The more I think about it, the more I believe we could be closer to a Moyes sacking than many may think.

I live in Dubai, and I was driving home yesterday looking at the various billboards depicting United players as dashing, invincible heros, advertising a myriad of products and thinking to myself how incongruous this now seems given the current state of the club both on and off the park.

It's not impossible that Moyes could turn this whole thing around and I really hope he does, but you can see from this site over the last few weeks how those that are prepared to defend him are getting fewer and fewer in number. The same reduced conviction about Moyes will be happening amongst the worldwide fan base, the players, the directors, the shareholders (including the Glazers)and the sponsors. If a huge improvement in results is not seen in the next four or five games the whole situation could become irreversible for Moyes with top players not prepared to join us and our best players contemplating leaving, sponsors starting to desert us (or not being prepared to pay the same rates as before), share price falling and the more fickle overseas fans shifting to support teams that win and play good football like Arsenal.

Moyes may have a six year contract but the Glazers will not sit back and watch a brand that reached a valuation of $3bn, dwindle to a few hundred million. If they do, what an opportunity for the club to be bought by people who really care for it like the Red Knights!

Real Mad Red

1.) I live in Dubai too but can't place any off the billboards you are talking about and amused that people think a global brand is doomed for a poor season if that is what we end up with.

Yankees did not make the playoffs this year with the biggest payroll in baseball because of an aging team funny enough but still are and will remain the biggest brand there is in baseball.

Dm is not going anywhere in the short term and people should just get used to it. The only difference between this years team and last year is RVP basically carried us last year and we had timely goals from other players. The strikers are doing very little from open play at the moment and we are getting no contribution from the rest of the team.

Top players will always join united and quite silly to make such statements. If a team like Spurs can go out and retool their entire squad with no CL football then I would never worry about players not wanting to join us.

It is quite sad how our own fans are putting the club down like we are some two bit outfit. I can accept and agree that some of the players are not good enough and we can all have a view but the other stuff is completely going overboard.

2.) There are big differences between the value of a baseball franchise and a football club. 1. Baseball's global audience is small compared to football, 2. There is no relegation in the franchise system 3. There's only one competition per year. 4. Baseball is a sport which has been built around maximal in-game advertising 5. There are many fewer baseball teams than football teams competing for the same $. 6 The Yankees have an enormous local market, with only 1 team (the Mets) to challenge them.

Because of the global reach of a football, a succession of poor seasons with no qualification for the ECL will devalue United's franchise far quicker than a few poor seasons for the Yankees.

3.) I think you too should meet up and have a date.

4.) Shahram,
you say the top players will always want to play for us even with no UCL football and cite spurs as an example which is fair enough but players see spurs as an exciting team on the up with a young, talented manager and a young, talented squad.
How do you think we would be seen by those same players currently? would playing the current dull, defensive and depressing football we've been playing make you want to sign for us? Would the prospect of playing for a manager who so far has looked painfully out of his depth fill you with excitement? Again, no.
Like I said the other day, I admire the fact you back moyes and I do want him to succeed but at the moment we may appear to be less of an attractive proposition than you may think.
Im not slagging the club off but giving an honest opinion on what I see at the moment, dull, clueless performances from a team managed by a dull, clueless manager. You may see things differently but performances don't lie and although I agree that this rot has been setting in before moyes came, he hardly inspires does he? we have no leader to rally round in these worrying times and despite some of the least creative football iv EVER seen us play in nearly 40 years we can't find room to accomodate the likes of zaha and kags! If you had no allegiance to our club would you rush to join us in our current state? i'd suspect not.
Im not having a go shahram because youve made some good points over the time iv been on this site and I agree with a lot of the things youve had to say but I can't agree with you on this and everything points to the demise of liverpool 20 yrs ago for me and a repeat of that without some kind of major changes with or more likely, without, moyes.

5.) Peashooter

So are you now saying we are going to have years of poor seasons and diminish as a brand.

Liverpool have not won the league for over 25 years and CL football for the past 3 seasons. Do you think Chelsea is a bigger brand than them based on your theory?

6.) Noname

Many on this site know even before we started on this poor run, I did not rate this team highly and was livid with our summer transfer dealings and at the end of the window mentioned the players better step up and some need to have career years if the team was going to perform.

What has happened in reality is we have an out of form/shape Kagawa, Welbeck has not improved one bit, Ferdinand has been awful, Giggs looks finished, Rafael was out with an injury and just getting back to form, RVP is definitely not right, Cleverly has been out with niggling injuries and now a calf problem and they can turn into season long problems, Anderson is the same useless Anderson and Young what can I say and Fellaini looks like he runs in slow motion and when crowded very clumsy.

Vidic and Carrick are one year older and still our most consistent players.

On the positives Rooney is fit and Janusaj is positive surprise. Nani is better and so is Valencia compared to last year but that is not saying much given their last season form.

Jones and smalling are were they were last year and so no change.

Our football has been Dull for almost 3 years now and we can all sh. t on the manager and blame him for everything that is wrong or accept we have player issues. On top of this he was handed the Wayne Rooney fiasco to sort out in the summer window and to this date Rooney can't bring himself to say he wants to be here and sidesteps the question by saying he is concentrating on his football.

Is all well at the club, no it is not and I believe there is friction in the squad and the dressing room.

Is Zaha better than Valencia and Nani, obviously not because they see him everyday and not stupid. Take Lamela who can't get on the pitch for Spurs. at the moment ad by all accounts everybody raved about him and he played in a top league before coming over. Does that make ABV clueless?

How many times did people moan about Fergie's substitutions or tactics because by many people's opinion he was not the best in those areas but we won because we had better players.

Winning generally hides a lot of flaws and the players at the moment are not performing. Too many selfish stuff, loose passes and poor delivery in the final 3rd.

Finally, as long as the funds are available, I have no doubt top players will join us. We need to be realistic in terms of targets and willing club that wants to sell and will not be able to sign key players from the likes of Real/Barca/Bayern/Dortmund/PSG when they are not available.

7.) Forgot to mention every team in the league has improved and not many easy games out there with a squad that has vey little creativity or pace in it's spine.

Well now that more than a day has passed since the realization that we really have played a shocker in the window and that the reputation on United has been sullied, it is time to look forward rather than back.

Realistically, the league is a stretch this year and more than likely we will be trophyless. But as long as we stay in the CL, the season will be ok. There was always going to be choppy waters after Fergie and Gill left. Admittedly, those waters in the window have been Cape Horn-like but lessons will be learnt and if Woodward really is incapable of making the grade the Glazers will not hesitate to make the necessary changes.

The squad is strong. Now the window is closed, all players can be considered for selection. I'm of the view that Kagawa and Hernandez were the subject of transfer activity and therefore not really considered for selection until now.

I still remember how Fellaini terrorized us a couple of seasons ago. I think he could well rise to those kind of levels with renewed motivation. Plus Moyes knows how to use him for differing opposition challenges.

Just browned off that there's another international break to delay us getting on with brushing aside opponents week after week. Three consecutive victories and our recent woes will seem like ancient history.

Real Mad Red

1.) I think you'll find that's only 2 games in a row.

2.) The league is a stretch? Possibly on your planet. We walked it last year with a disinterested Rooney, a very poor Valencia, and a very new Kagawa. Assuming Wayne's head is sorted (mentally), Shinji gets a run, Valencia already looks better, Fellaini slots in, and we start playing some youth, I think we are a match for anyone across 38 games.

3.) AJH I wish I had your optimism mate we have created nothing for the forwards in the last 2 games.i never get excited in transfer windows whatever happens, but I think without that creativity that's missing were going to struggle this season.we won last year but hand on heart you must admit we wernt attractive to watch and got away with murder, that won't happen this time, an ageing gerrarrd and a few young kids run rings round our midfield on sunday.

The only fact that matters is that Man U are the biggest club in the world with 650 million supporters worldwide. That's 10% of the world population and equivalent to the US and the EU population combined.

How did this happen? Because the club has an aura and a reputation for having the most charismatic and talented players, playing swashbuckling football.

The Glazers have bought the right to be the custodian of the brand and are trying to carry off a very risky strategy of exploiting the brand through maximum commercialisation to pay down their debt whilst investing minimally in new players. Under SAF it worked (at least domestically) because the man is a genius. Witness not just what he did for us but what he did for Aberdeen who did nothing before came and have done nothing since.

We can't expect any other manager to replicate what Ferguson did. That's no lack of faith in Moyes who is as good a choice as we could have made, just a reflection of the uniqueness of SAF.

As such, we have to spend big now to move towards Bayern, RM & Barca. The tactical genius of SAF almost papered over the cracks against RM last year until Nani got himself sent off but there is not denying the gulf beteen us and these three teams is very significant. If we don't spend big soon, the result will be that a generation of kids will become supporters of one of these clubs and our position as the greatest club in the world will come under threat.

If they won't or can't spend big then the Glazers should cede custodian rights to someone else. We will have a very good idea if this is the case by 11pm on 2nd Sept.

Real Mad Red

1.) Man U. KLOOT will not be happy.

I think we all need to take a collective chill pill. MU are still a huge draw for the world's best players and we have a stack of cash. So if there were no 'grand plan' we would have seen three or four reasonable signings by now. I think this 'grand plan' is just waiting for the Bale to RM deal to be finalized (its been agreed in principle for weeks otherwise Spurs could not be spending like a WAG buying handbags). So I still stick with predictions of Ronny, Fabregas and Mata (swap deal for Rooney) although it sounds like Ozil is on his way so the Fabregas prediction may not come to pass. Fellaini and Baines too if the price is right. Then Moyes can say he has stamped his mark on the squad even though Fergie will have had loads to do with it.

Real Mad Red

1.) The chill pill idea sounds great. Personally I think Madrid will sign Bale and then either, they will allow Di Maria, Khedira and Ozil or Modric to leave, or they will allow Ronaldo to leave. If we sign Ronaldo, we will win the league, we will just score too many goals. Equally, if we sign Khedira, Di Maria and Ozil, I think we will win the league.

2.) Dont want di maria he's over rated and spends more time rolling around ground than actually being productive and we don't need wingers we need central midfielders

I think there are some serious clues to the next two weeks in what's been happening recently.

Spurs are spending like a drunken sailor (Willian 30m the latest strong rumour). If the Bale deal was not a certainty they would be risking their very existence. So Bale to RM must be a done deal.

Unused subs and players not in squad also provide clues, I feel. Mata, Luiz, Chicarito.

So Bale to RM, Ronaldo to MU, Chica to RM or Barca, Mata in exchange deal with Rooney?, Luiz to Barca, Fabregas to MU.

Sorry - not so much rumours as pure speculation. I just have the feeling the last two weeks of the window are building up to be spectacular. {Ed004's Note - I honestly can not see United signing all 3 of Fabregas, Ronaldo and Mata but if it happened I'd even forgive David for taking his time with signing players.}

Real Mad Red

1.) Even one of Fabregas, Ronny or Mata would be good ;)

2.) Ronny would be financed by Chev & Nike, Mata would be an exchange for Rooney and Fab would be our cash. So probably feasible. Who says dreams don't come true?!

3.) Could you imagine it Ronaldo, Fabregas Mata/Ronney Rvp. I would start to believe again. dreams {Ed004's Note - honestly I do not think this is likely at all. Though if true I reckon it would be a 4231 with Carrick and Fabregas the deep lying play makers, Evans/Smalling beside Vidic which enables us to play a high line as there speed will cover for Vidic then Kagawa, Rooney/Mata ad Ronaldo behind RVP}

4.) I am convinced Ronny or Fabregas will be with us before the end of the window, but we still need the enforcer in midfield. Is Fellaini that man? Baines is a good left back but Contrao IMO is the better option. I sincerely hope I`m right about Ron or Fab, otherwise chelski or the noisy firm will be next PL champions.

5.) I can't see us ever buying a player and it being financed by a sponsor. And why would a sponsor put the money up, it doesn't matter who United buy we are 100% high profile and no player would increase this and a sponsor would gain nothing.

6.) Can't see any of these happening. We can't even buy baines and fellaini.
So mata, ronaldo, fabregas is Not going to happen.
Nomidfield

7.) A sponsor may fund a transfer. After all why not. Chevrolet sponsor United so people see the badge. If United sign Ronaldo, then more people watch the games, buy the shirt, and therefore more people see the Chevrolet badge. Nike sponsor United and Ronaldo for the same reason. The more people watch Ronaldo and United then all the better for Nike. Personally I don't think we will sign Ronaldo, and I don't think we will get Fabregas either, but I genuinely think we will sign one of Ozil, Khedira, Modric, depending on who wants to leave and who Madrid want to sell.

Spot on about Vidic and the rest of the post. Too many of the current team are just going through the motions because they know they will not be here next season. The so called transition needs to happen at a slower pace as we can't afford seven players at 20-40 million which is what we will have to pay. Trouble is very few of the squad seem to have faith in Moyes.
