Hello guys,

Chelsea fan here in peace. I watched the match with my two best friends who are both die-hard United fans, and after the match they were both fed up with Ole, so I was wondering what your take on Ole is at this stage. I'm by no means a football expert, but the way I see it Ole is simply just tactically inept. It seems like he's just hoping the players play well and turn up for the match, but whenever they don't he doesn't seem to have a clue what to do.

{Ed0666's Note - I think you’ll find most of the United fans here would gladly club together and buy Ole a one way business class ticket on Norwegian Airways back to Molde.

You hit the nail on the head and I think it’s quite telling that even rival fans can spot his tactical ineptitude despite not having to endure it week in week out.

Ole genuinely seems to have no preferred style of play and the way that he sets the team up for big games is often a little baffling. What makes it more so is that our players quite often look like they aren’t sure of their role in these formations which can lead to them getting caught out of position quite often and the team getting caught out as a whole when facing set pieces. I’ve never been a fan of managers who constantly shuffle around formations, but if you’re going to do it, you’ve got to make sure that it’s worked on in training and that the players know where they’re supposed to be when we’re on and off the ball and defending set pieces. Right now it doesn’t seem like that’s the case at all.

What bothers me the most is Ole’s in game management which seems non existent. He’s slow to make changes (he loves to wait until the 60 minute mark) and often when he does they don’t make sense. He continues to put his faith in those that aren’t performing rather than players who have shown that they can make a difference and a lot of the time his changes lead to the team losing its shape and large gaps forming. The comebacks in our last few league games might suggest otherwise, but putting our best players on the pitch and and in their best positions is common sense, not tactical nous. We’ve played our best football this season with a 4-1-2-3 formation (whatever you want to call it, but 1 holding mid) and yet we still line up with 2 holding mids most weeks. Again, reverting back to a formation that works for us after we go two or three goals down is an example of Ole’s genius.

The one area where he hasn’t done too badly is transfers, but I’m not sure how much of a say he has in that area (the VDB signing would suggest very little) . Worryingly though, a lot of the signings that started brightly have slowly regressed under Ole’s management, AWB and Maguire in particular. I worry that the longer he stays, the worse the team will become. It’s hard to think of any players who’ve improved under Ole. You could perhaps argue Greenwood and Rashford, although neither have looked great this season so it could just as easily be argued that their natural progression has also been stifled.

I’ll always respect Ole as a person and as a player. As a manager however, he doesn’t have what it takes and has shown no sign that he ever will. None of his weaknesses seem to be improving and our style of play seems to be getting more and more defensive each week. It’s worse than watching Jose’s United in that regard because at least he set up his defense to actually defend. The sooner he’s gone, the better.

If you look at the polls taken in here i think a month ago 85% wanted ole fired now that's up around 95% i'd imagine.
Not many left now supporting him with any confidence. He is not up to the job imo we just have to wait and see.

Thanks Ed! I figured that was the reason, but it's nice to get it confirmed. Have a nice evening!

Chelsea fan here in peace as my best friends are all United fans. I'm kinda curious as to why Nice fans seem to be strongly against their player moving to United, could you perhaps explain that Ed? Or maybe anyone else who would know?

Chelsea fan here in peace.

There's no denying that what Greenwood has done is absolutely disgusting and vile. Domestic abuse and rape has no place in the modern world. However Salford, your comments of why she would just put up with it and not leave him are out of place and naive at best.
Having seen my best friend being in an abusive relationship, I can tell you that leaving is easier said than done. The abuse never starts immediately, it is a process which enables it to become the new norm in the relationship. Many people in abusive relationships are either too afraid too leave, or in my friend's case, too in love with the person to realise that something is wrong.
Furthermore, assuming that the rumours of the club knowing about it since 2020 are true, which I genuinely don't hope is the case, then it would also go a long way towards explaining why she posted it on social media, as she might be afraid the club would find a way to cover it up if she went to the police.
