Hi folks, I haven't posted here in a long while but always enjoy having a daily browse during transfer season. Keep up the good work eds. Just a quick word from me on two of the players we loaned out this season. Has anybody seen enough of Varela and Henriquez to comment on their progression? Is either good enough to come back and have an impact?

Henriquez has done well at Zagreb but I believe they have already taken up the option to sign him. Shame though as I always felt he could've been a good player for us, if he kicks on it won't be long before he's playing for a champions league team! But again shame it isn't us.

How much does everyone think Bale is worth?
In my opinion Bale is a very good player has great pace, is strong on the ball and has a wicked shot but calling him world class and in the same realm as Messi or Ronaldo is rubbish. His reputation had been ramped up by the usually over exaggerated British press. He will continue to be a very good player and will have a successful career but he will not ever be worth more than 40M for me. If he played for the likes of Valencia, Fiorentina or Leverkusen he certainly wouldn't command a higher fee than that. So I for one am quite happy if Real Madrid want to go and overspend on him and leave us to boost our midfield with much better value players
1.) Agreed, he is good but his reputation exceeds him. Maybe one day when he is in his late 20s he can be put in that bracket maybe not but he is only worth i'd say 40-50 million max.
2.) £40 million in my opinion as you say.
3.) I agree he's overpriced but I disagree that he isn't world class, or at least on his way there. He's a real top player and has developed his game a lot IMO, he's better on the ball now and has worked on his shooting/freekicks. Add that to his pace, power and wicked delivery and I think he can be one of the best.
Not worth £60m+ obviously but then I guess you're worth whatever a club pays for you at the end of they day.
I think it's pointless comparing anyone to Messi and Ronaldo as they are freaks. Can't we just agree that they are better than everyone else?
I don't see any reason why Bale can't go on to be one of the next best, on a par with the likes of Iniesta, Schweinsteiger etc. (but for different reasons) and that's plenty good enough.
4.) £50 mil. Not as good as Ronny or Messi but for his age, current ability and pottential 50 is about right.

How much he is worth and how much we'd have to pay for him are two very different figures. I would say that in todays market he is worth around 40m maybe as high as 45m. But then I feel that todays market is a refection on societys crazy vue on money. In real terms a player is only worth equal to what he brings you. For example if you signed Bale on a 5 year deal for 40m then with wages he'd cost you between 10-12m a season. He won't bring that amount extra into the club through prize money and merchandise. So he isn't worth that. In real terms if we were to sign him he'd bring about 2/3m a year into the club. So over a 5 year contract he'd bring in maybe 15m so his fee and wages shouldn't be more than that. This is why so many clubs get into serious financial strife.
And to make matters worst in todays market he is worth maybe 40m, but Spurs won't sell for less than 50m minimum. Probably closer to 60m.
Which is why the authorities need to crack down on the situation.
6.) As it stands at the moment I would say between £30/£40 mil he was wonderful last year but I think he needs to go to a club challenging on all fronts to take him to the next level of his career if he does that at top level I think then and only then can he be considered one of the worlds best and command the ludicrous fees that are being bandied about. I personally thought he stood out in spurs side last year because everything apart from him was distinctly average tbh
7.) Bale is worth what Tottenham value him at regardless what we think he is worth. Levy knows how to extract the maximum value so he will want near to the record to sell this summer in my opinion.

Maybe Moyes can sit down with him and outline if he sees him in his plans. This could reignite his desire and commitment and we may try sort out a new contract. If not then he must be sold, but keeping Nani on a new contract would be my preference.
Very articulate post Marcellus. Not quite sure how you lot are going to walk away with the league, with the same fantastic squad that finished 14 points behind the "dross" that we had last year. If we manage to complete signings for Thiago and Strootman, which seem quite likely now then we will be on a par with you're midfield and with far better options up front. Ya Shurrle is decent but hasn't exactly set the world alight. For all who think David Moyes is going to be our weakness, I believe you will be in for a big surprise. Oh and while you are on the subject of correcting people's spelling. I would say The Moon has plenty nuance but not sure if he would want to have much "nounce", whatever that means!
