reporting Ajax resigned to losing Jasper Cillesen to Manchester United. Be interesting to see if it'll be this season or next.

3.) 19 Jul 2015 08:33:33
I agree jamiej79 he reminds of degea when he came he's scrawny with no presence I know degeas world class now but it's took him 3 year to get there if we want to win title this year we need a ready made keeper not someone with potential

The more I come on here the more I see a lot of posters talk absolutely rubbish.

He's absolutely brilliant.

So along with everyone else on here, and I appreciate it's hardly an original post, LVG has got me guessing who this surprise signing will be. I fail to see how it's going to be someone not already linked unless of course we're all going to be incredibly disappointed over the next week or so.

Looking through various media outlets reveals very little other than pure speculation. Something a little more concrete, in my opinion, is the odds on each player joining a certain side. After all you'd hazard a guess that anyone in the know would attempt to financially benefit from their knowledge.

After looking at the odds on a couple of sites and converting them into a probability percentage it reveals that the most likely attacking target is Pedro Rodriguez (65%)

This would make sense given that Rooney is to be employed as the central striker and ADM could be leaving for pastures new.

After that you're looking at Gaitan and Edinson Cavani. They're both pretty close. Outside of that both Thomas Muller and Zlatan Ibrahimovich also come in close together. Bale and Lewandowski both come in with the same odds.

I genuinely think it's one of the above names. It's definitely worth watching the markets to see where the money goes. If I was to have a punt I'd go for Muller.

In my opinion markets are manipulated either by made up media bullsh1t or purposefully by sites that want naive gamblers to see odds shortening and to jump on as someone must know something.

Put simply, and if the markets are working properly, just think how many people know nothing verses how many people are genuinely in the know.

This site is about as in the know as you can be for on a public forum. And we don't really have a clue.

My advice is keep your money in your pocket and sit back and wait, and enjoy the odd guess and ludicrous suggestion of course ;)

This summer has, so far, seen a much more structured approach to the signing of new players rather than last seasons panicked fiasco. The midfield was a weakness and put a lot of extra pressure on an already inept back four. It's been addressed quite successfully. Morgan Schneiderlin adds real quality for many years to come and Bastian Schweinsteiger brings an instant fix.

Up top the addition of Memphis Depay is, in my opinion, a coup. The guy look like he's full of himself and I like that in a forward to the point where I think it's an essential trait. Look at the other superstars we've had that have been perceived as 'arrogant'. The majority have gone on to be brilliant.

The right back position was beyond a weakness. There were times last season when it looked like we weren't even fielding a right back. Again this issue has been addressed and again they've done it in a much more accomplished manner by steering away from the big names and picking a young lad with bags of potential.

The issues left to look at then is a striker. I've no doubt that Rooney has the qualities to play there but we need not only a contingency but also a partner for Rooney to play off as I believe this is when he is at his best. Memphis is an option but I believe rather than looking to him in his first season United should look towards a proven centre forward. Someone like Lewandowski is ideal fitting most of the qualities expected of a United forward. This area is my only concern as I fear that United will be of the belief that they have enough in this area and not look to strengthen further. Nothing Wilson and Hernandez have had opportunities previous and neither looks the 20 goal plus striker United are lacking.

As for the CB position it has to be Nicolas Otamendi. No one else will do. Ramos was no more than United standing up to Real Madrid. I'm glad they did because it showed that despite their money and Galacticos tag they can't just pick who they want at will. Kudos to Ed for standing firm on that.

That brings us to the final necessary transfer. A reserve GK that will assume the no 1 jersey when DDG departs next year. Not a lot of love on here for Jaspar Cillesen and I'm confused as to why not? He's already an international and a year under DDG will see him come on ten fold. He'd be my first choice as it's unlikely Lloris will leave to sit on a bench. Sergio Romeo is an option but in my opinion would present the biggest risk.

All in all it's so far so good. I just hope that Ed keeps pushing for the big transfer that will see 4th become 1st or 2nd. Players like Lewandowski are that difference.

I think we'll sign a center back, a wide right forward and a back up keeper.

Next summer a first choice goalkeeper, a big name striker and/ or a big name statement.

2.) 20 Jul 2015 18:16:57
including myself you're the 3rd guy I've seen praise Cillessen.

The guy is brilliant, but also too good to be a back up. there are aspects of his game which are far better than De Gea's.

if we're signing the De Gea replacement now then why don't we let him develop now and not next year.

If we're adamant about signing his replacement now then let him go now.

3.) 20 Jul 2015 18:52:54
I agree about certain areas getting stronger, CM and RB, but the striker question is tricky: if we go with what we have and Rooney gets hurt, then it looks like we really lack a goalscorer. But if we sign an expensive striker, like Lewandowski or Cavani, then Rooney will play off the CF, and that means only 2 in the MF. And I think most of us like the idea seeing 3 in the MF, any given week, 3 out of 4 from Carrick, Schneiderlin, Herrera, and Schweinsteiger. And more importantly, LVG seems to see it that way too, to go with a 4-3-3.

4.) 20 Jul 2015 18:58:17
jose
i agree if we are going to replace him then let's just do it

We must have been linked with upwards of 100 players now. It's become a pretty boring saga where overpaid journalists are just clutching at straws attempting to sell papers/generate hits. In truth no one knows exactly who's on the shopping list aside from LVG and Ed W. We know the positions we need to fill and I'm sure they'll be filled by capable players in due course. Time for the daily 'United agree terms with. ' rumours to stop (I'm looking at you Metro)

Written in an article on the BBC website is the dreaded phrase none of us wanted to hear

The draw at Turf Moor, however, only highlighted that Van Gaal will surely want more reinforcements before the transfer window closes on Monday - although word from inside Old Trafford is that Blind may be the final arrival.

Not good. Another season finishing 7th!

Simon_Ghost_Riley

1.) Van gaal said in post match conference that now up to the players if they want to move or not. Both ones we have and ones we want I presume.

According to media outlets Edinson Cavani is almost signed, sealed and delivered.I personally don't see what he offers United. Any truth in the reports Ed?

Simon_Ghost_Riley

{Ed004's Note - hopefully not}

1.) If for some bizarre reason the club decided to buy another striker it should be one with pace (Aubameyang?).

Cavani is a very good player but is no better than what we have. All he really adds to the club is a huge wage and transfer fee.

2.) According to reports Cavani has flown out to Asia with PSG so it doesn't sound imminent to me. He could fly back but we have three positions to sort before a striker in my humble opinion.

3.) I can not see him fitting in, admittedly a quality player but so far we seem to play 1 main striker upfront and I doubt he would be ahead of RVP or even Rooney.

4.) 28 Jul 2014 22:07:47
He posted a picture on social media saying he was on the way to PSG training in Hong Kong.
"On my way to Hong Kong to start a new season. " was the quote

5.) No one would hear me complain if we signed Vermaelen, Vidal & Cavani. Hummels I think would be pushing it :)

6.) Not fit to trim rvp and rooneys pubes, terrible buy if this happens

7.) Sydney the only reason we sbould be buying Cavani as if we are selling Kagawa but the squad will still be imbalanced.

Id prefer us to go for Reus or Cuadrado and get rid of Kagawa for his own good.

8.) ED04

Cavani is a brilliant player and I am not sure why you would not want that. He is a huge improvement on the likes of welbeck and hernadez, which looks like we will be moving one of them on for sure. Remember RVP is 31 going to 32 and rooney is 29 going to 30, we will need a striker soon(next year at the latest) and they are the hardest to get and cavani is still imo one of the best.

{Ed004's Note - Because we are in dire need of two centre backs, possibly two centre midfielders and a couple of wingers first. Can't see how we can afford to spend 50 mill on a striker who I think is overrated anyways}

9.) Ed004

I am not saying Cavani at the expense elf CBs, CMs. I am saying nothing wrong with him joining as long as we get 2 cg's and 1 cm. We do need to seek quite a few players as there is no room in the squad if we buy that many.

I believe Vidal will sea the red shirt and one cb will come in and the it all depend on who we move on before anything else happens.

{Ed004's Note - If we were to bid 50 mill for cavani I would be disappointed rather that money be spent on someone like Reus}

10.) 004, we are not going to be playing with wingers therefore they will not be needed. We need one more midfielder and one top notch CB.

Hummels, Vidal & Cavani would be plenty and would have no complaints from me.

{Ed004's Note - I think the only reason we are playing this formation is because our wingers are so poor. Reus gives us the option of playing 433 with Janujaz on the other wing. For the Dutch the front three was Sneijder, RVP and Robben. Now robben is not a striker and is a similar player to Reus.}

11.) 004, Holland played a 3412 with RvP & Robben as the strikers and Sneijder in the hole.

{Ed004's Note - And we couldn't play that here with Mata, RVP/Rooney and Reus/Di Maria}

12.) 004, LvG has confirmed twice now that we will be playing a 343 next season. A lot of the players have given their opinions on the 343 (3412) and they are happy to play that formation. The whole squad are working very hard on this new formation before the season starts. You need to forget about the 433 for now my friend. Shaw and Valencia will be supplying the width as it stands. That's why he's talking about trying to turn Zaha into a forward, just like he did with Nani & Young in the Galaxy game. So there will be a lot of reliance on two strikers. Hernandez will probably leave, that leaves us with Rooney, Welbeck and Van Persie. So I would be more than happy with us signing Cavani. I doubt it will happen, but Hummels, Vidal & Cavani would be all we need this summer and promote some youth. Don't forget there will be less games this season 004.

13.) I would prefer to see a front two of Cavani & Van Persie with Mata/Rooney sitting behind.

{Ed004's Note - I can't see why you can't class Mata, RVP and Reus as a front 3. The other front 3 lacks a bit of pace. Utd have had interest in Di Maria, Sanchez and Cuadrado}

14.) Cuadrado would be the RWB. Sanchez/Di Maria/Reus would be MU's answer to Holland's Robben and could have worked fine. But the reason Robben was used is because he's better than Huntelaar and the other Dutch striker. Two strikers would work better than a striker and a winger. Robben can do both. But more importantly and something to consider is Cavani is available, Reus is not.

Who cares about FFP? It's PSG that will have to deal with any fallout from a rule breach. Enjoy the fact that Paul Pogba is now an absolute steal!

I think it's safe to assume we've been used as a pawn in another Sergio Ramos situation.

I'd prefer James. Frees up Real to buy Pogba as well so all parties benefit. Plus we don't spend £100m on a player that we sold for 3 peanuts and a jam sandwich.

Yup. 3-0, 4-0 against Hull was never going to happen. Not this early in the season

22 Aug 2016 14:04:56
Curtis Davies and Tom Huddlestone have been immense so far. It won't be as brashly easy as some are expecting. Hull are a solid unit at the back and have enough going forward to cause us a few problems.

A hard fought and physical 1-0 to United.

I think you're spot on Ed007. It's been such a protracted transfer saga that, despite Pogba being on holiday, should have been wrapped up after the European Championship. My thoughts are that if it was going to complete it would have done so by now.

Someone mentioned James. If I was a betting man I'd be tempted to put some money on that one.

Apologies. You mentioned Jon Snow (the C4 news guy) and I made a quip about Game of Thrones. I'll take it you fall into the 10% of people that don't watch it.
