I hope we are interested in both especially since the Griezeman option was taken away. I would like to think that Belotti is also still being considered, we do not score enough goals. Whatever people think of him, Lukaku is a proven scorer in the EPL and I know some criticise his record against the 'top' club's, but last season it was our inability to beat the so called lesser clubs that cost us dear.
I've also seen some comments saying that Lukaku won't help us beat Europe's best, I don't see that as an issue at the moment. Let's get back to competing for the EPL and being the best team in England first, if we can achieve that then we will be more appealing to the very top players. Some players will want to play for us because of our history but most of the top players want to be competing to win leagues and the CL.
Since Fergie left we have struggled to compete, so first and foremost let's concentrate on seriously competing for the EPL, the rest will follow.

I find the OP an embarrassment, for a supporter who professes to support a club for over 40 years to link the signing of Fellani to an embarrassing period for the club. Fellani's skills doesn't match the club's values, pray tell me what these club's values are?
A certain player is idolised by many, yet he walked out on the club more than once, refused to play, but is deemed a club great, what club value does that highlight?
We had a manager who was having an affair with the club physio's wife, yet another club value?
Over your 40 years watching you must have been embarrassed for nearly half of that period because we have certainly signed plenty of players that had similar or even less ability to Fellani's.
You really need to get over your hate for Moyes, after all, you told us all that LVG was the answer, like to run through his 'embarrassing' transfers or talk us through the scintillating attacking football (club values? ) that he produced.
I'd like to see your list of club values, presumably your happy to tell us all.

My concern is not so much the quality of the players we are after but more the timing of any further signings as this could have a significant impact on the start to our season. Looking at our first 6 games, they are all winnable, but if we are integrating key players in our team this may impact negatively on results. Looking at a few of the top teams their first 6 games are also winnable so we don't want to be playing catch up
José has stated he wanted 4 players and gave the club the names at the end of last season, hoping they would have a full pre-season with us. Time is moving on and if José sees Persisc (spelling) as a key signing then pay the £48m, after all a successful season would see the excess paid recouped several times over.

Red Man, I agree with you, we have lost Ibra's goals and gained Lukaku's goals so not a lot of difference in the goals dept.
I'm hoping that one of the following happen if we are to make a serious title challenge;
a) Playing Lukaku allows us to play with more pace, which will result in more goals as we won't allow the opposition to get everyone behind the ball when we attack.
b) Collectively we see more goals from Rashford, Martial, Pogba, Mikki etc.
c) We sign a player that allows us to change formation, giving Pogba and Mikki etc more freedom to be influential in the final 3rd.
d) We sign a Sanchez like player, the downside is this would most likely limit both Rashford and Martial's playing time.
At the moment I'm not sure where the extra goals required to be serious challengers are going to come from.
We have plenty of time left in the transfer window and have no doubts that Jose will have a solution in mind, after all he regularly said last year about our lack of goals.

Ken, you certainly made me chuckle, Wenger is no fool, yet you have a feeling that he will sign Smalling. A player who some fans on here think is not a winner, at best a player whose capabilities will contribute to a 4th / 5th place finish, he can't defend, he can't pass etc etc. Surely only a fool would sign him?

GDS2 - nice to see you have faith in our youth players, we could always buy players like Di Maria / Zlatan or maybe loan someone like Falcao because that will guarantee a title challenge.
