First time poster but long term follower. Be gentle guys!

Not a rumour more of a suggestion. With Falcao being touted across various sites could we see Van Gaal doing one of his position conversions to move Rooney to midfield? For me, Rooney is the closest to Scholes there is and could be the answer to our midfield woes once Herrera is fit again.

1.) Saying "Rooney is closest to Scholes" is amazing. I can see what you are trying to say - Rooney does make some sublime long range passes deep from midfield but, he is not the answer to our midfield.

Rooney doesn't have the close control, technical ability and the consistency to play in that midfield. He will more often than not give the ball away with careless passing or by trying something too clever. And the most important thing is Scholes was not only a master of passing, he was very clever in able to find spaces and time on the ball and he would set the tempo of our play, which Rooney would not be able to achieve at all.

I would rather have a specialist CM with mobility, decent pace and one who can break up play and set us up for counter attacks.

2.) Rooney will be a terrible midfielder and the only thing in common with scholsy is maybe the brand of shoes they wear on the pitch.

Rooney's lacks what scholes, pirlo, iniesta, xavi have/had which is ultimate control and creating space for themselves and calmness of seeing a pass. He tends to run across the pitch with the ball due to his poor first touch and half the time facing the wrong way.

3.) Rooney should be playing beach football. It made me laugh during the World Cup when the pundits especially Hoddle were crucifying David Luiz for roaming about and "playing the game like he is on the school playground still", yet we have the master of school football now Captain of both the country and our Club, but none of our biased pundits would say it.

If Rooney is to play anywhere for our team it needs to be up front and stay up front. This long passing he is getting praised for is one ball he plays to the right flank, not always successful and more often than not it takes that long to get there that the opposition have time to move across, so all he is really doing is slowing the game down further - then struggling to make the ground into the box, so we have limited options anyway. He just isn't good enough to play in central midfield it takes ages to learn the role and is one of the hardest in football, plus he can't tackle, freekick City!
