Rumours suggesting we have bid for herrara from and as usual (if correct) he has buy out clause which we have bid below! No surprise there then!

Believable26 Unbelievable6

United is making a Time pass habit in transfer windows to bid just bellow and then not improving it. if selling club agrees later they have another weapon to spoil the deal " don't AGREE TO AGENT FEES".

great strategies. no one can make you spend unless u want to.

Agree1 Disagree0

Question - Who is this guy Herrara? is any good? worth 36m euros?

I understand everybody is frustrated by the lack of movement for us but I don't think just because someone has a release cause we should automatically pay it!

If this rumour is true we have bid more on this player than we have for Fabregas, Fellaini/Baines - is he better than fabregas? if so why aren't every huge club after him?

Agree0 Disagree0

From what I understand he was going to be Barcelona's replacement if Fab left

indipendent and other sources report that Everton have rejected Manchester United improved bid of
£36m/38m for Baines and Fellain. rumour that they want 25m for each

£25million for each! I nearly spat my cup of tea out. Sorry Baines were moving on.

Agree7 Disagree0

If it's true then we should forget about them. Neither are worth that much.

Agree6 Disagree0

If they want to play for United they should hand in a transfer request and force Everton to make a deal

Manchester United have reportedly offered 30 million euros for Athletico Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera

Believable19 Unbelievable8

Hope so, although athletico have said they want the 36m euro buyout meeting

BREAKING: a whole bunch of Spanish sources are reporting that We have officially submitted a bid for Ander Herrera last week for 30 million euros. Bilbao have insisted that we meet the players release clause set at 36 million euros. this sounds reasonable to me as I am confident that our scouting team from SAF era had earmarked herrera as one for the future.

I hope this comes through because we are desperate for a passing midfielder. If we get him and Gundogan next year as Carricks replacement (he will be 33) we will have ourselves a very creative midfield.

I thought it was 'hector' Herrera that we were linked with previously.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hector is the Mexican midfielder not athletic Bilbao's player who united are interested in!

Hi Ed.

Paper Cadena Cope reporting we have bid €30M for Ander Herrera. Do you know if there is any truth in this?

Cheers. {Ed007's Note - It looks as if it is true.}

Is the lad any good?

Agree0 Disagree0

I watch (on TV a lot of Spanish football) He is a good player and around 23/24 but I've never though OMG we must sign this guy, as I did with Alcantara, that said he played very well against us 2 seasons ago. Just like Fellaini who had a £23m release clause ( I seriously hope we don't go back for either Baines, who I rate and Fellaini if the £36m refusal is true that's a more than fair offer) Herrera has a 36m euros release clause and we go in low typical of this transfer window.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Aug 2013 21:37:09
Herrera of Bilbao is the player Moyes has identified as a like for like alternative to Fabregas. €36 mill euro buyout clause and we have apparantly bid €30m sounds familiar! Just the sort of player we need to help dictate midfield more than happy with him and Fellaini

The source that apparently came out with the news that Thiago was to join Bayern, has reported that United have made a bid in the region of £30m for the Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera. Looks like a non obvious but perfect fit for our needs. Thoughts?

Eds forgive the copy and paste translation from Cope

The English would be willing to pay 30 million for Athletic midfielder, as has been told Sports COPE.
Manchester United have made a formal offer to sign Athletic Ander Herrera. The English club would be willing to pay 30 million euros.

so the only option for the Manchester United can win the midfielder is to disburse 36 million euros of the clause of the player. player has a contract with Athletic Bilbao until June 2016.

Believable3 Unbelievable3

Pardoe

If true this continues Woodwards strategy of bidding less than is required to purchase the player as done all the way through the window

If they are trying to do that so that they can say they have tried - that won't pacify the fans

And why wait to the end of the window before randomly bidding for him? Doesn't sound right to me but I would take anyone right now over TC23.

Juventus CEO has reportedly said they won't be making a move for nani as he has signed a new contract with United

Believable10 Unbelievable12

29 Aug 2013 19:33:17
Director General and Sports Department CEO of Italian football club Juventus Giuseppe "Beppe" Marotta: "Nani extended his contract with Manchester United and we never negotiated for him". So there you go, Nani will be at Old Trafford for the foreseeable future.

Believable13 Unbelievable4

Any true United fan would be gutted with this news.

What?

What?

Do you think Moyes will make the world's most inconsistent winger perform when the world's greatest manager could only coax half-arsed performances from him?

Get you effing heads out of the sand and see the writing on the wall.

RED_SKY

Agree3 Disagree7

Nani has incredible talent, he looked our best player against AIK Fotboll before he got injured. I reckon he could recapture his best form an remain consistent!

With SAF I think he always feared being dropped from the team which made him less confident. A new manager could be just what he needs.

Alexander Büttner has agreed personal terms with Besiktas & is set to join the Turkish side on a season-long loan via twitter does this mean baines.

Also I hope Wayne Rooney signs a new contract

Believable15 Unbelievable2

Hopefully. Money could be better spent elsewhere, but Baines would be a HUGE improvement to our team both defensively and in terms of creating chances.

Group A:

Manchester United

Shakhtar Donetsk

Bayer Leverkusen

Real Sociedad

Not too bad Arsenal have it tough.

Believable17 Unbelievable9

Hard but all the games are winnable Bayer Leverkusen away will be hard

Agree0 Disagree1

I actually think this is a pretty tough group. I agree arsenal have a worse group, but shaktar away will be tough and Sociedad are no mugs.

This will be a good test for moyes. If we don't add some players we might find balancing these games withe the league and cup games a bit tough.

Agree0 Disagree0

Didn't Real Sociedad

beat us home and away in the EL the year before last, or am I mistaken.

Agree0 Disagree5

What?!
After last season, and no strengthening, this is a doable group is it?]

No such thing as a walk in the park in the CL, it is named that for a reason. Get your hopes down, these are tough tough teams and there's nothing wrong with that - these boys have earned their spot.

RED_SKY

Agree0 Disagree0

No it was bilbao

Agree1 Disagree0

I think you mean Bilbao Andy, Sociedad have risen quickly through Spanish football - like Swansea.

Agree0 Disagree0

Shakhtar sold all there best players so we should have a better time with them then Chelsea did but all the games will be hard only see 1 goal being the difference in each game.

Agree0 Disagree0

Its a tough group but o too tough perfect for Moyes because he gets some reasonably difficult European games

Buttner has agreed terms with besiktas.
Well that's one lb back

Believable11 Unbelievable7

On a one year loan I might add

Agree1 Disagree0

Makes sense. Sign Baines on a 3 to 4 year deal. Evra possibly his last season in first team, so then buttner can come back to be Baines' understudy for a couple of years before potentially cementing his place in the starting 11. Lots of ifs and buts however I think this seems feasible

MUFC have made improved bid of 38 mill pounds for Fellaini & Baines. waiting for response

Believable33 Unbelievable30

Great! If this is the only business we do I for one will be very disappointed. We apparently have money to spend and want to improve the team, IMO these two don't.

We live in hope that Ozil/De Maria/Modric may be signed however time is running out rapidly.

This site will no doubt be inudated with those who wear rose tinted glasses saying we don't need anyone as our squad is good enough and just support your team. Let us note down their names and see what they say in january when we are 4th in the league and out of the CL!

Dave

Agree8 Disagree5

This is ridiculous, we absolutely do not need baines, why waste money on him when evra is still doing the job and Buttner has shown a lot of promise and we still have Fabio, there's no need for Baines, its our midfield that needs work. Does Evra want out? Does moyes not rate the younger lads? Baines is going to be overpriced and not needed . Ridiculous. Buy fellaini and for the money we will spend on Baines buy eriksen, young, cheap and better than what we have! If he's talking about value in the market there it is.

Agree5 Disagree2

In fairness, We need the type of player that Fellaini is more then any other. Kagawa can play a central play maker role similar to Scholes but as his defensive abilities are lacking. With a ball winner like Fellaini it gives freedom to the front players to play as they want to without being overly worried about tracking back. Personally I don't see the need for Baines tbh more so that Moyes trusts him to be able to bomb up and down the pitch for 90 mins week in week out.

Agree1 Disagree2

Both moyes and woodward are doing exactly what the glazers are telling them to do, keep the money in the kitty! Can someone find the odds for SAF back in control by January? The ethos of this club is to build not sit back. We've got all these global companies spending millions sponsoring us and none is going on the team at all bar for one lad from south America.I'm getting my green and gold scarf ready for action.

Agree4 Disagree1

United buy players who are hungry for success, those ready to step up to the next level and fight for trophies or established players who have never won a trophy. That is how United work, just look at the manager appointment. Di Maria / Ozil would be guff for us, both would take their wage but neither would bust a gut when the going gets tough.

Also Iv said this before but I think Baines will play left wing for united.

Agree4 Disagree5

Behave yourself elbow ;)

Agree3 Disagree2

Guys let's face fabio is a better right back than he is left back and buttner is not good enough and won't be imo so yes we do need Baines. Why wouldn't we need the best left back in the league? After all the majority comes on here and has a go at evra! Evra of 4 years ago was the best in the world no doubt now he can be a liability! I still love him and think his personality is amazing! But Baines could play left wing like elbow suggests!

Agree1 Disagree2

38-40 I think that should do it.

Agree0 Disagree2

Elbow

Wow.

Nonsense.

Agree1 Disagree1

No problem with fellaini and baines, but we also need an eriksen type player. Contrary to what others think I wouldn't mind sneijder at all of it's true as he's much better than what we have.

Agree1 Disagree0

By signing Baines we would unsettle Evra. Let us not forget that Evra has been playing brilliantly and is also our vice captain. So why not save the 15-18 million pounds that we would have spent on him to buy an attacking winger hat could cross the ball, such as Di Maria for example. Fellaini is a must buy because he can bully nearly any player in the BPL and is the same type of player as Yaya Toure, which is exactly what we need.

Agree2 Disagree1

I do think we will sign Baines and Fellaini over the next day or so and and I am very happy even if this is our only business, but I do think we will see at least one more and I think it will be a attacking player that can give us something we don't already have? but have to say Baines is the best left back in England by some distance evra just does not have the same stamina or crossing ability and Fellaini is what we have missed since Keano not saying he is the same player but he is a scary fella and I do think the opposition will $hit it from him plus corners will be fun to watch even more with him and Vidic on the same team lol lots of goals from set pieces and that's not a bad thing in tight games like we had the other night and big European games can be so tight a good set piece may be the only way to brake the deadlock and we all remember how 99 got rolling don't we

Agree0 Disagree1

Fellaini is nothing like Toure, we have Jones for any roughing up that is required in Midfield. We need someone creative, able to run a pace & take players on down the middle + have an eye for the killer pass.

We also need a world class winger to replace Ronaldo (IMO Valencia, Nani & Young don't cut the mustard).

I would be happy with Ozil (or Modric) & De Maria, maybe a young centre back bearing in mind Rio/Vidic's ages.

Dave

Agree1 Disagree6

Jones for the ruff stuff? He's a good central defender but struggles to pass a ball 10 yards, should never play in midfield

Agree3 Disagree2

I may be wide of the mark but Ozil, Di Maria And Benzema have all come out and said they don't want to leave Madrid. Could this mean that Modric may be available as if all the others stay plus Alonso when fit. Could be something in it or I expect us to sign him in January, reda rumours of us going back in for Cesc but with Xavi being 33 its only a matter of time before Cesc takes over his role at Barca seeing as he has waited 3 years do u honestly think he would leave now when he is so close to being a starter. If we don't sign any creative playmaker which we have been missing for 5 years I expect Modric to join in January. Does anyone else think we should have taken a punt on Eriksen for £8 million we spent £7 million on homeless flpo Bebe who is still on our books

Agree0 Disagree0

@Dave United : Why are you so pessimistic? You saw what Chelsea had to offer the other night (not much) you've seen Cardiff beat City on Sunday, you've seen Arsenal be beaten at home by Villa . Spurs have not been vintage . So relax and wait and see what happens . Fellaini will be a good addition to the squad, 2 years as def mid for

Agree0 Disagree1

@Dougal. Those you mention will get better, we have papered over the cracks for 2/3 years, no Scholes/Giggs/Ronaldo replacements. We won a weak league last year and didn't progress in Europe. With what we have do you see us challanging Bayern/Barca/Real? It is not so much pessimistic, we support the biggest club in the world we want the best. The club get my $'s from membership/shirt sales/tickets etc, I just like to see it spent well!

Dave

Agree1 Disagree0

With Buttner leaving on loan, and Fabio better on the right, I can see Baines and Evra working well together in the sense that neither would play every game. I'm
not sure if DM is looking at pushing one of them further forward but we're not exactly overrun with left mids (of a decent class anyway).

Still if these two are the only signings other than varela would be pretty disappointing mark DM has put on "his" team. Still optimistic overall though

Agree0 Disagree0

Elbow if we were only interested in hungry players we would have been bidding for suarez all summer
