A question to those crying that we will be the losers if Rooney leaves: where is he going to play for us if he stays?

RVP is the first choice striker and most people on here want Kagawa to play off him, so where does that leave
Rooney?

Play him out wide and he'll complain about being out of position, he's not good enough for midfield and playing him behind the striker will mean we never see the best of Kagawa.

Personally I think he should go thanks to his attitude alone, but this positional conundrum is just another nail in the coffin as far as I can see.

Phred

1.) It's a squad game. We play enough games for RVP, Rooney and Kagawa to play.
Play RVP up top with Rooney behind or Rooney up top with Kagawa behind or RVP up top with Kagawa behind.
Shouldn't even be a discussion in my mind, plenty of minutes for everyone

2.) We could always play 2 up front with Kagawa playing in a CAM position behind?

Unfortunately our midfield at the moment is too weak for that to work and Moyes seems too afraid to play 2 up top (at least he did whilst at Everton).

3.) Agree 100% Phred. Kagawa needs to play in the hole to maximise his potential and at the moment that potential is greater than a player who doesn't want to play for the club. Klopp said earlier in the season it breaks his heart to see Kagawa played out of position. Personally, I think Fergie started planning Rooney's exit the day the first transfer request was submitted. He just needed time for new signings to bed in. I think the signings of Kagawa and RVP prove that. I'd be happy for United to sell Rooney and bring in a top quality midfielder and a winger. We could probably afford to pay the wages of 2 quality signings if Rooney's excessive wages were cut from the wage bill. One thing for sure, there is no way back for Rooney at United now. United fans will not accept him now. There is too much water under the bridge.

OK so we lost Thiago, it's not a massive thing as we lost out on other players before and we're still here. Anyway, I've got to thinking about our team next year and think that with 4 signings playing a 4-3-3 we could challenge on all fronts.

Baines

So much more solid than Evra and will help to stop us leaking goals down the left. His deliveries as well are excellent and he gets forward well. I can't see a better option right now.

Gustavo/Koke/Schniederlin

An enforcer to sit with Carrick and add some much needed physical presence to our midfield. All these guys are decent technically also and would free Carrick up to be our Xavi-type player controlling the tempo.

Modric/Marchisio/Eriksen/Kroos/Torres

A player to play in front of the other two in a freer role, able to float around linking the play together, whilst also chipping in with a few goals and assists.

Ronaldo/Reus/Lamela/Di Maria/Sanchez

A wide forward of real quality, and a chance for Mr Woodward to open his purse strings. Any of these would provide a direct threat, with pace and skill, and hopefully score plenty of goals.

I think any combination of those would take us up to the next level, particularly the first name for each (my preferences). What do you guys reckon and any other options?

Phred

1.) Thank you For your thoughts Mr Moyes!

2.) Forgot Verratti and Lars Bender as options for the deeper role.

3.) Good post Phred, I think the club may look at Vidal for the CDM role, as he would improve us both defensively and creatively and would allow Carrick more freedom as well the added bonus of selling plenty of shirts in Chile. Another thing I would prefer Reus for the winger role, so much potential and already near world class, he would score plenty of goals and would be a massive threat to any team. Lastly I would love Fabregas for the CAM role, since he would provide loads of goals and assists and takes good set pieces.

I don't post often, but having just watched Manchester United U21s beat Tottenham U21s 3-2, having been 2-0 down, I felt compelled to share my thoughts.

We all want to see free-flowing, attacking football from our first team and the senior players could do worse than look at the U21s, where the attacking football is brilliant. The link-up play and creativity of Cole, Lingard, Lawrence and especially Januzaj is superb and gets you excited as a fan.
I really think Januzaj should feature for the first team next year, he simply oozes class and glides over the pitch effortlessly, while still being surprisingly good in the air - a definite future world class player.

There are a number of players there with a real chance of making it, I just hope they push on and don't get arrogant.

Anyway, just thought I share a few opinions - I'm sure there are others of you who can expand and I'd be pleased to hear what you think. {Ed004's Note - The most promising thing about Januzaj is still how young he is. The majority of those players are 2-3 years older than him and he stood out.}

Phred

1.) Januzaj reminds me of a Ginola type player.
Both footed, effortlessly goes away from players and seems quite strong too.

2.) What a match and what a ball from januzaj

Simply oozes class what a potential he is.

Singh

3.) Totally agree not many seem to mention lingard and cole as future 1st teamers but I am always impressed with them whenever I watch them!talented bunch of lads with a lot of talent also in the younger group also.
By the way what happening with Blackett is he injured?
LP

4.) I'm hoping some of them get a little more game time with the seniors under Moyes. Fergie wasn't quite so brave blooding young players in his last few seasons, and I think it can really benefit them to play against better opposition. It's certainly hard to see how the likes of Januzaj, Powell and Lingard would have done worse for us than Anderson, Nani and Young in some of our games this season. You only have to look at how much two young players given their chances - Rafael and De Gea - have improved with game time to see it's worth the risk.

I literally would not be bothered if Valencia never played for us again - how a winger who has zero left foot and no skills (stepovers etc) at all can play for us I cannot understand.
As far as I'm concerned he is the attacking version of Evra - where Evra can't defend but is good going forwards, Valencia is the opposite.
Work rate alone should not be enough to make our first team.

I think Jones will play in midfield, as Anderson started yesterday, with Evans coming in. Also I imagine Young will start on the left as he was rested, with Welbeck benched. Apart from that I think you're there Fresh!

I think even those who say Rooney is declining know that he is still a dangerous player who will do well for whoever buys him (initially at least).

The problem people like me have with keeping him is that he is a disruptive influence with a big ego that surely must be, and will continue to be, damaging to the squad.

He may do well for another club, but I don't think he would be as good for us, simply because he is unhappy and unhappy players don't play at 100%.

Strootman, Varela, Baines, Thiago, Di Maria.

I'd be happy with that.
