Said it before not signing a striker in this window is suicide. We are absolutely shocking up top, worst in the league.
The club is the worst I’ve seen it in my 36 years anyway…
Literally any other striker in the prem improves our forward line. I just can’t get my head around why we couldn’t take someone even for 6 months. Putting it down to the board being stingy. Can only assume they have a master plan for the summer window.
Can’t wait to see it….
1.) 03 Feb 2025 20:13:14
I think Ratcliffe and co are a little overconfident. 29 points with no goals in the team is not safe. I am at a complete loss.
2.) 03 Feb 2025 20:35:41
Totally. We’ve got Ipswich next so if they win then the gaps 9 points with 13 games to go, another couple go their way then it’s squeaky bum time but at the wrong end of the table.
3.) 03 Feb 2025 21:11:29
Cool, name those top class strikers who are more or less guaranteed to score goals in the EPL in this side that doesn't create many chances, who were both available and would both cost less than 60m and would join us over other clubs who are probably better placed than us right now?
I'm sure there's loads ?♂️.
4.) 03 Feb 2025 22:03:47
That's the thing Shappy, too many people are still desperately sifting for something precious from the sand between the rock and the hard place.
Bayern weren't prepared to reach an agreement that works for the club, so the decision to step away is absolutely the right one.
I don't see Tel dislodging Solanke as the main man up top for Spurs and I think he will struggle for starts.
Imo, he would be a real risk for United, one that cannot be qualified by a great deal beyond untapped potential - is that not what we already have in Hojlund?
As much as I want a solution to our goalscoring problems, I really don't think the sensible answer is out there for a thoroughly hamstrung club like United.
5.) 04 Feb 2025 04:28:48
Tel is a left winger who likes to come on to his right side and shoot. He is not a striker. Solanke is safe :)
6.) 04 Feb 2025 06:56:32
Ahmad, I agree. Tel wasn’t the answer, but why were we even looking?
We have struggled for goals for the best part of 2 years. So let’s be kind and say that in three windows, needing a top CF, we spent £110m on RH and JZ but baulked at £100m for Kane, failed in three windows to buy a decent CF, so is someone telling us there wasn’t one CF available, anywhere in the world? Is that competent?
7.) 04 Feb 2025 07:10:08
Ork, Tel is very similar to Rashford in how he plays, he's more of a striker than a winger, but when played centrally he doesn't have the strength to hold the ball up and bring others into play.
He never struck me as the kind of player who would come in and make a massive difference for us.
While a loan with no buy option just doesn't make sense to our club. If we are going to play a youngster who needs developing and doesn't quite fit our system then why not play Garnacho and develop our own player rather than develop one for Bayern.
The only player I've seen that might move in January for a reasonable-ish fee who suits the kind of striker we need is Santiago Gimenez from Feyenoord. That said it'd still be a big fee on a player who looks good but not world class, while he's unproven in a top European league.
Realistically he's the kind of player a top European side would sign to act as back up for a world class striker but who maybe had enough potential to possibly challenge for the starting spot.
When what we need is that top class, guaranteed starter, as we have Højlund who we've paid 70m for as a younger striker with potential who can be a back up option while he develops.
There are maybe 4-5 top class strikers around, none of which were available in January, especially to us given both our current position and lack of funds.
While I'm not entirely convinced Victor Osimhen is probably about the best option that we might be able to get in the summer, but he isn't available now.
We need a top class player, with a proven record of scoring in a top level European league, ideally someone between the ages of 24-27 who is entering their peak years. They need to be strong and good in the air, be able to both be a target man and link play, while still having the pace to be a threat in behind.
The reality is that there are maybe 4 or 5 players who meet that criteria, most of which are already at a top club competing for titles and in the UCL. Meaning they won't be looking to join us anytime soon.
Even if we had the cash to splash, who is there? And would they really join us when they will likely also have offers from other top sides who are more ready to compete for major honours right now.
I think a lot of people are hanging their hope on Gyökeres based on the idea that he'll turn down other better placed sides because his former manager is now our manager. Maybe we can get him, but it'll be a long shot and very expensive. Also only one for the summer and not now.
Some people talk about singing a new striker like we can pop down to the nearest Tesco and pick one of dozens off the shelf.
Half of Europe were looking for a striker last summer when we signed Zirkzee. How many of them actually managed to sign a better player than Zirkzee?
It's probably the hardest position to sign a top quality player in right now as there are so few and the competition for those players is very high.
I'm all for people expressing their views on the side, but I do wonder what the point is in complaining about something where they was almost certainly no possible solution to in January.
8.) 04 Feb 2025 09:38:20
Really disappointed and more than a little surprised we haven't been able to address the striker issue in this window.
I agree we didn't want to make another expensive mistake, and that buying the player/ s we actually want permanently in summer is the ideal. But what of the now? League is gone but still two trophies to fight for. Supposedly we're favourites for the Europa - seriously? Winning that gets us in next season's CL. What a carrot that is. Hope the strikers can step up, but I'm not convinced. If anything, they're getting worse.
9.) 04 Feb 2025 10:33:33
You don't even know what club Gimenez plays for Shappy :D.
10.) 04 Feb 2025 19:43:02
Spenno, I am aware that Gimenez moved from Feyenoord to AC Milan on the last day of this window.
What I was saying is that of those strikers who might have been available (clearly he was as he moved clubs) Gimenez was probably the only one who plays the way Amorim wants his strikers to play and wouldn't cost an excessive amount.
The problem is that I'm not convinced he is or will be a top level striker. He's done well in a league that it can be easy to score in, it'd be a bit of a gamble to sign him and expect him to step up the the level we need.
11.) 06 Feb 2025 12:11:08
Err no, you said he played for Feyenoord. Was that worth an essay lol.
25 Jan 2025 09:52:14
Nkunku for me is a no brainer if available. he's a goalscorer! If we don’t sign a striker I feel we are in a real relegation scrap. If god forbid Amad or Bruno get injured and we don’t have another striker in the door we may aswell rely on the goalkeeper for goals! Not really keen on selling to a rival but at this stage I think it’s vital we get a striker in the door, almost at all costs!
1.) 25 Jan 2025 10:26:43
The general perception here appears to be that he is a candidate to room with Shaw and Mount in the injury suite. A tad injury prone apparently.
I do agree with the need for a goal scorer.
2.) 25 Jan 2025 11:13:24
We aren’t in a relegation scrap and it’s unlikely that we will end up being. I’m not sure Nkunku is the answer especially at the prices I am seeing, too risky for a player who’s had injury issues.
3.) 25 Jan 2025 11:28:20
The perception here ha ha ha
Perception of a bunch spanners who know little or nothing about anything football related ha ha ha.
4.) 25 Jan 2025 11:52:38
Let’s buy another player who misses more games than he starts and hasn’t exactly shone when he has played.
5.) 25 Jan 2025 12:17:15
There you go. Ken reverted to type again.
One day all are allowed, by him, their own opinion and he will respect it. The next he regards one as either blind, foolish, stupid or a spanner. Get back on your meds' Ken. So glad that such an ITK chap as yourself is here to keep us educated. I apologise for assuming that you're a 'chap'. It's difficult to know sometimes.
6.) 25 Jan 2025 12:30:46
A 27 year old who's scored over 20 goals in a league only one time. sounds familiar right?
Not exactly prolific is it. Just like rashford. So God knows where you get the idea that Nkunku is a goalscorer.
7.) 25 Jan 2025 12:48:41
Injury problems or not he hasn’t been that great since joining Chelsea. Probably needs a run of games as there was a player in there previously.
8.) 25 Jan 2025 12:49:20
Come on ken, you're better than that mate.
9.) 25 Jan 2025 13:20:56
We may as well keep Rashford than do any stupid deals like this.
10.) 25 Jan 2025 13:57:09
I couldn’t agree more. Signing Nkunku is exactly the kind of move that somebody with no brain would make.
11.) 25 Jan 2025 17:25:07
I think it very much depends on what kind of deal it is and whether he is a player of genuine interest or just a reactionary signing because he's available.
If we sign him on a permanent deal on big wages as a reaction to losing Garnacho with him not previously being considered a player we should target then that sounds like a mistake.
If he is a player the club feel suits the team and the manager and they have tracked him for a long time but didn't think he was a viable target. But he has become available? Then that casts a very different light on it.
Personally if we lose Garnacho then we will need to bring someone in to replace him in January as we already look light in the forward positions. That's without considering Rashford seem highly likely to leave as well.
The problem is that it's difficult to get top targets in January. I like the idea of signing Cunha for example as he seems a good fit for Amorim. Yet the chances Wolves will sell him for anything other than a massively inflated fee in January while they are fighting for their EPL survival seems slim at best.
So do we sign a player who isn't really good enough or just muddle through very short on bodies and quality until the summer? Neither seem like an ideal solution.
Maybe agreeing to take a player like Nkunku on loan until the summer to fill the gap might be the best solution. Ideally without an obligation to buy in the summer.
Nkunku is a very good player who has excelled in a 343/ 3421 system previously in Germany so at least knows how to play in that shape. He has shown himself to be a very good player and an excellent finisher, the downside is his patchy injury record.
Garnacho hasn't really been first choice under Amorim, but rather a good option off the bench. Nkunku would offer at least that, but with potential to be more. Not an awful roll of the dice when we have very few options.
12.) 25 Jan 2025 18:27:16
I advocated for Nkunku a while back but understand the concerns over injuries. I think he suits the system Amorim plays and would fit well.
If it is Garnacho out on full sale with Nkunku coming in on loan for the season and we make a call in the summer then I am good with it.
As happy says we would need to know whether he was a player we have looked at for a while, rumours of us asking to be kept informed go back to December so does feel more concrete.
13.) 25 Jan 2025 18:59:28
Unfortunately, it's a deal that the idiots at utd will most likely to do. I'm just given up even caring niw.
14.) 25 Jan 2025 19:02:14
such a dumb thing to do. I get it if we have to sell because of our financials but garna for nkunku is just plane ridiculous stuff.
15.) 25 Jan 2025 19:34:13
Personally, I'd prefer the dice rolled Felix's way.
One thing we lack is depth in the 'imagination' department. Hojlund is a real grafter with pace and power, but he needs decent service to get the goals tally I consider him capable of.
● We're currently having to frequently make do on the flanks with two RBs who aren't really known for their attacking prowess.
● We have only Fernandes capable of providing consistent creativity in attack.
● Mount, as an option, cannot stay fit and, with that in mind, the suggested swap of Nkunku and Garna is, imo, as daft as jelly because we'd be risking having another resident on the treatment table while shifting one of few players in our squad capable of presenting a different attacking vibe when so required.
Since we bought Mount, we've been consistently linked with players they either don't rate or can't keep fit - Cucurella, Chilwell, now we have Nkunku and Felix.
It would be Felix or nothing for me.
Better with both feet, better vision, far better passing range, more robust and capable of playing up top.
I don't think Garnacho will ever be a CR7, but I'd be fuming if the club mugged themselves, and us, off with another Chelsea player who's about as flimsy as Trump’s sphincter.
Nkunku? The same Nkunku who missed over 3 quarters of last season due to a variety of reasons, including 9 games missed through 'fitness' (wtf? )? The same Nkunku who's gametime has been managed this season to reduce his PL starts to 3 from 18 apps? The same Nkunku with 13 goals in all domestic comps, but with only 2 coming against opposition of better quality than League 1?
Can we afford to carry another player with a need for workload to be managed in such a way?
Chelsea would be laughing like drains if they could select two of our better players while we opt for a second injury-prone player they don't really rate.
Nah, not having that. ?????.
16.) 26 Jan 2025 08:25:28
Ken said collyer wouldn’t even get 100 minutes this season so you really should take his statements as gospel ? I’m just waiting for him to drop in that Amorim wasn’t his choice ?.
17.) 26 Jan 2025 11:30:31
angelred, he isn't.
Ports, you aren't alone ?.
18.) 26 Jan 2025 11:41:10
I gave up when you rated Rasmus! Seriously being a grafter is what gets you to be united number 9 nowadays! I’m not even convinced he is a useful grafter, seems totally clueless to me, waste too much energy rolling around and wrestling instead of intelligent running, he is poor striker I was polite before saying 1 in 4 or 5 finisher in fact reality shows maybe 1 in 10.
16 Jan 2025 13:42:55
The signing of the young Paraguay LB looks a shrewd enough move at £7m, he looks a real good athlete. Hopefully he can be bled into the first team squad next year.
I really think though that RA should be given some help with the signing of a striker even on loan til the end of the year. Understand wages/ PSR but surely we have some cash to play with?! Without a striker I fear our struggles will continue despite any change in attitude from the players.
Anyone heard any reliable rumours of strikers coming?
1.) 16 Jan 2025 15:33:05
Weghorst on loan? LoL.
25 Jan 2025 09:48:25
I agree - I would love to see Mount out there giving 100% because that’s not always guaranteed in a United shirt.
