Rumour has it that Ed Woodward is in Dortmund obviously there are many good players that would fit in the United team at that club the question is who is he looking at there. I imagine it's one of Bender, Gundongan or Reus. Any news on this ed's?

Sligo Red

1.) This is where we need to be looking for players as players at barca/Madrid/bayern are not really interested in coming at the moment an Germany has become a much stronger league proved by the all German champions league final. Although I think Dortmund are not going to be keen to sell after already losing Goetze and lewendowski (confirmed for next year)

Read a journo tweeting earlier that his information is that neither vidal or carvalho are coming. Now with Vidals latest '100% Juventus' comments that fairly rules him out no big prize for saying he is not coming.

Calling Carvalho not coming means either he is talking out of his ass or he knows from inside Carvalho isn't coming. He did not say nobody is coming for defensive mid just it won't be either of these pair.

The whole scenario begs the question are we going to sign anybody as a defensive midfielder. I would not be surprised if LVG was waiting till Jan window to allow Strootman show his fitness before signing him.

THere seems to be a big midfield clear out going on with Nani gone and Cleverly and Kagawa looking like following him out of Old Trafford. Anderson is still hanging in there hope he goes before the window shuts. THe problem is there is very little left to plug the gap.

Not signing a def cm puts more pressure on our creaking back 3 which needs more than Rojo to fix it. In the absence of a Vidal type player surely a top centre back is need to give some stability in the defence. I do think that LVG thinks the 3 offers more protection in the absence of a Def cm and were we to sign one he will revert to 433

The squad has been in decline for years and both Fergie and Moyes failed to address that. Even Fergie had to bring back Scholes to patch up the midfield to win the title. Big names have left in Rio and Vidic at the back both top class players and no replacements. Evans although he had a stinker v MK Dons was ever present in the last title winning side alongside either RIo or Vidic. It was a case of Evans and one of them rather than the other way around. He needs to step up and quickly. THat said a no nonsense centre half is required, Jones for all his bluster comes across as headless at times and Smalling is more of a positional centre back.

The next couple of days will tell where we go until january at least. As Ed said let's watch the space

Sligo Red

1.) I've just read this on . They also said johnny Evans might be on his way

2.) Surely mr van gaal knows more then us all put together x 1 million!

When Moyes took over did he not say there was no transfer budget so there it is guys there is no transfer budget we will continue to underbid for players amounts that won't be accepted and the mantra will be we won the league last year the squad is good enough. I don't necessarily want the wig or baines and while the wig will add a bit of steel in the middle he won't improve us. With all the additions to the Bayern side surely there are a few players ripe for picking but no we go for a couple of players from a mid table side. This is not the united way its uncle malcs way and we are in real danger of becoming a spent force like that anfield lot. Our midfield has been ropey enough for the last couple of years and still its not fixed. I am beginning to think Kloot is right on this one guys. All our nearest competitors have strengthened and we have done nothing apart from pocket money from sponsorship and the summer tour

1.) Im not giving up hope yet, but.

If you were to go full tinfoil hat, youd say that.

- employ a manager who idolises SAF, would have no issue with working under him and is also used to spending next to nothing

- have SAF stick around to appease the fans if/when they start calling for his head if things go bad

- make derisory bids for players that have little chance of going through, so it looks like we are trying

Then you could make a solid case for it. i'm not giving up hope, surely, SURELY the Glazers know the damage that would be done if they employed someone, set him up to potentially fail, and had to sack him, immediately after losing the world's best manager?

With Sevilla apparently in for Mbia who could by Kondogbia's replacement we should be lodging a bid for the lad who is young and already looks a player. He looked like he was auditioning for a contract the night of Rio's testimonial. I would prefer him to Fellani any chance it will come to pass ed's?

Sligo Red

1.) Related to the above does anyone know if kondogbia has a clause in his contract? I thought I read somewhere he did and its only about 8 or 9 million but that came from media so it might be garbage

2.) Fellanini is better at the moment and whilst the boy might turn out to be great he is nowhere ready for the Pl as a starter and more a squad player with about 15 games max.

3.) Kondogbia has a 17.2 mil release clause according to his manager

Syd has nailed it there when he says with MU there is no guarantee the deals will be completed. Ed Wood no matter what he does will always be a business man and not a football man and in the murky world of agents some inside knowledge of the game and clubs is required even down to having contacts in clubs that you can contact. Gill having been in the game and involved had all these contacts and wasn't a complete beancounter.

WE have in the past lost out on players due to us trying to scrimp on the transfer fee most notably Ronaldinho. Things are very precarious at the moment and another bad year will make us less desirable top players so we need to follow a couple of simple steps to ensure this does not happen.

1 Ask LVG who he needs

2 Pay what's required to land them

3 Trust LVG to do the job he is a top coach.

I agree top 4 is realistic for this year if we bring in the players. I am excited that the youth will get a chance this year but it needs to be alongside quality players to bring them along.

Surely if what we know about LVG is true Rooney will play where he is told or he will be off end of debate!

The notion that LVG damaged Bayern is based on the premise that he fell out with the club and left. This is the way it has ended for him at a lot of his clubs. The difference at United will be that there will be no Cruyff or Beckenbauer type person putting their oar in. All these clubs have a serious political agenda going on in the background. Pep is even at some odds with the Bayern board currently.

LVG is a winner everyplace he has gone and he won't take any crap from any upstart players in the same way Fergie didn't. He can be ruthless and no doubt he will clear out the deadwood and his stature will negate the lack of european football next year.

Hopefully the club will go all out to land somebody like Vidal and a world class centre half. We have plenty to offer in attack given the correct platform.

As for Portsmouth he is trying to cover up the fact that Brendan the Conqueror blew it this year ably assisted by Stevie Me. Liverpool would struggle to attract a coach of LVG calibre. Fair play to the scouse fools they dared to dream and that's what they have been doing for years dreaming. Doubt they will get top 4 next season and no doubt the rat faced racist will jump ship post world cup

In one of the last United We Stand podcast Andy Mitten had Graham Hunter on. He is an expert on all things barca and he said if Pedro can't get in the team ahead of Alex or Neymar that he could move so not to lose his place in the Spain squad. He had no club in mind but thinks he would thrive in the prem league .

{Ed002's Note - PSG still have an interest in Pedro.}
