Seriously all you in the know blokes, you obviously feel the need to post i. e. Ronny will sign etc.
Now your massive ego must think I say therefore it will happen, you offer no word of "Yeah my mate he's Ronny's best best bro" or "I'm porking his agents mrs"
So from what planet do you think this snippet of foreplay is going to even be considered?
Seriously? You even think this is going to be taken seriously?

thiago whoa thiago whoa he signed a shirt, he made the itk's squirt thiago whoa thiago whoa

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm definitely not an in the know bloke but to answer your question. My brother used to play football for Hearts, we were in a pub in Dunfermline and another ex-Hearts player ( who later moved to the Championship) told us that Man U were interested in Thiago Alcantara. I watch quite a bit of Spanish football and think he will be a world beater. This was early March.
At the end of March I saw a news article, quoting Thiago's dad saying he needed first team football and was likely to leave Barca. So I registered here, been a long time reader but seldom posting and asked if we were interested actually asked 3 times and no reply but hey ho.
Admittedly this could be putting 2 and 2 together and making 5 but its a rumours site right? {Ed002's Note - Manchester United made offers to buy Thiago two years ago.}

Not directly related to United but I know a lot of you with be interested.

Graham Hunter has just said that "If those I trust have got it right, Isco is very likely to be in Manchester this weekend for a medical and in theory signing for City.

Scary news, but that could maybe influence Thiago further that the PL with us is the place to be next season? Although a deal is already considered to be more or less done. Big announcements in the next few days i'm sure.

So happy about our blue samarai kagawa's display was scared he would lose that special touch after the injury, kagawa has a unique footballing technique that we haven't had the likes of since a young scholes, so glad he a red devil player, not only got poaching skill but composure on the ball is superb no wonder barca was scouting him at dortmund

It's looking increasingly likely that we're going to sign Thiago - and I for one am chuffed to bits. Aside from the unlikely signings of Ronaldo or Bale - he's by far the player I'd most like to see signed.

I was hoping the Eds (002 in particular) could clear something up though.

Assuming there is any truth in there being a release clause and in turn that it is by that method we are set to sign him - am I right in assuming that there is no means by which Barcelona could insist on a buy back clause being included in the deal?

In 2 or 3 years time I see him being one of the best players in the world and also see Xavi retiring around that period. With that in mind I could see him considering a move back to Barcelona - and would hate to see him return for a trivial fee!

redseven {Ed002's Note - Barcelona can ask for anything they wish to be included as part of the negotiations but it does not mean they will get it. I would really not get so wrapped up in the "clauses" all of the time.}

just reading all the Alcantara rumours which seem to be snowballing, also just had a peek at the betting, he is very short odds to join 1-5 with sky. I truly hope we manage to get the lad think will be a massive coup. As far as chelsea's interest goes this happens every year they seem to wait to see who our targets are and try (successfully in most cases)to swoop in right back to the Kenyon days. Hopefully this time we get our man my fingers are crossed anyway :)

So lads, we've not really seen the money that we got for Ronaldo spent, it was probably used to help the debt, but if the Glazers put it away, knowing SAF would retire soon, and the incoming manager was to put it towards a marquee signing, to help them get the backing of the fans, do you reckon we could have a net spend summer of about 35-40 million plus a different spend for a marquee signing like bringing Ronaldo home? Just a thought guys! I was meant to post this a while ago but forgot, but would like to know what you guys think!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The money is likely to have been swallowed up elsewhere. That said I believe money COULD be made available if the Glazers felt it necessary to invest it - but can't see them doing so any time soon.

Just read the good blogs like Swissramble and Andersred and you will know exactly how the cash flow has taken place. The Ronaldo money has neither gone to debt, nor stacked in some cupboard elsewhere, it has been absorbed into the business just like any other incoming cash does.

No wonder Ed002 does not want to talk about money on here.

Arsenal fan here. well folks I think its the end of an era for you chaps, you will never replace fergie. kills me to say it but he was the master of the premiership but never mind you will soon be an everton. hehe.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

When did you last win something?

Agree0 Disagree0

What and b challenging yous and spurs for 4th spot ha? Get a grip fergie has put us in a strong position to be just fine and in moyes we have the next scot to show bazil faulty and his team of bottlers how to win leagues? don't even no why I replied you not even our rivals! United99

Agree0 Disagree0

I guarantee we will not go 7 years without winning a trophy, so we won't even be an arsenal! We will actually have a much better squad next season than we had this season. Of course it's an end of an era, but you are hoping beyond hope that means the end of united, and I can tell you now that it isn't.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah your right chum we might only score 6 against you next season instead of 8. Still RVP should be good for another 20 odd goals again. 8 years and counting.

Agree0 Disagree0

LOL. Arsenal fan talking about being the next Everton when you've won what in the past 8 years?

Agree0 Disagree0

Could be worse could be an arsenal.

Agree0 Disagree0

The summer transfer period hasn't even started and Moyes hasn't even played his first match for Manchester United yet an Arsenal fan (yeah an ARSENAL fan!) calls it the end of an era for us. Whatever happens, you can be sure that we won't spend 8 trophyless years ;).

Wow really has this post just happened? Arsenal fans! Yes Arsenal fans telling us it the end of a era! Sorry while ure predicting these crazy things please tell me who u have signed to make this assessment of a new dawn for your lot? A french division 2 striker? Possibly higuin who let's be honest wanted juve but they didn't want to pay the fee.
But then I guess wenger has given u plenty of hope over the last 8 years, wait! No he aint! Get in ure place goner, u are fighting it out with everton and spurs for 4th! We are fighting for trophies, Marcellas Wallace, u post so much drivel no one takes notice anymore.
These predictions ain't what's going to happen, its what u wish could happen, so climb off ure cloud, and get into the real world, because while we are getting linked with players barca would love to keep, and even try and float a Fabregas rumour to keep us away, u are buying a striker Madrid have wanted rid of for years and for 22m! So, I predict this time next season we won't hear from u again but u will still be crying over a lack of investment, a manager out of touch and why u didn't go for Moyes when u had the chance! Seems a bit more likely to me dnt u think?

Dylan

Fellaini is not worth £22m and more so is not the sort of player we need. He's overtly physical (to the extent where I would describe him as unnecessarily aggressive) and lacks any sort of skill. He gives the ball away too much for my liking and commits fouls more often than tackles. His bursting runs would be a nice addition to our team - but to me, he adds little more than that.

Chelsea entered the race to sign Thiago at the beginning of the week. This is Mourinho's first signing that has been approved by the board. The first player that he has asked the club for himself. Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jun 2013 22:08:53
If only it was that simple Alan. This is why ed002 doesn't get involved in money talks. For a start in england when your earnings exceed the lower tax bracket it is only the money over that tax bracket that is taxed at the higher rate. Everything below the tax bracket is taxed at the lower rate. Then there is all sort of loop holes and different things that can be done to bring taxes down. With a sole trader you can become a limited company then pay yourself a low wage taxed at a low rate, then pay yourself dividends as a share holder which are also taxed at a lower rate. I doubt footballers can declare themselves limited companies but if they can then they can bring their tax bill down like that. You also get tax breaks if you donate certain amounts of money to charity. And there used to be a clever clause where players would get paid in expensive artwork and cars but that loop hole has been closed now.

Ultimately unless you are a tax accountant and you know the ins and outs of all the european countries tax systems then yoh will never be able to work out exactly how much a player earns and how much more or less they could earn playing in a different country.

Yes money plays a part in a player choosing to go to a club, but there are many other factors. Playing time, playing style, a coach or player they would like to work with, a country or city they want to live in, their families preferances, lauguage barriers, playing position, certain league, european credentials, title asperations ect ect ect.

I just think its easier as fans to site money as the reason for a player not choosing their club. And more often than not they would be right. But there are a host of other potential factors too.

If we sign thiago and strootman I can see us playing a 4-3-3 with Carrick holding and strootman and thiago just above but the problem I see us having with a 4-3-3 formation Is, where to play Kagawa? He can operate on the left but as we all know his BEST position is right behind the striker, However last night for Japan we saw him play on the left but drift inside quite a lot so in affect he was playing behind the striker. I would just like to ask if we signed Thiago and Strootman, what formation would you play?

By the way I do know Thiago can okay as one of the 3 behind the striker but I feel his best position is deep.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

4-3-1-2 kagawa playing behind 2 out and out strikers, RVP and hernandez maybe or if hernandez isn't good enough bring someone in

Agree0 Disagree0

IMO we have 2 main options we could switch between if Rooney stays:

433 with Carrick/Stroot/Thiago in midfield then Kags (left) and Rooney (right) both playing off RvP as the main focal point,

or

4231 with Carrick/Strootman deep and Kags/Rooney/Thiago all behind RvP.

Both are quite similar really and whichever shape we play I expect to be fluid in any case - the likes of Kagawa, Rooney, Thiago and even RvP to interchange throughout.

Both formations are narrow though so would require width to be provided by full backs, so it would be nice to bring in Baines for the left and have Rafael bombing up the right.

When we need more width from the start or even during a match we have Welbeck, Valencia, Young & Zaha to choose from with anyone from Strootman/Kags/Thiago/Rooney having to make way to fit them in.

Agree0 Disagree0

As Rooney is probably going to stay I'll include him.
4231 with carrick/strootman + Thiago in the deep two. Rooney the middle of the three in practice with Kagawa wide left but free like Isco did for the u21 spain team. Then a winger who stretches the play he is free to go to whatever side, this player would need to be brought in imo, maybe di maria.
And RVP up top.

What a difference a season makes! At the beginning of the season, there were some who questioned De Gea, called for Lindegaard to be installed as our No. 1, talks about the availability of Begovic, etc. Now it's talk of how long we can keep De Gea for, and worried discussions as to whether he might be ever tempted back to his homeland.

The point of my post is not to message a "I told you so" (as I for one have to admit that I had some quiet doubts!) but rather to give wonderful credit to the lad. He could have let it effect him, buried his head in the sand, sulked and look to leave, etc. Instead he knuckled down, trained hard, didn't let it effect him and only 12 months on is now considered one of the best keepers in the world.

My only hope is that in 3-4 years time when De Gea is unarguably considered THE best keeper in the world, people do not forget the role a certain Mr. Eric Steele played in his development, at what is probably the most critical stage of David's career.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm so glad I stuck behind him 100% through and through, put my neck on the line a bit in the pub a few times and they were all the first people to jump on me when it went wrong but as last season proved especially the end of the season how good he really is, it's brilliant to say I told you so

He did look good didn't he Kloot, I think he needs to move to a Prem team where he'll play every week. Either that or a move to a lesser european league such as France or Portugal.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thibaut Courtois and Marc-Andre Ter Stegen will be better. Not being harsh, just being honest.

Agree0 Disagree0

Kloot, are you takling about Ørjan Nyland? I am from Norway, so I know a bit of him. He was incredible for Norway against Spain in the U-21 semifinals. However, he has just joined Molde (Ole's team), and I do feel he needs to play a bit in the Norwegian Premier League, as well as playing for a low-table PL-team, before moving to a top club, such as Manchester United. I have read that he is being linked to Roma, but not quite sure he is good enough right now. The talent is there, but he is not the finished article. A possibility could be him being De Gea's understudy, and when he eventually goes back to Spain, Nyland can be our new first keeper.

Good post! I had a few quiet doubts but I always remained positive. Looks like he's matured into a quality keeper with plenty of time for further develop.

Re: Eric Steele - I'm sure the most important person will never forget his input, that's DDG himself.

Agree0 Disagree0

Never doubted him whatsoever. Brilliant shot stopper from day one, still lots he needs to improve on but he came here to a different league and culture, one of the biggest clubs in the world and in goalkeeping terms he was little more than a toddler. His kicking and throwing is improving, once he learns to command his area he will certainly be one of the worlds best, he is already not far away and he will still make some big mistakes as he is young. As for noname and his Courtois and Stegen comments, football manager? Maybe they will become better players than De Gea. I really couldn't care less, we have a player who could be a brilliant keeper for the club for another 10-15 years ANd I love his tweets and interviews, there is no need whatsoever to cast envious glances at other keepers as we have a top top keeper.

Thiago and his father/agent arrived in manchester airport this morning to finalise his move to united should be annouced later tommorow along with kevin strootman already done deal and it also appears baines might also end up at united after refusing to sign a new contract extention. Note:this would not obstruct the possibility of a marquee signing as there is already funds set apart for that as a statement of intent from Man united to clear doubts of united fans in Moyes appointment but my sources does not know who the marque signing will be, but told me there will surely be an annoucement confirming a signing 2morow. I hope we see De Gea with at least 5 more seasons with us but as a matter of interest, how long do you see big Dave playing for us?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think until Casillas retires!

Agree0 Disagree0

I think it depends on whether he wants to go back home at some point in his career, at this moment he seems more settled than ever in manchester and is loving playing for us, add to that the likely arrival of thiago which will hopefully see him stay with us for a long time.

phil

Agree0 Disagree0

I honestly think he'l be around long term.
A lot of people get obsessed with players from latin countries always wanting to go home after a couple of seasons but that ain't always the case.
Pepe reina at the temple of doom springs to mind. he's been there nearly ten years and has been linked with a move back to spain regularly but seems settled.
de gea does seem happy and especially after his shaky form early in his time here seems to have settled quite well.
Heres hoping he stays 10years :)

BABY FACED ASSASIN

Agree0 Disagree0

There will always be that concern that foreign players will want to return home one day and with the potential of Big Dave, there will always be whispers every season especially as he improves every game.

I suppose the good thing with Big Dave is he came from Athletico Madrid and with no disrespect intended to AM, had he come from Real or Barca I think it would be harder to keep him due to their global attraction, success and history, Fabregas being a prime example.

I hope he is our GK into his 30's and perhaps if we get Thiago that would make him even happier in England but obviously it would depend on how long Thiago would stay around as well. The Premier League seems to be attracting top Spanish talent right now, Mata, Silva, De Gea, Michu and prior to this, Torress when he was good :)

You do get cases of foreign footballers finding their ''football home'', Cantona and Henry. Hopefully De Gea will be like this and with Legends like Van Der Sar and Schmeichel to follow, De Gea will want to emulate them.

So in conclusion GortonRed, I don't know :)

Agree0 Disagree0

A long time unless we are ever not succesful anymore. I don't think he would go to Real due to his Athletico past. Barca maybe if we were no longer challenging but I think he will stay until well into his 30's and finish his career back at Athletico.

question for ed, not united related
why england not playing in fifa confedration cup?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Because its the winners of the last World Cup, the host nation, and the six winners of the respective continental competitions, unless the winners of the continental competitions are the World Cup holders or the hosts, then the runner up plays (like Italy).

Agree0 Disagree0

You play in the confederations cup if you have won a major international tournament.

If a team meets two of the criteria then the runners up from one of the tournaments are picked.

Agree0 Disagree0

Because England didn't qualify.

The teams are

Brazil (Hosts)
Uruguay (Copa America winners)
Spain (Euro winners)
Nigeria (African Cup winners)
Japan (Asian Cup winners)
Tahiti (!) (Pacific Islands + Australia winners)
Italy (Euro runners up - Europe gets two spots)

It is sort of the Cup Winner's Cup for international teams.

Agree0 Disagree0

The teams playing are

Winners of the continents cups

African
Asian
North american
South American
European
Oceania

world cup

Hosts of next year world cup

England are none of those, so don't' qualify to play.

Just read down the site but can't see anything about it, did Kagawa play well?

Could he be world class based on one game?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Well last night he was superb, take the praise that Klopp has given him it does hint at possible world class could be on the horizon. Had some world class touches I thought

Agree0 Disagree0

Kagawa isn't world class based on one game. He's just world class. (I know world class is used to often but he just is!)

I think he showed what he can do with good players around him, much like he did at Dortmund.

Shame he has to scrag about with your midfield to be honest. Not the best move he made. ;-)

Love you long time GDS

Agree0 Disagree0

I would say its more based on his performances for Dortmund and Japan over the last few seasons and the glimpses of class he showed at United in his debut season.

could he be world class based on one game? that's just a silly statement GDS

Agree0 Disagree0

Nowhere near world class yet but has the potential to be.

I see people on here still don't get sarcasm. Every single post below mine is about how good Kagawa was last night and what an amazing player we have on our hands. Obviously my 'been reading the page but can't see anything about it' was lost on some people. Apologies for trying to make a joke.

I know he isn't world class after one game, that's what I was getting at, he is going to be great for us next season though. I posted a month or so back how I felt Kagawa would benefit most out of the whole squad with fergie leaving, he had no idea what to do with him or how to play him and he didn't fit into the old fashioned 4-4-2 with wingers fergie insisted on sticking to (especially when Valencia was playing).

We will see a different Kagawa under moyes, and hopefully he can kick on and be a fantastic player for us this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

GDS, I think a lot of it had to do with SAF getting to fully know the player, his abilities, strenghts, weaknesses, etc. It was also to give Kagawa time to settle into a totally new environment. He did start playing a lot better towards the end of the season which was very encouraging. I agree though that SAF did not play him where he would have been most effective.

J Bones.

P. S. I thought your OP was very witty, but you had to ruin it with your snide reply. If you don't mind me saying I think you need to lighten up a bit GDS. Let go of all those negative thoughts, breathe in a bit of fresh air and clear your mind.

Agree0 Disagree0

J Bones,

My reply was not 'snidy' was it? It was clear that nobody got my original post! If it came across that way it wasn't meant to be, I was more being aplogetic that my joke fell flat!

Maybe I do need to lighten up, I don't mind you saying, but on this post I wasn't deliberately being like that, sorry pal.

Wow! J Bones! Take a look in the mirror mate!

slight bias because we're both Spanish but I don't think I've ever seen him have a bad game in the 50+ games he's had for Sampdoria.

Enjoy your evening guys.

The Moon"""
dear mr moon
ngiak can't comment much about this obiang guy
but the moment you mentioned sampdoria. ngiak has serious doubts
the italian league is so very poor
technical ability was their forte. but now? ngiak has his doubts again
ngiak can't keep awake for 10mins at a stretch watching an italian league game
ngiak believes that the italian junior levels are all suffering in terms of talent and quality development
yes, there have been a smattering of self proclaimed italian wonderboys
but in that league. well.
the spanish league has improved by leaps and bounds and they are attracting the best players and have many quality teams doing well in european club competitions
the national team are flying and the junior teams are also following suit
ngiak believes there is no bias. the spanish players are really better
gan

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Well Gan,

Either try and see him play or do the unthinkable and watch Youtube.

he's a sensational player!

The Moon.

Agree0 Disagree0

Penguin what is going on? I have never seen him play, but to doubt a player because of the league they are in is rather ludicrous! PS You are aware Italy did reach the finals of the U21s are you not Gan?

Kagawa and Honda are beasts. They make Italy look mediocre. Tough loss for Japan.

For those who couldn't catch the Japan v Italy match I just want to tell you all about how well Kagawa played. He was the best player out there even though Japan lost. He played on the left but drifted in a lot. He looked sharp, he was quick, his passing was excellent, scored a stunning volley and his link up play with Honda was a joy to watch. He may not have had the best of seasons last year but if he puts in performances like this one consistently then we will have a truly world class player on our hands.

Kagawa was a beast defo got to give a mention as well to nagatomo the guy never stopped running

Ozzy, couldn't agree more. Fantastic performance by Japan and especially kagawa. If we play him in his correct position, then he can run games.

I've been umming and ahhing over one player this season who everytime i've seen him play he has impressed me.

We do always tend to look to sign players with premier league experiance rather than loads of untested players.

Now with someone like Thiago looking a possiblity then I would suggest we need someone who is a strong presence in midfield.

With this in mind how would people feel about making a move for Morgan Schneiderlin?

He has easily been the best DM in the premier league last season. He would offer a good long term option to Carrick. And a midfield three of Carrick Schneiderlin and Thiago would be very strong both physically and tactically.

So what is everyones opinion of Morgan Schneiderlin?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

20 Jun 2013 02:30:46
He's played one season in the prem and most of that in a relegation battle in a team trying to adapt to a higher standard. I think he needs to spend one more season with southampton to see how he does, whether he is the real deal or if there's any second season syndrome. I'd rather have strootman in all honesty.

Agree0 Disagree0

Morgan Schnyderlin looks a great prospect;)

If you look at his stats, Schneiderlin is a pretty underrated playef. He was Southampton's best player by quite a margin. He was in the top 3 in terms of interceptions and tackles per game in the league. his passing, while not the most spectacular, is assured. To be honest i'd rather have Strootman even though Schneiderlin would be more useful in his first season here but the former has world class potential while I don't see the later reaching any levels above Carrick

Mick

Agree0 Disagree0

Morgan Sneiderlin was the player who made the biggest impression on me last season in his position, a much better player than the vastly overated Strootman and we know he can hack it in the premier league.
Raffa

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Shappy. Every time I have watched Southampton he has been their best player. I believe Arsenalare sniffing around him.

Agree0 Disagree0

I've been thinking about this one too!

I think he needs another season or 2 though, I mean when Blackpool were in the EPL Vaughan was clearly one of the best DM.

at Wigan a few years ago Lee Cattermole was brilliant.

so, I would see how he does this season but he could be a great little buy.

The Moon.

Agree0 Disagree0

Good to see a different name on here. Looked a pretty good player in the games I watched. I don't think he is ready to step up to a big club yet and with the money at SOuthampton think his best move is to not move and develop at Southampton for a season or two. I agree with Moon really, get a few of these types of players burst through and look good as youngsters in central midfield but there are a lot of them become Cattermoles, Gibsons and the like. Good reliable players for mid table teams, whether Schneidrlin is above that level or not time will tell, but I think he would be a massive gamble for any team in the top 6 currently.

Keisuke Honda. Won't be renewing his contract with CSKA Moskow, not a bad player at all. Worth a look at maybe?

Ok guys, just returned home after two weeks away keeping our world leaders safe, or lying sleeping in the sun, depending on your point of view.

What have I missed?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Well, Shappy has now progressed to posts that resemble War and Peace (no offence Shaps), Gan/ngiak appears to have banged his head, Dylan apparently doesn't rate Strootman, Sydney has been getting a bit of stick, my cat now has views on other posters, MOTD fever continues to be a problem, everyone appears giddy over Thiago (including De Gea), Percy is still missing, same old same old really

Well Androcles has pulled a thorn out of Kloots foot and he has become happy and positive once more.

No one asks Sydney anything anymore.

The affair between ed002 and the Moon has finished leaving the Moon sore and feeling used.

GDS has been arrested and charged with attempted murder of some window replacement man called Malcom.

Man Utd have signed Messi for 200m and we left stunned a week later when Messi announced his retirement as he doesn't like playing in the rain.

Snijjjediier has announced he wants to come to Manchester but as and english teacher so he can teach everyone to spell.

Bale will be moving to wigan on the request of his grandma, she wants him to go back to his welsh roots. His move there for to Wigan Warriors should go through any day now.

Sir Alex Ferguson is having ground breaking surgary where his brain will be transplanted in to a new body. Oddly David Moyes hasn't been seen for several weeks.

Rooney has announced his new found love of ballet, his ballet teacher calls him twinkle toes.

And I have returned from the Download festival a new man, and have decided to keep all my posts short and sweet from now on.

Or maybe my medication has ran out and i've started living in a fantasy land again. Lol.

Brilliant first half by Kagawa, he plays great out left for Japan but I still think he'd excel further playing as a no. 10.
