Not sure how the commentary / analysis was portrayed over in the UK, but here in the US you would think Liverpool had been the better team and deserved to win!!

I watched the game live here and then again later through a much more dispassionate, analytical lens.

DeGea had a very good game, yes, but had to make only one truly outstanding save - the touch onto the bar from Super Mario - the rest were shots hit straight at him. Sterling is not a wc, clinical finisher, and his best chance was a mistake by Evans - who incidentally never knows what to do when he has too much time on the ball - much better when he plays by instinct.

Liverpool sold there only wc player in Suarez and invested in average to mediocre talent. So failing to score when you create opportunities is down to the talent you have on the field.

Over here Liverpool "carved" United open on numerous occasions, yet once Rooney scored we dominated the remainder of the half.
At counter point to DeGea who positions to cut down the angles and block any shot, Brad Jones jumps out of the way - third goal being almost comical.

At 2-0 up Rooney had a great chance on his left foot and should have scored, then RVP hit a Valencia just the wrong side of the post (if he had left it Mata would have had a sitter). Yet somehow those great opportunities were glossed over to bemoan the ifs and buts of Liverpool's chances.

United "carved" Liverpool open almost every time they went forward - they had no answer to Valencia and the first goal, nutmeg on Allen (Championship level player) with Llama (correct spelling) watching and Coutinho too lazy to track Rooney showed everything that is wrong with Liverpool yet somehow all that was talked about was what if Sterling had scored?!?

United deserved to win yesterday and if that was Liverpool playing well, then God help them.

Rodgers is delusional, the "European Royalty" banner nonsense heralding their return to the CL was even worse. There is a reason they have not won the League since I was a kid.
They and everyone else was way too quick to proclaim United dead and that post Ferguson we would fade, unable to attract the best players.

It was 3-0 and the best team won and that was without Shaw, Rojo and DiMaria who would all start and with Falcao not fully match sharp.

Last season was a one off United are back. I would hate to be a Liverpool supporter. They had better pray that they hold onto Sterling.

Not fan-biased, not ranting, not delusional, just an honest assessment - there is absolutely ZERO prospect of them winning the League anytime soon.

Tbh I'm quite happy for everyone to not talk about us.

2.) 15 Dec 2014 18:48:13
I honestly believe liverpool will never win the league again in my lifetime.Im 40.The only possibility is if they get new owners who have cash like the arabs

3.) With the ffp new owners will not be able to go on a shopping spree as the wages of top players compared to their top line and profitability is what prohibits that sort of expenditure.

4.) 15 Dec 2014 22:40:22
We had to constantly put up with the jibes from media and rival fans for not winning the league for 20 odd years, it intensified at 25-26. Liverpool are closing in on that amount of time and not a peep from the media.

5.) 15 Dec 2014 23:26:24
Let's hope so Blackpool 😜

Good performance today. first steps toward a bright new era.

Rooney was the best player on the field, and took his goal very well. Van Persie looks anything but unhappy. Mata just needs to stop trying so hard. Fellani actually looked like he belonged on the field.

Add young, energetic bodies to our defence / midfield base in the Summer and we'll be fine. it's not as bad as many want you to believe. the media and the opposition just love to see us fail. but they'd better enjoy it while they can.

On a side note though was the behaviour of the Palace fans. beamed around the world, snarling and spitting obscenities at Rooney. a very very poor reflection on the Premier League.

If you behaved like that in a bar or in the street you'd be arrested.

All they did was show themselves for what they are. utterly classless.

Scotbos USA

1.) Fellaini may have looked like he belonged on the pitch but not for us - perhaps for palace! No disrespect to palace mind. He hardly controlled the ball throughout the game . He just should not be there.

2.) You must have been watching a different game from me then. he's a United player, I support him and want him to do well.

3.) Supporting a player does not mean he cannot be criticized. But still, I have no idea what Pancho is talking about. He recovered more possession than anyone else on the field, drove forward to good extent, covered a lot of ground, and his passing was relatively positive.

He will not be scoring hat tricks every other week, but if he keeps performing like he is, our midfield is much, much better off.

4.) Pancho

You were obviously watching something different mate. Fellaini was very good yesterday and will be very good player for us.

He can do so many things that our other midfielders can't and give us options. Give him a full season with our lot and he might turn into a very popular player.

5.) GCU
He gave the ball away a few times because of his lack of ability to control the ball. I did see that! I hope your right because I want him to be good but as some the squad apparently feel - I can't see it.

6.) Pancho

He is a huge improvement over Cleverly. He gives us an outlet when under pressure and also provides an extra dimension to our play because of his size.

I think to be fair he needs a good run of games and getting used to playing at United.

We all know he is not the fastest midfielder but neither is carrick, I thought he made us look very stable in the middle of the pitch. He is no kroos or Vidal but he is not mug either.

7.) I thought he was superb yesterday tbh and for possibly the first time this season I didn't doubt we would win. A great performance imo regardless of people saying "its only palace" you have to beat what's in front of you and I thought we did that confidently and comfortably. I can't wait til next season with the addition of a few players I think we will be great .

8.) GCU
Like I said I hope your right. I am not bothered about how fast he is . But I am bothered how fast his brain sends signals to his feet . Or his case, so far, doesn't .

Thrilled at the acquisition of Mata - genuine world class talent, proven Premier pedigree, and only 25.

Now sign Cabaye and (ideally) Shaw, get into the top four and let Moyes build HIS team in the Summer.

Guess we aren't broke after all haha.

So if we believe a bid was made for Bale, then why not bid the $70M required to activate Suarez's buy out clause?

Has his problems for sure. but outstanding football talent. true world class with proven premier experience.

Thoughts?

Scotbos USA

{Ed004's Note - Never. Wouldn't want the player at our club}

1.) And why not? We have young who's a diver, Anderson who's totally unprofessional. Nani who's been pathetic.
So what's wrong with Suarez? He's been an person. But so were a load of united players in our time. Remember Keane? He didn't behave like a pro on many occasions, yet he could do no wrong in our eyes.

2.) I only care about what a player brings to the team. and world class footalling talent, is world class footballing talent.

I'll leave the moral high ground to others.

3.) 05 Jan 2014 17:22:36
Ed04, I strongly Disagree. He was awful last season, as a person, still managed 20+ goals. He has been brilliant on and off the pitch this season. Just 2 yellow cards in 15 games and 20 brilliant goals. let's be honest. I don't wanna him at UTD, We need someone like him. A PURE WORLD CLASS PLAYER, who would make things possible out absolute Nothing.

Well based on that footage he seems to have all of the attributes you need - physically imposing, quick, reads the game well, good positioning and knows when to move with the ball and when to clear his lines.

Better option than Smalling, who looks like a deer in the headlights almost all of the time, and looks to have the sort of potential that good coaching and more competition week in week out would pay dividends.

One other question would be how durable is he / injury history etc?

I'd prefer to go this route than to go after Hummels.

If anyone knows about his potential vs. what else is under consideration, it should be LVG.

No excuses for not adding quality at the back in January.

Scotbos USA

{Ed007's Note - He's a fitness freak from what I've heard and off the top of my head I can't remember him missing any games through injury. He missed a match at the end of August/start of September because his wife was giving birth and the manager thought his head wasn't right after all the transfer speculation but that's it.
A quick check there and he missed 2 league matches all season in 2013-14 and played in every domestic cup and every CL game for us, and the 2 matches were missed because he was banned after getting a red card, there's no qualms over his fitness so far.}

Rooney was easily England's best player - no contest amazing what happens when you play him where he can be most effective.

The Rooney hate in the media, from the English fans and on here is a joke.

Sturridge, Sterling, Lallana and Barkley showed they have a hell of a lot to learn at this level.

Baines and Jag are Everton defenders - no more to be said (never wanted Baines at United, yet the clamor on here a few months back was plain nuts).

Gerrard's too old and Henderson enthusiastically ordinary.

England gave up 3 poorly defended goals to 2 forwards who know how to score playing against those defenders - Cahill is by far the best available - and that's why they are going out.

In answer to some earlier nonsense about our best players based on ability - ability is what a player is ABLE to make happen on the field against the best completion.

We have Rooney, RVP and DeGea and should count ourselves lucky we have those 3.

LVG is not going to sell Rooney so get over it - he will build his team around those 3 players and we will contend next year.

Everyone else is replaceable.

If I could pick from the competition it would be all City players:

Silva - better than anything the others have.
Augero - no much to choose between him and Suarez on the pitch, but I'd take Augero every time.
Zaballeta and Kompany.

I'd also like Cahill and Townsend at Spurs.

Beyond that I'd go elsewhere.

Definitely wouldn't touch Flannagan or Sakho.

Ramsey is a player I like but not someone I'd buy.

What Giggs said was. "I don't buy into the theory that this club needs to bring in lots of new players and sell off a lot of the current squad.

"We have always strengthened here at United, in times of success as much as in times of rebuilding, and I am sure we will be doing business in the next transfer window, but a few carefully chosen recruits will bring the best out of the existing squad.

I agree 100%.

Add quality at LB and to replace Vidic - my preference would be Hummels - plus 1 or 2 in the middle - most likely Strootman plus one - and that one needs to be the star signing.

If Woodward can pull that off it will be amazing and expensive - it's not fantasy football (although my Vino Paraletico are top of the league!

Also if we sign Hummels unlikley we get Reus too - Dortmund aren't running a car boot sale - not without giving up Kagawa.

Quality not quantity - the squad has a lot more upside than downside.

Besides Vidic leaving - everyone else stays until the new manager says otherwise.

We will compete next year. Looking forward to it.

Plymouth,

Not interested in who wins the League when United don't but Liverpool have choked. your world class defence is not - still laughing at your Sack-o reference from a few weeks back to be honest. and your manager is just another wannabe.

Deny it, deflect it, dismiss it all you want. but this was your chance. it may not come around again, for a very long time.

That's Liverpools reality mate.
