ETH gone, lots of journeys confining on Twitter.

I was really optimistic when he joined us - and thought he’d bring a good style of play.
It hasn’t worked out for him - we replace players with new players that don’t seem to perform - whilst the players that leave have a revival at their new club.
We’re 14th in the league and the table doesn’t lie- I wish him well and that the club gets the next decision right.
Hopefully we don’t wait till the end of the season to replace him.

2.) 28 Oct 2024 12:42:03
Yes jacko it promised plenty but never materialised.
Like you I'm hopeful we can get our permanent new manager in well before the season ends.
I hope now that the black cloud that's been removed that's been hanging around for too long we can restore some sort of attack minded football.
The right leader in place will see significant and sustainable improvement quickly imo. I hope so anyway.

Xavi Simons being mentioned as a target. I haven't seen much of him apart from the Euros but he struck me as very similar to Martial with his body language, always frowning and sulking.

Redpaul

{Ed002's Note - Xavi Simons (CM/AM) PSG will talk to the player and assure him of game time and tell him he is not for sale. Barcelona would like him back but would need to persuade PSG to take players in exchange or accept an initial loan - that is not going to happen. Manchester City see him as another potential de Bruyne replacement. Bayern Munich has agreed personal terms with Simons' representatives but the club are a light year away in terms of valuation and will need to talk to PSG with the possibility of a player being used as part of a deal. Else they will look to a loan with an obligation to buy at the end of next season - and I can't see PSG being open to that. A wildcard could be Chelsea if PSG continue to press for a Chelsea player. Manchester United has a declared interest but may not be something the player wants given the situation with Bayern Munich. RBL would like another loan. Bayern certainly have the edge if he is to be sold.}

1.) 22 Jul 2024 10:26:22
He's a talented player no doubt, but there is something about him that just puts me off him.

The faces he pulls, and his on pitch attitude doesn't portray a mentally strong individual. He sulks, he pours, he whinges and complains. When things get tough he often goes into hiding.

Maybe he's just an emotional guy who struggles to keep those emotions in check. Although that would also be mental weaknesses. Nothing wrong with having strong emotions and feeling them, but you can't let them control your behaviour or your mentality.

From what I've seen of Xavi Simons he looks like a phenomenal talent when things are going your way, but he doesn't come across as a player I'd want lining up alongside me when things get tough. He isn't going to get in the trenches with you and knuckle down.

That's fine if you are a club that is full of top quality players, and you are rarely ever playing on the back foot or having to dig yourself out of a hole.

Yet that isn't where we are now. We lack strong characters, we need more leaders. Which is why I won't be worried if we don't go after Xavi Simons. I just don't think he's what we need right now.

Sounds like Yoro is on his way for a medical.

Big Willy off to Villarreal. Must mean at least 2 centre backs coming in if either Maguire or Lindelof also go.

1.) 13 Jul 2024 08:30:21
Does anyone know if any young CBs from youth teams good enough to get a squad place?

2.) 13 Jul 2024 08:48:57
Buy back clause too. Good move if he wants game time. A bit of a fee (everything is needed right now) and the ability to buy back if he is smashing it. good stuff.

3.) 13 Jul 2024 09:10:53
Romano just reported fee off around 10m euros permanent move with buy back clause. I think we are definitely buying two cb's by the looks of it and one of harry or lindelof will go once we secure deals. That will give us 4 Cb's with Evans being the stop gap as a fifth. Hope that's enough and not a repeat of last year and probably need someone from the youth team to provide minutes.

4.) 13 Jul 2024 09:38:20
Disappointed to see him leave but with the players rumoured to be coming in he probably sees his chances next year as being limited. Likely would have gone out on loan this year if we had not needed to use him last year but now has had a taste for first team wants more of it.
Bit like Mengi needed a bit more time to develop but will be a good player as Mengi has shown this year.

Glad we have got buy back option

Definitely 2 CBs coming in and Maguire likely to stay. Gives us a good group of 5 with Evans, Martines plus 2 new.

5.) 13 Jul 2024 10:37:57
I like the guy but not sure he was good enough to be honest.
Did a good job when called upon but for me didn’t look as good as Axel or Mengi, who both weren’t good enough when at Utd.

Good luck to him.

6.) 13 Jul 2024 10:52:57
It's always sad to see a talented young academy lad leave. Yet he needs to play regularly if he is the achieve his full potential.

The club seems to be doing much smarter business this summer, selling young players who might struggle for game time, but inserting buy-back clauses means we still have the option to bring them back if they reach their full potential. While adding more money to the kitty in the short term will help dig us out of the financial hole we find ourselves in.

I didn't have Kambwala down as a player we could see leave this summer. Maybe a loan deal, but not a permanent move.

Maybe the new owners are cleaning house in defence. We've made bids for Branthwaite, MdL and Yoro, with the general consensus being that it'd be two of those three signed.

Yet maybe it's a case of looking to bring in all three. From our current options the only two CB's we can be sure will be staying are Martinez and Evans (after signing a new one year deal) . Varane has left, Kambwala is heading out the door, we've offered Lindelof as part exchange so can safely assume he'll be leaving, while there is no certainty over Maguire. I suspect if a club slapped 40m on the table the club would bite their hand off. We did accept a bid for him last summer after all.

With Kambwala leaving Yoro does make a little more sense. We could go into next season with CB options of Martinez, Branthwaite, MdL, Yoro and Evans. Which is starting to look like a defence befitting of a top club. Really good players, with a great range of ages.

Could it be that the club are looking to build from the back, get the defence sorted this summer. Maybe focus on the midfield next summer, and the forward line the year after? That would be a sensible, logical plan. We have also been linked with a few full backs as well this summer. Hancko, Kerkez, Ferdi Kadioglu and Rayan Aït-Nouri have all been linked at LB. While Kayode is the most linked RB, although I've heard whispers of a potential loan with an obligation to buy for Sacha Boey from Bayern Munich being discussed during talks for MdL. Supposedly the club see him as a good back up option if AWB leaves, while Bayern feels he hasn't worked out with them and are looking to recoup their investment.

7.) 13 Jul 2024 11:15:17
Apparently turned down a new contract with one year left in search of game time and maybe more money at this time. It's a pity because the time and money come if you are good enough. Would have liked to had him for one more season but he can't complain if we are going for players of even better quality.
I think lindelof might be off too so hopefully yoro agrees. Might even leave space for Branthwaite. lindelof Kambwala out, two out of De Light, Yoro, Brainthwaite in. Pretty good upgrading but they will need time to settle.

8.) 13 Jul 2024 11:21:53
We will not be getting Branthwaite and Yoro. Slim chance we get Yoro anyway. Willy leaving means one of Lindelof or McGuire are staying and we have a smaller spending budget.

9.) 13 Jul 2024 11:27:16
How about Harry and Lindelof both go and we bring in MDL, JB and Yoro.

10.) 13 Jul 2024 12:14:28
We are definitely only getting 2 new CBs. If we need a 3rd I think we would look cheap end.

Yoro is a potential generational talent that makes sense to go for. Otherwise I think it is definitely de ligt/ Branthwaite.

11.) 13 Jul 2024 13:15:19
Cannot see Maguire going, with both MdL and Licha's injury history might be better he stays.

12.) 13 Jul 2024 16:02:45
Cannot just bring in Yoro and De Ligt both are right sided and we'd be in the same mess again if licha got injured.

Needs to be 1 of Yoro/ De Ligt and a left sided defender Branthwaite would be the best option as he can cover both sides.

If we sell Kambwala, Maguire and Lindelof we could bring in all 3 but I'm not sure that happens.

We have to get cover for licha we cannot be stuck changing our tactics because we're stuck with Maguire again next season.

13.) 13 Jul 2024 16:30:37
With Everton selling Onana to Villa, they won’t sell Branthwaite too. Yoro will go to Real.
Our CB options (in order) next season will be:

1. Martinez
2. De Ligt
3. Maguire
4. Shaw
5. Evans.

14.) 13 Jul 2024 18:44:09
Spending north of £150m to buy 3 CB’s doesn’t seem likely.

15.) 13 Jul 2024 19:51:02
Fuser if that is the greatest area of concern, why not?
Is there an area of the team that need more attention than CBs? I'd argue we should reset the deck and buy those 3 if possible.

16.) 14 Jul 2024 02:04:28
we spent north of 80 for a donkey!

17.) 14 Jul 2024 07:20:57
Is Willy actually that good? I think if he was, he’d have been given a new deal and assurances of playing time. The fact we’re actively working on deals for 3 CBs, and have extended Evans, suggests there was not a massive amount of faith in his ability to step up a level.

18.) 14 Jul 2024 08:03:49
Agreed Eric, was hardly knocking on the door.
If we didn't have the injuries last season, would be of had a breakout season? I severely doubt it.

19.) 14 Jul 2024 08:55:54
Very little chance of Yoro joining in my opinion. He wants Real Madrid and at the very least he wants to be playing every week. Well that’s what’s being reported. Can’t see him joining United to be backup.
(But the report of him wanting playing time doesn’t stack up with wanting Madrid, he would be getting on the pitch that much there for a while) .

If it was down to me I’d stay clear of Yoro anyway. Bringing in players that aren’t really that interested in the move never works out well.

I’d also agree with the above, JB won’t be joining. Everton probably don’t need to sell and won’t budge on their crazy valuation. And does JB really want to join to be backup to Martinez? It was reported this week (could be nonsense) that United won’t go above £50m for any one player. So that would rule JB out.

I would imagine MDL might be the only addition this summer at CB. Which will likely mean Evans and Maguire starting a lot more games than anybody would like.

20.) 14 Jul 2024 11:20:17
Fuser, last summer didn't Liverpool spend something similar on signing 4 midfielders (Mac Alister, Szoboszlai, Gravenberch and Endo)?

If it's the area you feel needs totally rebuilding then why not?

Most people within football tend to agree that you start building a team from the defence out. I wouldn't be surprised if this summer United mostly focused on the defence, then next summer mostly focus on the midfield. Before looking at the forward line the following summer (with Højlund and Zirkzee signed recently, along with young prospects like Garnacho and Amad, maybe this is an area we can afford to wait on and see how those players develop) .

21.) 14 Jul 2024 11:34:17
Shame he's going but from his perspective if he can see us being linked to every CB on two legs I'm not surprised.
I personally think we'll only get 1 of the 3 we've been talking to. Yoro doesn't feel like it's going to happen, Real tend to get what they want one way or the other. Maybe back onto one of the Portuguese pair we've been linked with?

22.) 14 Jul 2024 12:06:53
Shappy, Liverpool didn’t have massive FFP issues like Utd does to start, they also didn’t need an entire new squad like United either and both Henderson and Fabinho (for good fees) left a little unexpectedly which meant a big overhaul. I don’t know how close to the bread line United are but it would take summer spend to £200m including Zirkhzee. Would also mean keeping all current midfield options of Casemiro, McTominay and Erickson no?

If that’s what the board want to do, ie do it in stages fair play but I don’t see it working that well.

23.) 14 Jul 2024 12:32:24
Spenno, the club needs to sign at least two CB's this summer and are doing all they can to sign them by the looks of it.

Unfortunately options are limited when it comes to finding players who are good enough, available, and willing to join us.

Todibo has been ruled out. He was one of the few options that looked reasonably priced. While Yoro has his heart set on Madrid.

MdL looks like it'll probably happen, a surprise option that has oddly become available for a reasonable price and the player is willing to drop his wages.

Branthwaite will cost between 60-65m but then the alternatives aren't that much cheaper in all fairness.

Antonio Silva will cost at least the same if not more from Benfica, while he has no EPL experience. Making him more of a gamble.

Inacio or Diomande from Sporting will both cost 50-55m each, both have exceled in a back three system, and like Silva they don't have EPL experience making them more of a gamble.

In the EPL players like Kilman have moved to West Ham for 40m, if that was to a club like United to Chelsea then you'd expect that fee to be a little higher due to top clubs tax. That sets the bar for what above average players will cost.

Marc Guehi is probably the only other one available from within the EPL who looks good enough. He's having a good international tournament with England and with Palace already selling Olise for a big fee they don't have any need to sell. I'd imagine he'd cost 50m at a bare minimum, more likely 55-60m.

Beyond Guehi, Silva, Inacio and Diomande who out there is good enough and available?

I don't see anyone, so if we don't pay the price for Branthwaite or the marginally smaller price for one of the alternatives then the only option left is to drop down. A level and sign players like Chalobah or Hancko for 35-40m. Which to me seems like madness. Why spend so much on players who ultimately aren't good enough and will just need replacing down the line, when for 10-15m more we can just buy a good enough option right now.

24.) 14 Jul 2024 14:37:49
I think Yoro deal is us chancing our arm.

I’d expect MDL and Branthwaite to both join instead.

14 Aug 2022 17:33:23
Sky reporting United could be about to terminate Ronaldo's contract if he doesn't change his attitude.
I could think of a few others should join him.

Redpaul

1.) 14 Aug 2022 18:22:17
If they terminated players contracts for lack of application and a poor attitude we wouldn't have enough players to name a squad. United pr spin to blame ronaldo, who has been poor bit not all his fault is it. Eth, mccclaren etc will be next just watch.

2.) 14 Aug 2022 18:32:46
Good. For someone who is supposedly loves our club and credits it with the player he WAS he can’t even go to the fans who travelled to what that sh*t. Wants to jump ship rather than help the club. Would be best all round to cut ties and hopefully sends a message to the squad but I doubt it.

3.) 14 Aug 2022 19:51:05
Ronaldo is full of s*** always was and always will be. There’s one thing that matters in his life and that’s him. Get rid of his ego once and for all.

4.) 14 Aug 2022 20:10:08
Couldn't agree more, probably in truth cost ole his job. Went from counterattack that actually worked to this utter mess.

5.) 15 Aug 2022 08:48:04
if he wants out then terminating his contract is playing into his hands. let him rot in the reserves.

6.) 15 Aug 2022 10:49:39
LOL. Let him rot in the reserves, that says it all ant… and that really won’t cause a huge circus round the club will it! Where is the mentor some.
Why I don’t condone his behaviour I can very well understand it, when you sit in that changing room and look around at what’s there, he must think Jesus this is really bad! And a long long project I’ve got couple of years left and this club going nowhere in that time.
And when he sees what is being bought in he must think this is 5 years project!

Hermoso and Rabiot on frees anyone?
We all know the rebuild can't be done in a single window due to money constraints so these two make perfect sense.

Redpaul

1.) 09 Aug 2024 19:56:52
Rabiot would be a quality signing, free or otherwise. Not too familiar with Hermoso.

2.) 09 Aug 2024 20:00:30
Right now I’d take them both. Would have preferred better and signed earlier in the window but we have our hands tied due to the idiots who were running the show for the many previous transfer windows and the wages handed out.

3.) 09 Aug 2024 20:36:31
Is that a plan A, B or Z?

4.) 09 Aug 2024 22:43:45
Short memories on here . Everyone complaining that the players we are looking at no being sexy enough. People seem to forget the henning bergs, oles, parks etc. This club wasn't built on big names, was built on the right characters .
I've seen day in, day out on here for years saying that the right backroom staff will be trusted, time to put money in mouths vicinity.

5.) 09 Aug 2024 22:46:19
Rabiot feels very sensible right now over paying fees we cannot afford.

Forget Hermoso and sign Branthwaite.

6.) 10 Aug 2024 10:58:54
Both seem like sensible options that should be considered.

They could either be seen as additional options to round out the squad or as short term alternatives to main targets enabling funds to be focused on one more expensive first choice signing.

Both offer top level experience and quality for a minimal outlay. They both raise the floor of the squad giving us higher quality in squad depth and both look more suited to playing a progressive style of play than some of our current squad players (Lindelof, Maguire, McTominay) .

This summer might be more about laying the foundations rather than serious rebuilding. Reshaping the squad to be more suited to playing how we want to play and giving it an identity. Selling/ moving on as many players who aren't suitable and bringing in players who are, even if long term they are good squad players rather than top quality first choice options.

Rome wasn't built in a day, and we have repeatedly been told by SJR that this is a long term project and will take 3 or more years.

We need to rebuild the entire squad, and that has to start from the ground up. Clear away what is not good enough, have a clear idea about what we want to be/ look like, then lay foundations to support that.

Only once that is done can you really start to rebuild the first team.

I like the signings of Yoro and Zirkzee, they both suit a more progressive style of play and are long term not short term options.

Neither have been bought to make a huge difference this season (although they might make a difference), they have been bought to grow into the side as it develops and evolves.

I'd expect similar type signings for the rest of this summer and next summer. Where the club invests the majority of their money on players who are 23 or under and who can grow into the side, mixed with either cheap (relatively) or free signings that are 25-29 years old who can improve squad depth and help give the squad a clearer playing identity.

7.) 10 Aug 2024 11:52:37
2 of the best free / bosman type signings in recent years have been milner and matip. Both were brilliant for Liverpool.
I would not turn my nose up at these 2 mentioned rabiot and hermoso both are better than most of the players on our books in their positions.

02 May 2024 06:22:08
Fantastic performance last night from Sancho, the kid was full of confidence and taking the full back on at every opportunity.
Surely a win-win situation for United if he can keep it up for the next few weeks as he may hit it off with a new manager or can put himself in the shop window for other clubs.

Redpaul

1.) 02 May 2024 06:51:07
Redpaul

Interesting, one of the observations from the commentators was that up to recently, he had slowed down and was more negative looking to go backwards after his period at Utd, but now is starting to be like he used to be. I watched last night and he was excellent, trying to get behind his fullback, what we the fans wanted him to do here, however, everything Antony doesn’t do. It seems obvious Sancho was given tactical instruction that negated his effectiveness. That does not excuse what he did. Still good to see him have such a good game and MOM.

2.) 02 May 2024 08:20:42
Look. If we get a new manager and if both parties want to give it another crack, then he solves a huge problem area in the squad. Young, English player, who we clearly haven’t seen the best of - but who in that squad have we seen the best of under ten Hag? Maybe Dalot?

So many judgmental people in society these days, execution by social media with such binary views. Throw him away, get rid etc. it’s all pretty gross. If it’s Tuchel, the way he plays his wide men at Bayern, Sancho could he a useful addition back to the squad, and could be an exciting option for us.

We are getting a reputation for being the graveyard of footballers, destroying careers. Rehabilitating a reinstated Sancho could be a good shout for our club, and on the pitch too.

Couldn’t care less if he hated ETH, by all accounts he’s a pain in the ass. None of us work well when we don’t like our leaders at work.

3.) 02 May 2024 08:31:21
It seems sancho has got his mojo back so it makes you think what potential talent MU have at present in strikers Rashford, Garnacho, Greenwood, Hojlund, Sancho possibly as good as you get in the premier or Europe.
Zero cost to MU in transfer market over the next five plus or more years for strikers if individuals had been managed properly!

4.) 02 May 2024 08:50:16
Hopefully they sign him permanently off the back of it.

5.) 02 May 2024 08:59:15
Pleased for him. He has gone through a tough time. Nice to see him happy and enjoying his football.
Nice to play with freedom and be allowed express himself.
Brilliant home support too.

6.) 02 May 2024 09:25:08
Nice to see a wide player run a full back. Ours seem instructed to pass back and inside, if you don’t you get taken off. Refreshing last night to see forward passing by midfield players, wide players attacking full backs on both sides and forwards attacking the ball. We don’t see it at OT at the moment, it’s not in the process.

7.) 02 May 2024 09:41:02
Supposedly the most amount of dribbling (whatever that means) by half-time than in any of his 58 Utd appearances. Maybe a new-found confidence, not that he seemed lacking in that area.
The Chelsea loanee at Lb Maatsen looks decent, could he be an option? He's Dutch so I'm amazed his name hasn't come up.

8.) 02 May 2024 09:53:25
The most predictable thing that was going to happen today was people coming on her to praise Sancho and use it as another negative towards ETH. If Sancho can do what he did last night, he's the sort of character I do not want at the club. Hopefully Dortmund will put their hand in their pockets now and stump up for him.

9.) 02 May 2024 11:03:18
Or Ports, he’s being instructed to be a winger and okay like a winger again, unlike anybody but Garnacho in our squad.

10.) 02 May 2024 11:21:31
If you can’t see the difference in coaching I would be surprised. It won’t be long until taking on the full back is coached out of Garnacho. He will start doing the same as Antony, who has had years of ETH coaching. Then if ETH stays, Garnacho will be off. In two years we will be watching Garnacho run rings round full backs for Real Madrid, pleased for him like we were for Sancho.
Sancho was wrong in what he did, yet it is well known ETH is difficult, but also we can see wide players are passing back, inside across. If you are a forward, a wide player that isn’t football you want to play.
Maybe we can get the Dortmund coach, seems to know how to get a team to play forward.

11.) 02 May 2024 11:46:40
OMG - Sancho has a decent game and it's all ETH'S fault.
How fickle are some of the supporters on here.
Absolute joke!

12.) 02 May 2024 11:56:53
It's not about a difference in coaching, it's about energy and effort and coaches aren't there to coach those areas, that's non-negotiable. Whether you agree with the coaches tactics and instructions is one thing but you give 100% at all times. Sancho made a choice every time he put on the United shirt. He didn't perform for Solskjaer, Rangnik and never performed for England when played. He has a massive attitude problem. No one has ever questioned his ability.

13.) 02 May 2024 12:14:19
Plenty of differing views which is nice to see.

14.) 02 May 2024 12:38:24
Good point Ports, When you consider the number of managers who have had questions about Sancho down the years (this includes Dortmund and outside our club) the issue definitely lies with him.
Should the club, coaches be able to get more from him. yes. Does this make it not his issue. no.

This is another case of it best all round if he moves and both sides get a clean break.

15.) 02 May 2024 13:10:16
We all knew he was good at Dortmund and that’s why we paid £75m and awarded him with over £300k per week!

Is it really a surprise he’s returned to Dortmund and is playing better again?

I hope if EtH returns to Ajax and suddenly becomes a good manager again some posters will say the same thing?

By the way it’s ONE decent game!

I almost hadn’t noticed he was poor for Ole and Rangnick, his attitude and temperament questionable by other coaches, let’s just blame EtH for that as well.

Come let’s have some sensible debate please.

16.) 02 May 2024 13:11:32
As a fan who grew up in awe of the great wingers Utd have had since the mid eighties this is the position in the team I'm always drawn to, the tricky little guys who excite the crowd and create the chances for the guy in the middle. I appreciate the role has changed a bit in recent years with all the tracking back and energetic pressing but even so, these are the players I love to watch most. He was great last night, dare I say if he wasn't who he was and there isn't a history he'd be a player we'd be crying out for right now. We only have Garnacho who plays like those wingers of old. Hope we can snare another crowd-pleaser in the transfer window. Someone that gets you off your seat like Mitoma or Neto. Looks like Olise is a target, I'd love to see Eze instead but he's more central.

17.) 02 May 2024 13:24:10
Are you the self nominated arbitrator for what's sensible?
Best point you've made in ages there dlib
"I hope eth goes back to Ajax"
I'm glad you've seen the right way forward.
Nearly all managers fail at some point.
Can be a load of reasons for that.
Eth has failed at united to meet minimum expectations imo.
This does not mean he won't be a success again elsewhere.
Just like plenty of our players deemed useless and lazy by fans including your good self.
Mata lukaku sanchez herrera blind Di Maria darmian to name a few have all won titles and leagues since they left.
So your right eth will be seen as a decent manager again somewhere else. Let's hope that's as early as next season.

18.) 02 May 2024 13:37:41
Sensible debate? When I suggested we shouldn’t sign Sancho on here i got the usual pile on. When I suggested Ousmane Dembele for far less money usual pile on.

Is sensible debate ignoring that our wide players pass back and inside but when Sancho played well we must ignore it to save ETH shortfalls?

Yes one game and I didn’t like Sancho attitude but there is a clear issue with coaching wide players when we watch Antony.

19.) 02 May 2024 14:07:30
Not won titles and leagues in England though. Turkey, Italy and France? Not comparable to the Premier League so to use them in your defence of Sancho to support your criticism of ETH (which is what you are trying to do) is not reasonable.

Perhaps acknowledgement that Sancho is not cut out for the Premier League and did himself no favours in trying to be successful in England is a fairer reflection on the player and has zero to do with ETH. And perhaps ETH is not cut out for the Premier League and would go on and be successful for Bayern for example. But are the minimum expectations different at Ajax or Munich to United? So why do you think he will be seen as a decent manager elsewhere to United? What is stopping that happening at United? What stopped Mourinho, serial winner, winning the league? LVG a CV to match some of the best? Why didn't United take of with McKenna as a first team coach? 8 different managers since Sir Alex Ferguson have all failed to meet your expectations it would seem.

20.) 02 May 2024 14:11:04
Red Man - My apologies I didn’t mean to be offensive or antagonistic.

I just don’t think the coaching has anything to do with it, Sancho had been ineffective at Utd under different managers not just EtH.

Him playing better at Dortmund shouldn’t be a surprise, that’s why we paid all that money for him in the first place.

I understand the frustration with the manager but I don’t think Sancho should be used as another stick to beat him!

21.) 02 May 2024 14:23:11
Like you spenno I believe our wingers have always been the backbone of our creativity.
Going back to Hill And Copple olden giggs Sharpe Beckham giggs.
Few dodgy ones through the years In milne poporsky etc.
I accept the game has changed somewhat but when you look at the best teams they still exploit the wide areas better than anybody.
We don't.
Our full backs go into midfield not up the line. Leaving our wingers with options on the inside only more often than not.
It's a clear tactical choice and one that does not sit well with me it's not pleasing on the eye.
Anthony has been coached that way by eth for 4 years.
When garnacho is on the left he does likewise as does rashford and sancho was handcuffed and frustrated by it obviously. Amad can't get a look in as it goes against his nature.
I'm dumbfounded that eth thinks we are one of the most dynamic and attacking teams.
Can anybody honestly say we would score less and concede more under Southgate?
I'm not advocating Southgate BTW.
But the complaint about him is he is too defensive and careful and not adventurous. Well neither is ETH.

22.) 02 May 2024 14:29:39
So you think we shouldn't have signed Sancho, presumably because you felt like he wasn't good enough, we did sign him (not ETH) . ETH doesn't give him games, perhaps he to felt he wasn't good enough, questions his effort (despite supporting him for 4 months (I also recall you being very passionate about selling Rashford because he doesn't offer 100%) ) he leaves and plays a good game and now it's ETH shortfall that, that has happened? But to support that you will criticise Antony's performances because he is coached by ETH but completely ignore Garnacho's performances, who ETH promoted to the senior set up? By the way, Garnacho has made less backwards passes than Foden and Saka and only 13 more than Luiz Diaz and 26 more than Salah.

23.) 02 May 2024 14:34:17
I agree with Ports think they’ve made some very good points.

24.) 02 May 2024 14:35:16
Weed, "Are you the self nominated arbitrator for what's sensible? "
We all thought is your position on here.

25.) 02 May 2024 14:51:17
Ports none of those players played under eth. What are you talking about.
Those players that fans have deemed useless before are not useless.
They may have been useless at united like sancho has been but they are still very good players.
I never used them as a stick to beat eth you just have a bee in your bonnet and are jumping to mad hypothesise.
To use them in my defence of sancho?? what defence of sancho? Where have I defended him . Really you do need to stop fighting a point that didn't exist. Take a nice deep breath and point out to me where I've defended sancho. Please.

26.) 02 May 2024 15:01:18
Ports can you put a little context on those stats please?
As a percentage of total passes how many go backwards?
If foden for example makes twice as many passes as garnacho and they pass a similar number backwards then it would show that its a lot more common for garnacho to do it. That's why stats are not comparable unless you give the same criteria to each set of numbers.
Also how often do each lose possession?
A backwards pass under pep is berated in training (there are many videos of it, worth a watch) if a forward pass is on. The flipside is if the player passes backwards the players who don't give forward options are also singled out and lashed out if it. Its coaching and standards.

27.) 02 May 2024 15:12:06
'We all thought' who the bash street kids??
Nah just out on the boat trying hard not to laugh out loud too often. Frightens the fish. Not setting any agendas at all.

28.) 02 May 2024 15:14:01
''Nice to play with freedom and be allowed express himself'' If that's not a backhanded jibe at ETH and not defending Sancho I don't know what is?

To be fair, I did misinterpret your post about those players. I assumed you meant Sancho will be successful playing away from United and that you were directly relating that to him not playing for ETH. Apologise.

29.) 02 May 2024 15:18:57
Ports moyes I called to be fired.
Lvg I did not as it meant abandoning a succession plan they had in place.
Jose I did not want fired, although I do think he should have resigned the day the window shut and they backed the players over him.
Ole just a complete waste of space.
That's 4 managers 2 fell below expectations
How many of those did you want fired ports?

30.) 02 May 2024 15:29:18
No apology required ports.
That was not a back handed jibe at eth it was a straight forward jibe.
He does not allow the players that freedom he says so himself.
It was not defending sancho it was praising him.
He played well last night with freedom in a system that allows that.
It's not defending his time here.
Take the bee out of your bonnet wazza and fizzy pops could do the same.
Don't be concerned with my views stick to and defend your own.
I'll debate them all day but some just don't like being disagreed with and get offended.
I've been called worse than a pita by a stranger on the Web if he thinks that, then that's cool with me.

31.) 02 May 2024 17:05:25
I didn’t want Moyes in the first place, thought the job was to big at that time. Needed an ego and big personality to replace SAF, arguably the hardest job in football. I always felt Mourinho at United should have been after SAF. Didn’t want LVG sacked. But like you said why Mourinho should have resigned, after that I have backed every manager above the players. Playing for Manchester United should be a privilege, as is managing Manchester United. I see Managers working harder, maybe not getting everything right but working harder in their role than some players in theirs.

As for the pass backwards I have always stated on here stats are nothing without context but I put this stat up on here because people using it as a negative but the top players do it to so unless your prepared to back it up with something, a throwaway pass backwards comment to be critical means nothing. Now for me, there are so many contributing factors to things in football. Often Garnacho is the furthest forward so only direction he can pass is backwards. Could he put more crosses in? But do we get enough players in the box which is why he doesn’t? Foden makes more passes but City keep the ball better. We don’t keep the ball well and control the game so is that what we are trying to achieve? I don’t have the answers and unless a United player comes on here or tv and tells us what exactly goes on we are all making assumptions.

Fernandes is hammered for giving away possession but he trieds those high risk forward passes more than anyone, should he pass backwards more?!

For me, people are now just looking at anything to criticise the manager now and once again, players are absolved of all responsibility and this is my biggest issue with the players and why I will back the manager as I just see the same cycle repeating itself. I hope INEOS can change that, with or without ETH, but I think ETH deserves til Christmas at least to work for them.

32.) 02 May 2024 17:43:15
I can't see one reason to keep him at all.

33.) 02 May 2024 17:58:31
DLIB
No apologies needed

Ports

I find it hard to believe when watching Antony that anyone cannot see what has been coached. Garnacho will be affected like that as time goes by, if he stays. I posted last week about the pass map for two of our midfield players, sideways, back, almost never forward. I closely watched Antony in the Sheffield Utd game, played everything back, that’s against the worst defensive team in the league. You can see it. As a player do you enjoy that?
I have said that for some time, not just now.

34.) 02 May 2024 20:59:52
Seen it all now!
The usual EtH haters using SANCHO as a reason to find an angle to have a go.
Well said Ports! It was as predictable as death and taxes.

Pathetic
Boring
Predictable
???.

35.) 03 May 2024 12:39:01
Fickle bunch. One game and suddenly he is mbappe that needs to be appreciated. Watch a few bundes liga games I recommend, although the season is almost over.

Glad for him and hope we get decent value from selling him. He is not a united player. At what we are supposedly willing to let him go and how good he suddenly is there must be a line of teams waiting to buy him. let see summer is not too far away.

People have short memories and forget the groans as he played the same way but lost the ball over and over and every 50/ 50 ball, it just happens on one night it came off for him.

Barcola looked worldly vs Barcelona and was terrible vs Dortmund. go figure :)

36.) 03 May 2024 13:47:35
ahmad

How does Antony look to you when he passes the ball back and across, never goes at his full back? He doesn’t lose the ball so that must make him a raging success.

37.) 04 May 2024 08:34:35
Redman

Sancho has 3 goals and 2 assists since joining dortmund playing pretty much every game. You are so fickle and look for an angle to blame eth for every thing. He had a good night that all.

if he had those numbers at united playing every game since jan, you would be the first to call for eth head for playing him.

Similar numbers to antony btw given games played. Neither good enough for united imo. Never been a fan of antony and was quite vocal about that yonkers ago.

24 Apr 2024 13:10:10
The more I read about Ruben Amorim the more I think INEOS should go all out to get him into Old Trafford. He sounds like a very humble, likeable bloke who is always trying to learn from his peers in the game. Apparently very intelligent with excellent English.

Redpaul

1.) 24 Apr 2024 16:35:41
A lot of fans probably thought the same about ETH before he joined.

I am past the point of caring about who is at the helm next season. As long as we avoid Southgate and clear the toxicity and uninterested players from the changing room, I will give anyone a chance.

2.) 24 Apr 2024 17:05:05
We have empirical evidence that no manager will succeed without a change in the management structure, a process which is at its very beginning. With the Euros in the summer, time for transfer activity will be limited. We are not going to be in the ECL, which will be a turn off. If ETH is fired at the end of the season then the new manager will have virtually no time to give his input into the type of players he would like to see. If ETH is staying, which seems unlikely, then he is the one who will be influencing the new transfers. If the club doesn't trust in his ability given a new structure around him, then that would be a mistake. Add to that FFP issues. So, I think one way or another, this transfer window is going to be very difficult to make an enormous amount of squad headway, and patience will be needed, whoever the manager is.

(And yes, there was a pretty big contingent of supporters here advocating for Ten Hag two years ago) .

3.) 25 Apr 2024 08:29:46
We've had some massive managers in the last 10 years who've done the lot, and they got swallowed up and failed miserably. All any new guy is going to do is go back to the start and add a couple of players in his own vision, except this time he'll have ten Hag's misfits in the world's worst jigsaw as well as all the others.
Surely we have to see where we are after one more window. We can expect 3-4 in at least and anywhere up to 8-9 out I reckon. Let's see where we are once we're back at full strength with those transfers in/ out.

4.) 25 Apr 2024 22:33:30
Spenno we have had some names but when they joined us none were at their peake. Jose at Chelsea first time would have been miles better for us. LVG a massive name in football. but we got him way after his best. Ole is a player legend, management career is nothing really. altho what he did with us in the PL with the team he had and the dressing room egos. he did amazing for us.

I would have liked conte. We've got no ronnie, no pogba so I think his psychotic ways would work with our team.

Redpaul

1.) 14 Jun 2023 16:22:38
Shappy is about. He's currently breaking into Harry Kanes doctors office to get a real look at his injury record.

Perhaps he’s got repetitive strain injury in his hands and fingers from all the essays he writes……?.

Shappys doing a word count rn.

6.) 14 Jun 2023 22:19:31
There was definitely a Kane is injury prone post in the last 48 hours, I’d expect another one soon.

7.) 15 Jun 2023 03:14:43
A kane injury, or a kane injury post ?.

04 Aug 2019 19:26:15
Sky reporting United have ended interest in Dybala. We should go all out for Bruno now.

Redpaul

{Ed025's Note - frank or mars?.. :)

1.) 04 Aug 2019 19:37:05
It is quite clear that Bruno Fernandes will not be joining UTD either. Some more humble pie for me?

2.) 04 Aug 2019 19:43:13
Dodged a bullet with Dybala, Ed told us he didn’t want to sign for us and we are right not to throw money at him if that’s the case. We are still favourites for Fernandes and Ed has told us that he is a priority so I am hoping he’s the man we get for the midfield. I would like to think Mandzukic might come as well so that lukaku doesn’t get left in limbo. I think he would be a good signing and the extra money could go towards someone who wants to play for us.

3.) 04 Aug 2019 19:55:30
Agreed gds. Best for all if it's true.

4.) 04 Aug 2019 19:57:10
I’m starting to think Max wants to play for us looking how much time he spends on this page!

5.) 04 Aug 2019 19:58:59
Can Juventus afford to finance a deal for lukaku with dybala still on the books? Already have high earners like ronaldo, de ligt, rabiot and ramsey on the wage bill.

Wouldnt mind the club sitting tight and going into the season with the attacking options we have. Martial, Rashford, Greenwood, Mata, Lingard, James, Gomes (presuming he doesn't go on loan), Lukaku and the highest paid part time professional footballer come full time dog walker Alexis Sanchez.

Then go in for sancho in 2020 if we obtain champions league football, which is a must have to secure elite talent from europe.

6.) 04 Aug 2019 20:03:14
Ed has told us that Spurs are now the ones focusing on Fernandes.

Wouldn’t be surprised if we ended the window bringing in Mandzukic as part of the Lukaku deal, followed by an August in which Pogba tries to force through a move.

7.) 04 Aug 2019 20:05:45
Dodged a bullet when Dybala had absolutely no interest joining UTD lol. More like he dodged a bullet.

8.) 04 Aug 2019 20:19:43
Not sure how your posts are getting through Max, obsessed.

9.) 04 Aug 2019 20:19:49
Fair enough if he didn't want to come. We never asked for him. His club tried to force him out. He can enjoy the next ten months sat on their bench.

10.) 04 Aug 2019 20:23:22
Max
Think you have took a wrong turn off the mersey mate
Come back when if use ever get back on that perch

GDS2 your right about dybala I'm glad he's not coming he was never interested that's why his demands were so ridiculous better to leave alone .
Where does that leave us tho because we need a bit more creativity in midfield Mata too slow and lingards not good enough and it doesn't look like were getting fernandes either so what's the other options for us with 4 days to go.

If Kane leaves I would expect him to stay in England as he is only 60 goals behind Shearer’s Premier League record. United could be his only serious option as Liverpool and City have just bough strikers and I doubt he would go to Chelsea.
