is this too early to say but watching the last few games, are we beginning to look like a team? playing for each other, without having to rely upon moments of individualism?

Certainly more cohesive and tougher to break down.

Oh and a quick shout-out to Zirkzee, he is really growing on me, his performances are getting better and better, just a shame about his finishing but fingers crossed that will come, maybe!

I won't be getting carried away after one decent performance, but quite a few of them were much improved last night.
Still wonder, love him or hate him, where this team would be from a scoring perspective without Bruno. For all of the talk of 7-8 players leaving, maybe he's one someone might come in for. Can't say I'd be too keen to lose him atm.

Spenno,

Money talks, depending on our financial position in the summer, we may end up cashing our chips in.

3.) 14 Mar 2025 12:04:52
Soenno,

It’s not just one good performance though, last night has been coming for a few games, we should have won away at Sociedad, should have beat Fulham in the cup and definitely should have beat Arsenal, the players look up for the fight and despite a lack of quality in some areas they look like they care and are playing for each other. Bruno controlling the games from midfield has been a huge part of that and other players starting to learn the system. Seems to have lucked upon Garnacho on the right rather than the left as well (which actually happened last season around this time also) .

Ruben said we needed to go through the pain while the players learnt the system and I feel like he knows what he’s talking about. A perfect right wing back would add so much to this team and a goalkeeper that can make saves and doesn’t kick it out of play all the time. Oh and a striker that doesn’t go 20 games without a goal.

4.) 14 Mar 2025 12:34:59
That's a lot of shoulds in there GD! None of that counts if you can't put the ball in the net. Fortunately last night a few things that haven't quite ended in goals in recent games came good.

5.) 14 Mar 2025 13:25:50
Last night was a fantastic and well welcomed result. But if I am honest, I still wasn't overly excited by what I watched and found myself getting frustrated at times. However, it doesn't really matter at this point, it's a results business and we need as many positive results as possible from now until the end of the season and hopefully, sneak in the backdoor for the UCL. That would really aggravate some people which would be a double bonus.

My concern watching at the moment is we just seem to pass backwards to much when we could go forwards and at times, players look a little clueless as to what to do with the ball.

But, let's get to the end of the season and hopefully win this comp and maybe claw ourselves into top 10. We've seen how a natural left sided player can impact the team, 1 or 2 more positions and a good pre season and I think the future is looking bright.

6.) 14 Mar 2025 14:30:59
We look a whole lot better with quicker players in defence. Yoro, Heaven, Mazraoui. We can get away with one of De Ligt or Maguire, especially if they are in the centre. But when we've quicker RCB and LCB it means our wing backs can go further forward with confidence. The team looks much better when the wing backs push up as then the CM pair don't have to cover so much space. Especially in the case of Casemiro. We've a long way to go but at least we're starting to see why Amorim is persisting with his approach.

7.) 14 Mar 2025 15:21:09
I think there are promising signs.

Deleigt is starting to become a more commanding presence.

Bruno is adjusting to his new role, and showing a bit more positional awareness.

Putting Garnacho on the right was a great decision. It limits his inclination to cut inside into his right and shoot, and this makes him less predictable and harder to defend.

Zirkzee is benefitting from playing deeper. It allows him to link up play without the pressure of being the focal point.

Dorgu looks good, if a bit clumsy at times. But his work rate is excellent.

The young lad Heaven is very encouraging. Strong, quick, with a bit of nastiness to boot.

Even Casemiro looks less of a liability, albeit still moving like an auld lad after a hernia operation.

I wouldn’t get too carried away though. The effort is starting to show, but the quality is still lacking, and I’m not convinced the owners will stump up the funds required to push forward in the summer.

8.) 14 Mar 2025 16:25:47
We seem to be a team that needs a confidence boost, a belief they can wins games and get out of the rut they are in.

If we start seeing some green shoots by the end of the season I will be happy, a few additions in the summer and promoting from the academy and hopefully next season we will be most consistent.

9.) 14 Mar 2025 17:30:33
Dare I say it but I enjoyed going to a game for the first time I can remember in a while.

10.) 15 Mar 2025 01:46:09
Goals win games, not shoulds.

11.) 15 Mar 2025 12:39:50
Keefy,

Obviously, but the discussion was around performance and whether it was one good performance. It was the first time we have comfortably won a game we deserved to win but the signs of that happening have been coming for a few weeks, performances are on the up, Zirkzee suddenly looks like he can cause problems, Garnacho is improving and creating from the right, Casemiro and Bruno are doing well in the middle etc, it’s brilliant that in this game we got the goals but there is a bigger picture of performance. We have won games previously but been lucky, I’d rather we play well and win so that we can put a bit of a run together.

What I saw at Newcastle was Utd consistently giving the ball away trying to thread the ball through the eye of a needle or just not taking the necessary time to judge the pass correctly.

Rashford is rightly getting slated for his lack of effort but is he being told to stay loose and be ready for the counter, is Martial is Garnacho?

ETH has said he wants Utd to be the best team in transition and is that why we are constantly looking for the out pass that is cut out, 9 out of 10 times?

ETH does not seem to want to change shape or tactics, he hasn't changed anything and why I ask, as the current ideas are clearly not working.

1.) 04 Dec 2023 09:01:23
Garnacho should be the one out of those staying loose for the counter, he already has a better end product and football intelligence than Rashford. It’s time people saw through this oh he’s a local boy so is Man Utd and he will come thru it gimmick, he is overpaid and lazy, he does not put effort in, he does not run, he is not a role model or barometer for any younger player at that club, and it’s not for the first time and it’s not under the first manager he’s been like this, let’s not let a decent run last Feb fool us, as bad eggs go he is one of them, I don’t care if he was born on the centre spot of OT he is a big issue at this club, of course not the only one, there are several who should have left this club a long time ago and other bad eggs, but this club is in dire need need of players who can handle this club, players to lead the way for the younger lads or to galvanise the team on pitch when it’s not going well, at present what do Nacho, Mainoo, Hojlund have, a sulking Rash and a whining Bruno, yes injuries have hampered us but there is a big summer ahead and big appointments to be made under the SJR footballing side regime.

2.) 04 Dec 2023 10:35:26
I don't actually know anymore what it is ETH is doing in training, is it the players who can't get to grips or don't want to get to grips with what he is implementing (whatever that is) or is it that ETH isn't really that good? I really hoped he would be a success but when I look at Villa, Wolves Newcastle, Spurs, Brighton i'm envious of the football they play, the commitment, the work rate and I wonder is it all down to our poor players or more to it than that? As much as i'd be happy to see 6-7 players shipped out I have serious doubts about ETH ability to coach in the PL.

3.) 04 Dec 2023 17:29:14
It's pretty simple, those clubs you mentioned don't have a 350k a week star boy on their team who can't be bothered running, challenging or working hard. A player who is the worst player on the pitch on the most money and clearly is undroppable.

4.) 04 Dec 2023 20:21:03
And they have decent man managers, not a out of depth school teacher.

5.) 05 Dec 2023 04:25:20
Oh hi tripplelock, not seen you here before. Perhaps you know some inside info from the player's side? Perhaps you could pass on that the fans do not feel sorry for players that have to train hard, show up to training on time and actually run and press in a game. These players are disrespecting the fans and the club. End of.

It is being reported that current staff are worried for their futures if SJR bid goes through.

I should hope they are worried, as the senior management have hardly covered themselves with glory, in fact quite the opposite.

jrred3

1.) 16 Oct 2023 16:54:21
They should be more worried at the rate Jred's are multiplying.

Mass extinction coming and all that remains is a world of Jreds.

2.) 16 Oct 2023 20:20:06
Mumbles

Don't forget the many skins of Ken.

3.) 16 Oct 2023 20:21:38
Mumbles ?

Jred you need to use Google Password Manager or something, you've ended up with more alt accounts than MAZE!

4.) 17 Oct 2023 02:08:38
What if I told you jred, ken and Maze are all the same person ?.

5.) 17 Oct 2023 08:44:32
I'll come clean, I was jrred before jrred3, not jred and certainly not ken or Maze.

I occasionally post but have been a regular reader of the site since it's early days but cannot remember what my user name was back then.

6.) 17 Oct 2023 13:47:43
What if I told you that GDS2 Giggs to Sherringham along with Shappy and Ahmed are one of the same too…., strange ain’t it!

7.) 17 Oct 2023 16:09:59
You know, we could all be different personalities within the single mind of a rather tormented football fan - we could each be a part of Ken. :○.

totally agree Noucamp99, I was just in the middle of trying to say exactly what you have just said.

We have far too many players that are not upto the standard required for the premiership.

They may well look good in the leagues they have come from but the prem is a different level to what they have been use to.

SJR cutting more jobs at Utd, not at all surprised by this.

Since he has had control of the club, a lot of the press releases coming out of OT have had a very strong sense of; we are in debt, we simply must get our finances in order, we can't afford to carry on like this etc.

I feel this is meant to send out the message, we will not have our pants pulled down, over and over again, re transfer's and player contracts.

SJR said as much, that we have to reposition ourselves in terms of transfers and contracts and it will take time.

Good article Shappy but let's be honest, Utd are playing a 3-4-2-0, as we do not have a striker, we are effectively playing with 10 men. That is why we continually get over-run.

Bruno is also an issue, I love his work ethic and he has buckets of talent but he is continually out of position, giving the opposition multiple opportunities to exploit the neglected space.

I had hoped Mount would have provided serious competition for Bruno but alas he can't stay fit, so another £50M getting burned!

I know we need better for the LWB but I think if you can fix the issues up top. we will see a large improvement in our results.

993, I thought you were being tongue in cheek when saying "David Luiz would improve our midfield mobility no end". I didn't realise it was a typo, still chuckling to myself now!

the lack of goal threat is THE issue, of why we are in free fall. We need strikers, that is more than one, if we are to turn this around. Hoijlund gives 100% no doubt about that, which is a minimum of what we expect. Zirkzee is just not good enough for the EPL, not his fault and should never have been booed off the field.

Jose had this lot marked, he wanted rid of Martial, Rashford and Pogba, he knew he was not going to be able to mould them to his style of play.

You could point the finger at Ole, sit deep and hit on the counter and that is what this squad are best at but not what the present and the former managers want a team to be like.

Maybe over the next few weeks RA will get the chance for the coaching sessions he wants and with some of the younger players to join in, maybe.

What I do not want to see, is the team reverting to the counter attack, RA needs time and possibly a few additions to get on top of this and implement a controlled and positive way of playing.
