Ronaldo will be announced next week.
There is no headline "fee" as a unique deal has been structured which is based on the MUFC stock price and a share option deal with Real Madrid at a preferential rate. It is labyrinthine in nature but basically Ronaldo is considered a massive marketing device and as such the turnover and net profit generated will cause the share price to surge and then a second tranche will be made as an IPO by the Glazers leaving them 51% controlling stake and all debts paid off.
It`s boring but Ronaldo is a lynchpin and is the poster boy to drive everything toward that end. It is as much about brand, column inches and photos of sponsors brands as goals and trophies.
Ronaldo will be made Captain and the No7 shirt will be his. Chevrolet and Nike are contributing significantly to his "package" and it is too simplistic to put it in terms of $x per week - Its a long view from CR7s representatives but the over all payday is somewhere approaching $250m to $400m depending on share price performances for Nike, GM and of course MUFC.
The reason Woodward has been so long backj dealing with this is that it is a very complex and multi-layered deal and one that no other club could match without the financial sophistication of the Blue Chip companies involved.
Forget any headline Transfer fees or wages as the deal being structured is much more contrived.
In short, the papers will be drawn up, signed and sealed and CR7 will be in Red again and he will be better than ever and be a the mature leader that Cantona was and then some.
Sorry if this is boring but it hopeful explains the different complexities involved with global strategists than the more blunt approach that City takes with their pseudo-stars.

1.) This sounds too sophisticated to be rubbish. so ill give it some credibility points.

2.) Wow! If this is BS FairPlay it would have taken a lot of thinking up just couldn't see Madrid taking such a gamble in not receiving a fee.

3.) I want to believe this but I can't see Ronaldo donning the united jersey again. may be the pessimist talking but I just. can't

4.) So in English. real madrid will recieve a % share of the $250 - $400 from the marketing of Ronaldo returning to old Trafford?

5.) Are you 100% of this mate because I've let myself dream before!

6.) Well said. We just have to wait fr anything big to happen. soon

Eduardo

7.) I've no idea how to respond to this, so I won't.

UncleMalc

8.) So you are suggesting Real Madrid are going to accept shares in Manchester United as payment for Ronaldo? Hmmmm!

9.) I like your confidence but I can't see RM agreeing to a deal where they are not guaranteed a set amount of money.

Stocks and shares are so volatile and RM would be taking a risk if they just accepted this deal.

Unless the deal includes a back up fee where United will pay x amount if the shares don't do as well as anticipated then I really don't see this happening.

Obviously I hope to god it does happen though!

#ags

10.) From a business perspective, why would RM take a stack of options from MU? MU stock is now at around $16 having come back down from an all time high of about $19. 6. The stock is very thinly traded most days, around 30K shares.

For an option to be attractive, the strike price (the price at which RM can convert at) much be very attractive, or put it simply, as low as possible. The time that RM has to convert their option into MU stock must also be reasonably short. If and when they convert, MU technically will have one of their biggest European rivals as likely their single largest shareholder outside of the Glazers. Whether this will create an issue in Europe at UEFA level no one knows.

If the strike is set too low, then it is bad for the stock. If its set too high then RM may not like it. Technically the strike should be higher than some x days average as this would indicate to the market that mgmt. has confidence in the deal and that the stock will rise accordingly. The strike price needs to be set that RM can get 80M quid worst case and best case a hell of a lot more. So - this is not an easy deal to put together and certainly warrants Woodward to go back mid-tour. A simple transfer like Cesc Fabregas should not require so much mind share.

Bottom line - I think Ron deal is real. I think Ron deal is complex and I think this Fabregas things is just a smoke screen. If Ron comes back Roo can go fu#k himself

11.) Not a chance will the Glazers be giving up a stake in the club to fund a transfer.
Interesting reading none the less.
Rick

12.) This is either true (in which case where do you get your info considering it could be viewed as insider trading information and is amazing detailed) or you spent a lot of time coming up with the most complex fake rumour I've seen on this site. Either way, well done cusco.

13.) If that's a made up rumour, well done! Hope it's true, would love Ronnie back! And the debt paid off. Would be the best transfer window ever.

14.) This all sounded plausible until you started waxing lyrical about how brilliant Ronaldo is going to be. Became a biased piece then and revealed that you have no genuine insight.

15.) I have no idea if you have any sources, if there's any truth in this, or if you have simply made it all up. However, it's one of the best and most delicious rumours on here. KLOOT in particular will love the irony. We sign Ronaldo, in order to push the share price up, in order to make more money for the Glazers.

16.) I would love OUR Ronnie to return and hope this is true but he's just put his house in alderley edge up for sale in the last few weeks so he wouldn't do that if he was coming back. its on rightmove for 3. 75 mill. gutted.

17.) Deluded, completely fabricated story.
I can't believe everyone is getting so excited about this story. There is no evidence to say that we are talking to Ronaldo.

Simmo

18.) Haha rubbish! Madrid don't sell players like ronaldo! united don't have the clout to buy him back

19.) You are all missing the most important part of the rumour, THE DEBT WILL BE PAID OFF! If this happens we will be laughing under financial fair play. Given our robust business model and blue chip sponsors as well as the largest club stadium in the land our revenue streams from footballing activities will be unmatchable as such so will our spending. let's pray this happens and uefa enforce ffp.

20.) Anyone thought all this publicity about 'talks' to bring ronaldo back could be to increase the sales of shares in order to gain capital? If ronaldo does come home then surely the share price would rocket!

21.) Really interesting post. Are you sure real will be offered options in united stock? I think a %age in the merchandising sounds like it could interest real madrid, but would they want to invest in man u just to sell a player?

- Or is that what you mean by saying its "tranched. " Will they literally split off a portion of the manchester united portfolio related to ronaldo merchandising, and create a fixed rate bond vehicle that rm would then be purchasing. So they will be option holders in a portion of uniteds stock, but not literally exposed to the united share price movement. Of course the infamous example of this being with the mortgage backed securities which crashed the markets a few years ago. wouldn't it be ironic if they did that to real madrid! Just joking :P, no one wants to see financial instability in the game. It even hurts me to see what's happened to arsenal.

- If this is true I think its a great way for united to go forward. We have the ability to appeal to sponsors the way no other club has, and I think woodward and co. deserve some credit if they are smart enough to use this as a way to compete in the transfer market. GGMU

22.) Ronaldo always said his house in manchester wasn't good enough for whst he wanted. So selling it would make sense if he was buying another one

23.) While i'm hopeful of his return, I can't see this post being true purely because how would you know how the deal is structured? Can't imagine many people at all would know, if this is true.

Ozwald

24.) WOW! Simply wow!

You my friend have just raised the bar for fake rumours to astronomical levels. From now on, all other fake rumours are going to look pathetic, no matter what they make up.

Then again, if what you say has any truth, I am going to be one very happy chappy.

Either way, I enjoyed your post. Feel free to post and no doubt annoy KLOOT immensely anytime :-)

Brendan81

25.) Forget about RM share's. GM Motors and NIKE both want him back at OT, but especially NIKE they don't want to c him in an adidis shirt just before the world cup. That's the company side or it. So there' reason why it couldn't happen. They make so much back in shirt sales in the first year. 60-40 he's coming home

26.) This makes perfect sense. Both clubs would profit from the deal in the short and long term; plus both clubs would more than meet the financial fair play rules. Madrid could then possibly sign both Bale and Suarez, and still be able to balance the books.

I am actually begining to believe this could happen.

Fingers crossed

SLred

27.) What makes this more believable for me is Woodwards background, if anyone were to come up with a deal of this complexity they would have to be from a strong financial background instead of a sporting one.

given Woodwards former position as a senior investment banker at JP Morgan and that he developed the new commercial strategy for the club (ie promoting the brand/ philosophy of Man Utd) it makes a lot of sense to use Ronaldo as a commercial vehicle to becoming debt free, which of course would only serve to make us more desirable on the stock market.
IF this is true then I could not see any other club being able to create a deal of this kind. also this would surely mean the end for Rooney, with players like Rvp, Giggs and Ronaldo being the focus of what is utd (professional, class etc) rooney seems less and less the embodiment of these qualities

28.) Still don't understand why Real would need to sell. Barcelona bought Neymar but didn't have to sell Messi. It's just wishful thinking dressed up with some highly unlikely business talk. Why would anyone want United to have a share owned by another huge football team. It's like Microsoft part selling to Google. I for one don't want 5 -10% of my club owned bu Real Madrid, not even for CR7. CR7 will be 29 in a few months and you really think it's worth selling a slice of the great Manchester United for -s***
Mik

29.) Agree with Dags comment 100%. I appreciate there are other members if the squad who may be no angels but surely Rooneys 'rep' off field is the worst of the lot.

Ronaldo is a marketing mans dream. £80m however it's financed to get Ronaldo home where he wants to play and getting rid of Rooney for the £40m Chekski are rumoured to be bidding would make great sense. The economics of having Ronaldo back and extra shirt sales etc especially in Asia etc would mean that £40m gap could be closed relatively quickly.

Lets not forget a front 3 of Ronaldo RVP and Kagawa, supported by a genuine world class midfield recruit that we look to be aiming for could mean, a crack at Champs League glory and not just PL retention is what we are capable of. And in a World Cup year being the Chsmpions of Europe would surely mean appreciably greater revenue also.

Lets hope Ronaldo coming home has legs!

Halesini

30.) Would be plausible if Real Madrid weren't the highest value club in global soccer. Real Madrid would be more the capable of raising whatever they need to keep Ronaldo in Spain. My money is on Ronaldo signing a new final mega deal at madrid in the next couple of weeks. Sorry

31.) Madrid are not as financially stable as people are lead to believe. Also, when we finish all our sponsorship deals and bring in the new T. V money, we'll match there revenue and get back to being the biggest club in the world again with our fan base.

32.) When I see rumours like this I can't help but think of Reservoir Dogs and a good story being all in the details.

I actually fancy Ronaldo to return to United, but the above is completely fabricated. Great effort to come up with it though, your business studies tutor must be proud.

Strategy leaked :

Based on Tampa model - Sell tickets based on expectation of marquee signings and announce that money will be spent like never before.

Make all the noises and leak all the media fodder to appear to be active.

Appearing to have been "unlucky" we then announce the signing of Felaini who we agreed to buy for £21m - The figure announced will be 27.5 but that will include the £6.5m compensation for taking Moyes but will make it appear to the fans that we threw money at a signing like we promised we would.

We Loan out players like Powell and Daeli so that we don't have to pay wages and that will subsidise the Felaini salary. Same for Bebe if anyone is daft enough.

Lets be clear about Woodward - Ed Woodward structured the leverage buy out for the Glazers. A FANTASTIC deal for the Glazers. He is the Glazers man and he is all about the bottom line on the balance sheet and gets renumerated accordingly. It is specifically NOT in his interest to spend 100million on players.
Woodward isn't a fool, he just fooled us into thinking he was one.

cuscochris

1.) I've been starting to think this for the past 3 hours. While we're all here thinking he hasn't got a clue what he's doing, he knows exactly what he's doing. You can tell by looking at his little sly face.

2.) Bit like George Bush Jr lol.

GOOD NEWS! Apparently whilst everyone was distracted with the Hererra non-deal Woodward was securing a deal for Pirelli to become the club`s fourth official tyre sponsor thereby making the club the first in history to have a sponsor for each wheel of the Team Bus.
Get in there!
Now who thinks he`s incompetent

cuscochris

1.) I thought you'd never come back to this site after posting that detailed Ronaldo runour a while back. Make that, we all wished you'd never come back.

Glazers pushing for Rooney sale to Chelsea to fund Herrera bid +wages and Felaini wages. Glazers keen to get new players and also reduce overall wage bill by 60k a week by selling Rooney - Herrera and Felaini both to be given 5 year deals on £100k/week + bonuses
Chelsea want a 1 for 1 swap with Mata and Rooney
