Looks like elanga is off to Newcastle. I'm surprised we didn't look to bring him back, I always liked the look of him and he would fit into one of the 10s that were looking for. i'm sure we had a buy back or sell on fee so could have been an easier deal to make.

He's nowhere near the level of Cunha or Mbeumo.

Elanga going could help get Mbuemo over the line with the money we’ll receive.

And we are nowhere near the level of Newcastle DonRed. I wonder who is better off.

What are you on about Kurtis? Just a complete non sequitur.

Maybe it was a non sequitur, but I think its worth asking—are we in a position to scoff at players like Elanga when we’re not even competing at Newcastle’s level?

Fair point kurtis.

The original question was whether we should have gone for Elanga as it would've been an easier deal. We are close to securing not just one, but two signings at similar fees that are substantially better players. If you lads want to scoff at the club then fine, but Newcastle are overpaying by a lot here.

Would hardly say they overpaid. Ranked third in the league for assists, is 23 years old and let's not forget ran through our whole team to score against us. We have paid a lot more and received a lot less in the past.

I agree Kurtis, but him coming back would present its own issues. He is going into a highly functional team at present and it's a better move.
We, I think have paid slightly more for 2 players that are better and we have already seen Elanga in red. It's not for everyone.

Never rated him to be honest like the poster further up said he's nowhere near the quality of Cunha and Mbuemo.

Decent player. He was perfect in Forest’s system. Not sure he’ll be quite as effective at Newcastle.

You watch elanga out do the both of them next season. Yeah he's not the fancy name and we've had him before, but there is a seriously good player there and by the time he's the age of the players he's not better than, he will be better than them.
Newcastle will challenge next season with a front 3 of gordon, elanga and isak.

I think Newcastle and Eddie Howe are the perfect move for him.
He's a talented player no doubt, but he isn't an elite talent. He is however very hard working, humble, and understands how to play as part of a team.
Which should make him a perfect fit for this Newcastle team under Howe. He'll challenge Murphy for a starting spot on the right and will likely win that battle. While they will have Gordon and Barnes fighting out for that starting spot on the left.
What they really need now is either a young up and coming striker to act as an understudy to Isak or an older squad striker who can rotate with him.
They look like they will get James Trafford which gives them real competition in goal with Pope as well.
They have good options in midfield, and in defence. They maybe could do with a younger CB to come in and add competition. They were linked with Guehi, and he'd be phenomenal for them, but he looks like he might be off to Liverpool (which frankly is terrifying given their other signings so far this summer) .
Newcastle are quietly building an excellent squad, one built on hard work, with a strong team ethic, but also with bags of talent.
{Ed001's Note - have you seen him play? He is not humble by any means and certainly does not understand how to play as part of a team. That was the big problem last season that saw Forest drop off so badly. He got too big for his boots and tried to do everything himself, wasting so many good opportunities for them.}
