Pfft turns out SJR is more Sir Jim Royle, than Sir Jim Ratcliffe. Both from Manchester too.

1.) 30 Apr 2023 21:39:55
Absolute nonsense and embarrassing guys doing his best to get control of the club if his control bid is successful it most probably means no one bid enough for an outright sale anyway!

People need to stop with the nonsense SJR is a highly accomplished business man with some of the best advisors in sport and law in the world he isn't going to be conned by or be a puppet of the glazers.

His bid for control is not ideal yes we'd prefer they have no involvement and a full sale but giving them shares which leave them with zero input is better than having the glazers still in control and running the club into the ground.

2.) 30 Apr 2023 23:50:51
From what I understand he has put a bif in for the Glazers full share but is offering them option of keeping 20 percent if it gets him over the line and get a controlling interest of United.

He is doing what he needs, i don't have a preferred bidder, i just have a preference that things change.

The Galzers can do what they want, they own United. I hooe that someone with better interests for United can make an offer that makea them sell.

3.) 01 May 2023 01:15:26
As I said on the other page some of the nonsense being spouted about SJR is very odd, it is clear people want the Qatari’s and anything else is just being spun negatively.

4.) 01 May 2023 03:35:21
No dbrookes it is not the same at all.

This money goes to the glazers. But we also needs billions for stadium, infrastructure, club debts and team investment.

If he is scratching around like this for the cash he should stop pandering to the glazers and enabling them and drop out.

He is bidding using debt. Is not planning to clear the debt on the club. Plenty of fans have made their voice clear on this - sale means full sale, glazers out.

5.) 01 May 2023 06:39:11
Anything that involves any continued ownership of any kind from the Glazers is unacceptable. RATcliffe can’t afford to buy the club and including them in the deal just shows he doesn’t understand the supporters. No to the RAT bid for that reason. If he was successful the toxicity would remain. That is no good for the club at all. It must be Qatar.

6.) 01 May 2023 08:47:47
Ineos as a company makes 10bn+ in profit a year and you honestly think he doesn't have money.

1 the club just isn't worth what the glazers want even Qatar aren't offering it!

2. Most business men don't have access to direct cash it's tied up in companies shares assets

It's fine to want Qatar it's fine to prefer a full sale, it's absolute nonsense to slag SJR for ownership before he owns the club or controls it. he's clearly a shrewd business man it's embarrassing to hear fans slagging him off because he might actually take control off the parasites.

And by the way all reports say he would invest in stadium training ground and squad. if you look at facilities at his other clubs that is exactly what has been done.

7.) 01 May 2023 10:41:52
I’ve no say whatsoever in who ons the club, and everyone’s got a right to their own opinion.

But, we know little about Ratcliffe’s bid and everyone’s writing him off. Ed has told us he’d be a fantastic owner and he knows more than most of us when it comes to the running of a club, especially as more or less everything he’s said about our mess has come true.

On top of that, we have people almost begging for Qatar to take over. I get the investment, and all the other things promised. That’s just early signs of sportswashing. We always talk about city having success due to their state ownership, and in the future it will be Newcastle as well. Personally, I just want the best for the club. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean it will be Qatar. Look at PSG for example.

There will be lots of twists and turns over the next week or so, but we need to wait and see and ultimately try and support whichever party takes over (fingers crossed it gets done! )

8.) 01 May 2023 11:48:36
DBrooks - I’m not convinced you fully understand the objections.

Ratcliffe publicly proclaimed that he wanted to put the Manchester back into Manchester United and some other nonsense about wanting to be the long term custodians on behalf of the fans and the wider community.

In fact his public statement also mentioned a “fan centred approach to ownership”.

By keeping the Glazers involved he’s already violated his own statement and immediately ignored the views of the fans who he so publicly pledged to represent.

Fans are opposed to debt and opposed to the Glazers. If Ratcliffe gets control of the Club both will remain. If he really cared about the fans then he would understand any deal to keep the Glazers at the Club in any capacity is non negotiable.

Calling other Utd fans embarrassing, some of whom have been protesting Glazer ownership for over 18 years just demonstrates an ignorance and lack of understanding. It’s the same miscalculation Ratcliffe appears to be making as well.

Keeping the Glazers in any capacity is not in the best interests of the Club.

9.) 01 May 2023 12:08:23
Dlib I understand the objections I understand we all want the glazers fully out of the club.

But every report of SJRs bid suggests any debt wouldn't be on the club but ineos.

The truth is no one knows what is being offered by either and even your statement above is hating on SJRs bid because the Qatar bid is there.

The fact is it is embarrassing that so many of us can't take what we have heard of each deal individually and compare it to what we have now.

If you actually take each deal on its own basis based on what we've been told the SJR bid for majority ownership is a better by a long way than we currently have.

The toxic fans are comparing the bids against each other like we get a choice rather than comparing them to what we currently have which is what we should be doing so yeah it's embarrassing.

10.) 01 May 2023 12:24:07
I don't think it matters one bit how much and who. What matters is how they take the club forward as the next owners and the structure of things.

To assume because someone is a sheikh that he would do the same as Sheikh Mansour has done for city is being Naive. Night and day difference in mentality between Qatar and UAE.

The only thing fans should concern themselves with is if the deal structure helps the club financially or hurts it in terms of additional debt.

If the new ownership does the right things and runs the club a lot better than what has been there for the last 15 years and the team wins and competes at the highest level, most of the fans care none if glazer have 20% or completely out.

11.) 01 May 2023 13:02:57
DBrooks - We’ll have to agree to disagree mate. If there was no alternative than maybe some may be more sympathetic but there is another bid that gets rid of the Glazers and has promised to clear the debt and invest heavily into the Club.

Ratcliffe has released public statements then contradicted himself. He has championed a fan centred approach to ownership then immediately ignored them. Keeping the Glazers at the Club in any capacity only perpetuates the toxicity and doesn’t allow the Club to move forward and that’s before we’ve even discussed the additional debt. Ratcliffe involvement will actually increase the debt and whether it’s owned by the Club or Ineos that debt will still need to be serviced.

Ahmad - The Glazers protests have nothing to do with the success of the Club. Glazer acquisition led to a hard core minority of fans vowing never to step foot back into Old Trafford and they even formed their own Club FC Utd. Many fans have been protesting since day 1 and never stopped. The green and Gold campaign started in the 09/ 10 season despite unprecedented success on the pitch including three league titles in a row and back to back champions league finals. If the Glazers remain in any capacity then the protests will continue. There is a myth perpetuated by the media and other supporters that the protests are merely disillusioned, spoilt, entitled fans spitting venom and anti Glazer rhetoric because the Club has been starved of success in recent years and any success on the pitch will simply quell the dissent and satisfy an arrogant fan base that somehow believe their success is inherit. This simply isn’t true and anyone will any knowledge of the Club should understand this.

12.) 01 May 2023 13:37:13
DLIB- Qatar aren’t an alternative if they don’t make an acceptable offer.

13.) 01 May 2023 13:40:43
Thanks DLIB. Well put

The Glazers remaining in any capacity at all will be toxic. How anyone claiming to understand the fans would even consider that structure is ridiculous. The Glazer ownership has to be gone fully and completely, no if or buts. Rat cliffes bid allows them to stay even in a reduced capacity, that is disgusting. Get the Glazers out and nothing else is good enough. Ratcliffe can crawl back to his season ticket at Chelsea and never set foot at OT again.

14.) 01 May 2023 13:44:28
Dlib your comparing bids like it's your club and you choose we don't have that luxury.

This isn't SJR Vs Qatar.

It's SJR Vs glazers he's made 2 offers one with glazers gone, one where they hold a small portion to try and profit more from later.

And Qatar Vs the glazers.

If the Qatar bid doesn't win it means Qatar's bid was never big enough to convince them to sell that isn't SJRs problem so the slagging him off is embarrassing.

Stop comparing the bids against each other start comparing them to what we currently have or worse the glazers staying and taking minority investment from a hedge fund.

15.) 01 May 2023 13:46:34
DBrooks, Rathcliffe's potential ownership raises serious red flags. He has not mentioned once that our current debt would be cleared. So the £550 million the club still owes to financial institutions remains if he takes over. The reason this hits harder is because the club has serviced the interests on this debt to the tune of £1.5 billion pound and it still remains near enough to the same figure when the Glazers took over.

This debt is more than a number on a spreadsheet. It represents the noose around the clubs neck for the last 18 years. Every season it gets tighter and tighter as the infrastructure around the club crumbles.

If Sir Jim doesn't recognise this then he hadn't been paying attention. If you're willing to spend 5 billion on a club, this debt should be wiped. A new start, all remnants of the Glazers wiped. My conspiracy theory head might think the debt stays because the institutions we owe that money too are helping Mr Ratcliffe. Maybe he services that debt a little longer?

All the new debt will be put into Ineos apparently. Debt is a bad word around these parts but there is such thing as good debt. Spurs, Arsenal building new stadiums will eventually pay them off and be in a much better situation. Right now if Jim comes in the £550 million is still owed to J. P Morgan. He can't saddle the club with more debt because it can't take anymore so it goes to Ineos. We need a new stadium and training facilities. Where is this money coming from? Red flags everywhere!

As for his "Let's put Manchester back into Manchester United" absolutely embarrassing for a man who was pro brexit and then left for tax free Monaco as soon as it happened.

We have two potential owners. One wants to get straight into the bed the Glazers owned without even changing the sheets and one wants to unburden us from that noose around our neck and give us much needed investment. No much of a choice really.

16.) 01 May 2023 14:54:36
There is so much speculation going here it's impossible to see the wood through the trees.

For example the assumption that the Glazers actually want to sell. Four of them seem to, but two want to stay.

Maybe what SJR is offering is the only way to get control away from them.

It could be a choice between a minority investor and the Glazers still in charge, or SJR as the majority owner and in charge and a couple of the Glazers stick around but with no real power.

17.) 01 May 2023 15:09:53
Thats the thing isn't it, there is no choice, that's solely down to the Glazers.

And it is Qatar vs Ineos, in that they are competing to be the preferred bidder and enter into a exclusive negatiating period with the Glazers.

Both have submitted the bid they think will convince the Glazers to make a deal with them.

I have no idea what the Glazers will do but i am not going to dismiss the resourcefulness and negotiating acumen of Ratcliffe here. Neither would i dismiss the resources of Jassim, although less knowledge of his history and background, clearly lots of money has been made somewhere by the family.

18.) 01 May 2023 15:15:47
Mumbles, I could be very wrong here and if I am I apologise. But, I always thought if the glazers sold, the debts would be repaid as part of the sale?

19.) 01 May 2023 15:36:21
The debt would form part of the deal negotiated by the parties in the takeover. Ie there would be an agreement if party A paid party B X pounds for the club then the debt would be paid off out of that or the debt remained with the club and the new owners would be responsible for it.

I don't think anyone is expecting the Glazers to pay it out their share.

20.) 01 May 2023 15:53:52
Well said Mumbles ? ??.

21.) 01 May 2023 16:45:02
No Caolan, that is NOT the case. The debt is a separate thing, the monies received by the Glazers is for their shareholdings, I doubt they are going to make a parting gift by clearing it as a goodwill gesture!

22.) 01 May 2023 16:46:00
Caolan, I would be under the assumption the debt is attached to the club. If the Glazers sell their shares, the debt remains. I could be wrong though.

23.) 01 May 2023 17:30:45
Your all not listening to me.

For fans it's not a choice it isn't Qatar Vs ineos/ SJR because it's not our choice we get what we are given.

For us who get 0 say it's each perspective deal for control Vs the glazers/ glazers with minority share holders

Be honest if I offered you SJR in charge him investing money in infrastructure the team and him working something with the debt that involves moving it onto ineos rather than man utd or you can have the glazers sell 20% of the club to some asset management firm and bank another 2bn but nothing changes which do you want!?

I'm not saying I care about any buyer for me any deal that takes the glazers out of control is going to be better for the club I think Qatar have enough money to clear everything and I think the SJR/ ineos bids will be much better planned than anyone is giving them credit for, as I said above any debt I expect will be with ineos, and I expect squad and infrastructure investment from them.

The constant comments that SJR is a rat or a glazer puppet are down right insulting pathetic. Acting as if they don't know the business or that they might get hoodwinked by the glazers that is what is embarrassing.

24.) 01 May 2023 19:02:06
Cheers fella’s I wasn’t sure if it was something like a mortgage when you’re selling the house.

25.) 02 May 2023 06:59:44
DBrooks

Anything that results in continuing involvement by any of the Glazers is disgusting. Cut to the chase, two bids and one involves the Glazers having a percentage of the club they may still be able to take dividends on is totally and utterly unacceptable. Or do you think that is ok? Only one bidder is using that model. Frankly that shows how little sunny Jim understands the club support. If he foists that on the club he has ratted on the fans and that makes him a rat.

26.) 02 May 2023 09:11:30
Red man again your thinking of it wrong we don't get a choice between the deals that's the glazers choice so for us it isn't deal a Vs deal b.

It's deal a Vs glazers or glazers with a minority sale

Or deal b Vs glazers or glazers with a minority sale

As we are stuck with what we get we need to focus on each deal individually not against each other and ask if we prefer it to what we currently have or worse against the glazers with minority investors from an asset management firm.

27.) 02 May 2023 09:21:21
Unfortunately no one knows the detail and all conjecture. People can have their views but the glazers own the club and as rightful owners can decide to evaluate two bids based on what each party values the club and decide a way forward.

If you go by what is being reported the Qatari bid is lower and has a promise to invest in the club but not binding so that also can be horse manure. Having done business in Qatar, I can tell you one thing they go back on signed agreements and default without a blink of an eye so breaking a promise is like nothing for them.

Going by what I have read about SJR and people who know the man or have dealt with him, he sounds super professional and whether the glazers stay in as minority or out with him taking control, I would have more faith in him running the club professionally than how PSG is ran for example which is a joke and circus.

I get the hatred for the glazers but be careful with what you wish for as last thing we need is a another fiasco in new ownership.

28.) 02 May 2023 16:06:10
The supposed takeover/ sale of the club is a complex matter and tbf unknown to most of the contibutors of this page regarding actual facts at this stage. A lot of info can be considered as media guesswork with only those who need to know, knowledgable as to the state of the talks/ procedures.
Personally, I doubt anyone becomes a billionaire by being "nice" and each candidate will have their own game plan and again not all the fans will like it so I will just wait till stuff is announced before connecting emotionally but there is one thing for sure, I am convinced that the glazers should go and stay out of club business.

As the transfer window opens, speculation and players united are linked with just expands like a mid 40 year old waist line 😀

I'd love to ask everyone, which player united were linked with but never got over the line, are you most pleased it never happened?

I was cock a hoop, united never signed Sheffield Wednesday legend David Hirst. Back in the big Ron era, united were always linked with him, he scored some belters but the guy was like a Tiger tank.

sean longstaff- say no more.

2.) 11 Jun 2021 11:36:27
Ronaldinho.

3.) 11 Jun 2021 11:37:05
Willian and Eric Dier.

4.) 11 Jun 2021 11:46:55
100% agree on willian and dier DSG.

5.) 11 Jun 2021 12:06:14
I think last season we were linked with Maitland-Niles. And I agree with Willian.

6.) 11 Jun 2021 12:32:15
There are plenty here are a few I can remember
Keith Andrews Blackburn
Glen Hysen before he went to Liverpool
Gaitan
Josh King.

7.) 11 Jun 2021 13:52:01
Whilst I would actually have been pleased to see him join in his hey day, surely no post about us being linked to players should ever be without Wesley Sneijder.

8.) 11 Jun 2021 15:19:34
Mangala, Nicolas Pepe, Nasri.

9.) 11 Jun 2021 18:10:34
William Carvalho.

10.) 11 Jun 2021 19:02:02
too many to mention.

11.) 11 Jun 2021 22:23:17
Harry Winks.

12.) 12 Jun 2021 00:02:47
Gaitan.

13.) 12 Jun 2021 10:44:45
Batistuta, awful player. Only joking, would have been an amazing signing.

Definitely glad we didn’t get Dier.

14.) 12 Jun 2021 11:04:02
How can anybody be pleased we didn't sign Ronaldinho. Without doubt the most exciting player ever to play the game. Character is questionable, but I'd have loved to see him ripping it up in Manchester.

My second post of the day.

Can anyone else think of an apt quote from football to make light of last nights game?

I'm reminded of the Brian Clough quote

'On paper we put a good team out, unfortunately the game was played on grass'

27 May 2021 12:39:51
Afternoon folks,

I hope everyone has had the time to digest last night?
I don't post much, mainly because debate is stifled and I'm not one for calling out people just because they don't agree with my opinions.
I do use the match day forum, and in the main it's all good banter.
I think everyone here makes valid and worthwhile posts.

Now I think last nights game, was a microcosm of Oles tenure. Good in parts, overall there's something missing. Or at many times baffling decision making.
Yes I understand it's been a long season, almost 2 seasons without much of a break for the players. However it's down to Ole to manage that, use the squad, rotate. Ole may not have much faith beyond the first 11, but again he's been there 2years.

In game, Oleball makes it difficult to make changes! We set up to break quickly, with only 4 players on the pitch at any one time with license to get forward.
Oleball a concept of 6 out field players defending, and 4 attackers. Against a low block, Oleball is futile, it serves up dull and slow play. Last night Bailly passed to Lindelof and back, must have happened 20-30 times.
Have we progressed? Last year Sevilla, well organised Spanish opposition knocked us out in the semis, this year Villarreal by no means mugs, well managed, with a clear game plan, were too clever.
EPL, admittedly more points, but style or play almost everytime teams employ a low block we struggle, depending how you judge progress. I say perhaps we have improved points but learned very little.

While I expect Ole to remain in charge, without a change in coaching ie fresh ideas I expect new players but the same Oleball tactics, which in the big games will have similar outcomes to the last 2 years.
Ole won't win us premier leagues, or cups. But we will do enough, enough to remain in post.
Oleball and the current coaches are a fine example of group thinking, devoid of openness and afraid of fresh thinking.

1.) 27 May 2021 13:12:02
Yep big clubs all trying to effect positive change. But we will stick with the dumb one.

2.) 27 May 2021 15:44:54
OGS was never good enough to take us to where we want to be- steadied the ship and rolled with the punches imo but who takes his place if he is moved on?
poch back to spurs, allegri -juve, zz to psg, nagelsman bayern. don't have a clue personally.

20 Apr 2021 23:06:31
With Mister Ed, up a creek!
The super league now a five a side, kick about, with headers and volleys for the first half and two touch for the second half.
United likely to be penalised worse than a football equivalent to papillion.
How can this get any more absurd?
Gerald Ratner to replace Ed Woodward?
Elvis to return to sing at Ed's leaving do?
Maybe now is the right time for Michael Knighton to make a triumphant return to save Manchester United.
Listen We get what we deserve! Our owners have royally 'done' over football.
Right now we need solidarity as fans.

Eventually we will need to stick by a manager, last year ETH did remarkable.
I always thought it might be more difficult this season, but we have green shoots of optimism.
The question shouldn’t really be is ETH good enough for united, it should be are we good enough to wait for him to be good.

Although not great quality, we only had those cheap market footballs, those that after a kick around developed a bulge, then you saw skill.

Got free tickets through working for NHS, nice tickets, went with family of the missus. They are all owls, from Sheffield, they don’t get the Maguire hatred.
The section booing were the section singing the IRA songs throughout the match. Embarrassing really with my 10 year old, was the missus first football match. Luckily we all had dinner in the Bobby Moore lounge, padded seats.

I agree Redman.
No doubt McGinn would be a upgrade on our current midfield incumbents. But likely to be expensive, clearly not utilising RRs knowledge or skills.

United have huge structural issues based on fairytales, the olden days and legends. It defies logic, at least football logic.
I see RR being sidelined in favour of a mystical search of the managerial equivalent of the holy grail.

Makes a great show though, the United soap opera.
