You know when you've hit rock bottom, when mother releases a statement defending her multimillionaire son being subject to negativity in the media.

It has nothing to do with 2 years of mediocrity.

I don't really see much negativity in the media for Maguire, in fact most of the British pundits like neville and carragher are defending him resolutely.

Recently he's been jeered by opposition fans and has received abuse from online trolls but most players get that which os why they stay of social media for the most part and outsource to a Management company.

Seriously though, he was always an English player over hyped. He has changed too, afraid to attack headers like he used to. Used to score and at the very least get his head to most crosses. He scored frequently before, doesn't come close anymore. Lost a lot of confidence.

The abuse Maguire is getting online is scandalous, every man and his dog jumping on him, sarcastic videos, excessive trolling.

He's not right for us but he is a good pro and a decent CB, he deserves better than the abuse he is getting, including on here.

I did see an African parliament ridicule him.

But that's about it.

I'd question whether at the top level he is a decent CB. I think the parts of his game that are poor are so important for teams at the top (high press requiring quick ball release, scanning for team mates positions, good acceleration from standing position, etc) that I don't think he's suitable for squad position never mind starter. He'll do fine at certain teams, and I've said elsewhere that West Ham are actually one of the few teams he'd be well suited to given their current style of play. Being able to call that out, especially in forums like this, is not abuse.

For my part, I think that - unless it's obvious the player is not trying over an extended period of time - then it's out of order to go to a game and boo your own player. However, fans here being annoyed that Maguire was continuing to be played when he was an obvious liability shouldn't be considered as out of order. But bar that clause, I do agree with you @AJH.

A decent pro would have taken the opportunity and left in the summer and restarted his career elsewhere.

The fact he stayed hasn't help himself, he should look at players like Smalling and consider what is best for his future.

I got one am extremely disappointed with the circus now around Maguire! Yes we criticise him on here as ultimately he’s not good enough but all this nonsense with England is not acceptable! Just remember first and foremost he’s a human and he’s getting absolutely slaughtered and I’m not sure why! Always represents his country very well to be fair! He’s a dad, husband son and brother before a footballer and I do t like what I see happening to him .

Maguire has had death threats and a bomb threat in the past couple of years. You may not see specific things, but imagine what he’s getting in direct messages.

Not a great footballer, but there is still a human being there.

Where was the out rage for the liverpool keeper that got death threats after cl final ? hardly a word spoken in favor of that lad.

Maguire shifting the blame and cupping his ears when he scored against the dog and duck = bringing it on himself.
And the “do you know who i am” fiasco in Greece and trying to bribe the police. Won’t leave the club unless we pay him off, even though he would be on a new 3/ 4 year contract at west ham. The lads a ??.
