Looks like if we cannot agree terms for Baleba then we will move for Adam Wharton.

And Donnarumma too if reports are to be believed.

Donnarumma, is rumoured to be available for around £26 million. A bargain price.

I think this is just the standard time in the media where United have just signed a big target and the media are linking us to everyone to keep getting clicks as they can't do anymore Sesko stories.
Donnarumma I highly doubt we will go for. He's just a big name keeper who is available and we have Onana who has struggled. I expect it's just the media putting 2 and 2 together and coming up is 7 again. The reason he is available is that he hasn't been able to agree a new deal with "moneybags" PSG because he's demanding too high a wage (400k supposedly) . Given that the highest wages given to a new signing under INEOS is 195k that was given to MdL (who had to accept a paycut to join btw) I highly doubt the club will entertain the kind of wages he will demand.
Wharton is someone the club have been linked to in the past, and is English. It's an easy throwaway link the media can make with us to get those clicks. Logically how would anyone in the media know who the club will turn to as a contingency if the Baleba deal doesn't work out?
United have been pretty consistent in identifying a target and then having a single focus on getting that player until either they are signed or it's clear the move won't happen. Only then have they started the process of moving to an alternative target and that is when the press will possibly be able to start to hear the whispers.
I'd imagine that no one outside of the club has any genuine knowledge on who the club might move for if we can't sign Baleba. Hell it might be the case that if we can't get him this summer that we sign no one for midfield and focus on getting a deal done for him early next summer. That might even be United's plan, to make the effort now knowing it won't happen, but agree a deal with Brighton for next summer as a "compromise".
If I was a betting man then the only signings I'd place money on United signing between now and the end of the window are Baleba (who I actually think will happen), and possibly Lammens if someone comes in for Bayindir.

Donnaruma is one of the best in his position: a position which is arguably our weakest by far. £26m is a bargain for a player of his ability, and would still represent excellent value for money despite his high wages (reports suggest that he’s on around £200,000 a week, which is only £80,000 more than Onana - or £20 million more over the course of a five year deal) . The total package for Donnaruma (transfer fee + wages) would be lower than the deal we agreed for Onana. Considering a lot of people on here (including you, Shappy) were saying what an excellent signing Onana was when we signed him, I don’t know how anybody could try to argue that Donnaruma wouldn’t represent good business.

RA is still searching for an experienced CB with pace, I know for a fact…. He is seeing very little between McGuire and Deligt and making do with them both and both are too slow and ponderous for what he wants.

You’re be surprised……your choice if you believe me or not AJH…. and today’s game again showing the reason why, shambles at back in centre for there goal, this defence will get crucified every game against decent teams.

If he is not looking he should be, well his scouts should be.
We should gift Barcelona Rashford in direct exchange for Cubarsi.
Of all the central CB available he is the one we should be courting.

Exactly Jimbo. Anyone with an ounce of sense knows that clubs are always looking and more so us, because the lack of leader/ experience/ pace in that position…. Yes Deligt/ McGuire/ Martinez can do a job at CB, but that’s not what we need, we need much more than that, RA knows this too he would be a fool if he didn’t.
I know you all think DeLigt and Martinez are great most of that led because they wear a red shirt, but seriously if they played for another team in the EPL and based on last season showings, would you really buy either! If the answer to that is yes, then your happy with mid table.

Donnaruma is a good shot stopper but not so good at commanding his penalty box.
16.) 10 Aug 2025
10 Aug 2025 13:11:06
He is a great shot stopper, but for a giant he is poor at commanding his area and coming for crosses, that means he is not one of the best in his position, plus he more likely than the greats to have a ric or two in him.

Donnaruma forced arguably the best goalkeeper of all time out of his national team at the age of just 17 and then went on to win the Euros, earning himself the goalkeeper of the tournament award in the process. He was later voted the best goalkeeper in the world by sports journalists and club captains. This season just gone, he won the most prestigious club competition in world football and again found himself in the team of the competition.
So, with all due respect, German, I hope you’ll understand why I’m far more inclined to take the opinions of his peers over those of some angry internet troll whose sole purpose in life seems to be disagreeing with other people online.

Redseven - Forced? or the other keeper was 360 and well well past his sell by? Donnaruma is no better than an 18 year old de gea, he's not that great at all he reminds me of Onana a lot to be honest. I must have watchd him playe 15/ 20 games last season and he had 1 good game.
