Thought Garay, sequira and Gaitan all looked good this evening albeit against an unpredictable Tottenham side.
First time I've seen Garay play for a while and he looked strong and good on the ball. Pleasantly surprised.

Wow, just Read Rvp's comments and I'm pleasantly surprised! Always respected the man and due to reading a lot of the posts on here I thought he was destined to give up on united and leave this summer.

But the things he's said has really got to me. He really put all the negative media behind him to show that he is a real professional and that he has the ability to change and adapt in order to accommodate the situation that the club is going through, and really seems committed to the future of united.

I'm sorry but as far as I'm aware he was very patient at arsenal and the fact that he won a premier league title at united in his first year doesn't mean that because of a change of manager he'll give on united that easily.

OK, adapting to a new manger after being lead by SAF must very difficult but as a professional footballer it comes with the territory and you should be able to adapt.

He was the star man under SAF but once Moyes took charge and put all his focus on Rooney, surely this affected Rvp and his ego took a bit of a knock.

I don't believe the fact that people say that Rvp and Rooney can't work as a striking partnership but to me they played some fantastic football together towards the end of last season. Remember Rvp's volley against Aston Villa with a beautiful ball from Rooney? And the first thing Rvp did was run straight to Rooney and hold him up in the air! Even after the game he gave all the credit to Rooney!

I still feel if they are both committed to the club the way they say they are then given they keep their egos aside, they still have the opportunity to form a formidable and devastating striker partnership!(Sturridge and Suarez who?)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Totally disagree with the whole moyes favours rooney thing, rooney has had praise heaped on him this year by moyes because for 1 he's had a really good season and 2 the whole chelsea saga ment moyes had to drill it into everyones heads how important rooney is to man utd, rvps form has been patchy and he's been injured a fair bit so there's nothing much to say on his part but moyes has said countless times this year how brilliant robin has been to work with, I don't see moyes focusing more on either of them, both world class and both treated as equals. world strike partnership though, I have my reservation on that one but time will tell!

Agree0 Disagree0

This can't be true all the people ITK on this site have all ready told us that RVP can't stand moyes or Rooney .
He is driven mad by Rooneys wage and preferential treatment and looks down on moyes and his inferior management abilities.
Or could it be that some people don't actually know what's going on in the United dressing room

Agree0 Disagree0

Well its Sturridge and Suarez v. Robin and Rooney on Sunday - very excited. For the first time in a while I feel as though I can enjoy the game because in reality it has very little bearing on our season since we are so far behind.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well there you go, Van Persie is going nowhere ;)

All Rooney, Mata & Van Persie need is a long run of games together with support of a better midfield and defence and we will start to see the best of them. We need to have a good summer of rebuilding and concentrate on building for next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

It means nothing. he was hardly going to come out on TV and say that he doesn't get on with Moyes, he hates his training methods and he wants to leave at the end of the season is ne.
I still think there is something not right about the whole situation.

Agree0 Disagree0

Simmo, of course Van Persie wasn't happy with SAF's retirement and when Moyes was appointed and changed things he obviously didn't like it. I am not naive to think that Van Persie hasn't been unhappy this season, but on the other hand I do not think he will leave. I just cannot see it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sydney
So how well do you know Rvp.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't, but it doesn't take a genius to know he wasn't happy with the SAF retirement does it? And the Holland coaches have made it very clear that he didn't like Moyes' training methods. Are they all telling porkies? Or is Van Persie just trying to keep the peace courtesy of the MU PR engine?

Agree0 Disagree0

I am not one of the "RvP's off" crowd, I actually see him here next season, but I am not stupid, he's clearly been unhappy with certain things this season along with many other MU players. No doubt it's been blown out of proportion by the media and some fans, but that doesn't mean it hasn't been the case. RvP has clearly been frustrated at times this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Moyes has said several times he has a good relationship with rvp and now rvp has said .

‘There is mutual respect between us and the work environment is actually good. He really wants things to work here at Manchester United and I want the same, just like the other players.

‘What I need to address are the situations when people are taking it upon themselves to think for me, make assumptions, or interpret things as if they are me.

‘Last time I checked my head was still attached to my body, so I’m the only one who knows exactly what I’m feeling.

‘I’m very happy with my teammates and I’m very happy with my manager and his staff. The sessions we have on the training ground are fantastic and I’m learning a lot from them every day.

‘I really enjoy working under him and I’m absolutely convinced things will pick up and we’ll turn it around.’

I think you should pay particular attention to
"What I need to address are the situations when people are taking it upon themselves to think for me, make assumptions, or interpret things as if they are me."

Agree0 Disagree0

Jred, I don't think things are anywhere near as bad as what some people think on here or in the newspapers, I don't think he will leave and I have said as much, but I do think there have been issues between Moyes and Van Persie regardless of what either of them and the MU PR machine say. It's better for the club for RvP to release such a statement. I am just so surprised it's taken so long for them to do this. Perhaps only recently issue have been resolved? I don't know, but no one including you will convinced me that there haven't been some issues this season behind the scenes.

Van persie has come out and clearly stated he is happy and has no problem with Moyes. This is a positive as it shows RVP is fully motivated to work with the team and moyes, knowing we will stick with moyes this is positive news to know RVP is on his side. I'm delighted that he said he wants to add to his contract and if we sold with no world class replacement he will be a massive loss!

I see this as good news and I'm glad RVP has shut the media up. Some of use may disagree, I'm open to hear people's opinions on this :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

This is great news he is still a World class centre forward and they are the hardest things to come by in football and we have two and one in the making so this is just what the team needs to hear before the big game COME ON YOU DEVILS

How do people feel about ozil are you glad we didn't sign him because we all know he wanted to come to us over arsenal and when we said no he had no choice but to go to arsenal I honestly believe he won't be a success in England

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He was never interested in coming to us in the first place. He is a great player, the type that we needed but we were too slow in going for him, and it's doubtful we would have paid the asking anyway. If I had a choice of Ozil or Mata I'd take Ozil any day.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mata over ozil all day! Mata is proven in prem and more of a team player? Ozil is class but a team like arsenal can't cover for him when he has down time whereas Madrid could so I think at utd we'd of struggled to cover him aswell and mata over his time in prem hasn't had many long spells of off form but ozil in his short time has? I would of loved ozil at the time but I never would of thought Chelsea would sell mata? So mata ahead of ozil for me!

Agree0 Disagree0

Tedred I heard we were offered oil in the summer before the arsenal thing came up and Moyes didn't fancy him

I was pretty miffed tbh luckily Moyes knows more than me lol

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd take Mata over Ozil, proven EPL quality. You can see how badly Ozil is struggling, he hasn't warranted his fee at all.

Agree0 Disagree0

At the start of the season I would have taken Oezil over Mata - but I'm pleased to see the people with the responsibility made a better call.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would have taken Oezil over Mata, but judging Oezil on this season's performances, I'd probably prefer Mata now. However I do expect Oezil to improve next season.

If there was a possibility we could sign Jan Vertonghen from Spurs I believe we should jump at it - tough, arial threat and a natural leader at the back, not to mention a very good defender who likes to get stuck in.

The type of player we like to go for.

What you folks think?

Cheers

JR

Believable0 Unbelievable0

There is a lot I like about him but the more I watch him the less I'm impressed.
I think he he does the hard things well and the easy things bad

Agree0 Disagree0

Think he would be great and ad a Ferdinand like presence in the back four with Jones/Smalling/Evans could also cover at left back but what does everyone think about Vermelan all the traits of Vertongen and just as much experience

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he is a jack of all trades master of none.

Agree0 Disagree0

More of an arial black man myself

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he would be a good signing and it's clear he wants out of spurs but they would only sell him to us for big money so I think it's unlikely

Agree0 Disagree0

He can't even get into spurs back four half the time

I think if you look at the way things have been going recently you can see that Moyes is favouring the 4-2-3-1 and that is the formation that he is going to want to pursue with the targets that he has in mind. The players that come in will be the ones that are right for that system (I think). That's probably why we are looking at the likes of William Carvalho and Luke Shaw - Carvalho alongside Fellaini for solidity and Shaw to provide great width.

Whatever anyone says, we have the basis of a very good team. Rooney off of RVP if they gel will be brilliant, we have Mata to one side to play as a 2nd number 10 / inverted winger and also young Januzaj who is going to be a world beater. We also have Jones who will be a regular England centre back, a world class keeper and Rafael who I think is as good as most when in form. The problem for us, especially in the big games, is that a lot of these players are allowed the freedom to play due to other deficiencies in the side, e.g. Young plays big games to help out Evra.

The additions in the summer will certainly be a new left back, centre back, at least one central midfielder and a new attacker for the left hand side. These moves will make everyone in the side perform better and will allow us to play our best team in the big games rather than a team designed to be cagey and to nullify the opposition (which hasn't worked). Years ago we had a team that could stand up to anyone, Ronaldo, Tevez, Rooney, Scholes, Ferdinand, Vidic etc - it meant that we could play our best team and the opposition had to change. Now it's the other way around.

I will be glad when we get back to the days where our strongest team makes other teams think instead of us needing to change to nullify the opposition.

As a complete side note, who do you think is the best and most realistic option for the left hand side? Griezmann looks like PSG, Reus probably won't go, Pedro and others like him are unlikely. Is Draxler likely or Muniain? I really like these two and think that they would be ideal.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I was one of the first on here to say, it was obvious Moyes was moving towards a 4231. Though, seeing how he changes sometimes, he seems to like 451 too, we just don't have the wingers for it though. I'll be glued to our team choice v Liverpool.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fresh, I honestly think Lallana would be a great signing for our L/H side. I know many on here disagree, but I think we often look at players in foreign leagues through rose tinted specs. If Lallane played for a European team I'm sure he would get much more recognition from our fans. He is fairly quick, very skillful and both scores and creates goals. More importantly he has premiership experience. Something that is to me, very important.
A double signing from Southampton of Lallana and Shaw would be brilliant business, and would ensure a solid L/H side to our team for years. In fact, I would make it a triple swoop and try to get Schneiderlin too. In my opinion a very good young player who could be something special. He is not the world class midfielder that we all want, but would be a great addition to play alongside someone like Vidal or Gundogan. Of course this is all hypothetical because Southampton won't want to sell one of their best players to us, let alone 3!

Agree0 Disagree0

When we have another winger that is good enough we will see a difference. But a central midfielder and a left back are most important - then we will see things change.

Agree0 Disagree0

Betty, so you would have Lallana over say Draxler or Reus? Lallana is a Peugeot in comparison to a Mercedes in Draxler.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ricardo Rodriguez, Granit Xhaka, would go a long way to toughen this team up and make the system work better as for the wings we do have Mata and januzaj who both fit this system, as Young and Tony must be looked on now as option B but a Griezmann or Cabella would be improvements on Januzaj for now but would they hold him back he could play much more and with more consistency, it has been a difficult season to make his breakthrough and he has still shone he also has gained muscle to compete week in week out and should be ready to play regular next season but we will sign four players at least as a lot will be leaving this summer that's for sure

Agree0 Disagree0

Fresh, I never said that did I? You asked who we thought would be realistic, and also said that "Reus probably won't go". I don't think Draxler is likely either because he will cost too much. I expect us to make 4 or 5 signings in the summer, but they won't all be big money. I think the big money will be spent in CM because that is where it is needed most. If we were able to land Shaw he would also cost a fair bit.
I just think Lallana would be a good option. Wont be cheap, but won't cost nearly as much as Draxler. I think Lallana will go on to be a very good player. Like I said, a lot of players are under rated and overlooked simply because they already play in England. We seem to rave about some players just because they are foreign and play for foreign teams. But they don't always work out here do they? We only need to look at our own recent history for a long list of highly regarded foreigners who have flopped in the prem. Players who show glimpses of their ability but are inconsistent and struggle over here. Anderson, Nani etc all come to mind. Young players who have great potential and then fail to fullfil it like Chicarito , Tosic etc.
Just my view, but sometimes we don't appreciate what is right in front of us, instead, admiring others from afar.

Agree0 Disagree0

Betty
Completely agree, I'm a big fan of draxler but lallana has been playing really well in fact he looks better every time I watch him. I have a feeling if he was playing for a mid table Italian/German team and was breaking in to there national team with some of the the performances has put in for Southampton/England, he would be regarded much higher

Agree0 Disagree0

I admit that Lallana would be a good signing, but I think he will be near the bottom of the list - we will only move for him if we can't get hold of other more favoured targets.

Good evening Guys

With everyone quite rightly getting excited about the summer transfer window I just wondered if people could pick 5 players to sign who would they be.
My 5 would be

Kroos
Carvalho
Shaw
Lallana
Cavanni

I know there are no centre halves but we do have options there.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed004's Note - Benetia, Shaw, Vidal, Gundogan, Reus}

Mangala ( I know he's a risk but could be very special)
Alex Sandro
Vidal
Kroos
Griezmann

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - Watching Mangala tonight and been very dissapointed so far in him}

Mangala
Shaw
Vidal
Kroos
Reus

Agree0 Disagree0

Shaw, Mangala, Kroos, Vidal, Reus is what I would like, however that won't happen.

Players like Gundogan, Carvalho, Betran are probably more likely.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mangala, Shaw, Vidal, Reus, Malanda. Those would be my 5, i'm open to compromise though ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Mar 2014 19:47:07
Benatia, Shaw, Vidal, Gundogan, Reus/Griezmann

Agree0 Disagree0

Vidal, kroos, Benatia, Reus and Shaw

Agree0 Disagree0

Damn forgot that was on early. I know he scored but how did Martinez play ed?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - He was good hard to judge him as he was quiet. Good target man linked up well with others, very good touch and great pace. Took his goal very well. Sandro was brilliant defensively and on the ball. Very rarely gave it away and was very composed however he offered nothing going forward. Didn't over lap much if at all}

Any 5?

Shaw
Hummels
Reus
Di Maria
Vidal

I'd stick Ronny in there, but even though the OP stated, 'any 5', I'm trying to keep some sense of reality.

Agree0 Disagree0

I am not greedy and would be happy with four top signings, mine would be Shaw, Mangala, Kroos & Griezmann. I like Subotic and Gundogan, but they are injured.

Agree0 Disagree0

DREAM SIGNINGS
CB - Vincent Kompany
LB - David Alaba
CM- Javi Martinez
CM- Cesc Fabregas
WI- Cristiano Ronaldo

REALISTIC SIGNINGS
CB- Raphael Varane
LB- Luke Shaw
CM- Arturo Vidal
CM- Ilkay Gundogan
WI- Antoine Griezmann

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally go for:
LB - Shaw
CB - Garay
RB/LB - Santon
CM - Gundogan
CM - Kroos

Work more toward a 4-3-3 as well. even though I know full well it won't happen, a lad can dream!

Agree0 Disagree0

Shaw
Mangala
Vidal
Kroos
Rodrigo (Not just because he scored against Spurs last night but I think he's underrated, most probably wouldn't agree!)

Agree0 Disagree0

Messi, Ronaldo, Vidal, Kompany, Shaw

To comment on this response on my original post.

"Hernandez has flattered to deceive on countless occasions over the past couple of years. He has very rarely had much of an impact, he only really had pace and an eye for goal which have declined drastically since his first season - as Betty says his game isn't hard to read so first season wonder - Benteke anyone.

He seems like a nice guy, but there seems to be a love in with Chica - at the end of the day do you see Welbeck moaning when not picked or our other squad players, (not sure why Javier stands out too much here to be fair)? Best if he moves on so he can pick up his career in a slower league."

Can't agree at all on this. The difference between Chica and Sellbeck (and no that's not a typo) is that Chica knows he is good enough to be one of United's four strikers. "Welbz" knows he is fortunate to pick up a salary at United and will never rock the boat. Nothing to do with being a Manchester lad. Chica scores more in his bad seasons than Welbeck will ever do consistently.

If we are going to make comparisons, then let's do it on a like for like basis. I would also say that some responded to say that Chica hasn't progressed and laid the blame at his door. It's not his fault in entirety. United's coaches are more to blame, which was actually the main thrust of my post. It is their objective to improve all aspects of a player's game and contribution to the team.

I appreciate that we all have our thoughts on players and David Moyes, but it strikes me that the coaching support team do well to not get more criticism. This begs a truly interesting question. How much would the class of 92 achieved under the current management and coaching structure? Would they have matured in to the outstanding group of footballers that they became? Would they have been better? Would they have been worse? Would Keane tolerate being coached by Round and Neville? Mmmm.

Timbo

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The reason Welbeck plays ahead of Hernandez is because of his all-round play. He chases off the ball better than pea, he is more versatile than pea, he is more physical than pea, he defends better than pea and he still scores goals. One of the biggest reasons Welbeck will remain a MU player and Hernandez will be sold, is because Welbeck doesn't whine when he isn't playing and doesn't mind being a squad player. All squads need players like Welbeck, our history is littered with decent squad players and without them we wouldn't have been successful. Brown, Butt, Phil Neville, JOS, Evans, Fletcher etc etc. People think you can buy 25 world-class players and think they will be happy to sit in the stands, they won't. One of SAF's biggest achievements was building successful squad whilst keeping them all happy.

Agree0 Disagree0

That was my comment you quoted Timbo and I stand by it. I just think Welbeck offers more, but even if people disagree with what Sydney and I think on this issue - both of them are squad players and don't justify a start for a top class team.

I am completely baffled why a lot of people feel Hernandez has been hard done by or deserves more chances and constantly say what a nice guy he is. He is no different to many of our squad players, possibly worse as his recent dip in attitude is not what we see from Welbeck, Fletcher, Clevs, Evans, Jones, Smalling, etc - the media have helped build up the Little Pea to a level I don't feel is justified and as a result a few people have not assessed his actual performances which are typically 5/10 at best.

I do agree with you Timbo in that the coaching team have a lot to answer for. There has only really been Ronaldo that has developed in recent years and I get the feeling he would have if my nan was coaching him. Rooney hasn't fulfilled his immense potential, then you have Rafael (gone backwards from last season), Fabio, Smalling, Jones, Hernandez, Cleverly, Welbeck, Nani, Anderson and probably many more that have not progressed much or as quickly as we would have hoped in recent years. This doesn't even include many of the youngsters that we have been blessed with at youth level and then never made the grade, again people will know a lot more about these people than me. But it is very concerning and I bet the agents of Ramsey, Bale, Hazard, Moura etc were fully aware of our inability to fine tune amazing potential into amazing world class players.

Maybe that is one of the reasons we seem to be missing out on these 18-22 year olds, (Jones aside, who again isn't developing as quick as most people thought he would). Keepers don't count in this, haha.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think its best for Chicha to leave, I think we love him because of his first season and how passionate he is. He always has a smile on his face too. I think his time is up though and will probably be replaced by Morata or from within our own ranks.

Agree0 Disagree0

Timbo, you can't compare them on a like for like basis as they aren't like for like players. Regardless of your dislike for Welbeck, he brings more to the team than Hernandez does. Hernandez is a goal scorer and nothing more. The problem is that he doesn't have enough guile to consistently outwit opposition defenders when we play the very top sides where as Welbeck can play against the top sides and make an impact with his energy and covering back.

Agree0 Disagree0

A combination of Chicharito's finishing, and Welbeck's all-round game, and you'd have a pretty nifty forward on your hands.

I love Chicharito, as I think most fans do - his was the name my son wanted on his shirt at his first Utd game - as his attitude is good and it looks like he enjoys himself.

Unfortunately, we're probably not going to be playing with two strikers on a regular basis, as we did in the days of Yorke/Cole/OGS and Teddy, so his chances are limited. He's never going to get in ahead of RVP and Rooney, and even though he's a better finisher than Danny, I can see why Welbeck would be preferred, in that he brings a bit more to the table.

Just unfortunate circumstances, and it's a shame. I hope he stays, but if he does go, it would be with a genuine, 'thank you, and good luck, lad'.

Agree0 Disagree0

Steviek

"and Welbeck's all-round game, " We agree on a lot of things but have to diagree on this one.

He is piss poor in my opinion and does so many simple things poorly but then does the odd very hard thing very well.

Agree0 Disagree0

We're not disagreeing that much Shahram. I don't think he's good enough for the first team, though, 'piss poor' is a bit harsh :)

I only meant his all-round game in comparison to Chicharito, who apart from being a very good finisher, does not have Danny's movement or ability to hold the ball up.

With plenty of changes expected during the summer we should try and avoid changes to positions which are do absolutely require addressing.

One of those positions in my opinion is the right back position.

Rafael has been hot and cold but the overall opinion about him is positive. Yes he had a few rash games but with more experience he will be better.

Valencia/Smalling as backups have been woeful and liabilities whenever they have started. Jones has been ok but we want him to be our CB.

This means at the moment we do not have a good enough backup or player to fight Rafael to be our first choice RB.

My question to the reserve games viewers and EDs, are Varela, Janko(is he an RB?) and Vermijl any good?

Would you be ok with us going into next season with Rafael as first choice(consider his injury record as well) and these 3 as backups?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I hope to see Santiago Arias - not to replace Rafael, but to be competition for him. As you say we are short at right back, selling one to bring in another makes no sense to me. Every position in the team should have at least 2 players pushing each other - that's how you get improvement. Valencia is no right back and Smalling isn't either. A right back is not a necessity though and should only be looked at once we have addressed our problem areas.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree, I have exactly the same feeling over RVP too. Both issues to be addressed at another time if at all possible.

Agree0 Disagree0

There's potentially too much work to do in a very small time frame, the areas that need sorting as a priority are central midfield, then a left back, then a centre back and lastly a left winger - hopefully a world class one.

I would class the right back slot as an area that needs a bit of maintenance down the line - having said that, if Arias is the one we want and there is interest from elsewhere then hopefully we get someone onto that deal so as not to miss out on him. One thing I don't want to see happen is Coleman to replace Rafael.

Agree0 Disagree0

Good because we don't want to sell him to you.

edds,

is mats ginter still on radar?

cheers.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Yes.}

Haven't seen him play but he looks like a CB with potential.

Erm.don't we have Jones, Smalling and Keane for that?

I would've thought we needed an experienced head to replace Rio/Vida.

Agree0 Disagree0

The ed has said before that we are looking to get Mangala and they a promising player in like Ginter to replace Ferdinand and Vidic. This says to me that Moyes doesn't feel that Keane is ready to be 5th choice.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with fresh Moyes wants a player of Mangalas type and a Ginter like player Keane is a premier loan and then cup games after that

13 Mar 2014 13:36:10
lets face it guys, as much as I love the fella, chicarito is not in moyes plans! could he be used as bait to land juan bernat from valencia? good age, fantastic little player to replace evra? now, obviously, shaw would be first choice, not going to happen though unless a HUGE offer is put in, not likely! AND especially as lallana is being looked at?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I see him going to Spain. Maybe Athletico with a Costa deal, or just straight sale.

Agree0 Disagree0

'Beast' - you very rarely see a p/ex deal and I don't think we will sign a world class striker unless RVP leaves which probably isn't very likely. Valencia, Inter or Roma will probably be his destination if they are willing to cough up the £15 million required.

Agree0 Disagree0

The big one this weekend is just days away, what's everyone saying?

I predict Moyes will play one or both of Valencia and Young, due to their tracking back. In a game like this, I could sort of accept that, as our defence is going to be run ragged.

I can see Januzaj being benched, probably for Young. Hopefully Valencia will just make a substitute appearance.

Sadly, I don't think we can hold them off. Smalling and Jones are prone to errors, Rio and Vidic too slow. Evra will obviously leave gaps, and our midfield could well be over-run.

Unfortunately I can see a 1-3 Liverpool win, with a controversial penalty/red card going their way too.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I hope not, he has to play the same side as last week.
Janujaj would definately be in my line up, young and Valencia are extremely poor at the moment.
We shouldn't be worrying about tracking back, we are at home and need the points. All out attack is a must. We have the players to destroy Liverpool like Rooney, RVP, Janujaz, Mata.
Carrick and Fellaini in central midfield.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well Liverpool will be favourites, though in games like these that can mean little. Suarez could easily prove the difference. I truly hope we stick with the same side as West brom but have a sneaky feeling we may play 4411 or 451.

Agree0 Disagree0

We were the better side at Anfield when we were without Rooney and they were without Suarez, which meant nothing as we lost. I don't know what will happen this weekend, but personally I would feel much more confident if we were playing at Anfield. I think we are a better side away.

Agree0 Disagree0

Im going to stick my neck out Syd and say were going to win on Sunday.
If i'm wrong then i'm wrong. If he sticks with the side from last week I think that we can get a result against them.
The Jones and Smalling combination in the defence is a real positive in my opinion, I think that could be something good.
Both good in the air, good tacklers, good pace they just need to play together and get come consisitency and understand each other which will come with the more game time.
Im going to go 2-1 United.
Spurs to get beat against Chelsea which closes the gap to 2 points on Spurs with a game in hand and 8 points behind Liverpool.
Funnily enough I think it's going to be Arsenal who we have the best chance of catching now.

Agree0 Disagree0

Simmo, I have been wanting to see Smalling and Jones for a while, it seems we are seeing it now. Smalling lacks the passing ability of Ferdinand, but Fellaini helps out there by being an outlet. In terms of defending (not passing), I think Smalling is our best defender at present. I am not too fussed about this weekend's game, usually I would be but I have kind of (in my head) put this season down to a transitional blip. Arsenal have a massive month ahead of them and I would be amazed if they are genuine title contenders come May.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think this is a game where Moyes needs to set out his stock. We're heading into a big week and we need two wins or our season is well and truly over. In most big games so far Moyes has erred on the side of caution, and our results in big games have been poor.

Liverpool are an excellent attacking team, but their defence is brittle. The obvious way to beat them is to target their weakness and play your best attacking players. Moyes needs to stick to the 4-2-3-1 and either play Kagawa or Januzaj on the left, with Fellaini in the middle to get forward too, and the same mobile back four as the last game. If Moyes focuses, instead, on containing Liverpool and reverting to the likes of Valencia, Young, Vidic and Cleverly, then he will have blown it.

Liverpool are beatable but Moyes needs to build up the team's confidence by playing our most forward thinking side. If we can beat Liverpool with an attacking display this could give the team the push needed to reverse the CL score line too. We have absolutely nothing to lose, so Moyes must not bottle it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Couldn't agree more Danny, I will be extremely dissapopinted in Moyes if he changes the side from last week.
If he brings in the likes of Young, Cleverley and Valencia then I really don't have any sympathy for the man.
It's simple, we have to attack them and the only way to do this is by playing our best attacking players. RVP, Rooney, Mata and Janujaz.

Agree0 Disagree0

I totally agree about going at Liverpool and putting out an adventurous team to go for the throat but I'm basing my views on what we've seen from Moyes so far. He only seems to do this against smaller teams, when we play vital games he goes into his shell.

Agree0 Disagree0

After last week I don't expect to see adan or Jones starting

Agree0 Disagree0

Jred, I think Jones was rusty having just come back from a month out. Adnan looked a little off the pace and I wouldn't be surprised to see him on the bench. It will probably be Smalling and Vidic as CB's, but I would like to stick with Smalling and Jones.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Toni might start instead of adan but moyes might surprise a few and go with kags

Agree0 Disagree0

OMG.if Vidic plays we are doomed. I would rather have a rusty Phil Jones playing. Vidic is just too slow now, he will get torn apart by Sturridge and Suarez.
At least Jones has a bit of pace and is mobile.
If I was picking the side I would stick with the one that beat the Brom last week.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we will see Matta, Rooney, RVP, Valencia with carrick and fellaini as midfield 2.

I also have bet on us winning 3-1 with RVP scoring the first. Shame we have to wait till sunday:)

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think we will see such an attacking team as we saw against Palace or West Brom. Mata, RVP and Rooney will all definitley start and it depends whether Moyes favours Welbeck, Young or Valencia. I imagine that Young will start down the left hand side to protect Evra. I see no reason to drop Carrick or Fellaini and I hope that the back four can remain unchanged to see how the centre two do as a partnership.

RED_SKY
I can definitely see a red card; hopefully for them not us!

I really hope Moyes picks an attacking team and exactly the same as last week. If we lose 3-1 but play with adventure and flair then fair enough.
If we pick Vidic, Valencia and Young we will lose 1-0 and it will be a completely turgid affair.

Moyes will want to beat Liverpool as it will at least restore a little pride to a very poor season. We will still not get fourth but it gives us something to feel positive about. I agree with Danny in that the best way to beat Liverpool will be to attack them

One report out today linking us with Roma defender Dodo, isn't that the same player who we were linked with around the same time he was 16/17?
I seem to remember him and Dede.

As the season has progressed there has obviously been speculation, and some movement, in terms of players going out. Vidic has obviously gone, Evra seems likely to follow, and questions remain over the three *ahem* wingers. None of these particularly bother me, though Vidic, Evra (ironic how they both join and leave together) and Valencia to a lesser degree will warrant a lap of honour - the others can just head down the tunnel and jump in a taxi as far as I'm concerned.

However, I'm bitterly disappointed to see Chica leave. The writing is on the wall, and for the life of me I do not understand why. Comparisons with OGS are fair in terms of his off-the bench impact, and whilst Chica may not have the same all round game as OGS, it strikes me that his speed and eye for a goal would have been invaluable over the last few weeks. His attitude seriously outshines those of both RVP and WR, and he has done nothing but respect this great club. He to me is one of the few that appreciates where he is and what he's doing. Sadly that enthusiasm has been dampened by a new manager that does not appreciate the gem he has, and if Chica does go this will turn out to be a serious mistake.

Questions should also be asked about how he has been deployed in the side. Moyes obsession with banging crossed in irrespective of who plays up front does nothing to help his game. Whist he is as good as anybody in the squad at finishing a decent cross (still remember seeing that backwards header at Stoke!), he needs through balls to run on to. Intelligent build up play with passes in to space to match his movement. This is not rocket-science coaching here.

Chica leading a line with Mata, Rooney and Kags/Jan behind him would have supplied him with the neat through balls that he used to thrive on. He also offers the speed to keep the back-four occupied which otherwise we do not have. Given thirty games a season and substitute appearance Chica would score 25 goals no doubt. His ability to occupy defences will also upon up gaps for other players. He is the only attacking player that offers true pace, particularly from a standing start.

Let's get this right. He has never let United down, however United have let him down significantly. Neither management regime has improved his hold-up play or to a lesser extent the timing of his runs, which if uber-critical is the area where he frustrates. He thrived on the shoulder of the last defender, and with some astute coaching on when to run Chica had the potential to become a player in the mould of a Gurd Muller or a Gary Lineker.

Every player has a weakness, and it is the responsibility of the coaching staff to find these and turn them in to a strength. Full stop. This has not happened, and quite frankly I see very few people on the coaching staff that can help with that. If I were a Glazer I would want to see coaching staff that can maintain a player's development through to his mid/late twenties.

So if this is the last season for Chica, and we all know it is, then it is a sad day. A raw talent that needed support and development has been let down by a football club that is bereft of quality coaches.

I work in sports psychology, and it is a core belief that subject to injury or ageing that if somebody has done something once they can do it again. He had a stellar season for United. He has not been injured. He has not passed his sell-by date, he has simply like a number of other players been handled very poorly.

It is about time that players were picked based on quality and shaped in to a cohesive unit with a footballing strategy. Chica has fallen foul of a manager who seems intent on shoe-horning big name players in to a system that doesn't seem to exist.

A sad day when he leaves.

I agree timbo. RvP and Rooney should take attitude lessons from Chicha.

Agree0 Disagree0

I love the little pea, but he is probably our 4th striker and if we can give that position to young Wilson and use the cash to buy a top left winger, it will benefit the squad. I also think it's better for his career to move on as he should be playing week in, week out. Same goes for Kagawa, I like Kagawa, but it will be best for him to move on. We can use that cash to go towards a top notch central midfielder. Nani, Anderson and a few youth will be sold to raise funds, perhaps one of Valencia or Young. Then with Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra, Giggs etc etc off it will free up some room on the wage bill. There is room for several signings this summer and we will be VERY busy. Another reason why I do not see Van Persie leaving, I just o not think there will be enough time this summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Chica has a great attitude and its a real shame that its not worked out for him at OT. But to be fair he has not warranted a place in the team. He has added nothing to his game while he has been here. He had a great first season because he was an unknown entity to the opposition, and teams didn't know how to play him. He was lightening quick and defenders were often caught out by his pace and movement. Now teams know how to defend against him and he has much less of an impact.
He will still score goals given chances, but his alround game is not good enough. I genuinely like the guy, but he just does not warrant a place infront of Rooney or RVP.

Agree0 Disagree0

Its like the old saying, if you really love someone, sometimes you have to set them free.

Hernandez has been exemplary at United but it's detrimental to his career to be used so sparingly and he really deserves to be a starter at another club. His game has gone backwards a bit too, or at the least, stalled. It's best for all parties to wish him well and let him leave.

Many players could take a leaf out of his book though.

I expect him to leave, and a youngster to be promoted who'll be happy with just a handful of appearance off the bench and maybe the odd cup game against a lower-level team.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hernandez has flattered to deceive on countless occasions over the past couple of years.

Best if he moves on so he can pick up his career in a slower league.

Recently we have changed style in the last two League games, we regressed in the CL but the foundations seem to have been laid for change. Hopefully we pick strong attacking teams against the coming games against Olympiakos and Liverpooll - I think Moyes needs to pick these teams to give himself some confidence.

My question is, if we stick to the 4-2-3-1 of recent games, are we going to see more of Kagawa? I personally think that we will see more of him and less of Young and Valencia.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hope you are right Fresh but I have my doubts.

There seems to be some gulf in the refereeing standards between the Premier league and European football. I don't think anyone wants it to become a none contact sport but just look at the number of red cards and even yellows in Europe for our teams. None of the games appeared particularly dirty to me.

Agree0 Disagree0

I definitely see one of Welbeck, Valencia or Young starting against Liverpool so we could see two of them start in Europe to see who performs best. I expect Adnan to play a part in both games, but perhaps not start. I think Young will start against Liverpool to help Evra out. When we have the players Moyes wants I can only see us playing a 4231. But with a better left side, better midfield and a settled back four we will be a much better side.
