Seems like rumours of a cut price deal for Youri Tielemens are flavour of the week.

What do people think?

I for one think he would be an excellent addition to our midfield, hardworking, technically excellent, great strike on him and PL proven. On paper a perfect Pogba replacement.

I would be disappointed however if he comes in at the expense of an out and out CDM.

Hopefully, the budget stretches and we have the resources to identify most or all of the areas on the pitch we are deficient in.

I'm not convinced, he's not got the same level of ability as Pogba, works slightly harder, but has the same propensity to disappear in games.

He has one good game, two average games and one poor one every month. But the good game often gets over egged and people remember that.

I think he's found his level, any side that is aiming to finish between 6th-3rd consistently.

If we are aiming to win the league then we need players good enough to be first choice at City or Liverpool. Tielemans isn't in my opinion and for that reason I think we should look elsewhere.

2.) 17 Feb 2022 11:19:45
He is a good player, but we should go out for Bissouma iver Tielemans.

3.) 17 Feb 2022 11:45:13
I’m with Shappy on this. Good player - but not better than Pogba - albeit he’s clearly off.

4.) 17 Feb 2022 13:01:33
Wonder if Ronnie still visits here? He'd need an industrial size tissue box.

5.) 17 Feb 2022 13:09:55
I bet Liverpool would take Tielemans to replace Henderson.

6.) 17 Feb 2022 13:51:40
Ports, I'm not sure they would. He doesn't work hard enough for Klopp's midfield.

7.) 17 Feb 2022 13:52:27
I think Liverpool would bite Leicester’s hand off. Would love him at Utd, far more consistent than Pogba although they aren’t really the same kind of player.

8.) 17 Feb 2022 14:52:16
Came 5th last season for most ground covered Shappy.

9.) 17 Feb 2022 15:31:08
MH,

I think given MG's issues there is zero chance of us getting Bissouma.

10.) 17 Feb 2022 20:55:31
Found his level Shappy? He’s 24 with potentially 7-8 years left in him.
Do you not think Liverpool or City would snap him up?
He’d walk into our midfield, whether it’s Poch or Ten Haag, I really hope we’re in for him over the summer.

11.) 17 Feb 2022 23:07:09
Big fan of Tielemans. I’d take him over Pogba any day of the week. Covers lots of ground, classy passer, and doesn’t come with an agent who’s an enemy of football. For moments of pure magic, you can’t deny that Pogba is a gifted footballer, he’s a luxury we can’t afford though. Been treated poorly by the club as we know, but United have never been his number 1 priority either. I’d probably compare Tielemans to a classier and more refined version of Ander Herrera.

12.) 18 Feb 2022 06:54:12
Pogba been treated badly by the club? Have I just read that right! Do me a favour! Been paid obscene amount of money for off the top of my head a dozen top performances! Another player whose taken the mick out of our club and clearly has pulled the wool over some eyes!

{Ed0666's Note - or he’s never had a manager who could get the best out of him at United?

13.) 18 Feb 2022 10:11:33
Regarding your point about “we should sign players who would start for Liverpool or Man City” isn’t that the problem Shappy?

You’re buying players based on who you think is good enough rather than whether they fit? Liverpool have signed players to fit a system and a philosophy.

By your measuring-stick, we wouldn’t have signed a relegated Andy Robertson and Gini Wijnaldum, a kid-table winger Mane, a suggested Chelsea reject in Sarah because none of them would have been deemed as good enough to play for the top 2 at the time?!

Forget Liverpool and Man City. Your club needs to put a rigid plan in place, a playing style and philosophy that’s clear for all and then buy players who best fit that philosophy and style.

Just my opinion mate.

14.) 18 Feb 2022 11:02:50
Excellent point smplfc. The problem a few of our fanbase have is they want a team they would put together on Fifa.

15.) 18 Feb 2022 13:14:08
So Ed are you suggesting we base our manager search on someone who can unlock pogba? After five years of looking for midfielders to help unlock this wonderful talent ( who puts a performance in when he can be bothered) your now suggesting we go and find a manager who can unlock him and then the manager who can unlock him can go and get some midfield partners for him who will also help unlock him! Most over rated footballer in world football!

{Ed0666's Note - what are you talking about stop putting words in my mouth. I didn’t say you should go and get a manager who can get the best out of him or go get players who can play with him.

16.) 18 Feb 2022 14:03:47
Tielemans a much better player than what we currently have available. I'd have him over Pogba.

He is the type of player klopp would take an turn him into an animal IMO.

17.) 18 Feb 2022 17:59:02
My mum is a better midfielder than those currently at Utd, nevermind Tielemens.

18.) 19 Feb 2022 00:20:23
You already have the Fifa team Ports but unfortunately the guys in charge weren't told about the importance of fifa chemistry :)

Apparently arsenal have been offered Di Maria, no idea if it's true, is there any interest from United and would that be followed up with a bid if he were to be made available?

I more of less thought we performed OK at the weekend, Luton are not a good team and we dominated them. If any of our front three were in anything more than awful goalscoring form at the moment we could've had a hatful.

Something that did stand out to me was I thought Reguilon had a good game and did we make more crosses into the box than we usually do?

Perhaps having Marcus on the right whilst he's not scoring means we'll see more deliveries as he can't just cut inside and shoot. That i think will benefit Hojlund, who I remain impressed by, I do really think once he gets one in the PL the goals will start to flow for him.

1.) 13 Nov 2023 11:25:45
We won. That's the best we can say.
Tough run of fixtures coming up after the intl break so I wouldn't get too excited just yet?
Just about every team is better to watch at the moment so let's hope that improves soon.

2.) 13 Nov 2023 14:12:01
Rashford should play right, and get his goals by getting into strikers positions at the back post frombleft side crosses. Sterling scores boat loads of goals by being fast and getting ahead of the full back on the back post for tap ins. It really should be a skill rashford could perfect.

As you say, he can also deliver better from that side, and also garnacho can get game time. If anthony was to play on the left we might even see him create something! It's like a win-win-win-win!

3.) 14 Nov 2023 12:06:19
In the last two games when Rashford has played on the right (albeit for a short time against Copenhagen) we have looked the most balanced we have as an attack in months.

Still not creating anywhere near enough chances, and the quality of the chances we do create tends to be low. Yet confidence or a lack of it and not having a stable team have massively contributed to that.

We've looked more stable in midfield when Mount has played ahead of Eriksen, but that does come with a big drop in creativity.

This squad does still feel like we are trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together to see the picture, yet we don't have all the pieces and the pieces we do have come from 4 different puzzles.

The squad needs rebuilding and uniting under one vision. Until then we probably need to focus more on being stable and not conceding to steady the ship, them build from there.

What did people think of Telles in his first PL showing?

I know the overall team performance was not top-notch but considering he has only played two games for us and has been excluded from training due to CV for a while I thought he looked good.

Noticeably his willingness to stay wide and overlap down the left and also his not always successful but attempted progressive forward passing looked promising.

I think with some more time he is going to prove a shrewd acquisition although it will interesting to see how he performs when given and more thorough testing defensively.

Early days but good early signs.

1.) 24 Nov 2020 12:31:06
He has an opportunity now to make that position his own. He looks a lot more dynamic than Shaw. He’s got goals and assists in his locker which we are crying out for right now so hopefully he builds on a decent performance last weekend.

2.) 24 Nov 2020 12:54:47
I think Telles had a decent outing in his PL debut. He does stay out wide and makes those overlapping runs. Although, there was one thing that i want to point out. There were several occasions when Telles had made that run to put in a cross but the ball never came to him, it was recycled backwards or towards the middle of the park. Sorry to say but most of the times it was Rashford doing that.

3.) 24 Nov 2020 14:40:29
Yes Shan. The more they play together, more they can understand each other's strength.

4.) 24 Nov 2020 15:09:32
Agreed TRD. My concern was that its not something new. Shaw too made some runs but again ball was played centrally.

5.) 24 Nov 2020 16:04:04
Rashford plays better on the right.
He has been doing this cutting inside and passing to the centre in a crowded space far too much, then the ball goes wide right to AWB and nothing comes off it.

6.) 24 Nov 2020 16:11:11
Shan,

The left back making a run on the overlap shouldn’t get the ball every time anyway or it becomes a bit obvious, that run pulls the full back out to mark and then there is naturally more space inside, so there is no problem with the off the ball run creating space.

Rashford was poor at the weekend and needs to be more clinical but I have no problem with him cutting inside when the full back has taken his marker away.

7.) 24 Nov 2020 18:24:02
I get you GDS. A team whose parts are playing their roles perfectly would understand that game plan. But how many times have we had an attack from the left this season? You could literally count it on your fingers. As Rohan says it has almost become a norm with Rashford. You know he will cut inside 9 times out of 10 and all the FB needs to do is cut that out and Rashford becomes null.
There is something wrong with Rashford since Feb. Either he is still injured, his head turned, being selfish or simply being poor.

8.) 24 Nov 2020 18:33:44
He did ok in an awful team performance. Nobody played well really apart from ddg.
Maybe he will imorove again tonight and with every game he plays. He has not played much recently.

Please tell me these rumors about LvG wanting Robben aren't true. He's a good player but getting on it bit and hits the deck too easy.

jd91

1.) Always scoring against us lol and better then any other winger we have

2.) I can see some logic behind it. If we go for the 4-3-3 which I'm sure we will we will need goal scoring wingers - Robben is very much that. He plays off the right which is Januzaj's best position, both of whom have similar characteristics. I think it would be the ideal player for Januzaj to learn from. Add to that his connection with RVP and possibly Strootman I think it would do wonders for the team.

3.) The problem is
1. Robben is 30 plays for a top team that will win there league and has a very good chance of winning the ECL. 3 months ago he was happy enough and the club was happy enough to give him a new contract.
Why would either robben or munich suddenly change there mind?
2. Adan would learn from him? I think you could argue his progress would actually be blocked.
3. Strootman is injured with a serious knee injury

4.) LVG will have plenty of chance to chat to him about it, he will know if he wants the move or not. And as players get older they need rotating. Adnan would have plenty of chances.

5.) Fresh
So is this the road we want to go down, rather than give youth a chance sign 30 year old superstars on big wages.
Over the next 2 year adan should be making that position his own he will struggle to do that with robben ahead of him.

6.) We can't afford to give youth a chance any more. We need to play the best players in their best positions. We screwed up last season because Moyes didn't know who to play and where to play them, once season of tinkering and it messes a lot up.

Robben looks head and shoulders the best player on the pitch every time I see him play. He would be great for 2-3 years whilst Janujaz matures. Perfect acquisition if we can get him.

7.) Arjen Robben is EXACTLY what we need.

8.) Beast
I couldn't disagree more .
Do we really want to turn into a team that can't afford to give youth a chance.
The type of team that doesn't build a team but buys established star names .
Buys 30 year olds on there way down on mega contracts before playing young players with the talent of adan.

Robben is exactly what we need?
Really we need a rw?
Or r we just buying any superstar that is available.
Whos next cole for lb
Xavi cm.

9.) Gagus
That last bit wasnt aimed at u

10.) Lets be honest we would all prefer a Reus, Draxler, Pedro etc, but if LvG does in fact want Robben and MU end up buying him, I wouldn't be too disappointed. Will BM sell? Well I am sure the editor has mentioned that BM would sell Robben. I am sure he would consider a move to MU. Question is does LvG want Robben?

Strootman has to be unlikely. He is injured. Is he good enough for what we need? I am not so sure. Personally I would want to see us aim higher than him. But again it comes down to what LvG wants to do. I'm sure we will sign Dutch players under LvG, but I am not sure they will be Robben and Strootman. We will know more soon enough.

11.) Syd
Would bayern sell?
Well every player has a price, especially when that player is 30. It would also give them money to go out and buy reus, draxler, pedro etc

12.) Jred, I could be wrong, but I am sure the editor said last summer and recently that many players will leave BM and he could be one of them. In a perfect world I'd go for Reus and Kroos, not Robben and Strootman.

13.) Syd
The idea of buying 30 year old "stars" is wrong imo.
In 2 years time they will need replaced will of cost a fortune in wages and we will be no better of than we are now .

14.) Yeah, I'm all for 22-26 year olds to be fair. let's see what LvG wants to do and hopefully pretty sharpish. I get the feeling Shaw is soooo close, I don't want us spending too much time on each signing. We have too much to do this summer, no time for penny pinching IMO.

15.) Jred - Don't get me wrong I am all for giving youth a chance if they are deserving and if we are secure. However we are currently in a whirpool that needs to be swam out of, only world class signings can do that at the moment.

Hernandez, Welbeck, Celeverly, Jones, Smalling, Rafael, Zaha, Nani, Anderson, they are the youth we have gambled on in recent years, where are they now? None of them have developed that's for sure.

We can only go for youth when we have a world class squad to break them in and to learn from. It isn't 1992 anymore, the game is global, the opposition is far tougher and unfortunately the youth we have are not delivering.

I have confidence in Janujaz. Others have it in Powell & Wilson and a few others (haven't seen enough personally), but we play 2-3 of them against top 10 and we get beat. We need to buy world class then concentrate on youth after, once the ship has settled in 2-3 years.

So Robben is perfect for me yes. Youth can be bled in over the next few years, but now we need the best or we fall further behind.

16.) I know, jred.

17.) Beast
Robben is 30 and struggles with injuries .
You want to buy a top player get one that could be here for the next 7/8 years that will also continue to improve.
Reus, pedro, sanchez, draxler.

We should of signed robben 10 years ago we never and that ship has now sailed imo.

You can buy top players and build for the future at the same time

agreed, we potentially can't afford to be overspending in some areas when we are in such dire need up front. Hopefully we can raise £35-40m from Harry without having an outlay on a replacement and earmark the money for bringing in a goal scorer.

Fred massively improved in the second half.

He was making me shout at the TV in the first, seemed like every other pass was wayward and he kept giving the ball away.

Once the ball playing duties were taken up by Pogba and Bruno started getting more touches, meaning Fred had to do lots less passing, the good parts of his game shone, he was tenacious and broke up play well.

A bit of a Jekyll and Hyde performance for us but not the first time that's been the case this season.
