Dembele rumours doing the rounds again. Quality player when fit, would be very expensive I imagine.

SAF20

1.) 22 Sep 2020 13:11:46
Re Ousmane Dembele Expensive with a bad injury record.
His entourage blames his injuries on Barcelona s training regime. I find it a bit hard to believe.
I would only consider a loan with option to buy.

2.) 22 Sep 2020 13:43:29
Fantastic player when fit, but struggles with injuries. There have been stories previously about him being a poor trainer and lacking focus.

3.) 22 Sep 2020 16:00:49
dev1l I'm sure I saw a post on here not so long back proving that Barcelona's training could actually be a factor.

Likewise Shappy I'm sure 002 (or another Ed) say he has matured somewhat.

A loan seems sensible but not with the obligation to buy.

4.) 22 Sep 2020 16:41:17
Barcelona have already shipped out a handful of players without replacing them. How many are they going to have left? Surely they will retain the younger players and build around them whilst getting the older players off the books, which they have begun doing.

{Ed002's Note - They are working on various things.}

30 Aug 2020 20:05:40
Ed, can you enlighten us on the DVB merry-go-round? Have we agreed a deal?

SAF20

{Ed002's Note - I would need to ask but my understanding is that there is an agreement - which obviously needs ratification.}

1.) 30 Aug 2020 20:43:58
A lot of reports of interest in thiago also ed, would it be a case of DVB or thiago or are we interested in both?

Thanks Ed 👍.

{Ed002's Note - They are different types of players. I am not aware of an approach from MU but a couple of other sides have spoken with them.}

2.) 30 Aug 2020 20:52:55
Magic ed, thank you 👍.

3.) 30 Aug 2020 21:11:04
Thanks as always Ed. I'm shocked, makes sense as a signing. We don't do sense.

4.) 30 Aug 2020 22:11:48
A great signing if it happens, hope the medical is OK and terms agreed. Top MF potentially with DVDB in there.

I don't want to hear anymore Maguire slating. Class for united and class for his country.

SAF20

{Ed014's Note - so naturally you’ll be winning the title next season and England will smash the euro’s, yes?

1.) 29 Jun 2021 19:25:15
No 100% not, not sure why you'd assume that from my post? The disrespect Maguire gets is unbelievable. He's the best English defender and the best at United but it's cool to agree with others because of his inflated price tag. Pep wanted him, deemed the best manager in the world but eveyone must know better than him. For what it's worth I think England will win the euros and United will come 3rd.

{Ed014's Note - I was teasing you SAF mate, personally thought Stones was excellent but Harry had a good game.

Just need to be a bit braver!

2.) 29 Jun 2021 19:44:11
I would give him a free pass for all season after todays game SAF 😂.

3.) 29 Jun 2021 20:10:27
Sorry Ed, I read my response back and it sounded a little abrupt! I just genuinely think Harry gets unfair criticism, the difference with and without him is clear to see. I thought he was immense tonight as was Stones. I have a feeling we're going to win it.

{Ed014's Note - hey no probs at all and would be great if we did!🤞🏻

4.) 29 Jun 2021 20:33:47
SAF, I’ve said it myself a few times on here recently, Harry gets a lot of flack from our fans and opposing ones, but I think he’s a very good CB who needs another quality CB alongside him.

United are a much much better side with him in it, as we saw at the end of last season. Put a top CB alongside Harry and we’d be solid. He didn’t choose his £80m fee, should be judged the same as anyone else.

5.) 29 Jun 2021 20:43:45
Haha and rightly so Herrera! He was solid tonight but so was Stones.

I agree Stand. He is a very good defender, he just isn't the quickest but is rarely caught out. Hopefully get Varane in, that will make a big difference to our back line.

6.) 29 Jun 2021 20:48:40
Like at Rome Stand? Because people forgot how bad we were with him in Rome but after few days suddenly we "missed" him because we conceded 4 against Liverpool.

7.) 29 Jun 2021 21:52:38
By far our best cb.

{Ed014's Note - John Stones doesn’t even play for you! 🤦‍♂️😂

8.) 29 Jun 2021 22:46:47
🤣🤣 the Irish lads at digging England out🤣
Surely grealish has to start against Ukraine
Think saka will miss out.

9.) 30 Jun 2021 02:13:47
Wow just think if Ireland hadmore belief in Yout
JG might not have been on the pitch for England at all

He is a fantastic player I'd love him at UTD

On another note DR boils my blood. The Nat Anthem is being played and he is roaring GSTQ. I would love to put his rendition of the Irish Anthem up against GSTQ.

10.) 30 Jun 2021 09:21:49
Maybe it's because I'm English, but personally I'd have thought Grealish turning his back on Ireland was a bigger snub than Rice.

Rice was born and raised in Kingston upon Thames, his parents were born in England and his maternal grandparents also. While all his grandparents lived in England. He never spent time in Ireland in his youth living or visiting Ireland. He never really showed much inclination towards actually being Irish other than one set of grandparents hailing from Cork.

Grealish on the other hand has 3 of his 4 grandparents from Ireland. He played Gaelic football and frequently spent time in Ireland during his youth. He seems far more involved in Irish culture than Rice and personally I'd have thought his snub for the country he chose to represent as a youth would hurt more than that of Declan Rice who pretty much only spent time in Ireland to play football.

11.) 30 Jun 2021 09:35:20
I guess it's because Rice has played with the Irish first team Shappy. It's a stupid rule that a player can switch allegiance and I think it needs to change but Ireland have taken advantage of that rule too.

12.) 30 Jun 2021 09:42:32
Neither hurt at all. You need to get a life shappy you look into needless things too deeply its not vital that you share your opinion on every single thing and make up imaginary scenarios 🤣🤣🤣
99.9% of irish fans couldn't give a toss about either. Both English lads both made the right decision imo.

13.) 30 Jun 2021 10:58:10
herrera van dyke conceded 7 against villa it happens but as many have said he is out best CB

people like to go off stats

other than goals conceded maguire was best CB in in the prem, he even beat the poty diaz

give the guy credit never missed a game since he come to us other than the end of last season.

14.) 30 Jun 2021 12:15:50
He never lost a game and he was average at most games bolger. I didn't use any stats but that's what i see. It seems that after one "good" match we delete past and suddenly what a player he is . Let it be :)

15.) 30 Jun 2021 12:16:12
Ken, I was replying to Reddevilfan's post about Rice singing the national anthem "boiling his blood" but being fine with Grealish playing for England.

Both lads were born in England to English born parents.

Just my opinion that with Grealish being closer to his Irish roots I'd have thought that his choice to represent England would have been more upsetting to Irish fans.

16.) 30 Jun 2021 14:07:24
I don't know one Irish fan who cares that they chose England. The FAI and the national team have a lot more problems than two decent players playing for the country they were born in.

But I'm sure they're using their Irish Passports to freely travel around the EU while representing England.

17.) 30 Jun 2021 23:42:53
Exactly mumbles.

18.) 30 Jun 2021 23:52:25
Grealish could score a brace and still not start at the minute. Southgate should take the handbrake off. Germany were there for a few more last night had he been a little braver. Hoping to see Jack against Ukraine.

03 Dec 2020 08:53:29
That was hard to swallow last night. I thought the scoreline flattered them massively, we were the better team and but for some woeful finishes would have qualified with at least a point probably all 3.

A few observations-

1. Obviously Fred should have been hauled off at HT. It really was an appalling decision to leave him on. If there's one player in our side you do not leave on when he's on a yellow so early (that should have been red) it's Fred. His game is based on energy, getting about the field and putting his foot in. It's unforgivable and I think Ole should have held his hands up and said he got it wrong. That said I like Fred, I think had a good game apart from the obvious.

2. Marital looks lost at the minute, he was woeful last night. Had a couple of golden chances which needed taking. Had they have fallen to Cavani you can't help but think they'd be put away. Mason must be knocking on the door to take his place. Cavani, Mason, rash should start Saturday.

3. Why two holding mids? There was nobody last night that could play that ball from back to front, everything looked very safe. Bruno was having to drop deep or wide to take the ball. For me DVB or Pogba, yes Pogba are a must Saturday. Fred and Scott do excellent jobs at hustling and breaking up play but neither have that ability to link CB to AM, at least not without 2 touches. Both Pogba and DVB will do it with one touch.

With that said I think we actually look decent. We are not a million miles away and as I said should consider ourselves unlucky last night. Still pretty confident we'll get something in Germany. We are a much better team now than we were 2 months ago.

On to Saturday.

SAF20

1.) 03 Dec 2020 09:21:59
Rashford has a shoulder injury.
It should be a straight swap with Greenwood at the right.

2.) 03 Dec 2020 10:37:18
We play two cdms because our cb's need protecting. Well, Maguire does.

3.) 03 Dec 2020 10:51:41
Ole's decision making is absolute pants. Anyone with half a brain could see what was going to happen with Fred.
He should of been hauled off at half time and replaced with Matic.

Has anybody read anything about a supposed cyber attack at United? Not sure how true it is but the report said the attackers are holding the club ransom and the expectation is that United will pay? I'd imagine there would be more in the news if this was true?

SAF20

{Ed001's Note - there has been a cyber attack, the only question is how much information the hackers got and whether the club is being held to ransom is unknown. No business confirms details like that publicly as it would encourage further attacks if true.}

1.) 27 Nov 2020 19:24:53
Cheers Ed. I thought it was pie in the sky but seems not. I'd imagine the head of cyber security is a little nervous right now!

{Ed001's Note - don't worry mate, Harry Maguire is leading the defence as we speak.}

2.) 27 Nov 2020 19:34:18
Let's hope the hackers aren't pacey then eh?!

3.) 28 Nov 2020 10:10:10
Are they our official hackers worldwide now and any idea how much they are paying us, Woodward hasn't said?

4.) 28 Nov 2020 15:32:45
I saw on another forum someone once tried selling Utd cyber security software and they only put a measly £25k on the security side. They also wanted the person to give it them for free in exchange for some branding/ free exposure.

5.) 28 Nov 2020 21:41:38
Brilliant ED001. If Maguire was a firewall, he would allow everything through.

16 Nov 2020 07:08:32
I said at the time we were linked how much I would like Grealish. After a center back he was my number 1 wish. I remember many saying we should stay clear at all costs, he's overrated. I even remember some saying we have lingard to cover the bench! Jack Grealish was in a class of his own last night and is, for me, one of the best players in the league. He's proving many people wrong, including it seems the England manager.

SAF20

1.) 16 Nov 2020 07:59:03
I agree, he looks to have some really good qualities that could easily translate to a top team, especially his ability to dribble in tight spaces which could help a team like us which struggles to create chances against low block defences.

Also he does seem to have that confidence, maybe arrogance to keep trying thing/ taking risks which we desperately need when the going gets tough and most of our players natural instinct is to play sideways/ backwards.

But i don't think many people were as down on him as you suggest, just that his best positions are either left wing or number 10 where we have rashford and bruno who for me are our two best players.

Then the question comes would you pay the quoted price for someone in your strongest position or instead fill a gaping hole at right wing whete we are currently playing the 57 year old juan mata.

As it turned out we did neither lol and instead signed some kids in pellistri and traore and an experienced old striker in cavani.

2.) 16 Nov 2020 08:48:23
I agree with you DSG about Bruno and Rash being out best players however I always think the best players can play a variety of positions and we've seen with Rashford and Bruno they can be moved around and still be effective. I really think we missed a trick with Grealish, he will go eventually and the price will be even higher sof these performances continue. I'd like to see him come in when Pogba gets his wish and sods off.

3.) 16 Nov 2020 09:51:06
At 40-50m he would have been worth going for. But at 80m for a player who primarily plays either LW or N0.10 which as DSG points out are positions we have Rashford and Bruno who are arguably our two best players its hard to see how he would fit in the team.

We currently have two 80m+ players in Pogba and Maguire who most people think are either not good enough or not suited to our team. Then there is the off field issues that he brings.

Does it make sense to spend 80m on a squad player with a questionable off field attitude/ mentality?

4.) 16 Nov 2020 10:32:51
His is a very good player and looks a united player to me
Saf20 is right many had a proper downer on him, shappy told me repeatedly he just wasn't a very good player .
The lad will get a big move soon imo.

5.) 16 Nov 2020 11:21:22
Grealish was stunning last match.
He can hold the ball anywhere and its difficult to dispossess him without fouling.

6.) 16 Nov 2020 12:08:29
I was one of the people not wanting him. He doesn't have a clear position in our team, he is not tracking back enough and has bad attitude. Not a 80 million signing.
With Grealish we will have another "problematic" player which we must build the team around to take most of him. Grealish is good in the eyes but not so good for his team overall, like Pogba. And that's a shame because he could be a very good player for us.

7.) 16 Nov 2020 12:10:37
Jred, I never said he wasn't a good player.

I questioned whether he was good enough for a top side. Something I still think is a valid question as he has yet to prove he is at a top side. (Being the best player in a terrible England side that got spanked 2-0, in a game Grealish was totally unable to affect the result doesn't make him a top player for me) . Its one thing being the big fish in a small pond and completely another to be able to do it at a top side week in week out.

I questioned his off field activities and whether we wanted to bring in a player with a questionable attitude to a side full of young impressionable players.

Finally at the quoted price of 80m, I felt and still do that there are plenty of other players who could fullfil the same role as Grealish would for far less money and without the questionable attitude.

Grealish plays his best either on the LW in Rashford position, or in the No.10 role which is Bruno's position.

While Grealish would be an upgrade on most of our squad players, you don't spend 80m on squad players.

8.) 16 Nov 2020 12:26:40
I reached the same conclusion Shappy. Grealish did some excellent work in the game last night but it didn't translate into anything of substance. To be truly excellent he needs to find an end product to his progressive dribbling by either banging it into the top corner or playing in a team mate.

That said, I do like the way he drives at teams and puts them on the back foot.

9.) 16 Nov 2020 14:07:03
Fur coat no knickers.
Talented, i think he works hard enough in most games to be fair.
He does draw a lot of fouls he will do well somewhere. At the prices quoted 60-80m i think it high risk.
He does have a swagger in his play i like. Surrounded by better players he could do well.
A few question marks about his off field behaviour but that should imorove with maturity.
Good player its a 50/ 50 for me. Personally i think we have better players than him in his best positions lw/ 10 here already.

10.) 16 Nov 2020 14:30:00
Shappy
Sorry pal but your backtracking as always .
You where very clear at the time about grealish.

11.) 16 Nov 2020 15:12:30
He had a good season last year in a struggling villa team .
Walked into the England set up as if he belongs there.
Started this season very well 4 goals in 7 league games .
Talented lad, bags of confidence good physical attributes.
Looks the business to me.

12.) 16 Nov 2020 15:24:13
Jred, you should probably learn to read. I haven't backtracked at all.

Grealish is a good player, not a world class one.

We have a better player in both of Grealish's best positions (LW/ No.10).

He has a questionable off field attitude, which has lead to some brushes with the law.

Villa wanted 50-60m when they looked like being relegated, once they stayed up the price shot up to 80m.

There is no way Grealish, a good but not world class player is worth 80m. If you think he is then you need to give your head a wobble.

13.) 16 Nov 2020 15:39:43
Shaps you have changed your tune pal, you told me in the summer he simply wasn't that good a player?
Also as discussed previously he can and has played in a cm 3 can play in a front 3 .
I personally don't think rash will walk straight back in to England team .
Sancho is probably behind him.

So it back to price now? Its strange how people only talk money and wages when it suites .

14.) 16 Nov 2020 19:22:50
Grealish is clearly talented. I don't think anyone would disagree. But being talented and being a top player is something very different.
Is he a top player worths 80 millions? For 80 millions you expect someone to make a position his own, perform week in week out and not causing problems. Could Grealish do that? It seems that the case of Pogba didn't make us wiser.

{Ed025's Note - or harry maguire..

15.) 16 Nov 2020 19:28:25
Jred, I never said Grealish was a bad player. I said he wasn't any better than any of our first choice players.

Is he a better LW than Rashford?

Is he a better No.10 than Bruno?

You say he can play in the midfield three, fine so is he better than Pogba?

Grealish is a good player, but he isn't better than what we have and his ceiling probably isn't higher than our current players. So its not like he is a young player who'll develop and improve and become better than what we have.

16.) 16 Nov 2020 20:36:02
I never wanted Pogba near our team but i understand the people who did. If he fullfilield his potential he would be one of the best. Maguire is a different case, paying 80 millions was a joke, he is not clearly talented and even at his best he is not even in the top 10 defenders (for me not even top 100). But i get what you mean Ed025. We are in danger to throw record fees for average players like Harry, players who will not fullfill their potential like Pogba because of his attitude and players who like drinking parting and not have a top mentality like Grealish.

{Ed025's Note - its happened in football for many a year herrera, best, gazza, rodney marsh etc have all been flawed genius,s who loved the drink the women and the millionaire lifestyle mate, i think grealish is a very talented footballer but anyone taking him on is walking a tightrope..

17.) 16 Nov 2020 21:03:56
I think most weren’t keen, jred and I were the exception. He’s either a big fish in a small pond, or he has the ability to step up and be a to player. Personally I think he would blossom at United.

18.) 16 Nov 2020 21:26:33
We prioritised Sancho over Grealish which I think was a huge mistake. Especially given we knew Sancho bid would end in failure if not meeting Dortmund’s very clear demands.

The travesty of the summer transfer window was missing out on both Grealish and Sancho. I appreciate there are a lot of moving parts to it:
Pogba wasn’t sold
Van de Beek was half the price of Grealish and we had a free run at him
Sancho was the number 1 target and the United Execs wrongly concluded they’d get their man.

Strongly suspect Ole felt considerably let down by the window.

Our Summer 2021 targets may well be the same as they should’ve been in 2020 - Sancho, Grealish and a CB.

Can’t see Sancho in a United shirt though now. I do think Grealish is obtainable though and would love him at OT.

As for position, be quite happy to see Grealish as LW with Rashford up top instead of the very average Martial.

19.) 16 Nov 2020 21:39:15
I wouldn't say Grealish is a risk. He is doing it for a villa on his own at times. He is for money one of the best players in the league and he will go on to do wonderful things. I'd have him over everyone in our team bar Bruno, that's how good I think he is. His arrogance and swagger on the ball gets me off my seat everytime, that to me is a true United player. He has something almost Gaza esque about him and as we know most genius are flawed.

20.) 16 Nov 2020 22:35:12
Gaza? Genius? Lots to do before he can claim either if those things. Madison is a better player imo.

21.) 16 Nov 2020 23:04:17
I don't see the fuss about him to be honest. Decent player who falls over everytime someone comes near him.

22.) 17 Nov 2020 01:46:20
Yes
Maddison > Grealish

But both play best in Bruno's position. Both could fill right side position, but would resent it.

We need to sign Micheal Carrick reincarnated to get the best out of this side.

23.) 16 Nov 2020 22:52:54
I agree Ed025. And it wouldn't be the end of the world if he will come, in Grealish we wanted an AM-LW with different attributes as Ed002 said, and he really is a different option, he is a baller who likes to run at defenders and good in tight spaces.
But then it is the price, that he doesn't track back often, he holds the ball too much to win a foul instead of passing early sometimes (althought that can be fixed in a better team who trusts his teammates more, i know wishful thinking) .
He is the kind of luxury player and every team that wants to win the Premier can withstand one such player, if any. He needs to be to a team that it is "smaller" than him so they forgive him for everything. Reminds Harry Kane 2 years ago who he was shooting from everywhere and he was making his own staff and whatever he wanted but none could have a go at him because he is their star. You can't win the Premier with such players. Reminds me what Ed001 said, that you can't win the Premier building the team around one player, he must come to the team and fit in. His example was (if i remember) that Chelsea didn't win it when they builded the team around Hazard but when Hazard played for the team. Gerrard and Liverpool is another example, Kane and Tottenham another. So we can't win the league building the team around Pogba or Grealish and wait for all players to try too hard to cover for them. Unless they are George Best or Ronaldinho :)
I agree with some posters, he looks like a Manchester United player, his arrogance and style makes me want a player like him, but then i am almost sure it will not work well.
Hope you are well Ed025, its a pleasure to chat with you. Chears.

{Ed025's Note - although im not a fan of his diving antics and his personal life choices there is no doubting his ability herrera, if a club like utd could get a grip of him and hes not the big fish in the small pond then im sure it would work, the problem is that ole does not seem the strongest man manager and his handling of paul pogba proves that mate..

24.) 17 Nov 2020 07:31:28
Ken, he isn't claiming them mate. I'm saying he has that maverick about him that makes you think while ever he's on the ball something may happen, much the same way Gaza did. Bruno has the same aura, they may lose the ball but they will lose it trying something that may lead to a goal. If the last few years prices are anything to go by then Grealish is worth the reported 80 million. I feel in a few years time he will be winning leagues, I just hope its with us.

25.) 17 Nov 2020 07:46:36
I associate he didn't say them saf20 and i sort of get where your coming from. But i'm not as convinced as you are. If i was drawing a list of attainable targets he would not make my list but he would yours. I don't see all the fuss and i'm not sure he will make the euro squad or if he does he won't play very much imo.

26.) 17 Nov 2020 14:24:47
Ken
I will be very surprised if he doesn't make the euro squad let's see how thst works out .
I will be very surprised if maddison does .
Shaps
I would play grealish ahead of pogba yes .

27.) 17 Nov 2020 15:56:23
Lots of time to go before the squad is selected.
I won't be surorised if he doesn't make it at all.
Him and mount are ahead of maddison for sure.
Sancho rash greenwood mount kane odoi, maddison, kane, ings, foden Calvert lew, plus a few others vying for a spot for the 4 attacking roles. Probably 8 places up for grabs. A lot will depend on form and fitness.
I'm sure a wild card or 2 will appear before a squad is named.
I for 1 think vardy should make himself available. Although its not much fun going to tournaments and hardly getting a kick.

28.) 17 Nov 2020 16:02:38
Jred, Pogba under Ole plays in a midfield two with Bruno a head of him. Do you think Grealsih can play in a midfield double pivot alongside one of Matic, McTominay or Fred? I don't, he's too lazy defensively and needs to be closer to goal to be an offensive threat as his passing from deep is average at best.

29.) 17 Nov 2020 16:10:15
Big fan of Maddison, but these injuries have stalled him a little. Hope he gets back to his best with a run of games. Think he could be an England regular for years if he keeps fit. I like Grealish too. Plenty of ifs and buts about him, but then no signing is free of those, and none are guarantees.

30.) 17 Nov 2020 16:25:03
Shappy I said a midfield 3 .
Your moving the goalpost again

You spent the summer telling me grealish wasn't that good your just trying to justify your I
Opinion.
Where dies Donny fit in?

Shappy in no way could grealish play as 1 of the midfield 2 in the system ole prefers.
Could he play in midfield for a proper team and manager? i think he could. He could play in midfield for pep or klopp or poch but definitely not for ole or jose. They are too negative and generally more destructive players become their go to men.
For grealish to be a success at united he would need to play under a more constructive progressive coach imo.

Thanks as always Ed. I'm shocked, makes sense as a signing. We don't do sense.

I read this a few hours ago too. I'm sure it's rubbish but we live in hope.

Maybe read your reply back and you'll see that yes, it was indeed rude Scooby. If you don't like the post maybe just don't reply? If wasn't allowed on the site then the Eds would have removed/ not posted it.

Dear me. You don't play for France, Real and United if you aren't decent.

{Ed014's Note - dear me if you hadn’t mentioned United you might have gotten away with that lame attempt of a come back!?‍♂️

Disagree with the Pogba challenge being cowardly. He can't win sometimes, if he pulls out you would also be labelling him a coward. Pogba did exactly what he should have done, albeit not including being sent off, he showed some desire and fight and put in a challenge.

Jack Grealish will go on to be the best player in the league and one of the best in Europe. 100 million well spent, he is a class act.

Grealish could score a brace and still not start at the minute. Southgate should take the handbrake off. Germany were there for a few more last night had he been a little braver. Hoping to see Jack against Ukraine.

Haha and rightly so Herrera! He was solid tonight but so was Stones.

I agree Stand. He is a very good defender, he just isn't the quickest but is rarely caught out. Hopefully get Varane in, that will make a big difference to our back line.
