If the falcao transfer does happen, should we expect rooney to drop in midfield?

master_nigel

1.) Probably, but keep an eye on Van Persie's operation.

2.) I don't think he's good enough to play in midfield. I think he'll partner Falcao up front with RVP taking his usual spot on the treatment table this season.

3.) That's what's great about the options we have. Mata is injured so Rooney would replace him with RvP and Falcao upfront. When Van Persie is injured Rooney will partner Falcao upfront with Mata in the hole. We have several options in attack.

It's just midfield/defence where we are weak. Also RWB.

4.) RVP operation? surely tht is just media trash trying to come up with a story!

5.) Syd - I do love the strength of our attacking options - but at present our best six outfield players all play in the same three positions (based on our current formation) and half of our signings this window are left backs.

6.) Not really R7. Di Maria was signed to play LM. Rooney, RvP & Falcao can play as strikers, although Rooney is a drifter so is better as a 2nd striker. Mata plays in the whole. Herrera can play RM.

Shaw is a LB. Blind is a defensive midfielder who can play LB and CB. Rojo plays CB for Sporting and can play LB. We play with three CB's, Rojo will play on the left. Shaw LB/LWB. Blind DM or CB.

7.) Given the amount we paid I don't understand why we didn't just sign a left midfielder. I know he's played there in the past - but that was to accommodate other players rather than because it's his best position. He's a winger - and failing that is a better number ten than left midfielder.

8.) Di Maria definitely stepped up a level since playing more central R7. He was told before he signed he would be playing there in a 352 and the Burnley game proved that. It could always change, but I don't think it will.

9.) I don't think he looked any better last season than the two before it. His stats might have been better - but a lot of that is down to the players ahead of him when playing centrally.

His key attributes are his pace and dribbling skills which are wasted playing deep due to the nature of the premier league (ie, teams seem to crowd the midfield). He's a little lightweight too - which doesn't suit the position.

I imagine we told him that we'd be playing him on the left of midfield because that's the only place we could fit him in. I think he'd be more useful as rwb but imagine that probably isn't too appealing to him.
