What a day. It's still not sinking in that Alex won't be here next year. Bringing back every memory of United I have had since the age of seven. What an amazing 20 years of joyous moments he has given me and many others. When he spoke today tears streamed down my face as the realization of this great era coming to end was there on the hallowed pitch of Old Trafford. And what a scene it was. Sadly I could not be there but it was wonderful occasion even to witness on TV. Now the memories of Cantona in the FA cup final against Liverpool, that night in Barcelona in 1999 and Robin Van Persie's wonder volley against Villa a few weeks ago will forever live as the epitome of the greatest era this club has ever known and the greatest manager we will ever know. We salute you boss, now have a wonderful retirement!

Eds, who do you think will be David Moyes first summer signing? Thanks
Red devils 4 life {Ed004's Note - I am not sure. Probably the club targets that have been worked on for months. So Zouma, possibly Baines, Strootman, Di Maria, Rodriguez, Lewandowski etc}

Great and historic day.

Goosebumps at the reception given to Scholesy when he came off, and a lump in my throat during Fergie's speech.

Don't think it'll really hit home until the first game of the new season, and the great man isn't there on the touchline.

All the very best Sir Alex, thanks for the memories, and enjoy your retirement.

ps. big respect to the Swansea fans today. I was standing right beside them, and they were very gracious in their reception for Fergie, respectful of the occasion, and most of them to a man, stayed on to watch the trophy presentation.

It has been a great day, days like this are days we shoud remember as you never know whether this will be the last. I waited many many years to be there in the Stretford end in May 93 when Blackburn came to town. Today the flags were a good idea and we did it right, one of the great occasions and we have been lucky to have a few.
Today I spoke to the other season ticket holders around me and none of them can understand the Moyes appointment but we all agree we are completely stuck with it and will get behind him. Saying that we all wonder if a day like today will happen for at least three years. In fact, enjoy today because you never know when it will happen again. It is interesting that SAF felt it necessary to mention supporting the new manager in bad times in his speech almost as if he expects bad times.
I have been critical of SAF at times but he has always put United first
Having watched our games this season there is a lot of work to be done with our team and I hope the owners buy the players this summer that gives Moyes a chance.

When I started following United winning the league was the impossible dream but Fergie made us believe it could happen and not just occasionally, for that I thank him

No he doesn't expect bad times but expects some to not get behind the manager as their still crying over the appointment.

Agree0 Disagree0

I genuinely can't understand the outright negative attitude some fans have about Moyes. He has be doing an amazing job with Everton for the last 11 years. Not even Alex could have won a league title with Everton's resources. In that time Portsmouth and Wigan are the only two clubs below Everton's level to win the FA cup. So all this talk of him winning nothing cannot define the whole story. I am not suggesting that Moyes will be an immediate success but given some time to settle next season I think he can build a great new era of his own at Old Trafford. We must be realistic enough to realise that he is never going to better the achievements of the man he is replacing but can still become another great United manager in his own right.

Red Rebel

Agree0 Disagree0

I am a little bit concerned that you and people around you can't understand the appointment of moyes mate. You might not agree with it but you can surely understand why we have gone for him. Evolution not revolution.

Did you see the reaction moyes got from the Everton fans today? Despite the fact he has chosen to go to a club most Everton fans despise. Surely that shows you what kind of manager he is.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gds there's a lot of football fans not just utd who were a bit surprised at the appointment. its done now so I will get behind the new man as every fan should. being cynical moyes cost nothing in compensation with being out of contract where as all our other so called targets would of cost millions to buy out there contracts :)
johndenton

Agree0 Disagree0

John,

Doesn't surprise me that you are cynical to be honest, you always are. I never said I wasn't surprised or that he was my first choice, but surely everyone can see the reason why it is moyes, that's all I am saying.

Agree0 Disagree0

Exactly, not my 1st, 2nd or 3rd choice, but he is here now and will be for some years. We need to get behind the manager and give him the best chance possible.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Please enlighten me with the reasons that I obviously can't see other than he is from glasgow and doesn't have any baggage :). like I said I will still be there next season and get behind the team but no one has put forward a reasonable case for, other than repeat what fergie has said.
johndenton

Agree0 Disagree0

Why should we expand on what the great man has said?

He is a manager who will stay at the club for a long time, has worked his way up through the divisions and done a great job at Everton on a shoestring budget.

It might all go wrong and he might be useless, but there is a pretty good chance that he won't be. He knows how to manage a football team, and to be honest, if you gave me the 25 players he will have to work with next season I reckon I could get us into the top 2! As Fergie said, he has left the club in a great position and a smooth transition to a new manager is exactly what the club needs.

For the Man Utd banter page
I've been a Liverpool fan since 1971 at the age of 5. United have always been the enemy. But, today, hatchet buried, I want to add my respect for Sir Alex as possibly the greatest manager ever (alongside Paisley, of course).

Hey guys,
Just wondering if Rooney is sold are we going to get to replace him with lewandowski or is that really a done deal to bayern?ed002/Sydney/fresh/ed004?i think we are in for a big summer with everything that's going on and the player at the moment that I think looks pretty certain is strootman. after that I really don't know but would like lewandowski, strootman and maybe a defender and a winger?realisticaly who do ye think/know will sign?thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I am obviously not at the level of fresh for the gossip (lol) but we can safely say that nobody knows exactly who we are going to sign.

What we do know for sure is that we have been looking at lewandowski for a long time, as well as strootman, and that di Maria has been contacted in the last week.

I would imagine if we get lewandowski that suddenly Rooneys transfer request might have a different answer.

Just a suggestion or an idea.
Since players get to have testimonials for being at clubs for 10 years, like Rio is to have one, woud it not be right for Fergy to have one himself?
When he anounced his retirement, there was really only a week to prepare, though really it was aimed at lifting the title.
Should the board consider giving Fergy a real send off by having match with past and present players available?

I think we need to sell Rooney, he's been crap for 2 seasons now, he has lost his pace and seems to loaf around playing simple passes sideways and not creating anything, invariably giving the ball away putting us on the back foot.
There have been a few small exceptions to his pattern of play this year, the goals v city at the Ethihad. His strike v Norwich and the pass for rvps volley, (can't remember if he scored v Chelsea?) but he is not the player he was, he goes missing in big games and has been a flop for England. I've been saying this for ages, people are rating him on memories of how he was, he is not the same player anymore, we need to sell him and buy a world class replacement, Wayne Rooney is not world class.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I just think he looks tired, and sloppy. He doesn't work hard enough and has reacted very badly to what is quite reasonable criticism of him this season, and I think he struggled with RVP becoming the 'main man'.

As much as I'd love Rooney of a few years ago in the team, I can't see him finding that form, so there are plenty of players that I would rather have in the team.

Have to say, I don't think his treatment of the club in the last couple of years has been good, a bit disrespectful if anything.

Agree0 Disagree0

I know he's hasn't played well this season, but he scored around 30 goals last season and pretty much him and valancia got us to 2nd place last season

What a great manager Sir Alex has been and what a great day we have had today. But how strange was that speech asking us to get behind a manager who hasn't even started yet. It is quite obvious that word has got back to the club how unhappy we are with the appointment of Moyes. I was thinking today as Swansea played attractive free flowing football causing us many problems. That is what happens when a good coach gets in charge of average players. Same with Southampton's manager another team who tactically were better than us this season. Then I asked myself has anyone ever said Hey Everton are tactically a great team who play good football. No they are a physically strong team who battle. Is that really what we are looking forward to. I just prey that he keeps hold of Rene as his no 2. If anyone can come on here and tell me about Everton playing tactically astute football. We have had the real thing in Sir Alex why would we want a watered down copy. Just because Sir Alex wants us to support him doesn't mean it will be ok

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Have Everton not finished above both your mentioned attractive football teams.

Agree0 Disagree0

Anyone seen the film Red? I imagin Kloot to be just like John Malkovic's characher. Lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Speak for yourself, KLOOT. There's plenty of fans very happy with the appointment. And did you see Everton's performance - and particularly their first goal - today?

I suppose now you can't snipe at Fergie "kow-towing" to the Glazers, you might as well start being negative about something else. {Ed007's Note - But there are also plenty of fans that feel the same as Kloot, so he isn't only speaking for himself. You can't use one performance and one goal to gauge anything, look at the past 11 years and teams that have won the domestic cups, Moyes has ONE Second Division title to his name. Sorry, I hope I'm wrong, but I'm with Kloot on this one, I honestly can't think of one positive regarding Moyes appointment.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Here is one positive Ed. Being British at least we are not going to get some fancy foreign manager taking over our club and talking about his ambitous "project". That annoys me when they say that, you are representing a club and tradition and history not a bloody personal project! Apart from Mourinho and Klopp, really what over choices were there? Mourinho is obviously a fantastic manager, and I disagree with the "short term" theory as look at the clubs since Porto: Chelsea, Inter and Real, he has actualy lasted longer than most and I think he would have been here for the long term, though his personality doesn't fit the history of the club. Klopp I think is superb, but again his wacky flamboyant personality again probably doesn't fit the club (tho of course Big ROn was before Fergie). I can see why we have chosen Moyes, he is single minded, decisive and has a touch of class and humility about him. Whether he is good enough and big enough for the job remains to be seen, i'm not sure either way, but I think he has earned his chance and should be given support and a clean slate when he takes over to see what he does. I bet Kloot wanted Fergie out in his early days!
Invisible STuey

Agree0 Disagree0

Kloot, when was the last time WE played free flowing football? let's be honest the attractiveness of the football and the tactics at United in the past three seasons have not been great, a sign that the manager was losing his magic touch slightly. I also think he was getting too attached to one or two players instead of being ruthless and selling them when they were past their best. I think it was a good time for the manager to step down as City, Chelsea & Everton will have new managers to next season, Arsenal probably next season. Time to stop the Moyes moaning now as we cannot change it. let's give him a fair chance and if he fails then there is grounds for complaint.

Sydney!

Invisible STuey {Ed007's Note - Anyone, player or manager that talks about a club as a 'project' needs a slap I agree, but surely the majority of managers would jump at the chance to manage Utd, at least Moyes was a cheap option and saved the club having to pay compensation. When you say he will be 'representing a club and tradition and a history', the club's history and tradition is winning/challenging for major honours, personally I think Utd will struggle to do that under Moyes. Look at even other team's supporters reactions to the appointment, it is hardly instilling a fear factor in them, to them Moyes looks like a chink in Utd's armour. Sorry to sound like a moaning git Stuey, I sincerely hope I end up with egg on my face over this, I can remember Moyes playing at Celtic and being a player/coach at Hamilton Accies, so I would like to see him doing well, I just have serious reservations whether he will.}

SAF has confirmed Rooney has handed in a transfer requests - I think now is a good time to let him just go, if he doesn't want to be a part of Manchester United any more than let him go. I personally would prefer Lewandowski or Benzema anyway

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 May 2013 21:50:36
If, as is likely, Rooney is off who should we bring in? With Falcao off to Monaco and Lewandowski looking like he's off to Bayern, it does leave a lack of top class replacements. It might be better instead to sign two attacking wide flair players, one to replace Nani and one to replace Rooney, with the new pair and Kagawa playing behind van Persie. With Zaha, Powell, Welbeck and Hernandez all providing some cover. Might need someone extra though.

Kloot you talk like the whole website was against you. When in reality it was split fairly evenly down the middle. Quite a few of us have backed the idea of selling Rooney for footballing reasons. We all knew that Fergie would have the last laugh, he always does. Its not like you have some secret knowledge.

Agree0 Disagree0

All bow down to kloot, nobody else in the history of the site has suggested we should sell Rooney lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

Something nobody has picked up on, which was the best comment made by Fergie regarding Rooney was that a fit and in form Rooney wouldn't be left out of games. I think now the time IS right to move him on after another transfer request as nobody is bigger than the club. A great shame though, he has been a very good player for us, but at the same time I remember his debut and really thought we were witnessing the beginning of an all time great at the club, again sadly only one season has he consistantly produced his talent, he may not have been a great role model at the club, but he has been a very good player

What a brilliant day for this football club. It has been sad but historic at the same time. I honestly cannot imagine another club would ever do a better job than this. The performance wasn't the best but we got the late win, the speech was fantastic, the stadium looked incredible and the atmosphere was electric. The only bad thing was the Great British weather! Today we should be thinking about Fergie and what the future holds for the club. Forget Rooney for now, he is no longer important to the club, we will move on. Today is not the day for Rooney dramas. I expected it. Fergie has sung his praises for years and I have to say I am pretty excited as I think he deserves his chance and could become very successful. The one thing I am concerned about his what type of player and player quality he will be trying to bring in to the club.

I hope everyone can now see why Rooney needs to be shipped out. When a top class player looses his place he takes a look at why and does everything to get back to the top. Rooney's response is that of a petulant child, instead of working hard to make himself indispensable again, he demands a transfer. A few years back Rooney thought he had outgrown us, now the club has outgrown him. Good riddance to him, his arrogance, and his massively unwarranted wages.

Take a look at RVP and his comments about Fergie, I'm glad that we have such a top class player and personality for the club club. He is everything Rooney will never be, a genuine role model for our younger players.

Danny Pughnited

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Moyes needs to show authority as soon as he comes in and get Rooney out of the club. The only concern is how much will we get for him. We've all noticed the drop in his performances, so no doubt the top teams have also seen it.

I'm concerned we may be stuck with him.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would ship him out for £30million and get in Di Maria, Baines, Strootman and Lewandowski.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gagus I agree. The issue with moving him is that not too many clubs will pay his wage demands maybe none.

I am trying to remember if we have ever had a case like this before but can't think of one.

He told the whole world about the transfer request and also said we have rejected it. He is done with the fans as far as a I concerned and I can't see how he can stay.

I wonder if this was Fergie's way of making sure there was no chance of a U Turn like last time :) and who gets the last laugh.

At the medal ceremony you could not miss how he did not greet him like the rest of the players.

My loyalties are always with the club and like many have some favorite players but the unfortunate truth is they all have to go at sometime.

Rooney has served his time with us and it is time he goes because I agree with the manager, his form has not been good for whatever reason and not just this year but also last year even though his stats were great.

On a similar note we had one of our greatest players today retire and has always been one of my favorites but not good enough anymore.

I am also going to back the new manager and actually rate him so apologies to everyone for not joining the doom and gloom club.

EDs, a few weeks ago we were discussing the possibility if we get Lewy, that Rvp will play behind in the hole. if I remember correctly you were worried that he would slow the game down a bit but has a better footballing brain that Wayne etc? today though he played there and I thought he did pretty well. much more involved and given the license to roam and create and make our attack a bit more fluid with players interchanging. so I think really if we do get lewy, we would only need one winger to play in off the right as otherwise where would kagawa play? I think a front four of rvp, lewy, kagawa and possibly rodriguez? ronaldo? bale? would be pretty sweet. thoughts? {Ed004's Note - I agree there were a few very good flicks from RVP and Kagawa did well when he was cutting in. For your suggestion to work I really think we have to have a strong midfield to supply RVP as he won't do the same amount of running as Rooney and we need a very good left back willing to get up and Down! the pitch.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yer I agree, would need a good hard working player to partner Carrick (Strootman? etc. ) and Baines down the left, then I think it would work out. this could all become a possibility too, if we sell Wayne, but all depends on Moyes of course. thanks though ED {Ed004's Note - Yes I reckon it could work but still not 100% on playing RVP there as it might leave us a little open. I would personally prefer the club to go out and try sign Rodriguez/Lamela and Ozil. Then a fluid 3 of Rodriguez, Ozil, Kagawa and RVP supported by Carrick and Strootman and still sign Baines to provide width. I reckon Kagawa and Baines could form a better partnership than Piennar and Baines and that was a joy to watch at the beginning of the year tbh}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed - I could not agree more, Baines for me is a necessity for the team to improve then for me RVP has to play up top where he is at his best with Carrikc and Strootman in the centre and the 3 behind RVP of Ozil/Di Maria, Kagawa and Rodriguez/Gaitan. {Ed004's Note - That would be one hell of an attack though I can't he but think we will miss Rooneys drive when the games get tough}

Today we gave an amazing send off to THE greatest manager of all time. What a great afternoon it was but very sad also.

Wayne Rooney tho, should bow his head in shame and f*ck off from our great club now. Absolute disgrace, to ask for one transfer is stupidity but to do it again is unforgivable. For SAF to have to answer questions about that little scouse tw*t on his big day makes it a million times worse.

I don't care how good he was in the past, this year he has been fat, unfit and uninterested. He is a disgrace as a professional footballer and I couldn't care less if I never see him in our famous red shirts ever again. Get the £25-30m in our bank and let's get someone who is proud to wear our shirt. We don't need players who are full of their own self importance, who think they are something they most certainly arent. He should look at the RVP's, Ronaldo's, Giggs' and Scholes of this world, they are the real professionals.

Rooney has been a very good player for this club, not a great one but a very good one nonetheless. I don't think bar one season he has ever quite reached the levels consistantly to be mentioned as a great or in the same breath of the Ronaldos and Messis of this world, but I think the comments here are a bit vitriolic.
I said months ago when there were rumours of Rooney being moved on for £20-25m, who would you replace him with for that fee?
However, no player is bigger than the club, and bearing in mind this is the second time he has asked for a transfer and his form in line with his salary, I think it is the right time for both parties to part and look to the future. I would like to see Rooney go abroad and get back to somewhere near the form of before, would be good for England. Thanks for the memories Wayne, you have been a good player for this club. A good professional and role model, maybe not, and sadly not a great, which you really could have been. Moving forward, who would you replace him with though? The last big English player moved on by the club was David Beckham and we went and replaced him with a super talented future world star and gave him the 7 shirt. This is the type of signing I would like to see, though my knowledge of such players is very scarce, but an Adam Maher, Quintero, Vilhena being examples of some very talented names that could become world stars in a couple of years, at this time £30m for Rooney being spent on such a player and a defender like Zouma is a good deal to me, add one or two central midfielders and couple of new wingers with Nani and Anderson (sad to say as he could be so good) moving on and the summers net spends to replace Rooney, Scholes, Nani and Anderson + more doesn't have to be that big with incoming money
Invisible STuey

Agree0 Disagree0

Needs a fresh start. Fair enough. Good luck to him, we move on as well. But I guess people love being bitter. Till he has been here, hez on field performances have certainly been passionate enough to tell everyone that he has played for the shirt. Given us 9 years and countless wonderful moments. Held fort when pretty boi Ronaldo jumped ship. Now if he thinks he needs a new challenge, so be it. Players of his stature have previously moved on. Lol, Ronaldo in the same breath as Giggs, Scholes? Which club does he play for laD? He will never be a legend. I think you would find Ronaldo and the terms self importance more in context than Waynes. If he does go, Good Bye and Good Luck Wayne! Thanks for the ride.

Deeps.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lot of us here know more than Robson and G Nev, seems? I would want him to go if he does not want to stay, but calling him names and undermining his importance is childish. Neville made a very very good point. And Robson thinks, it should be Moyes' first priority to help Rooney stay put. Wonder why they think like this?

Deeps.

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe Robson won't have a go at Rooney because he is Uniteds Global Ambassador, maybe Neville won't as he played with him and coaches the England team. These 2 aren't going to have a go at him are they? Come on let's talk sense. He has crossed the line AGAIN and it's time to get as much as we can for him.

Ronaldo went to play for his boyhood club like we would if we played elsewhere and United came calling, you can't compare that to Rooney. Did I say Ronaldo was a legend? Don't think so. He's a far better player and professional than Rooney tho, on a totally different level to him and that is fact as the fat waiter would say.

Maher would be a great buy for the future. I have not seen much of the other 2.

Shahram

Agree0 Disagree0

You really think Robbo of all people will play around with words and make things up just because he is a global ambassador for United? You have to think again. Gary Neville if you remember has not spared Wayne in the past this season in terms of in your face criticism. So not sure where you are going with that? Wanting to play for your boyhood club, is equal to not wanting to play for your current club and seeing it as a stepping stone/stop gap. Yes he is a better player than Wayne Rooney, that I give you. But a very very selfish one. Remember him saying " He is sad at Madrid"? So I am saying he can't be mentioned in the same breath as Giggsy/Scholsey.

You wanted him to go right? So when he requests (verbally) to leave, why are you calling him names? Isent it what you wanted all along? And it was SAF who broke the news on his last home game day, not Rooney, so not sure how Rooney f**ked the ocassion up? If he wants to go so be it, we paid his wages, he won us trophies. Thank you and Good bye. Some will miss him and some wont. But saying "i don't care what he has done previously", am not sure about that though. Anyways, I hope this doesent drag out and we get a quality quality replacement.

If united do get rid of Rooney. I don't think we need another striker this year not atleast our. priority unless its a steal eith lewandowski. we still have Van persie, Welbeck and Hernandez (even Kagawa). We need to get rid off one attacking player to get more balance, this is evident when their strikers are playing out of position (wingers). We need to improve midfield (CM and WInger {bale} or romaldo even di maria will do the job.

In my honest opinion, the arrival of Kagawa messed things up at united (in terms of balance), him and Rooney are similar players, and personally I fell that Rooney is the better player when fit but he's lost a lot of. pace and isn't ready or bothered to go back in shape. But not saying kagawa cannot be better then rooney because he has the potential to be just that.

In conclusion him or Kagawa needs to pave way for the other, don't think it will be kagawa so if Rooney wants to go, so be it. There are a lot of. players out there that would jump at the chance to. play for Manchester United especially. on the wages Rooney is currently getting.

Singh {Ed004's Note - The thing is Kagawa can play out wide left and cut in he has played well there recently. I'm hoping the club surprises us and signs Ronaldo/Ozil to replace Rooney}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ed I hope so too that would replace the big name rooney is and the players you mentionedare better then rooney and would take us to the next level. I reckon once he is sold its highly plausible that one of those players could arrive if the ambitions of the club is same as supporters and I don't see no reason we shouldn't expect players of that calibre.

Singh

Agree0 Disagree0

I firmly believe that we will not have Rooney here next season. I think Moyes will eye up to 5 players with up to 5 leaving. That is a reasonable transition for a new manager to make. Rooney, Nani, Anderson, Lindegaard are odds on to leave but one of Ferdinand or Evra could depart. Personally I think it will be Evra. As for ins, I think that Ronaldo could be the big deal, McCarthy, Fellaini, Baines & Lewandowski are all on Moyes list. Perhaps Strootman or Moutinho also. Moyes I hope will bring in a new forward, 2 cm's and a left back though, that will really bolster the team.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree that if Rooney goes we do not need a striker. I would prefer us to sign Di Maria, Strootman, Baines, Zouma and Gaitan. Instead of going and spending £50 million on Falcao or someone.

Moutinho was brilliant yesterday and the best player on the pitch for Porto.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I would take any of the following in an exchange deal and drive him myself to the airport: Benzema, Ozil, Modric, Di Maria.

The problem is I don't think they would want him. Their entire game is based on pace and he has lost his.

I think this is it Rooney has to go, just can't think of anyone who earns nearly 50 times as much as me if not more and doesn't have the desire to stay at the club or go back into shape and has the balls to request a transfer. Truly dreadf no matter what he's done for the club but he's been a spoilt brat and don't need him in the team. he could easily be replaced and I am sure he will know once he's moved away. I wanted to say a few words. I haven't had the health to take an active part in the forum for a while. though I've kept up to a degree. nice to see so many things don't change. it epitomises the spirit of Manchester United. The family no matter the disagreements there is an undercurrent ever present of unbreakable unity I'm proud to have been a part of. I've not missed a game all season and its kept me going. I absolutely love this club and the spirit that drives it and of its people

and as I sit here watching as Sir Alex gives his speech whatever faults a few of you may focus on. He absolutely does epitomise the nature of the club. and he's not let anyone around him forget the importance of the history and pride well deserved and earned that he picked up the baton from and reinstated us as we should be. in the top elite of the world playing in a style that genuinely wowed on many occasion.

people may think that the commercial aspects are monsterous but without the heart that drives it it woudnt have a leg to stand on and Alex again whatver fault he has has represented what this club is about and is owed a great deal of respect. you can't be loved by everyone but that man is loved and respected by many unflinchingly and deservedly so. you would do yourself no harm in basing your approach to life in how he approached it. hard work and heart make for the greatest of accomplishments in all of history and he is a greatly accomplished man and I will greatly miss him. He was a father like to all who loved him including me.

thx for you Sir Alex. we are truly fortunate fans to have been on this journey with so many great great memories

and finally for my favourite player of all time without question Paul Scholes. becks corner scholes volley. legend

Going to be an emotional day lads, not just the loss of one legend, but two. The greatest manager the world has ever known, and arguably one of the greatest midfield players there ever has been, and ever will be.

Think you Sir Alex Ferguson, you were the best thing to ever happen to this football club, and hopefully your impact can follow on through to the future.

Also, thank you Paul Scholes. You have been the best midfield player we have ever had, and are likely to ever have. The ability that boy has is incredible, and one of the most humble footballers known to man.
All you need to do is ask Zinedine Zidane, "How does it feel to be the best midfielder ever. " to which he replied, "I don't know, ask Paul Scholes. "
Hopefully he gets a coaching role within the club, as he deserves it and could hopefully rub off some knowledge onto younger players.

Lets hope the lads and fans give Paul, and especially the boss a send off that they definitely deserve and are not likely to ever forget.

The reason it doesn't work for city IMO is a) their players do not work hard enough and b) when their wide players cross neither Aguero or Tevez offer any threat in the air whereas RVP and Rooney are both dangerous in the air}

having spent twelve months or longer scouting some of those players and possibly spending six months in negotiations I don't think we'll drop all interest now. Gill wants to leave on a high and leave his replacement with an easy start. I imagine Fergie thinks the same. My guess is Moyes has at some point been advised of transfer targets and has agreed. The positions we need to buy in hasn't changed. Nor has the potential targets. As an elite club there is only a certain pool of players we should be looking at not counting unknowns. From transfers point of view its no change.

If we can find anyone daft enough to bid that he wants to go to then he's gone. However I see him trying to sit out his contract and move on a free.

Ed002,

With some many rumours about top strikers moving clubs this summer, who do you see actually moving and which clubs are leading the hunt for who (cavani, falcao, and lewandoski)?

sorry if this is a bit vague.

Sad week this week, grateful for everything sir Alex and scholes gave us. The best manager ever and in my eyes the best English player ever. Worried, nervous, excited for the future hope moyes gets it right. Anyone think giggs will call it a day now because sir Alex has?

I hope Giggs goes now, time for a new start for him and the team. It's difficult to justify his inclusion now as his pace has gone and while he makes the occasional great pass he's not got the legs for midfield. His inclusion there has been a sad indictment of our lack of midfield quality this year. Great player but time to go.

I don't think giggs will get many games next season, and that he has been kept on mainly for his experience and impact in the dressing room, scholes taking up coaching role will help our youth no end, can see giggs becoming youth coach when he eventually retires and doing same as ole, maybe becoming Moyes eventual successor

Not at all. Giggs has shown on several occasions this year that he still has an important role to play. He will also provide some much needed stability in the dressing room at a time when everything else may appear to be changing. Go and read David James article on Sir Alex Ferguson and how he talks about the United players in England squads and Ryan Giggs. They are more than just players, they are ambassadors and are the yard stick that the younger players at the club should aim for.

Giggs on the left can still bring something to the team, when he's inside he's a liability

Congratulations Wigan on beating citeh! and
winning the FA CUP! But with Wigan winning
this gives us a better chance of getting off
too a trophy winning start under Moyes
(just the community shield I know)
