Morning ED002, hope you are well.

Now that MUFC have resolved (for now) their managerial issues as well as the sporting director problem, are there any changes to our transfer targets going forward? I know a number of targets where managerial dependant from your previous updates.

Separately (and please accept my apologies if this has been sent previously, I've just had a search and can't find anything recent) do we have any plans to upgrade the winger position? It seems we have two players with untenable situations at the club (Sancho and Greenwood) one who is not up to scratch (Anthony) and one who's future at the club is very much up in the air (Rashford) . It seems a lot to put on the shoulders of Garnacho so I'm hoping the club have some targets in mind.

RedRosie

{Ed002's Note - No. The new staff would have had an input. If you search for RW or LW you will find a list of targetted wingers.}

1.) 03 Jul 2024 12:44:42
Thanks Ed002, found it with a bit of trial and error thank you. Looks to be a list of very difficult to obtain targets! Enjoy your week.

Hi Ed002, who is the youngster Manchester United were speaking to yesterday you referenced on the European pages please?

RedRosie

{Ed002's Note - It is the same player I have mentioned before. Isaac Lihadji (RW) kiddie from Marseille who is attracting interest of several sides - had not been interested in joining MU but the club has persisted and has spoken with Marseille to see if something can be done to appease the player and pay compensation.}

Hi Ed002, do you know which attacking targets we are showing interest in at the moment?

RedRosie

{Ed002's Note - It is as I have previously said.}

07 Mar 2019 22:24:30
Ed002 is joao felix well thought of as a player? Can't say I know much about him but would love to get some insight.

RedRosie

{Ed002's Note - Yes he is very well thought of, but the asking price is well beyond unrealistic.}

1.) 08 Mar 2019 18:52:52
I’ve never seen him play either but hear such great things.

Anyone know where he would fit into the team? Competition for Lingard?

2.) 08 Mar 2019 21:11:59
I've seen him a few times. He would be best in a free role either wide or behind the strikers similar to where/ how Lingard plays but with more cutting edge going forward and less work defensively.

However, in no way is this lad ready for the EPL. He makes Angel Gomes look like a bouncer. He needs another couple of years in Portugal to fill out and develop further.

3.) 09 Mar 2019 13:06:57
Thanks mate.

14 Jun 2018 14:08:06
Who remembers a few years back when Ed002 said Chelsea had backed away from interest Griezmann because he talks too much to the media? Looks like he was right, airing his 'decision' tonight. Ridiculous stuff.

RedRosie

1.) 14 Jun 2018 14:53:35
Might be an unpopular opinion, especially with the football traditionalists, but this stuff doesn't bother me at all. It's the way the sport is going, it's the way some American sports have been for a while. What a player does on social media, on TV doesn't affect what he does on the pitch.

He's a massive basketball fan, he's doing what LeBron James did 8 years ago and just as every NBA team would have been better with LBJ every football team would be better with Griezmann.

2.) 14 Jun 2018 16:53:17
Lebron James is arguably the greatest basketball player of all time and is at least in the discussion with Jordan and he was a free agent. If Messi were a free agent right now I'd be fine with it. Griezmann is a very good player who isn't a generational talent - he hasn't earned the ego.

3.) 14 Jun 2018 16:54:10
Seem to recall hazard chose to announce on twitter that he was joining Chelsea and not 1 of the Manchester clubs.

4.) 14 Jun 2018 20:59:21
Griezmann stays.

5.) 14 Jun 2018 21:08:14
Talented player but glad he's staying he's nothing but a self-obsessed dickhead.

6.) 14 Jun 2018 21:10:15
He annoys me tbh a very good player but like the above post touches on not nearly good enough to warrant this kind of nonsense.

7.) 14 Jun 2018 21:49:14
Well after that farce he looks like an ever bigger prick. Glad he's staying.

8.) 14 Jun 2018 22:22:51
Tell us how you really feel though Dave 😂.

Ed001 you probably are expecting this question - do you know much about Yoro? I've not watched a minute of him so no idea what we are getting and hoping he is a good fit.

RedRosie

{Ed001's Note - he is very good on the ball but a little lacking defensively, however for an 18 year old it is very good. Normally it takes a lot longer to develop the positional sense etc, but he is well ahead of the normal curve. At least he was in the games I saw, you have to qualify that by remembering he was playing in Ligue 1, which is not the strongest. So the quality of attacker he was facing is not the same level as he will be up against. I did like the look of him though, I even mentioned him to a friend yesterday as one of the better options around, but unfortunately not truly left-sided (as we were talking about who we would want Liverpool to sign as a long-term replacement for van Dijk). He did look to have the pace and power to cope with the Prem as well, which is important for a team looking to push their defensive line higher.}

1.) 17 Jul 2024 11:37:38
Well that's about as glowing a review as I could have hoped for! Let's hope he develops well here, they haven't got it all right so far but the new brass seem to be doing the transfer window part of their job right.

2.) 17 Jul 2024 14:30:08
Thanks, Ed. Always appreciate your input.

Do you think that he’s good enough to be a starting CB for a top four club, and do you think he’s a better prospect than the young lad at Everton?

{Ed001's Note - tough one, it does depend on the club and the way they play. I would look at it as he is an improvement on what you had for the right sided centre-back slot. If Martinez is fit alongside him, I would have no worries about him playing. The worry is if he has to play alongside someone like Lindelof.

As for the comparison to Branthwaite, it is a very difficult one to make. There is a large age difference, as the growth between 18 and 22 can be remarkable. However, you don't know how it will affect them, as he could suffer with growth spurts which affect his balance and mobility while his body adjusts. On paper, he should be a better prospect though, with those 4 years left to him to mature and gain experience. Plus, from what I have seen, he has a quicker burst than Branthwaite, who lacks the quick acceleration that could see him caught out if playing further up the pitch than he does at Everton. Not overall pace I am talking about, but that ability to get up to speed quickly, as players tend to have very similar top speeds. The thing that sets quick players (in terms of usefulness on the football pitch) apart from the slower ones, other than anticipation, is the explosiveness of their acceleration. You look at someone like van Dijk, for example, and he is quickly up to speed, while someone like Maguire needs a fair bit of a run up to build up a head of steam. Defenders rarely have the same level of acceleration as forwards, in general, but I thought it was noticeable with Branthwaite. He is not slow, but he can be caught out. Something which experience should teach him to cover for, but it could be a problem in a high line initially until he adjusts. Everton play deep, so he is not often getting caught out, nor is he having to even consider it in his positioning.}

3.) 17 Jul 2024 15:52:15
Ed001 the only way Maguire get's up to top speed is if he is launched from an aircraft carrier by the firing mechanism!
Thanks for the analysis, I really think he looks the business. Have to say will only believe it is happening when the club officially announce it. It's the hope that will kill you!

{Ed001's Note - he looks like he will be a great signing, if it goes through ok. The big worry with a youngster like that is that they can have a tendency to think they have made it and slacken off a bit. But he dreams of Madrid, so he has to keep knuckling down and working to get them to want him.}

4.) 17 Jul 2024 16:47:56
McGuire asks for at least a 2 week invitation to get up to top speed.

5.) 17 Jul 2024 18:00:59
He could just lean his head forward and the natural momentum would get him to top speed in no time!

6.) 17 Jul 2024 21:05:15
ED001,

If the deal goes through, then another way of looking at it, is Madrid may come back at a later date offering a lot of money to purchase Yoro. Which in my opinion will likely happen.

Perhaps it isn't the best way to think as a fan, but realistically it will be a probable outcome in the future.

{Ed001's Note - if they do that, then you will make enough to buy a good replacement and probably another player too.}

7.) 17 Jul 2024 21:56:14
You never know ed by the time Madrid come back united might be in a place where the player doesn't want to leave.

{Ed001's Note - that is always a possibility.}

12 Jun 2024 14:37:56
Ed002 you mentioned before a player who would leave unless tge manager was replaced, now that we know Ten Hag is to stay can you let us know who the player we can expect to leave is?

RedRosie

{Ed002's Note - It is no consequence any longer - he will be leaving with a number of others.}

1.) 12 Jun 2024 15:03:33
I think Ed might have mentioned that was Varane?

2.) 12 Jun 2024 15:28:05
Great. This group of players have been able to outlast managers for too long. You're either in or you're out.

3.) 12 Jun 2024 16:12:28
Hopefully nearly all of them will go.

4.) 12 Jun 2024 16:13:37
It was not Varrane. The club decided on that one. I heard all is not well with rash and eth even though he plays him. Watch that space.

Mainoo and Garnacho are very close to ETH and him staying will be good for them and development.

I think ericsen, dvb, hanibal, pellistri, greenwood and sancho need to go for sure. The sad thing about it is we really are not going to miss anything but cameo minutes from Ericksen. The rest are emergency recruits and contributed very little or nothing in some cases last year.

We go into every summer thinking this must be the end of the line for so many players in this squad but come out with most or all still there. let's hope Inoes can manage the outs as that will be a breath of fresh air.

5.) 12 Jun 2024 17:22:01
I would take Ten Hag staying every day of the week and twice on a Sunday if it ment getting rid of Rashford. He’s one which gets played no matter what and i’m tired of it.

6.) 12 Jun 2024 19:17:44
Won us the cup with that cross field pass to Garnacho! Which may have saved ETH! So sorry you’re so tired of him!

7.) 12 Jun 2024 19:56:21
Ahmad, I hope you’re right about Rashford. It’s known that he doesn’t get on with some players, and he’s one who has been consistent in downing tools for several managers.

He also had a personal issue which caused a rift in his family / circle. I’m the first to support the local lads especially from Wythenshawe, but it’s time for him to go.

The problem will be finding a buyer, and that’s why I think he’ll still be here on 1st September.

8.) 12 Jun 2024 19:59:16
I take your inside info with a pinch of salt as well ahmad.

Ten Hag wants Benni Mccarthy to get a new contract.

9.) 12 Jun 2024 20:17:31
Sorry Patrick but he didn’t and I’m with Gnev2 on this.

10.) 12 Jun 2024 21:08:32
Gnev

Benni is gone. Press writing all kinds of bs when it comes to united. now they are inventing stories to try and save face on some of their Previous reports which is far from the facts on many things.

11.) 12 Jun 2024 21:28:08
I find the media coverage of United appalling. Within hours and all the following day after announcing we were sticking with EtH, taking Sky an example, I am presented with articles such us 'Are Man United right to keep ten Hag? ', 'Does ten Hag deserve a new contract? ', The numbers show ten Hag has plenty to do' (err yeah we know) . Not to mention the Lineker/ Shearer debacle within ten minutes of lifting the FA Cup.
What other club or manager is treated like this?
I'm actually looking forward to the new season! Feel like I've been through the wringer this last season. Imagine how Erik feels.

12.) 13 Jun 2024 07:09:36
100% Spenno. Journalists in the UK are a disgrace. I’d love to see the whole industry quashed and started again with the very few who actually have some respect and empathy.

Unfortunately ETH is going to have to get them on-side whether he likes it or not, because the pitchforks will be out as soon as we lose a couple.

13.) 13 Jun 2024 09:02:21
Get that Shaw Rashford axis going again BR and we’ll see!

14.) 13 Jun 2024 09:14:46
It will have been Sancho.

15.) 13 Jun 2024 09:17:08
When we read that 'the same players have thrown x managers under the bus' the common denominators across most managers this decade have been Rashy and Shaw. Both pretty outspoken and Shaw in particular has been maligned by at least Mourinho. But I don't personally see EtH being anything but unfair with his players. Sancho got everything and more before being outcast which is all they can ask for surely. Arguably Rashy should have been given a few months to sort out some things. Maybe he was offered but declined.

16.) 13 Jun 2024 14:02:48
Spenno, I don't think it's a case of players intentionally throwing a manager under the bus.

I don't think they decide they aren't going to play for the manager or stop trying. Obviously there might be the odd individual who does that, but for the most part I'd expect professional pride to be too much for them to intentionally not try in games. Everyone on this site wanted to be a professional footballer, yet very few actually make it. It tends to be the most competitive ones, that drive is what makes them do the extra training, to push themselves and make the sacrifices needed to make it.

People who are that competitive find it very hard to not try their best.

My view is that the players have unintentionally thrown the manager under the bus by not having the mentality needed. For the most part all of our players have players have played well at times under all our managers. They tend to do well when the goings good. New manager, positivity around the club and less pressure and suddenly they play well.

Then the expectations increase, they've had a good start under the manager and now comes the expectation for them to take the next step. To start competing, and even winning things. Performances come under more scrutiny, dropped points and poor performances get more attention and are hyped up to be a bigger deal. As that pressure increases the players ability to perform decreases.

Especially when the press smell blood and the situation becomes incredibly tense, the pressure is massive.

That's when all form goes out the window and the players buckle. Then the manager is sacked and it's said the players have thrown the manager under the bus, they stopped playing for him or that he "lost" the dressing room.

I'm not sure that quite accurate, I think it's more a case that they can't deal with the pressure, that plays on their minds and they struggle to play to their full ability because of that.

Rangnick looked to hire a sports psychologist to work with the players as he found them to be mentally weak.

It's the pressure they can't stand, not the manager.

17.) 14 Jun 2024 05:42:49
Professional pride Shappy? Give me a break. Half the squad was injured up until a few days before the cup final. That’s not professional pride. They’re fakers a lot of them.

23 Jun 2023 16:24:15
Hi Ed001 - interested to hear what you think of Onana? I've been watching youtube highlights (as we all know the best way to evaluate a player. ) and he seems confident and comfortable with the ball at his feet which is key these days until tactics inevitably shift as they always do. Huge 'but' coming - the amount of times he would save the ball but knock it back in to a dangerous area was crazy for a 10 minute video. Would be a huge concern to me. He was also guilty of claiming a cross or shot but then letting the ball bounce - another worry for me. Positioning seems good at least. Have you seen much of him?

RedRosie

{Ed001's Note - I think you have picked him up very well from the video to be honest from what I have seen of him. He is suited to playing a high line, good with the ball at his feet and sweeping up, positionally sound but dodgy. He does just parry the ball back into danger, which always worries me. I would put him as second tier, like de Gea now, but of a different type and a type that would suit the way you play much better. So a step up. However, I think there are better options out there in the shape of Maignan.}

1.) 23 Jun 2023 16:47:32
Yes that's probably fair - second tier but offers something we need to allow us to play the way Ten-Hag wants to play I suppose. I think we've discussed Maignan before and are in agreement. What about the kid at Porto? He looks very good - perhaps not as confident with his feet (a few floaters to fullbacks) but looks more commanding than Onana. I am pleased at least that we do seem to have made the decision to move on from De Gea, it's certainly time in my opinion.

2.) 23 Jun 2023 23:00:56
Maignan for me every day of the week. Great shot stopper and comfortable with the ball at his feet. Just what we need.

3.) 23 Jun 2023 23:21:48
I’d take Raya over Onana. Costa is too big a gamble at the price being discussed and we can’t afford that outlay right now.

We all know DDG will sign a new deal whilst we improve more urgent areas like midfield and striker.

We all knew this was a 3 year project for ten Hag - plenty more work and windows to come before he gets the team he wants.

4.) 24 Jun 2023 15:30:19
Speaking of dodgy blooper reels, I saw one along the lines of 'when playing out from the back goes wrong' which featured Brentford and Raya a bit. He's one of the GKs everyone likes right?

28 Sep 2020 10:39:51
Hi Ed002, is it still possible for MUFC to meet the fee that Dortmund want for Sancho in this window or are we now past the point at which Dortmund would accept an offer?

RedRosie

{Ed002's Note - It would be down to Dortmund to decide.}

1.) 28 Sep 2020 11:08:44
Get the feeling that Ed and Matt are going to look very stupid very soon. amateur hour is upon us i think. let's hope they've read the situation correctly!

2.) 28 Sep 2020 11:32:31
I hope they don't accept, the more pressure on Woodward and Judges shoulders the better at this point. And when the team fails this season they will be in the sh it.

{Ed047's Note - I like what you did at the end there Dan! 🤣

10 Jul 2020 10:48:31
We've had Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool fans in here on the windup since we started playing well - they are rattled boys let's keep it up!

RedRosie

1.) 10 Jul 2020 11:32:10
Absolutely, I love it.

2.) 10 Jul 2020 12:46:22
RedRosie That's what I've been saying and I'm loving it, very excited about next season, I'm not saying we are going to be champions but if we keep this form we are getting closer to Liverpool and City, 2 more Bruno signings (quality wise) and we could hit more nerves lol.

3.) 10 Jul 2020 12:47:51
Btw the Amateur one gets it right, He knows the Utd way, good thing we got rid of the "parking the bus" one, I couldn't stand him anymore.

Spot on Scholesy - I believe they scour this site and then present Ed002's info as their own with a bit of story around it to present it as their own. I know because that's how I used to do my homework in school. I called them out on it years ago when they were just on reddit and they essentially made the claim that they know Ed002 and Ed002 is/ was providing the info directly to them which I'd be very surprised if that were true (only one person who can confirm or deny that though! ) .

"And of course the player needs convincing. " - I still struggle to process this - surely sounding out the agent to see if the player actually wants to play for us should be step 1 on the *transfer flow chart (*not a literal chart) . If he's not interested then move on to the next player on the list*! (*hopefully a literal list) .

You're not wrong Ed but to be fair Nunez trying to launch a chair into the crowd or Bentancur throwing a bottle (which hit a Uruguayan in the head and cut him open) hardly helps their case in the reporting of that happened!

RedRosie

{Ed001's Note - I don't have a problem with them mentioning those things, as part of a balanced report, but there is no balance. The BBC report is a hit piece which basically made it sound like Nunez had waded in to attack Colombian fans for no reason. Personally I think Nunez's response is mild when you consider he has small children in danger.}
