Being reported on Sky Sports that RB Leipzig are interested in Rasmus Hojlund. Make of that what you will.

I did wonder whether Zirkzee or Højlund might end up being a part of the discussions. Both looked a lot better playing on the continent than they have in England and one of them will see their game time severely limited if we bring in another striker.

From Leipzig’s point of view, including Hojlund in any potential deal (either as a permanent transfer or on loan) makes a lot of sense. They get a ready made replacement and get to pocket any fee that we’d pay. There aren’t many decent strikers around these days, and those that are available will cost an arm and a leg (more so if clubs know you’ve just bought in €100m+ through the sales of Sesko and Simonds) .

I’m a little surprised that Liverpool haven’t offered Leipzig Nunez. Nunez + cash->Leipzig, Sesko + cash->Newcastle, and Isak->Liverpool seems like a fairly decent deal all round, considering Leipzig and Newcastle seem destined to lose Sesko and Isak either way.

I'm in two minds over him going to Leipzig as part of any deal.

I've seen a few thing in pre-season that suggests with good coaching and a better team around him I wouldn't write Hojlund off just yet. If he plays to his strengths and improves he could work very well in this Amorim system.

I'm starting to think that the reason he might have started dropping deeper was to actually get on the ball as he just wasn't being passed to in the final third last season. With more creative and less selfish players in the team then maybe he won't need to drop deep and play to his weaknesses to get on the ball.

That said if Sesko joins then on one hand his game time could be limited, and he needs to play to improve. On the other hand if we let him go then that still leaves us light up top.

I wouldn't be entirely against a loan to get him regular game time and a chance to rebuild his confidence while still being able to bring him back to the club next summer or possibly sell him for a higher fee if he's done well and we don't need/ want him back.

While we have options like Zirkzee, Cunha or Mbeumo who can play up top if needed. It probably isn't a position to get the best out of them. Which really would only leave Chido Obi as an alternative to Sesko if we let Hojlund leave, either permanently or on loan.

Personally if we sign Sesko then I'd rather keep Hojlund and rotate the two of them and send Chido Obi out on loan.

I've just got this feeling that Hojlund, along with a few others, will have a much improved season and start to prove the doubters (myself included on last seasons form) wrong.

I completely agree Shappy. He is still young and learning, he had zero service all season the stats back that up. I think with cunha mbuemo around him they will create chances for him. No doubt if he leaves he will score goals and develop into a great striker. Look at how other players have left and done so well.

I’m inclined to agree, Shappy, which is why I mentioned a potential loan. Not sure if that’s something that would interest Leipzig without a concrete option to buy, but it would certainly suit both us and Hojlund. If the plan isn’t to bring in a more experienced striker for him to learn from, I think he would benefit from a season or two at a smaller club.

I think that’s fair. But I don’t see him training every day. If Amorim thinks he’s not up to it, then a season in Germany and banging a few in feels right.

That being said. Sesko does not convince me to be honest.

We can all agree that Hjolund got little or no service last season. His effort off the ball wasn't good enough. He rarely showed passion or determination.

Perhaps some of this is down to a lack of maturity and guidance from within the club. Garnocho playing with his head down week in an dout certainly didn't help.

In an ideal world Utd would sign Seko and keep Hjolund, with bith players going on to have an excellent season. Realistically that won't happen.

I will say this, Hjolund ha looked sharper, fiiter and far more determined this pre season. Never right a player off, as it could come back to haunt you.

Rasmus was shocking last season in nearly every respect. He cut a very frustrated figure. Who could blame him at times? But he also did not help himself an awful lot of the time.
He should do better with better movement around him and better service.
He has an awful lot to prove. If the coaches think he can improve enough and finances dictate we don't have to sell him to buy another then that would be a pretty good result.

Putting in a bit of effort against teams also preparing and looking for fitness, should not be the way to judge a player, the 30 odd games last season should be all the judgement needed, he got to improve far far too much for that to happen in one pre season, he needs to lose the ego, he needs a better first touch, hold the ball up and be given a strikers brain, then he maybe able to improve and when a player starts making excuses of remember I am only young is a big red flag!

While he has done okay in European matches, 14 goals in 64 PL games isn’t a great return.

RB are rumoured to want loan deal for Hojlund, that is good leverage in the Sesko negotiations and means if he does well, then he can come back next year and compete again.

He's got an awful lot to improve. But unlike his biggest fan I don't have any doubts over his character or ego and not sure why they keep getting dragged into it.
He was never meant to be the main man, then Martial got one of his lengthy injuries after getting a paper cut and Rasmus ended up as the only option. Utd can be held accountable for a lot of this beginning with a massive overvaluation along with not signing a striker of any ilk in the winter window. Good enough or not he was hung out to dry. I'd like to see him stay but more than likely we can use any dosh to better effect.

Spot on Spenno folk expect young lads to be at RVP level upon arriving. Let's see how he does this season.

People are ignoring the most important thing - Hojlund doesn’t want Leipzig.

In fact, Hojlund doesn’t want to leave at all.

Which is why I firmly believe we won’t sign a striker and that Amorim will tweak things slightly and use Cunha and Mbeumo as split strikers with Bruno between them.

They clearly tried to sign Delap and and clearly in for Sesko Downsie, it needs more than a slight tweak lol.

If anyone thinks Hojlund was anything but awful last season then they need to go watch the games live. He is the WORST striker in the prem for holding the ball up. Literally everytime it’s played into his feet he loses it. He gets muscled off the ball like a child and never wins a header. No wonder he didn’t get much service, I wouldn’t have been passing to him either. Sesko would be a massive improvement and I’d be glad to see Hojlund go the other way. He’s not good enough and won’t ever be.
