my biggest problem at the minute is moyes's use of the 4-4-2 formation.A couple of problems with it are we don't have the players to play that formation, we have no left wingers and to play a 2 in the middle against against a 3 man midfield which most teams now play, the two central midfielders have to be outstandingly good, ours are just good players, we have the players for a 4-2-3-1 formation, and I believe we would compete with most top teams with that formation, playing carrick and fellaini behind a three of roo, kagawa and maybe nani, but I just don't see moyes changing even though its very obvious the best way to go with the team we have(in my opinion).

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Mick, I think that's the way he will play now that we have fellaini. I think that formation is preferred by the majority of our supporters too.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cheers AWM, I hope your right and moyes can see what's staring him in his face, i'm glad you agree.

Agree0 Disagree0

Although I think there is a debate for who plays in the nani position, its just I've feltfor some time that nani would be best served further in field where little one touch passez and flashes of brilliance are the order of the day, not much time for decision making like out on tge wing, but I may be wrong and cleverley or tony v may be better there, but my preferance would be nani.

Agree0 Disagree0

4-3-3 would be good for us as well, although it's difficult to accommodate Kagawa in this formation.

Just seen Moons post about Berba, there's no denying he is a skilful player but do you think he could have been moulded into the midfield distributer or skilful AM we seem to be crying out for?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

no, while undoubtedly highly talented he does not show now and never did show it consistently over a long period of games,, in fact he never showed it consistently in 1 game. flashes of brilliance but he never showed the right mentality to be a true great

Agree0 Disagree0

He was the laziest player I've seen for a long time. I never liked him due to his attitude. Waste of money.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry Nomidfield he was worth every penny apart from something like 30 goals 1 season he got 3 at anfield so although he didn't do as well as he should he still brought something to the show

Agree0 Disagree0

I think fulham fans are starting to think he is lazy now also. Great skill and ability but I wanted a bit more from him in some games.

Agree0 Disagree0

It looks like he's been chain smoking all summer judging from the first few games of this season for Fulham. No doubting his talent but was just never prepared to dig in and go that extra mile.

Agree0 Disagree0

The problem with Berbatov in my opinion was the manner he regarded certain duties. He never wanted to break on the counter and as a result slowed the game down to his own pace. This meant we couldn't utilise certain players to their best.

He was praised by all parties after his move to Fulham as he played with a spring in his step. He was quicker and eager all over the park.

Since th new year he has played deeper than usual for most of the game, with Ruiz coming on late and playing behind Berbatov. The team then plays better so Ruiz gets the praise.

A great player on his day but so terrible inconsistent for us. Yet still worth the money just for the hattrick!

A player who in my opinion goes completely unnoticed when it comes to brilliance.

One of the most skillful players i've ever seen, imo we were spoiled by Ronaldo, Rooney and at times Tevez. not to mention a flare combination of a new Nani and Anderson joining the ranks.

we also had Fletcher and/or Hargreaves doing all the dirty work so that Carrick and Scholes could play some of the best football that we've seen in years.

so, the man I'm talking about is considered by some to be a flop despite him scoring 22 goals in an EPL season.

Quite simply I believe Dimitar Berbatov doesn't get the respect or recognition he deserves for being a brilliant player and amazing professional both off and on the pitch.

its easy to forget how good he was; {Ed007's Note -

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Amazing talent, shame we didn't always get the best out of him, but the goal against Blackburn was sensational as too the one against Sunderland, but one thing I will never forget about the man is the hat trick vs Liverpool and especially that second goal!

Agree0 Disagree0

Always loved the guy! He was an absolute class act and I am disappointed we treated him that way, he should have started much more often before he left.

Fulham have a top professional on their hands and rightfully he is getting the first team football.

Agree0 Disagree0

Closest thing we've had to king Eric

Agree0 Disagree0

IMO RVP and berbatov could have been one of the best strike forces in EPL history.

especially if we utilized pace in the wings and in the CAM role.

Agree0 Disagree0

Berbatov was too slow for the style we play. Quality player, but not suited to MU.

Not posted in a while, just wanted to add a few views.

Fellaini is a great player. Will add much needed steel in midfield, offers aerial threat from set pieces and works hard to get the ball back. But let's be honest he was a little overpriced.

The transfer window was abysmal for us. We went in for Garay, Coentrao, Baines, Thiago, Di Maria, Fabregas, Fellaini, Strootman(not sure if we actually did?), Cristiano Ronaldo (who knows?) and to a certain extent Ozil.

And we came out with just Fellaini, Valera(?) and Zaha joining up with the squad. Other than Fabregas and Ronaldo I think all the other players were easily achievable targets.

Whether it be the glazers pockets tightening or dithering in the market it was a huge failure so i'm not surprised rivals are having a good laugh. But lessons will be learnt.

Personally I think Woodward is useless.

am I just old fashioned? not withstanding the lost bonus cash (which they would recoup 3fold by signing for united) I squarely place the blame on us not signing baines at the players door. if he really wanted to sign for us he could have publicly asked the club to sell him. in my mind he has shown a lack of desire to join us and a distinct lack of personal ambition. unlike fellaini. He needed to choose . Madrid always get their signings to declare to the club they are leaving that they want to leave and sign for Madrid. A player like Baines may have lost his big opportunity and its his own fault because he could have helped make it happen if he really wanted to. I would question the character of any player who does not do all he can and everything possible to play for Manchester United when that opportunity arises. It can't be the money as at United on and off field earnings are greater. Perhaps misguided loyalty? We all eventually forgave ronaldo for demanding his move because he was great for us and was straight with us. Baines in time would get similar respect at everton if he had joined United in my mind he bottled it and showed a lack of self belief. if he signs a new deal at everton ill be disappointed but if he refuses a new deal and asks for a move to united ill forgive him. ;0)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You make good point ken but you have to appreciate that once a players openly rejects his current club, its a long way back if the deal doesn't go through.

just ask odemwingie.

given how much faffing around utd did in this transfer window you can forgive baines being a little retisent about telling everton to get stuffed

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Sep 2013 22:20:34
fair point but I think in general players have to help the buying club if they want the deal to go through. everton could not afford to stick him in the reserves till Jan he would have forced the deal through

Love reading the stuff on here - was on the site a lot through the transfer window and now its closed I don't know what to use the internet for - so heres some of my thoughts.

1) Syd - why the downer on Moyes already? He wasnt my first choice to replace SAF - but a part of me didn't think the fella would retire. He has at least brought in a CM something Fergie hasn't prioritised for a few years (I'm counting Kags as a number 10)

2) Fellaini - i'm excited he's joined and looking forward to seeing him partner Carrick in what I expect will turn out to be variations on a 4-2-3-1 system

3) I don't care about 4-4-2 the system works if you have the best 2 CM players - and we haven't since Keano did his knee years ago. You also need great wingers previoulsy Giggs, Kanchelskis, Beckham, Ronaldo. A new system may get the best out of our current players. And if Moyes thinks Kags is lightweight then Carrick and Fellaini behind him may help him - got to give him a chance!

4) Giggs - got his chance at 16 or 17 - time to let the youngsters have a go - I would rather see that than continue with Giggsy at the moment - especially if it stops them leaving like Pogba

5) I watch the youngsters quite a bit. James Wilson could be the next Shearer if he continues - strong, quick and good finisher. Some other good young talents - Thorpe & Barmby to mention just two who haven't been around the first team yet.

6) Bought my 15 yo a United shirt with Fellaini 31 on it at weekend. He is now a mens size medium. It cost £ 70 - which a bloody lot of money to me. Anyway Woodward is good at getting commercial deals - there is talk of £ 1bn deal with Nike. With AIG then AON, Chevolet and the others you can choose not to spend on the product but with Nike or any kit manufacturer you cannot. So who will ultimately pay for the new deal? i'm in a captive market since i'm not going to change clubs - United til I die!

I am excited for the new season - we have been 26 years without this much change so obviously nervous too. The derby will be the real test for me - we have struggled at Anfield for quite a while.

Backing Moyes to win the title - learnt a lot - and then kick on in Europe next year.

Cheers if you read this.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hey Jacko, good post and some interesting points made. You should post more often!

I too am hoping we get to see Carrick, Fellaini and Kagawa on the pitch at once, between them they have a bit of everything.

Agree0 Disagree0

I am fully behind Moyes. He will make mistakes, it's learning from them that's important and I think he will earn from them.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry - did you just describe Shearer as being pacey?! Must have missed that!

Agree0 Disagree0

DodgyBanter

Unfortunately I'm old enough to remember shearer when he was at Soton and Blackburn - he was pacey before he did his ligaments (which was coincidently just after he turned down United for the Toon)

He would have been the business with Eric

HoneyBadger - cheers

Sorry Sydney - must be getting wrong end of the stick

Agree0 Disagree0

Jacko,

I agree with hb, you should post more often, intelligent points and clearly very knowledgable about football and united and level headed.

Kloot won't be happy with your 15 year old wearing his replica shirt though!

Agree0 Disagree0

Am really hoping to see Kagawa playing in front of Fro and Carrick but I can't see it happening.

At Evertoon DM has played strong and aerially competent AM/SS.Last few years it has been Fro, and before him Cahill, and when he first took charge he had Duncan Ferguson.

This suggests to me that Rooney will be preferred centrally due to his bullish nature, leaving Kagawa to occupy a wider position.

It comes down to whether or not you trust the editor, I do.

That added to what is being released by media now cannot be a coincidence.
Sydney!"""
dear mr Sydney
some editors actually pick rumors from sites like these
and some people from sites like these cleverly start rumors to appease their little fan base
well journalists perpetuate their story telling on sites like these to substantiate their reports
and the rest of the followers just lap it up. on sites like these.
ngiak loves you humans
gan

Believable0 Unbelievable0

One of the editors of this site told us during the Thiago saga that Moyes doesn't fancy him as he doesn't feel he is built for the EPL. Six weeks later (or more) websites are writing the exact same thing. They are receiving their little nuggets of info now, one of the editors was receiving it at the time.

Agree0 Disagree0

Are you a character from Lord of the Rings?

Agree0 Disagree0

Pancho, don't be daft, he's a penguin, duh!

Agree0 Disagree0

Of course silly me! It was the constant third person talk that fooled me making me think he was from middle earth!

to all the hungry spendthrifts over here
there will be two additions coming very soon
theoretically by next week so ngiak hears
but some processes may take longer
gan"

careful Ngiak ;)
Sydney!""
dear mr Sydney
thank you for dredging that up
certainly helps ngiak's case against the "certainties" group here
firstly it was something ngiak heard from a different source outside the club's main staff
at that time there were probably at least those two transfers being planned
they may even have planned more
well whether they were right or not
ngiak and whoever over here will certainly not know
ngiak just reports what the financial sector and legal sector plan.
gan

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Fair enough Gan, just showing that not everyone is correct all the time. Even editors who have impeccable sources get one or two things wrong. Everyone is human my friend.

Agree0 Disagree0

. Or penguin

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes, humans or birds.

Agree0 Disagree0

With the utmost respect afforded you Mr Gan what predictions have you ever got right? Just curious old chum!
Cosh

Agree0 Disagree0

Sydney you make a good point. Gan or ngiak knows nothing and somehow has convinced himself that talking about himself in the third person makes himself different. It just makes him a tool

Agree0 Disagree0

With the greatest respect football transfers are so fluid that as Sydney said even the eds provide info that then changes and does not bear fruition. For example should we have had a decent source at real we may have been told this window that coentrao is joining considering paperwork was completed but real pulled the plug, this wouldn't have been wrong at the time. I appreciate that people post any Info they may have and as users of the site we get to make our own mind up if we believe it or not and have banter about it. Some posts recently have received abuse and I kinda feel this may put off people from sharing info. Remember we all visit as we have a genuine love for united and want the best for our club(and should respect individuals own views on this regardless if they are not the same views as us)

Agree0 Disagree0

Books, exactly, all 002 could do is provide us with info of who we are targeting. Due to enquiries being made for that player or bids made. But when SAF retired it seems those targets were binned and Moyes had his own ideas. I think we all expected him to want Fellaini & Baines though.

Agree0 Disagree0

To me no one could have predicted the seemingly epic cock up "The Equaliser" managed to perpetrate, heaping such a massive amount of embarrassment on the club

Agree0 Disagree0

Common kloot, don't be shy. say what you mean

Just read where Nani gave an interview stating that DM convinced him stay at United and that Moyes would not guarantee him a starting spot unless he earned it.

It might turn out to be a brilliant move by Moyes. he has Nani now vowing to fight for his place rather than thinking he should just walk onto the team he now has a player with unreal talent (although has not shown it consistently enough) that believes he has the backing of the manager and we have a player who most likely would have walked out of our club next summer for absolutely nothing tied down to a 5 yr contract.

All in all has to be seen as positive no matter what peoples opinion on Nani are.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We'll either get more money out of it or a better player. It's a win win for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

Except we won't get a corner into the box all year

Agree0 Disagree0

Andrew usually Rooney takes the left corner's while RvP is on the other side.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes Ozwald but surely Rooney and RVP should be in the box, not taking corners.

Agree0 Disagree0

Paulo, my point exactly. We need Nani to practice his corners so we can have the likes of RvP & Rooney both in the box where they belong.

Guys I know this is the united page but I wonder did any of you watch the Petrov charity match? I missed the game myself but I have seen the reception he got, and well it brought years to my eyes a great man who deserved it. An inspiration to many and if any of you haven't seen the You'll Never Walk Alone the fans gave him I suggest you go and see it. Amazing, beautiful and emotional, I think it's times like these football shows what a wonderful sport it is! As a Celtic follower I even had rangers fans telling me how they were emotionally moved by it today. All I can say is I hope our team adopts a simar fighting spirit to that of Stiliyan Petrov. Get well soon Stan.
