I'd like to start off by saying, please don't lynch me! I am a Liverpool fan who comes not to antagonise, but in peace.

I write regular player reviews on the Liverpool site and my most recent blog included a review on Tom Cleverley. It can be found in the 'LFC blogs and voting polls' section for those of you who want to read it. It is the very top blog, number 12, as of September the 13th.
I hope you leave me constructive feedback, and find the review fair. I was as unbiased as a Liverpool fan can be ;) In all honesty, I think he's a great player, and hopefully that opinion was conveyed in the review.

Kind regards,

YNWAdam

1.) I was enjoying the read up until the Tom Cleverly fan favourite comment, he's actually quite the opposite and by the way Jack Wilshere is by far superior to Joe Allen in the creativity department

2.) 13 Sep 2013 12:50:42
In my defence, I actually said that Tom Cleverley is one of those players who has to work his socks off to become a fan favourite. Which is proven by the fact he is under rated by so many of his own fans. With regards to your Wilshere and Allen reference, if you can find a single quote where I called Joe Allen creative, I'll be impressed. I said they are both good technically, but I actually said virtually word for word that Joe Allen lacks the flair to play in a forward position. I never claimed he was as creative as Wilshere. Thanks for reading anyway, but I think you may have misunderstood these two particular points. If Cleverley is as 'hated' as you have just suggested, I think that's a real shame. In my opinion he will be in the top 3 midfielders in the national side along with Henderson and Wilshere in just a few years. Fergie had faith in him, and as much as it pains me to say it, that guy knew a good player when he saw one.

3.) Adam, glad you think he's a great player. hopefully you'll sign him in january

4.) Glad you rate him as I don't at all. He has no courage to try a telling pass and when under pressure great players stand out rather than hide. He passes the buck/responsibility of driving the team forward when needed to other and that is not something you can teach.

5.) Adam,

Apologies for the United fans who can't just appreciate that you have done a fair assessment mate, thanks for letting us know you have done it.

It is a shame that some fans can't appreciate players who come through our academy, Darron Gibson was hounded out of the club by a similar thing and it disappoints me when players do not get given a chance. Tom gets in the England squad and played for Manchester United under Alex Ferguson and David Moyes, but people on here clearly know better.

No problem GDS2. We have similar fans on the Liverpool site who also right off players before they've been given a fair crack. I know I should be wishing Cleverley never makes it big time, but from a FOOTBALL fans point of view, I really hope he fulfils his potential and turns all their opinions of him around. If you ever want to send him away, I'm sure he'll have plenty of takers. He's a hardworking young lad. Like you said GDS2, its a shame local talent isn't appreciated not just here, but by fans of all clubs.

Good luck to you for the season though guys and I hope Cleverley in particular proves the majority wrong ;) see you in a few weeks time at Old Trafford!

7.) Fergie chose Cleverly over Pogba, yes he had a good eye for a player but let's be honest he dropped a clanger there and you actually said 'Whilst he is a good as Joe Allen technically' making out like they're close in technical ability where as Wilshere outshines him in every department

8.) GDS

Getting onto england"s bench is not exactly an endorsement of being great. He is an average midfielder that gets to start games for us as the alternatives are even worse. we have the worst midfield out of the top 6 sides in England.

Let's buy 2 or 3 proper midfielders and see if this guy can even get a game.

I am not sure why people here think not rating a player, who came through the academy is like heresy, our academy has not produced anything special in 15 years mate.

We have collectively the best strike force in the league and it sad how they struggle with any decent service when we play a team with decent midfielders.

9.) I completely agree with GDS on this one.

10.) Cleverley is no more than a scapegoat for SAF's dithering and negligence in the midfield department. Shame really.

11.) Definitely chose the wrong one when he let Pogba go. Pogba now playing for France as well as Juve We have the right person to put in there already. Put Buttner in move Evra up he will get stuck in, run at defenders and pass forward. Cleverly can stick to sub appearances and League cup run outs. let's see how many times he gets in the England squad then

12.) Salford Red, it was never a case of Cleverley or Pogba. Pogba was trying to leave the club 12 months before he did. SAF would have wanted both Cleverley and Pogba to play 'obviously'. If Pogba didn't keep stalling with a new contract he would have played a big part of the season.

13.) Gds
The stick clevs gets on this site is no where near as bad as what you have to read about giggs .
a player who does deserve respect
Gibson was also no where near as bad as people made out but I don't think he was hounded out the club I just don't think he was good enough.

Cleverly is not a bad player but I'm not sure how many games he will play for England or United this year .

14.) Adam, cleverley Isn, t hated by utd fans, but we know he isn't, t good enough to command such a regular place in utds team. its arguable as to whether he, s good enough to deserve a place in the squad.

god created utd is right. cleverley doesn't have either the ability or the temperament to be effective enough at the very top level. I think utd fans have seen enough of him to know he never will.

Adam, I hope your fantasy of cleverley and Henderson being future mainstays of the England midfield never comes true. can you imagine the carnage if we played anyone with a half decent midfield. dear me (shake of the head)

15.) I'm really starting to get bored of the cleverly haters. If you can't appreciate what he does for the team then you must be watching a different player to me. He is extremely hard working and GCU, seriously? Pass the buck of responsibility of driving the team forward? What a load of rubbish, do you seriously think that every player on the pitch needs to be attack minded, how about just keeping possession, making sure the other team doesn't have the chance to score. Has anyone noticed also how when he's on the ball he's always surrounded by players, and 9 times out of ten he manages to keep the ball and pull of a good albeit "sideways" pass. And that's another thing I'm so sick of him being slated for- passing sideways, he often plays with his back to goal, running into space and opening up the opposition by creating gaps, he may not pass forward often but for gods sake, he often passes to the right man that does drive the team forward. Without the cleverlys of this world the likes of Carrick and Rooney wouldn't be able to perform their jobs half as well. Seriously next time you watch him just watch how many times he is the link in the chain of attack, he may not make the "killer" pass many of you are so desperate to see, but he is a link in a chain, and a very strong one at that.

16.) Jase

Obviously we are watching different things LOL.

On many of occasions he has no one within 5 or 10 yards of him and instead of turning and looking to push us forward, he passes it back to the centre backs, carrick or the wingers. God forbid if he does not even try to dribble past a midfielder and take a shot.

Look at his game to assist ratio mate or minutes to assists ratio, I have no idea what it would be but would expect it to be pretty poor.

The great midfielders always seem to have time on the ball by being able to turn without the huff and puff. They instinctively know when there is no room and a pass back or sideways is the best option.

He is a lot of huff and puff and very industrial mate and not what you need as your second midfielder given that Carrick is sitting in front of the back four and our holding midfielder.

As Andrew B said god help England if you guys are hanging your hats on him. Bad choice I say when you come up against the likes of Germany, Brazil, Argentina, Columbia, Chile, Spain, Belgium, Italy, Portugal, Holland, etc etc
