Looks like Barcalona are interested in making the Rashford move permanent but if today's stories are true they can't actually afford to pay for the £25/ 30m agreed.
Whether this is true, them trying to play games or just fake news as it is a bit quiet who knows. However, if it is true are there ways round it where we do a true player exchange, and if so is there one that we would want.
I know that Araujo, Olmo and a few others have been discussed previously. They may have some youngster coming through that Amorim/ Wicox etc like.
Just a thought that prevents this being another loan next year.

This is not a surprise to me, have been saying to friends for some time I thought Barcelona would try this on.
They know how keen we are to move Marcus on, especially considering his huge wages. They feel if they apply pressure we will concede to them and reduce his fee, this was agreed at 30m euros (quite low if he is performing reasonably well, let's face it they will only try and buy him if he is performing to a good standard, so it would be a good deal for them)
As you say Brad they have player's to move on, so someone like Araujo, who when fit and healthy I think is a fantastic centre back could be an ideal potential trade.
I have no doubt they will find the money to facilitate any purchases they really want to make. I just don't want them trying it on with us. Also there is no penalty fee for them to pay, like Sancho with Chelsea. They also did not pay any loan fee to us, so overall, if he is playing well, they have a pretty decent deal overall.

They are paying his full wage for the entire season.

I don’t think we’ll have any trouble moving Rashford on in the summer given how he’s performed for Barca. There’s clearly a decent player in there but he had lost interest in United.

Barcelona will obviously try it on, why wouldn't they. No club signs a player for the selling clubs benefit.
We have to be realistic, Rashford is not young anymore, at 28 he has one last big contract offer available to him, and this is his last chance to sign for a top club. There aren't many clubs bigger than Barcelona and if they want to sign him and he wants to join then we would be silly not to do the deal.
From his perspective any club he moves to bar maybe going to Saudi will involve a pay cut. If he can't have his dream move to Barcelona because we refuse to sell him then I'd expect he'll refuse to sign permanently for any other club, knowing full well that we will have to pay him his wages. He'll end up going out on loan with us paying a proportion of his wages until his contract is up and he leaves on a free.
We will have to negotiate well with Barcelona to get a deal that suits everyone. I suspect the options will be to accept a lower fee from them and get the majority of all of the money upfront, or accept a larger fee to be paid over multiple years to spread the outlay for Barcelona. Either way if he wants to go and they want to take on his considerable wages then it's best we do a deal.
This is where the new management structure will earn their crust, can they negotiate a good deal, or at least a fair one.
As fans I suspect we will find it hard to remove our red tinted specs and we will see any deal, even a good one, as not good enough. We have a funny way of wanting our cake and eating it. In one breath we will say that Rashford isn't good enough, has had a poor attitude, and isn't worth the massive wages he's on. Then in our next breath claim he is worth 60-70m and that many clubs would want him, that we shouldn't accept a lower fee. Both things cannot be true.
He can't be not good enough for a team that finished 15th last season, but has aspirations to challenge for titles, but also be worth 60-70m and 300k a week to many clubs that are already challenging for titles.
If we get 30m then that's 30m profit, while his wages are reportedly 17m a year with a contract until 2028. Meaning that next summer if he leaves then that represents a 34m saving on wages on top of any transfer fee. For a player that offers us very little on the pitch any deal that moves him on makes good financial sense.
I suspect that we will accept a slightly higher fee (30-35m) spread over multiple years over a smaller (20m) fee paid up front. However, if the club has greater need for the cash sooner over the value over time then they might well accept a lower fee.

A part of me is hoping that they do refuse to pay the agreed upon fee, as given his form, I expect there’d be quite a few clubs willing to offer more to secure his services.
Sure, he says that he only wants to play for Barcelona, but if it’s a choice between a return to rainy Manchester and (let’s say) Italy, I suspect he’d go for the latter.

Straight swap for Pau Cubarsi, no problem.

Reds even, who’s got the cash to pay more than 30m euros (+300k/w) and needs a player like Rashford? Italian clubs are broke, Bayern has no real need, Real definitely has no need, same as PSG, which leaves the prem or Atletico. No other club are going to pay his wages or a high fee.

Get Olmo in a straight swap, and we'll call it quits ?.
